Just replaced this whole VTEC solenoid, got a brand new one for $30 on eBay. Followed this video, excellent instructions. USE BOX-HEAD WRENCHES they will make your life a lot easier. Thanks for the video!

I could not figure out where the leak on my dad's Accord was coming from, but I came across this video. It was a pain to get those bolts out but I got the job done. Thanks for sharing this, Bullet.

Thank you Bullet Solano. This video was extremely helpful. I followed the guidance to replace the gaskets in my Honda Accord EX 2002 over the weekend. I took your tip and made a very small wrench by snapping off one side and grinding the broken end smooth on a bench grinder. One tip though: my ring wrench didn't fit over the top nut and I actually had to grind away on the ring to make is slimmer. After about 5 grind/check fit cycles, I ended up making it so it could slip over. After that the rest was easy. Thanks again! Really enjoy your videos.

    To viewers:
Make sure to not lose the spring that holds the plunger in place. I dropped mine without noticing, and it made the car go into limp mode.
Rewatched Bullet's video, found the spring, and once I installed it, the car ran fine again xD

I kept thinking that my valve cover was bad. I've changed it twice in the last 2 years but it would always leak from the back side. Now I'm starting to think it's this solenoid. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for the video Bullet.. I was able to perform this procedure easily. I followed your video, but I used the Harbor Freight Box End off set wrench 8 pc item 32042. This enabled be to get the bottom bolt off. I had to wiggle and work the wrench as it was tight, but the nut eventually came loose. I also cleaned the EGR since I had to remove it for the VTEC gasket replacement. In addition, I tested the VTEC solenoid per your instructions.. That was excellent testing procedure. I learned something... thanks again.

My wife's 1999 honda accord was leaking 3 quarts in 100 miles (on the passenger side of the car)! I could not see where it was coming from. Changed the distributor O-ring, still leaked. replaced the VTEC to head gasket but it did not look bad. Replaced the gasket under the solenoid. The leak stopped. The gasket under the solenoid was brittle and I suspect leaking. Getting those three bolts for the VTEC to head broken lose was not easy. I used a 10mm boxed in wrench and some uncool methods to get enough leverage on the wrench to get the bottom one lose. (included a hammer, a hatchet and a crowbar). Taking the water inlet off would have made it a lot easier but I did not have the "O" rings and gaskets for it and having to catch the coolant would have been a pain. One more thing, I replaced the PCV valve. A bad one can make seals fail. Thank you for the video!

Thank you for your comment , So tell me why do you think that seal would start leaking that bad ? And i`m gonna believe that the motor has to come out to do this , Correct ? Also how can I be sure that`s where the oil is coming from ? I just got done hosing the whole engine the best I could with some degreaser , Gonna let it set till morning , Then hit it with the water hose . Again thank you for your help and keep up the good work on your videos , They have been very helpful in me repairing my car .

Would like to give a small tip, to remove the third bolt under the valve I developed a technique, attached pics to explain. Just in case someone feels difficulty in getting to it, i guess it’s called buddy wrench technique. And don’t even try the bolt without a small 10mm wrench. Cheers..

I`ve already replaced o ring in dist. , I`ve already taken Solenoid apart and cleaned it 2 times and this time I used gasket sealer , i`ve replaced valve cover gasket and all seals in it alsowith gasket sealer on both sides of gasket from cover to head, I`ve already changed oil and filter, only thing I havn`t changed is oil sending switch but it don`t look like it`s leaking . Hello bullet my master of accord's, I changed the idle actuator of my honda accord to 5 days and everything worked fine until today I called and the car had those acceleration oscillations again, I checked the car on the Scanner obd hondash and it doesn't work no error, what can i do to regulate this acceleration, is now getting between 1500 to 1800rpm with the car stopped in P or N.

Vikitor Sabino hey bro if you get a cheap part is going on fail, but first check for intake leak or probably the idle air control valve gasket is leaking!! But if the part is cheap get another one with new gasket

Your car automatic or manual? Mine's a manual. Was yours throwing a code or are you just replacing it for leak sake?
I had to change my rocker arm assembly, and after that I hit the road to make sure all was good. WELL, I was on second or third (manual) and hit it, then the car gave a slight jerk up around 3500-3600 rpm and CEL came on with vtec code. Car drives fine as long as I keep it below 3500 rpm, but I know something needs to be replaced, not sure what. Would you think I need an entire solenoid to be on the safe side or just change the gasket? Your thoughts?
