I remember being told very forcibly (alcohol was involved) that there's no such thing as a retired or ex US marine. My uncle was in 47 Royal Marines, he was killed on November 2 1944 but he's still regarded as on watch.
My first time ever listening to a Military Band playing Floyd. Absolutely AWESOME. Amazingly talented musicians. Thanks guys and girls. Brilliant!!!!!!!!
I'm a huge Floyd fan and I normally don't like others when they play Floyd songs but these guys were awesome. Great rendition. Really enjoyed this. Well done the royal marines band. But then again they're one of the best bands on the planet.
Taking into consideration the songwriting, each one’s musical talent and incredible stage performances, I would agree with Floyd being one of…if not THE best bands ever. Rush right there as well IMO. And I agree that I never look forward to a cover of a Floyd song. The Bands of HM Royal Marines did Floyd right!
The Reason is that the Drums are on a live Concert oft too loud, the Walls help the Protect the rest of the Emsemble , so that they also can hear thier own Instruments. I have sung in a Big Chorus with a about 75 Singers and at some Concerts with a 50 Head Orchester (Incl. Drums). Sometimes it is not easy ,when you sit near the Drum to concentrate on you own Sound and Singing.
@@lappilappland3708 I knew what it was, but couldn't put it into the proper words. Also something to do with the speakers/mics ? I do have to agree with the comment that the drummer (and guitarist) are pretty awesome. But then the entire symphony is...!
@@baronedipiemonte3990 Also with that Microphone Point. When you have a Chourus and Orchester mostly you need Mics, because it Difficult to sind as Chourus loud enough to get well heard over the Orchestra. And when you have Mics ,you must be carefull with Backloopes.
@@lappilappland3708 UA-cam is slacking because only today 7/15/21 did I get notice of your reply 🤷🏻♂️... My brother is an acoustics expert so he would definitely understand all that. The MUSICIANS of Her Majesty's Royal Marines are the best I've heard ("band" doesn't do them justice). It doesn't matter the genre of music. Regards from the USA
Royal Albert Hall 2017 - I was there on the first night (March 23) and this was the opening to the second half. My seat was in row 14 (still got the ticket!) and looking around as I realised where this was going there was a distinct 'WTF' look on peoples' faces but they nailed it.
Im not a big classical music fan but when orchestras play contemporary rock it sounds amazing. Seen a few vids of the RM playing quality music like this and they are brilliant.
Bootneck Band does Floyd! Somebody deserves a gong for this arrangement and the band and kids were superb. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Looking forward to Dave Gilmour and the rest of the guys tackling a beach landing now.
I know they have to all exercise the expected professional discipline in playing in this superb orchestra, but I do hope they also get to have some fun playing such rock classics!
I can remember playing this Pink Floyd number when I was aboard "The Old Red Plum" HMS Endurance in '89. My band was called Way Below Zero. I changed some of the lyrics to "We don't need no Regulating, We don't need no beer Control, No threat of pun's if we get shitfaced, Jossman leave our fridge alone. HEY JAUNTY, LEAVE OUR FRIDGE ALONE. All in all you're just another Prick at the wall." The Jaunty thought it hilarious. Happy days shipmates. ROCK'N'ROLL. JANBOY. RN. Rtd.
I wonder if the HM Royal Marines realize how fantastic they are? I sure hope when we visit the UK again we can catch their live performance. My father was Career military with the Canadian Armed Forces and was post to a small Base close to Rhosneigr Wales. We enjoyed 2 years living in Rhosneigr as my Father worked on a new missile system with the British Forces. I was only 12 but loved the experience. Had a great view of the RAF Valley watching all the lightenings taking off and landing and Red Arrows practicing for their Airshow performances. As an Adult have been back to visit a few times after a winters of guiding in the Swiss Alps. Always wondered why when visiting the UK I was asked many times if I was the Tim Rice. I said I’m Tim Rice but now sure who “The Tim Rice” is, then was educated on the wonderful music and plays of lyicist Tim Rice. That has been many years ago, now look forward to visit again and enjoy the beauty of the UK and now we have added the Bands of the HM Royal Marines to our list of must see performances. They are exceptional. Thanks for posting.
AMAZING is an understatement ! When the R.M.'s can play a piece BETTER than the original artist... Sorry Floyd, calls it like I see it. You're still the best with "Dirty Woman"...so far And for those who don't know any better, these Royal Marines, just like the United States Marine Corp band members - go through a very rigorous mental and physical exam just to be able to enlist. Lasts about a week. And both the British and American Marines can be called upon to set aside their instruments, pick up a rifle, and FIGHT
Cant wait for normal concerts resume I have been on many parade with rm bands and other military bands but never been to a concert like this. Life of ex sea cadet royal British legion standard bearer xx
Would never expect this tune from ANY Marine Band . You nailed it. Thank you from a US Retired Marine.

A brilliant performance, and the drummer and guitarist (Andy Platt) just sublime - rock stars in uniform!
"rock stars in uniform" a wonderfull oxymoron :-)
The drummer is cute
The Royal Marines have once again hit their target. Well done.

That drummer is so cool they had to put a shield around him to protect the audience from the awesomeness he radiates. :-)

The Conductor takes the cake
He brings that ‘touch’ which puts fire into the entire performance in a very special most remarkable way…
Touché‼️🥂🔥

Amazing performance!
Far too often when someone tries to cover Floyd they fall flat. Especially when it comes to Gilmore's guitar work. This was spot on.
When you're world class , it shows.
Just shows the versatility of the Royal Marines! Brilliant! Love it!

That might just be one of the greatest musical performances of these last years.
Corporal Drummer guy rocks, Sargeant Guitar dude hectic, fantastic ,well played ,the band nailed it.
Stunning. So proud to be British.

Amazing drummer... And in military uniform🤣.. what could be better. The best military band... In the world. Love to see them live.
That band of warriors got soul, great preformance by HM Band🙂
The greatest band in the world. Nobody compares.
The irony of a military band playing that song is just... **chef's kiss**
Excellent. Even the light show is a nod to Pink Floyd.
A few videos ago, I was thinking that it's all great, but can they do Floyd... I'm impressed.
My only word is : WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much for this song !!!

Serious guitar solo to take on in RAH given mr Gilmor is a regular act and the soul of the building knows how it should sound - good job royal!
Wow beautiful this music is awesome guys thank you for talent and sharing it to the public is much appreciated Lyn ❤🙏😄👏

Fabulous arrangement of this piece 👏🏻👏🏻🇨🇦
What you can't go through, go around or go under, go over !🙂 There is always a way
That's pretty bloody brilliant.... That's a classic, and not easy to do in an orchestra. Pretty much spot on.
Semplicemente grandi! Mi è piaciuto molto, e che fantastico finale!
That circular screen like in "Pulse" set... So good on the small details!
