Fripping heck! That Belew my mind!
agree, always nice to hear cool King Crimson riff instead of abstract shit slow ambient chrod progressions))
I have only just discovered this gem. You could say it's 4 pedals in one--a compressor, a limiter. an overdrive and a slow attack. My next purchase!
Bach and King Crimson ....and that faux pedal steel bit ... super Rupert!
I bought this pedal as "let em see if I like compressor" . Now it's the centerpiece of my pedalboard, the drive is a hidden gem. I use it more than my dedicated drive pedal. 10/10 score.
your demo guy is hands down one of the best in the business.
Frippin cool. Belew me away.
I've been buying EHX effects since the late '60s/early '70s because they keep coming out with gear that nobody else has and at a much lower price,if a competitor does happen to have it.This is another unique and innovative pedal that I'll have to add to my pedal fleet,it could possibly replace my E-Bow .Keep 'em comin' Mike and I'll keep on buying them.
You never disappoint. Always doing an outro to almost beg for another 5 minutes. Great demo video.
I admire the creativity and daring of EHX!
This is my next purchase, I love what this pedal do to the sound and this are few of the sounds that I've been searching for. THX for the great demo. Keep rocking dude!!!
That is a really useful, versatile, pedal. Well done EHX, you've managed to squeeze another effect onto my pedal board.
Great playing by Bill Ruppert!
I actually enjoyed this demo more than I was expecting
Fantastic demo. Belew, Fripp, and compression, my kind of demo!
Hey Bill!, Great King Crimson/Adrian Belew licks, very cool my friend !!
I always dreamed about a stereo compressor pedal and you guys at EHX have just materealized my wishes! Thank you! I will definitely have one and pair it with my Sp 404SX. I already own a Cathedral and I love it.Great job guys!
Excellent guitar playing!
Cool. Awaiting sound demo for bass :)
Great Gear. But - Bill - your playing is phenomenal - as always. Your "Sultans Of Bill" - crazy and so beautiful! 👍👍👍
Holy crap - you guys are amazing! I have always sworn by your effect pedals - reliable - innovative and real quality at an affordable price for the depth of effects they offer. Recently I purchased the Canyon pedal - blows me and my audience away every time. Your Mel 9, B9, Soul Food and others are always part of my arsenal live and in the studio. This one is a keeper as well, stunning possibilities with this. Thank you!
I have a Soul Food, a B9 and looking hard at the Canyon ... and now this!
Great Bach hommage!!!
This is the pedal I've been waiting for!
By the way, cool crimsonian examples...
wow!!! i want this pedal!!! Well done EHX
That intro track is awesome, I keep starting the video again to listen to more of it! Reminds me of Primus
King Crimson!
Wow - this guy is a genius !
I was sold the second he started playing Elephant Talk
This has a very enticing feature set. I may well be getting this.
me : "hmm I just need a compressor to replace the dynacomp, it's a decent compressor but it just isn't for me"
me after watching this : " I definitely need a more than just a compressor, in fact it also needs overdrive as well as an auto swell and infinite sustain feature"
thanks a lot guys.... I haven't felt the need to buy new gear in a good while until now.
Nice, just bought the Pitchfork pedal and now I want this one so bad!
pls put your R&D on hold for a while and give Bill a vacation. I'm broke and my pedal board is nuts-deep in EHX
Another Masterpiece!
I'd use this pedal for jamming to castle's made of sand, with that delayed pick attack.
Their is a lot of creative possibilities in this pedal.
fantastic sounds
I recently bought this and I really like it. Together with the Canyon you can get some great sounds. Put the Canyon in Octave and turn up the Sustain on the Platform and you have a nice church organ tone all the way to steel drums, depending on your attack and other tweaks. It's great fun.
Need this. Been wanting to emulate the human voice and I think this will help
Great Demo.... product is on my list.
KING CRIMSON!!!!
I thought I heard some Andy Summers - Robert Fripp "I Advanced Masked" in there. Congratulations on another great pedal.
Pedal steel licks with the auto swell are mondo cool :)
I pulled the trigger on one before the video ended.
the swell up with the no pick attack is a cool effect
Awesome video
If this had a blend knob it would've been perfect
omg yes
Elephant Talk . . . sweet . .
I would be very happy to see some Analogue drum machines processed via
this compressor. Curious to see how for instance the "drumbrute" would
perform since some of these sounds could use some extra compression,
especially the kicks. Thank you for being such great company by the
way, I use your stuff on all kinds of things, from vocals to synths to
guitars and keyboards. The rawness and psychedelic touch makes it my
favorite! Keep it strange please :)
Brutal me encantaría tener ese pedal😍
Good post I,ll get one.
can't wait available in Asia!!!
I didn't know Adrian Belew and Robert Fripp used to demo EHX products :O
Wait till Gilmore joins in with Lennon sometimes…..
This looks like it would be awesome for the Chapman Stick.
YES~! Bring to Summer NAMM thx!
Wow my purchase!!!!!!!!!!!!
I usually don't like the sound of compressors, but this one seems to sound really good, and has a ton of extra tones and features (including the drive). I think I will probably get one before too long. Leave it to EHX to come up with something new and great, rock on.
You guys should really slow down making these awesome innovative pedals!
Very nice indeed 😎
nice kemper back there!
Great product ...
Really great pedal. Not surprised... EHS is my favorite pedal company!!! Just thinking that this pedal might sub well for a steel guitar and pay for itself many times over...
Big brother to the Tone Corset!
Because of that cello and violin swell, I subscribed
Right???
1:36 Wow, where have they been hiding this cool device? This cat's got it happening too!
SWEET!!
My two Nordstrand fat stacks thank you.
nice. wish it had tuner setting too that would be lots of space saved
Great demo . . just wish you would've done some slide playing to show how the compressor does that way. This would be way cheaper than an Origin Effects Slide Rig if it can even come close to how it compares.
I want his job, his gear and his skill set.
...I Like It....!
I want the swell feature in its own pedal!
Could I use this instead of a real rack mount compressor right before an audio interface?
I really want that Knopfler/nashville compression sound in the example, also the nice drive play out, but I clocked the Kemper' running behind you and having owned one I know that its a lot to do with what we are hearing , so keeping a wary eye on the units performance,
The Kemper was set completely clean and with no compressor effect.
the amp was a squeaky clean Fender profile. Infact some of the clips were a Roland VG-99 clean amp NOT the Kemper. The comp and OD effects you hear are the Platform
Hey, that's pretty godd
Bill can you please give me 'clock' settings for the steel guitar sound?
Hello! Great demo, as always! Can I use this pedal between the 1/4" stereo output of my mixing console, and either my PA, in live gigs (when they happen, hehe), or an iOS audio interface (like the TC Helicon Go Twin or the iRig pro) for livestreams from my iPhone? Will it fatten the sound and can I create a stereo image? Will the limiter be efficient bit not to harsh to control the output volume? A lot of questions, I know, but thank you! (Already have a BigMuff Pi, the B9, the Mel9, considering the Key9 or the Synt9, and if you create someting like a GrandPiano9 or Steinway&Sons9 take my money in advance please thank you).
Hi Brislee It is stereo in and out so the stereo field will be what you put in. For exact specs on input max voltage please cont the techs at info@ehx.com
EHX Thanks a lot for your answer!
Hey I'm really interested in this pedal but i have a question about the type of circuit of the overdrive side of the pedal. Is it the one with a mid peak ( tube screamer type) or is it more "transparent" type ( keeps your guitar tone pretty much the same) ?
I feel its more transparent
@@EHX awesome, thats what I need, thank you.
Can you use the drive section as a volume boost for solos?
Is this a good pedal for Yamaha Motif XF to add punch and a little grit?
Very interesting. I'm quite compressor-curious.
Give me a chance, dont start this with elephant talk or I'll buy it before the video ends
Great video! I picked up a Platform today. Can you please tell me the setting you used for the clean part of the Elephant Talk riff?
Hi Dean
Thanks, go to 0:24 in the video and that is it!
Super pump compression. My fav sound.
Thanks! Gonna plug in my Chapman Stick and try it out!
YES!
I had to voice it for guitar so I did the best I could keeping it in E.
Have fun! Lots of control so twist away.
Love the tones you're pulling out of this thing, Bill. How much will it cost?
Thanks $159.00 US
I think my search for a compressor has ended
Some reviewers have complained of high-freq clock whine; any tips or ideas there? I've had a little bit of that with other digital pedals in my otherwise-analog chain...
Any noise is due to using cheap non isolated daisy chain power supplies.
Use a supply with isolated outputs or use the EHX supply that comes with the pedal.
If you are stuck with a cheap supply you can get an isolator plug Diago PS-09
who here remembers the electro Harmonix site on 48th Street where you could go and play all the instruments.
@EHX How do we control the threshold and ratio in this? And does that swell do the attack hiding thing the POG does?
The knobs adjust threshold. It is a similar slow attack to the POG but not polyphonic like the POG or the Attack decay pedal.
@@EHX which knob? There is just attack and release?
The Sustain knob controls the overall level of compression. So think of it as a threshold/ratio control.
@@EHX From the manual, the sustain knob does not control the threshold in compression mode, only in limiter mode. In compression mode (when the "limiter" button is not on) ithe threshold is locked at -35dB and the sustain knob controls only the ratio.
I have several effects in my chain that get too LOUD and start to clip my audio interface. if I turn off the knee and limiter do I get a more studio like compression that will tame my nutty pedals? (SL-2 and SY-1 pedals).
Sure that would keep levels under control very well.
Literally the exact same pedals / reason I’m looking at this.
Boss slicer gets unpredictably loud.
Wonderful sound, you please tell me what guitar you are using, it has a glorious tone, and amp please?
Thanks
Ibanez Premium RG920, Lap Axe EX, Ibanez Custom RG and the amps are Kemper Profiler and Roland VG-99
Many thanks which is the first model the red coloured guitar with maple fretboard is that the RG920?
EHX, how does this compare functionally to the Black Finger? Understand it's digital vs analogue, but does one produce a smoother end result (ie less high order harmonics) than the other ?
I have both here and they are both great...Being digital it is less noisy that the tube unit. But I love both.
platform or white finger?
This looks and sounds amazing! Though, I'm not sure how I would run it with a wah-wah pedal. I get the best results running compression before Wah and drive post Wah in my signal path.
Do you guys offer a "Try it before you Buy it" program? 😜
And how 'bout that EHX Bit-Crusher? 😉
Put this in front of a wah
EHX when's it released?
Should be next week.
Talk! It's aaaallll talk
EHX, could this be a replacement for a cheap EQ pedal that I use as a volume/treble/clean boost?
It will boost and add treble but that is on the drive side. Not really a clean boost
hi, I wonder if low values of the swell parameter permit fast tracking, for instance for fast legato playing?
How does it compare to the micro synth's attack parameter which has a pretty fast and subtle response for fast playing as it also works with the trigger parameter? I am not sure which one to get.
Thanks
Tracks great I think the same.
sorry not sure what you mean: which swell works better for fast notes playing, the Platform compressor or the micro synth? Thanks
They work about the same for fast playing.
Is the Swell effect exactly the same as Attack on the POG 2? And am I right in thinking that this is, er, multi-trigger, if that's the right term. By which I mean, if you play 2 notes in fairly quick succession, the second note will swell in the same, and also not affect the volume of the first note?
As far as I can see every other auto-volume pedal operates on a kind of single envelope basis, whereby if you want the second note to swell, you have to wait til the first note has finished swelling first. And of course with a volume pedal, swelling a second note will first lower the volume of the first note.
Sorry to be longwinded!
it is a single envelope basis. You would need a hexpick up to do multi triggers.
Thanks for the quick reply! So is the POG2 Attack feature the same?
Yes!
I'm also wondering about the swell and if it's got the same dynamic as the pog
Is there a way to adjust the threshold setting for the compressor, or only for the limiter?
The sustain knob works for both compressor and limiter.
Would you use this before or after a digital amplifier like a strymon iridium? or is that up to taste?
I would use it before.
I just ordered one
Long time HOG2/BM user, is the digital latency of the DSP similar to the HOG2’s and what is the latency of them?
This is much faster
Is there a drum demo out there somewhere?
How does it work on bass? Does it retain low end pretty well?
It works GREAT!
EHX Any chance of a demo on other platforms (Eh? Eh?) like bass, keys, or vocals?
What’s the difference between the cello sound of Platform & the cello sound of Mel 9?
The Platform swells the volume in on your guitar. The Mel9 is a the sound of a mellotron. They are very different in sound
There are two inputs and two outputs. If you wired it so that L was a clean channel (direct from guitar) and R went through a bunch of effects - would this compressor make their two levels comparable with each other?
Yes in levels
A pretty classic setup really.
Will this work well with acoustic guitars? Also is the drive independently switchable from the compressor?
Yes it great with any instrument. The left foot switch turns the drive on.
Awesome! Thanks so much for the quick reply and for all the continually great products! Some of the best product demos too! Any idea on price?
Thank you the price is $159 US
Great! Thanks again!
I play a great deal of solo finger style, their pedals, no matter which (okay, maybe not distortion LOL) are amazingly good with acoustics. Recently I applied the Canyon delay pedal to my harp guitar (12 string guitar and 6 bass harp strings). Sounds like a full orchestra!
