I was in the stadium several years ago when there was an HT reunion. At half-time, they took the field. They started down the field playing the anticipatory lead -in for Dixie. The alumni went wild. Then at the change over moment, the indeed changed: to some other song. There was a chorus of boos from the stands: political correctness had won out. "Expletive, deleted." But this video brought back lots of happy memories of the school once known as VPI. Mike Bunn, class of 1969
I bet this was in the 50's- the Corps would go wild at football games in old Miles Stadium and War memorial. I played one quarter in this great band then they found out I was not very good. EOK
We played it in high school and college in Georgia in the early to mid 70s. Love that music!!!
Our Southern National Song.......Stand proud Dixy!
Dixie
The South wasn't a nation. In fact the South fought against nationalism.
@@DrVadGunthe Confederate States of America was its own nation
@@cane870 it's own country* not nation
VMI suffered the same fate in 1974. Thanks for uploading.
Beautiful ! Be still my heart.
They used to march down Clay Street when I lived there in my youth. Would come out and watch.

Dixie “intro” to Tech Triumph was common when I was active in the HT’s 91 to 95. Hell, I have it on my phone as a ring tone now! 😀
Miles stadium in background was razed in 61 or 62
lest we forget
its not a offensive song its about the south land even Lincoln liked it
The song is actually satirizing the South if anyone cared to pay attention to the words.
@@christopherweber9464 that was the original intention of the song and the original lyrics that were made for shows were much more antagonistic
Hell Yeah 👍
I'm surprised they banned it so long ago
❤
What year was this shot? The band looks too big here for this to have been shot in the 70's. Thanks Bob Morecook India 68
This had to have been shot between 1962 and 1965. The dorm in the background, Vawter Hall, was built in 1962 and Miles Stadium closed in 1965.
Need to resurrect it !
Deo Vindice the South will be Independent.
The South will rise again!
