Like I said above, I'm reluctant to get this one because I already have the Canyon, and wanted something simpler like a Holy Grail. Though I'll say it again, this pedal is a reverb WET dream.
Is this just a bunch of similar effects to the Canyon but in reverb guise? I've got a Canyon and a lot of the sounds with mod, octave, sustain and reverse sound the same (just dryer because it's delay).
Thanks for the demo...as someone who has thrown more than my share of EHX pedals across the room for their failings I've got to say that this and the Canyon have been unexpectedly inspiring. EHX I salute you!
I can’t believe how much this pedal does and how good all of it sounds. I was sold on the spring setting as a back up to my surfy bear tank but holy cow does this pedal pack in the modes! Multiple trems and a decent vibe sound??? Adjustable pitch shifting?!?! EHX how are you doing this? Also great review.
Reverse-Enginering! Some where in upstate NY a touring band from another galaxie crash landed and scattered the bands equipment .EHX got ahold of some of this and has had it's technical team reverse engineering it to make it available to us terrestrial musicians so we can expand our sonic vocabulary within the Universal Language of music. Maybe.
Picked up the first one off the truck at Chicago Music Exchange today. This is an absolutely great pedal. They really nailed it! Great combination of tone, functionality and simplicity. I was late meeting friends tonight due to this thing :-)
I went Neunaber about a year ago and haven't looked back, but if I was still reverb shopping this would definitely be on the list! I have the canyon and it's super cool, glad they kept it going here!
I've done some really cool effects with the INF setting mixed with a wah and really low treble setting for expression . When my band drops down for solos I prefer slow stylistic licks and riffs this is great for anything atmospheric or Pink Floyd sounding leads. This pedal is my favorite reverb I've seen/played so far
Thank you so much for this demo. I probably watched it about three or four times. I bought an Ocean's 11 for myself and heard what people were talking about in terms of digital artifacts. I found that if you turn off the trail switch on the bottom of the pedal, it eliminates a lot of that sound. I don't hear that symbol like sound anymore.
I had the Stryman blue sky V1 Reverb pedal for a while and really loved it but one of my students has this pedal and he loaned it to me and I ended up purchasing one from musician's friend. I had $150 in credit so I ended up only paying about $15 including shipping for the pedal! So far I'm loving it. It's quite different than the blue sky and I think much more versatile. The only thing that I would like to see added to this pedal is the pre-delay. I found that to be a really useful addition to the blue sky. New subscriber and new fan and I really appreciate you taking us through all the aspects of this fine pedal at a slow pace that we can all understand. Mine didn't come with instructions so this demo of yours is indispensable!
This pedal is insane... Never would have thought something like a Reverb pedal would have all of this.. You can easily go from surf rock to unplayable robot rock insanity with a turn of a knob.. I just picked this pedal up a week ago and been playing 4 hours a day non-stop and still can't figure everything out and I've found the instructions to be a bit confusing 🤣 What sucks is that I'll dial it in and get the perfect sound and then forget how to get back.. I need to write everything down now once I dial in the sounds I want.. This really needs savable preset settings but I think that the Oceans 12 might have that, IDK 🤷🏻♀️..
Thanks for such a comprehensive review without rushing and being relaxed. Oh yeah and not being snooty like other reviewers is awesome too. Keep the good stuff comin'.
I agree with some of the comments here. With this many things going on, I wish it was bigger, to avoid all the menu diving (hidden (secret controls)) but still, one of the quality sounding pedals out there.
This works as a very versatile reverb pedal, and then they had to throw in the built in delay (with tap tempo) AND a tremolo AND modulation. I need this
Thank you for showing the settings I bought this I had really wanted the surf rider effect pedal the price never went down $2.000 buck's this was a little bit cheaper I like your videos and your guitars keep rocking.😎
Totally impressed. Used to have a Topanga, but sold it. Was thinking of getting another, but I think I'm leaning more toward this Oceans 11 pedal. Love the spring, and the rest of the options sound like a LOT of fun!
I didn't know the mode button could do that. I'm happy I learned though, and I was surprised about the pitch fork lo and hi function too. I knew I watched this for.a good reason. I can't wait to start really working on my sound...nice review.
What's flipping me out as I delve into this thing, the first thing about a pedal like this or the Electro Harmonix Canyon is they are deep. They are too technical to use fully on the fly, but at the same time they make it so the first few setting are basically what the pedal is. There is no secondary mode, it's just digital reverbs or digital delay. Simple and good. But when you dive into other settings, like SHIMMER on the Oceans 11, In order to get SHIMMER, EHX needed to stack other EHX effects on top of each other, Chorus, Flanger, I think the Deluxe Memory Man was emulated I'm the chain, so if you go into shimmer, and you hold the secondary button for 2 seconds, you will get 3 modes. The light will be either green, red, or orange which you can cycle with the foot switch. Each of those modes allows you to basically separate the effects, so you get a Flanger. A good Flanger. Jet engine unchained flanger. Unchained. I always think "Lover boy, This Could Be The Night". Chorus too. Echo does the same thing with Delay. I think there's Tremolo or Vibrato and a few other things too. It's wild. These are not practically accessed in a real life situation unless you're being simple Spring, Hall, Plate, but as a pedal to mess around with tones, this thing has a lot.
EHX really seem to have knocked it out the park with this one. If I needed a new reverb pedal this would have to be top of the list. Extremely versatile; great price; and compact size. This should be a big hit. I can foresee them bringing out an expanded deluxe version of this in a few years, in their larger enclosure size with saveable presets, etc
I think they hit it out of the park even more because it seems targeted also at people that already have reverb by hitting the points a lot of other pedals don't do well
Great demo! I’m in the market for a new reverb pedal and this just might be the one! Totally in love with the Spring setting after watching your other video. I’m super obsessed with surf music, but don’t play it enough to justify a dedicated amp.
I bought the pedal because of your review of the “drippy” aspect of it, but I didn’t get the instructions with it. You have made my day with this run through! There is so much fun stuff in this pedal apart from the “drip”! Thanks for doing this.. I wonder what the Oceans 12 is like?
I am very tempted to get this pedal hmmmm. I got the canyon a couple weeks ago as i needed a delay and thought the other setting would be nice to have however i barely use it as a delay because it makes so many amazing sounds like modulation chorusy shit that just sounds so good and its so much fun. i feel like this pedal would also have a lot of hidden sounds.
under rated but one of the great versatile and affordable pedal available! definitely taking this one for my 1st pedal board assemble. thanks for this walktrough
Great video dude, just the right amount of time spent playing with each setting to give viewers a good idea of the pedal as a whole, And you're a likeable person to =) I'll likely be purchasing the oceans 11 based on this review. Loving the Airline's on the back wall btw! Is the white one an original vintage 'plastic' body? thanks!
both the airlines are modern reissues (made of wood). The O11 is a great buy! i use it all the time, the spring and dynamic verbs are my favorite settings.
Another great demo! Thank you. You have actually helped me a lot in understanding my bass tone. I would love for you to check it out here. Thanks again for the demos and all the great info.
This is the first video I watched of yours. I really enjoyed it. I like your approach and attitude. I look forward to watching more of your content. I think you sold me I the pedal and think that EHX definitely should send you pedals to review. So if I can do anything to get that ball rolling? I think your subscribers would agree. Anyway, great job l, kee
You should've messed with the tone on the shimmer effect before using the middle button which made the reverb sound wild (still a cool sound) to get a more natural shimmer sound
Dug some of the options on this ,- the Spring , Reverse, and Auto are outstanding,~but it seemed to respond poorly in my chain. Now that I've acquired the means to run in parallel, will give it another shot. It's a solid, small , package, with some unique effects I otherwise wouldn't have the space for, and being big on Spring, it's the choice before moving on to more specialized ,~and pricey, pedals.
I like my Topanga but it's not enough drippy for that surf rock tone. Is the Ocean's 11 can have the Topanga kinda westcoast blues/Reverend Horton Heat kinda reverb like the Topanga?
Need a reverb expert!! I heard a reverb once that sounded like you were going down a hole into hell. Very dark and ominous. What type/pedal am I looking for? Thanks!!
Im thinking about buying this pedal or the canyon, I know the canyon has a reverb setting but I don't know if the sound is the same or the difference varies a lot
What? The king of surf dorks wasn't given one of these by EHX? I think you probably should have asked. lol. That is a terrific reverb and a good demo of it! Thanks.
Well, that kind of sucks. You were partially responsible for me buying a Fernweh from JPTR. Might have to look at your video catalog to see if you have any Oceans 11 demos with distortion in front of it or behind.@@60CycleHumcast
Great video! Is the reverb within the Trem setting spring or plate? Can’t really tell. Also, do you have the ability to choose a reverb type within the Trem setting?
I said something similar in your drip shootout vid, the this is the yang to the Ehx Canyon's yin. Since I already have a Canyon, I'm reluctant to get one, but admittedly, it's killer reverb all around, whereas Canyon is a delay with a reverb setting. Also, I overlooked the tremolo setting in other demos. Cool setting. If I do get one, my Canyon might get a lot less playing time, especially since I mostly use it as a reverb boost anyway.
I use them both! i tend to favor the dmm setting on the canyon and obviously the spring but also the dynamic setting on the 011. I kind of wish ehx would come out with a double pedal of the two.
@@60CycleHumcast The DMM setting is cool too. That's probably my second fave to reverb setting. Mariana Tench would be a great name for a double version, and yes. It should happen. I was annoyed when the Grand Canyon came out after having the Canyon and can't use the looper and delay at the same time, but you can for twice the jack. lol
This oceans 11, micmix master room, AKG BX20 if im doing some surfy stuff or anything that needs heavy spring. Most amps don't really do it. Although i really dig blues jr reverb and i normally dont like small tank sounds. Prob the best of the small ones but it helps that the amp sounds killer!
The manual is confusing af 😂 This Pedal is crazy.. From watching this video I just found out about the secret settings by holding down mode.. I don't remember seeing that in the manual 🙄🥴 The manual isn't much help and I just end up spending hours dicking around turning knobs.. I never would have thought that a small Reverb pedal would be so complicated.. 🙄😫
This is the kind of pedal that can really free up space on your pedal board. I already hear a suitable replacement for a Trem, Chorus, and Octaver. If you only use them in one or two parts, why not?
At first they might seem very different but I think this seems a lot like a digital mini version of EHX Epitom3 which often fights to be my favorite pedal.
Having a lot of fun with my new Oceans 11, buuut, when I switch to tremolo setting from spring (set to give "drip") I get the weirdest distortion. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Sounds great! I can't seem to find info on whether this has an option for using it with a battery rather than plugging it in. Can you use a battery with this pedal?
I love my Oceans 11 but it has proved unreliable. It constantly does this thing where the “on” indicator light flashes and it acts like it is cutting on and off. I’ve tried to do the hard reset (by holding the switch down) but it continues to give me trouble.
Hall 0:40

Oh bless you
No spring?
The Ocean's 11 and Canyon together seem like they they could work together to form a solid foundation for a post-rock or shoegazer's board
Yung Vulpix vvvvvvvvv
I have both and you are right. They are fabulous together!
Like I said above, I'm reluctant to get this one because I already have the Canyon, and wanted something simpler like a Holy Grail. Though I'll say it again, this pedal is a reverb WET dream.

either get his for 170$. Or get 9 20$ pedals. But this pedal has the capability of all 9 of those 20$ pedals combined into one unit.

If this was available as a compact stereo, It'd be a contender. I'd rather the infinite held a pad instead of latching the last note.
Definitely one of the absolute best reverb units in the market, trust me I have tried A REAL lot.
Thanks for taking the time to really break down this pedal and go through all the features and controls. Well done.

Yep, you did it again. Fave demo of this pedal (together with the spring setting video). Thank you!
these arnt even close to all the settings, the oceans 11 has a secondary function mode, allowing you to adjust way more than shown in this video.
You’re killing it withal all these demos! Thank you!
Damn it! Now I really want one! Thanks again for all the in depth review and comparison videos. Surfy goodness plus. Nice pedal.
Awesome demo, Ryan. Sounds like one of the best pedals you can get, dollar-value-wise - or any-wise, for that matter.

I just purchased the Oceans 11 because of your demo and can't wait to try it with my Gremlin!! Keep up the great work 👍.
Great overview! This is the newest addition to my saxophone effects board and I’ve been amazed at how versatile this little pedal can be.
I had the Stryman blue sky V1 Reverb pedal for a while and really loved it but one of my students has this pedal and he loaned it to me and I ended up purchasing one from musician's friend.

Had to check this out since you suggested it, man it sounds sweet! That reverse had me droolin’
Really great demo, complex pedal made to look simple and fun. Subscribed!
Thanks for the cool demo I think this will be my first pedal purchase!

Now you've fully convinced me to get this pedal. Also, I dig that shirt. And I like the fret markers on that guitar
Woody Harrelson plays guitar too?! There’s nothing he can’t do! You short shifted the mod setting, it can do a ton
actually, im the comedic actor chris eliott, or am i the guy from the apple commercial, or am i fat thor? there are so many options!
60 Cycle Hum Chris Elliot for sure
Yes, Woody plays guitar. Check UA-cam for some Prairie Home Companion “Left and Dusty” skits
@Club Soda He also sounds nothing like Woody H which makes the comparison fall even flatter.

Cool! I was looking at getting an Eastwood 3P reissue.
The neck profile is a more modern D shape right?
Awesome video. I just got one havent had the chance play with it yet. Looks like it’s gonna be fun
Great budget pedal but the menu diving is crazy, thank god they made a more expansive version

Good job I normally don't like ehx pedals but this sounds pretty good. Whether or not I can afford it is a different matter.
Great pedal, you don't seem so professionnal but it's actually enjoyable to discover the pedal same time as you do, and God you're hilarious
Good video - I'm thinking about getting one of these and this helped a lot.
Between this and mxr which one would you say sounds more natural
You should've messed with the tone on the shimmer effect before using the middle button which made the reverb sound wild (still a cool sound) to get a more natural shimmer sound

This was my first guitar pedal!
Great choice!
I can't wait to play "Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want" with the shimmer
Can’t go wrong with The Smiths
I like my Topanga but it's not enough drippy for that surf rock tone. Is the Ocean's 11 can have the Topanga kinda westcoast blues/Reverend Horton Heat kinda reverb like the Topanga?
Im going to be getting a TC Electronic Drip in soon, when I do ill do a video shooting out a bunch of stuff, topanga included.
Need a reverb expert!! I heard a reverb once that sounded like you were going down a hole into hell. Very dark and ominous. What type/pedal am I looking for? Thanks!!
This is a great demonstration! 👍
WHY
Im thinking about buying this pedal or the canyon, I know the canyon has a reverb setting but I don't know if the sound is the same or the difference varies a lot
could you do a vid on how you record your videos? Which software etc. The whole process. Thank you. Keep up the good work. Best Adam
I love your shirt!
And the pedal as well, ofc!
+60 Cycle Hum do you think the Ocean's 11 can do similar sustained dreamy reverb like the Slo?
Probably similar. I imagine the slo is a different animal to this
No it does not
would the Auto Infinity mode be good for songs like U2's WIth or Without You? Or Nazareth's Love Hurts ?
not gonna do spring "go watch my other videos". Secret settings: "i don't kinow what these controls do"...... great review bruh :'D
What? The king of surf dorks wasn't given one of these by EHX? I think you probably should have asked. lol. That is a terrific reverb and a good demo of it! Thanks.

yeah... but, why not read the manual first?
With this and the Canyon, I've found that reading the manual doesn't help much. It's all trial and error with either pedal.
Manuals are for wimps!
I know people who read manuals, and they're all cowards!
Said no-one ever
The manual is confusing af 😂
This Pedal is crazy..
From watching this video I just found out about the secret settings by holding down mode.. I don't remember seeing that in the manual 🙄🥴
The manual isn't much help and I just end up spending hours dicking around turning knobs.. I never would have thought that a small Reverb pedal would be so complicated.. 🙄😫
Great review
In the tremolo mode you can turn the fx level down and play without reverb. Which is weird when you think about it.
You said Tremolo correctly last video! Come on!!!
I can never remember!
Great video! Did you notice any tone loss or digitalisation of the dry signal with the pedal engaged or in the bypass mode?
This is the kind of pedal that can really free up space on your pedal board. I already hear a suitable replacement for a Trem, Chorus, and Octaver. If you only use them in one or two parts, why not?
Oh man i was thinking about buying this when it came out but then i was like "naah" and bought a EQD Afterneath. But now i really want this aswell!
Can someone explain what the input labeled "Infinite" is for?
At first they might seem very different but I think this seems a lot like a digital mini version of EHX Epitom3 which often fights to be my favorite pedal.
Question: does the dry signal remain analog?

"Wonder what the green setting does (strums guitar)... I don't know, it's a mystery, we'll never solve it."
Pro Tip: Turn the knobs.

Sounds great! I can't seem to find info on whether this has an option for using it with a battery rather than plugging it in. Can you use a battery with this pedal?
Even if you could I always find better sonic performance using a power supply
Good sound!
Wow, there seems to be a tonne of versatility in this one little pedal.
good review :)
nice old navy shirt
im a huge fan of their tall sizes
Can some tell which is better? This pedal or the holy grail neo?
Which shimmer is better, on this one or the Canyon?
