Thanks so much for the video. Just used this to get to the wiring of my head unit and this made a huge difference to give me the confidence to get the trim apart without breaking anything.
There are 2 grooves just under the cigarette lighters once you pop them out you can get the unit out with out breaking any clips and a clean job....good video
All the cables were included, so it was a very quick installation. I did lose the analog audio jack function on the front of the dash. I'm not sure if your 2010 model has that or not. If I wanted to restore functionality to the audio jack, I would have had to locate which wire fed the analog audio, splice it, and then feed it to the AUX inputs, so that would have been an additional cable. I'm using the USB functionality and play my music off of that so the analog audio isn't a factor.
Hi, I also want to replace the stereo. What NAV system did you get and where? And the last question, the USB and aux connector worked with the new system?
The one I bought was $380 from [auto dvd gps dot com]. I see they have a couple newer models out now as well. The screen on mine is not the same quality as you would see on something like an iPhone. Because of the angle of the unit, when the sun shines through the windshield it washes out the image. The unit is curved to match my 2012 dash exactly, but I can't speak to the fit on a 2013 Kia.
Thanks dude, this vid is really helpful, wanted to ask you, what brand did u get? I found like 4 or 5 brands, i was hoping to find the geniune screen that comes with full optioned sorento but no luck yet, I dont want to get a cheap screen, what do u recommend? I have factory rear view camera and steering control.
Thanks skysurfer, just another question, I saw a few videos about the same installation and people mentioned that they couldn't use the usb, aux and ipod ports originally provided. Did you have the same issue? Have you tried to modify the cables of this stereo unit in order to keep using those ports?
Hi Skysurfer. Thanks for the video, quite informative. I have question for your. My sorento 2010 comes with the standard kia stereo system and I want to replace it with one of those chienese graphical stereo systems. When you installed yours, did you find all the necessary cables to connect it?
On my Kia, there was really no iPod port, just a small USB port and analog audio port which required a proprietary cable for the iPod supplied by Kia. My guess is that your cable will no longer work, because the analog audio port will cease to function. They supply you with a new iPod cable and I ran mine into the glove box. The USB port on the dash still works, and I can plug a thumb drive into it with music and it plays. Just no analog audio from the small 1/8" stereo port.
ha ha so remember the part where you say... work the blade in? take your time? dont rush it? rushed it... busted both bottom tabs! At least im finally making some progress! why wont they let us post photos of what NOT to do? :) lol
Skysurfer hello there. Can you help me out with my sorento 2012? ... The volume button on the right side of the screen (which I'm always using, not on the screen) is broken. Like whenever I'm pressing it, it does not "tick" like before. And I think it is stuck because when I press the + volume, the volume automatically goes up while the same thing with - volume. Both are broken. That's why I use the volume in the screen. How can I fix the volume buttons? Thank you...
Hey! Nice vid, helped me 100% removing the console trim. I see you have an aftermarket (Android?) radio sitting there. Were you able to connect steering wheel controls, rear camera and/or extra video screens (if any?). I am looking at one to upgrade my Pioneer AVIC-F910BT which has all correct connections. Thanks!
+Jeroen Brosens This one is a Chinese import that runs Windows embedded. The steering wheel buttons were programmable through the head unit. When I got it the volume buttons were reversed, so I had to reprogram the functions to work correctly, but it's all done through the head unit setup user interface. Some trial and error, but eventually it worked. This unit allows for two zone video, so it's possible to run a monitor to the rear and have programming running back there that is different from the front, but I've never messed with it. That said, I'd be hard pressed to say that mine is an upgrade from a Pioneer, it's fairly low end. The thing that makes it appealing is that it looks stock due to the contour matching the Kia's bevel exactly, and the mapping functions rival what you can get from the dealer for half the price. Otherwise, sound and functionality are just average. No regrets though, it does what I need it to do :)
Do you know of any compactable radio with apple car play that works for that kia? It is the same as mine and at least I found your video that explains it well and lets me see clearly that a radio touch can fit there but I would like to know what inch it is and if it has apple carplay, thanks for the video and the help
They are out there, but without seeing one reviewed online it's hard to judge how compatible they are with iOS. Most of these aftermarket head units are Android based now and despite claiming it works I'd really want to hear it from someone who installed one. www.belsee.com/belsee-best-wireless-apple-carplay-android-auto-stereo-upgrade-car-cd-dvd-audio-video-player-for-kia-sorento-2009-2010-2011-2012.html You may have heard that 2016 and newer Sorento owners who had purchased the UVO premium systems got free Carplay upgrades. There were other models that they upgraded at no charge that went as far back as 2014. Nice benefit for those owners that qualified.
Great video man. Just one question,I am replacing mine for an android unit with the frame already included ,can I just disconnect the passenger airbag light plug? Thanks
I never had to do that, but on another project I had to temporarily remove an airbag electrical connector that was under the driver's seat in order to route a cable. I just unplugged it, did my cabling and plugged it back in. When I started the engine, the airbag warning light came on and didn't go off until I cleared the error with my ECU tool. So I'd be careful with that, especially if the wiring is color coded in yellow. I don't have enough information on what qualifies as "tampering", so after my experience I just have to assume everything is until proven one way or the other.
This was an awesome video. I have an issue with the heated seat (driver side) flashing and not turning on. That, coupled a bad heating mod is all that is wrong with the car. Do you, or have you, heard of any fix for the heated seat and how to replace the heating mod? Thanks.
Thanks Nicholas! Sorry I don't have any specifics on the heater problem, other than according to the majority at Kia forums, the blinking light indicates a faulty heating element and will require disassembly of the affected seat. If I run across any how-to's I'll pass them along. Pretty limited info out there at the moment.
I'm very pissed. I have an 09 Sorento, and this is the closest I'm getting to a video. My center console is not nearly as accessible. I can't find where to detach it at all.
I don't know anyone with a 2011 KIA, but I do know that the stereo I installed was originally designed for a 2011 and it fit perfectly in my 2012 so there are similarities between the console designs. There is also another video on UA-cam that shows a 2011 specifically (this was the video that inspired me to do mine), and lo and behold the guy has trouble with the exact same part that I did. Do a search for mikesaudioimports.
Thank you. Do you know if or where the amp is? I have a 2012 sorrento. Stereo works but no sound. Bluetooth works they can hear me i cant hear them, sirius works etc just no sound. I tried all the little tricks I've read in all the forums and still nothing. Fuses, reset button, disconnected battery etc.. Took it to kia today and they said i needed a new unit but of course its not under warranty. I'm wondering if maybe I just need an amp or if there is possibly a lose connector someplace? Oh yeah, they just replaced my engine about 3000 miles ago but the stereo worked for the past 3 weeks or so.
Try looking under the passenger seat or drivers seat. I think I discovered it once by accident with the vacuum cleaner. I have never removed it, so can't help with specifics there.
Okay thanks so much I've looked under both. I read somewhere that the harness to the amp was under the drivers seat and followed one under the floor towards the front of the car under the rug by the gas pedals. the other ones went to the power seats when I disconnected them this is a total bummer. I'm going to call Kia and bitch to corporate tomorrow since this happened after they replaced the engine and try to get them to cover it. and I don't want the crappy uvo stock unit since the no longer provide support or updates for it. if I have to end up paying for a new unit I'm hoping I'll find something that's compatible. thanks so much for the reply. totally bummed out
I had the basic sound system, non premium, in mine. From what I've been reading, mine did not come with an amp. I took a peek under the seats, and all I have under there is vents, so that's obviously what I ran my vacuum cleaner into. Lurking in other forums, it sounds like the premium sound system has the JBL amplifier under the seats. Strangely though, I do have a 30 amp fuse, and the legend says AMP. I pulled the fuse, and my stereo still operated normally, there was no difference in sound whether it was in or out. In another video I saw here on UA-cam, there was a user who had problems with the radio, and checked all the fuses having anything to do with "audio", but eventually found the problem was related to a blown fused labeled "module". Geesh, could it get any more confusing? Best of luck on your search.
I'm not sure of the difference between the basic and premium. All I see under the seats are a few harnesses which the local stereo guy insists are for the power seats. One of the bundles travels under the drivers side floor to who knows where. I also have the 30 amp fuse which i've checked and its good. BUT... if the amp itself is shot then pulling the fuse would do me no good. Yeah I watched that module fuse video too but it wasnt that either. When I took it to Kia they pulled the big yellow thing from the front of the fuse box. I'm not near my car now so can't tell you what it was. He pulled it with the car running and the radio on. (not sure if that makes a difference just adding it for future reference) I'll update later with the name of it. Too bad we can't add photos. Not sure if I mentioned that KIA replaced my entire engine about 3000 miles ago. The radio worked fine for about 2000 of those miles then out of the blue... no sound. Thanks for the luck it seems I will need it. Of course It's not covered and if I have to buy a new system it will NOT be from KIA. Going to watch videos on how to remove the unit from the console!
The UVO systems in the 2012 are prone to just crapping out, no sound. I had the same issue, everything worked except no sound. I tested the amp and it was fine. The new radio was $850 from KIA and I basically told them to pound sand. I got a much better apple play JVC for $550 with a bigger screen and it is awesome. Basically, the UVO systems earlier than the 2014 SUCK!
Great video thanks man! I already get to replace my RCA cables running to one of my amps and was procrastinating until I saw your video! Check my Skar Audio videos out on my channel, running around 3000W in my 2011 Sorento!
I got mine at autodvdgps.com, but you can find them at Amazon now as well. Just pay extra attention to matching a head unit that is compatible with the year of your vehicle so it's a perfect match to the dashboard.
Awesome video, very helpful! The problem I had is my temper, I hit the center console and made it so the A/C, rear defrost and other two buttons weren't retracting, so the button was never getting pushed for them. Since it's cold now, we need the rear defrost and I was taking this part out so I could replace it. Once I got the part out, I decided to take it apart too becuase, why not? Turns out the plastic part of the button which the user pushes slipped off of the rubber pad on the circuit inside that actually causes the rear defrost and such to turn on/off. So, I just put the part back together and, viola! Back in working order. Hopefully this will help someone with a similar issue. The part I needed to replace is $85 on amazon, here's the link. ----> www.amazon.com/dp/B00NMO1ZXM
You are a KING 💯. DONT STOP MAKING VIDS. YOU ARE GOOD AT IT AND THE TRICKS ARE SUPER TIME SAVERS.
Thanks so much for the video. Just used this to get to the wiring of my head unit and this made a huge difference to give me the confidence to get the trim apart without breaking anything.
You supplied the magic hint. Those 4 clips. I used a very thin paint scraper to get at them. Thanks so much!!
You saved me like 300 bucks Man. Thank you again
Thanx for this tutorial, it is really useful. On some models not necessary to remove the knob, because the skirt of gearstick could be opened.
Thx for the excellent post, had my stereo out in less than 15 min because of this vid.
Thank you. This got me through the first part of a remote starter installation.
please where did you buy your remote starter?
Still broke the bottom clips but this videos helps me a lot 🙌🏻
You and me both! It doesn't take much at all to snap those off.
Excellent, I'm really glad you found the video useful. Your roof flex video made me smile man, that was great. :)
Thanks a lot man!!! This video is perfect for what I need!!! Great job!
Excellent video. Thanks for taking the time to do that!
thanks for taking the time to make this video.
thank you so much been looking for something like this, very informative, very well explained with measurements and everything, subscribing
Glad it helped, it was enjoyable to make, especially since I've accomplished so many other projects with the help of UA-cam video creators.
Thank you for the video. I knew I could count on UA-cam. I had to remove the carpet from a 2013 Sorento and the center console is the same.
There are 2 grooves just under the cigarette lighters once you pop them out you can get the unit out with out breaking any clips and a clean job....good video
Thanks man! Not bad for two little 8's, I think I need to go through a re tighten every screw in there now though!
You're welcome. So glad this helped you out!

Thanks dude! You have helped me a lot......God bless!
Glad you found it useful! :)
Great tutorial! Thanks for making it so clear. Do you remember if the factory stereo has any outputs for an amp?
Excellent tutorial. Thank you!
Glad it helped!

Nice video. I wish I could find an Android radio that supported all the connectors the OEM Navigation system has.
btw
My car is 2013, the head unit looks a bit curvy.
Thanks dude
hi good morning please can y help me to remove the console of kia carens 2008

Desearía tener la información de como reemplazar el filtro de la cabina de un KIA Sorento petrolero año 2006 Muchas gracias

5 bucks they make a trim removal kit to remove almost anything inside a vehicle. Worse tutorial explaining with a knife.
