To everyone complaining about EHXs attitude towards names and graphics: one of their first iconic pedals was the "big muff", that was almost 50 years ago. this is what they are and what Mike Matthews (god bless him) is. And thank god for that!
The graphics are simply dated, and not in a retro or cool way. This is actually a perfect example,- maybe the ugliest design they produce. With the logo only on the top, and the rest left bare, IMO,- just not a good look. The more extreme logos, - like the Muff, or the Cockfight ,are more classic EHX, but if you're making inexpensive enclosures, keeping it simple, - like Walrus, or EQD, two color,- is the way to go. EHX never had any single " style" until they started mass producing the top only graphics. The company has gone through several fits and starts.
@@ebeep It's relatively easy to just pull all the interior and sand the top off.I've done this with a few of their pedals.IMO, this is one of the better comps going at any price.
My experience with this one is is that it’s a great pedal but never subtile it adds an agressive fat bite to your attack and it does the country squeesing really well, but it’s not the allways on pedal that the Seymour Duncan Vise Grip is for me.
Does the Tone Corset tie the clean signal to the pedal's volume/output like the Vise Grip does? That's the only thing I don't like about the Vise Grip.
You mean jazz? =P Try Joe Pass, Wes Montgommery, ... for starters and if you want the more reverby dreamy stuff there's an oversaturated market on that nowadays (mac demarco would be the starting point there probably)
This and the Keeley + model are getting a lot of hype right now. I have trouble with compressors once I add OD/Fuzz into the equation.(at least playing live)
I agree. I just sold my compressor pedal. I was getting so much noise with the it turned on if I had and distortion or overdrive after it. Clean it was okay. Listening to this I hear a ton of noise again when joe has it turned up. He does say in the video it’s typical for compressors can be noisy so maybe that’s just the trade off. Like it or lump it. I’m not sure I like it
Like any pedal it's situational. No need to use it all the time. But sometimes it may be just what the doctor ordered. When playing clean with a lot of reverb and some delay a compressor is a nice addition to the sound.
I started with the TC , and traded up to some much talked about comps, - the JHS P&P, Keeley +,Xotic, etc,- and TBH, despite being slightly noisier, I think the TC is the best. The graphics are horrible, and don't grow on you,- an issue EHX need to resolve; they could make the designs simpler, and cheaper, and it would def help their sales.EHX are known for " affordable" , which is cool, but being cheap, and looking so, needn't be an issue.
Anyone know if the 100% clean signal in the clean blend is tied to the volume/output level? I have a Wampler Ego and have also tried a Seymour Duncan Vise Grip; both have this issue. The compressed signal needs to be boosted to unity, but when blending in clean, the clean no longer sounds like the bypassed signal as it's boosted considerably by the pedal's volume/output. Annoying. I'm hoping the Tone Corset has a true parallel audio path, allowing the blend of compressed signal and bypass signal.
I have the same question. I have a Keeley Compressor Plus, but I need to keep the Level at 2 for unity if I have the Blend at 100% Clean, otherwise I get volume drop. I'm also looking for a compressor with blend that allows for a real parallel signal. Or are we misunderstanding how compression works?
the bass channel did a great demo of it, check it out! It has a blend knob and attack knob which should make it versatile enough for all basses. compression is something you have to try out yourself to really tell how it reacts
Great demonstration. But what microphones are you using to mic the amp? I find it can be hard to record a heavily affected sound and still be true to what is coming out of the amp.
Yes, I understand what they do. And in theory might be useful. But I have yet to come across a demo that demonstrates one in a positive light, to be honest. This one included
@@hammill444 that’s because if you use a compressor for what it’s actually supposed to be used for, you won’t hear it on youtube. UA-cam already compresses the audio, to save bandwidth. Subtle compression is used to even out small dips and peaks, to enrich the sound and make your instrument easier to play. It also makes your instrument fit in a mix better. And lastly it can just be a tone betterer knob, fattening up your sound ever so slightly. But all these things get lost in the youtube squash, so it wouldn’t make sense to demo it…
I'm looking for a compressor that can get the best sustain without spending a fortune....I'm torn between this and the boss cs3......has anyone used both that has an opinion?
Mike Matthews is responsible. Back in the days he invented the Big Muff Pi. What an offensive name for that aera and still today. Can't stop playin this little f*****er...
idk why but when I use the neck hum bucker with the compressor I lose a lot of highs (like I turn the tone nob to 1). But when I turn it off the highs are normal for a neck pickup

The graphics and the creative names is what i love about EXH. People complaining can go and buy some ugly DOD pedal with a serious name.
Modestoney I love it about them, unique names that are relevant but not boring or overly technical.
That said, I think this might be the ugliest pedal ever. If I end up liking it, it's getting a paint job.

The fact that it has a Blend knob means everything at this price point !! Thanks EHX !
Came to see the pedal run through it paces and now I want a Reverend Double Agent. :)
It's an awesome guitar!
For a cheaper alternative (still with P-90 on the neck and humbucker on the bridge) check the G&L Fallout (thank me later B-) )

Fuzz kind of act as a compressor on its own, so its best to not use your compressor pedal on top of it

Grandisimo pedal mejoro muchisimo mi sonido ! es una version mejorada del kelley
Why is everything Joel plays that same staccato/choppy style
its mr fake motorcycle pants
Justin L I actually find the pants pretty cool !
I like it
Choppy playing would be the best to demonstrate effects. Obviously with compressors but also reverb, delay, filters etc.
What pedal are you using here in the intro?
Great demonstration. But what microphones are you using to mic the amp? I find it can be hard to record a heavily affected sound and still be true to what is coming out of the amp.
Is Joel available on Facebook?
Anyone know the name of intro song?
It's probably far off, but it kinda sounds like he's jamming Rolling On by the Murlocs.
I thought his guitar sounded better with the pedal not engaged. I just don't get compressors.

Same. I have this pedal but still. I prefer the dynamics and over all tone of an uncompressed guitar.

It’s a great name for what a compressor do.
Great name.

Not bad... but who at EHX is responsible for these past 5 years of stupid pedal names and terribly unattractive graphics? It's time to stop.
