Hi there, from Kentucky USA. This song takes me back to my early 20's out in the farmland area of my home. We used to have huge field parties that last a while weekend. CCR was always a favorite and was always played among the other picks of the weekend of music , camping and just partying. No one died no one went to jail. It was fun.
A very powerful song is: Fortunate Son While thousands of 18 year olds were being sent to fight a senseless war; the rich and politicians found ways to keep their sons from being drafted.
Years ago. My uncle was dying of cancer, I had helped care for him. He was poorly and in hospital. This song is my favourite song (Along with 'wish you were here' by Pink Floyd). I was walking through Waterloo station in London and a busker was singing this in the station, I was shocked because its the first time I heard this song sung in public. It was strange. That night I spent the entire night in hospital awake, as my uncle didn't have long. It was an awful night. I was with my father. The morning had come I was going to go home quickly to eat something and freshen up, then I go back to the hospital and let my father do the same. I just left the door of my home to return to the hospital, and that song came in my head so I sung it quietly to myself, then it went very bright and sunny, but there was some rain at the same time, I thought how odd, a few seconds later, literally, my father calls to say he has passed away. I froze. And to this day those lyrics 'when its over so they say, it will rain a sunny day' will forever be with me in that moment. Its one of those stories I always remember and don't believe myself, it was like a vivid dream. Isn't life odd sometimes. Lovely reaction guys. You both are very passionate about music and enjoy the time you have together, while you are still young! Peace.
“That song is really about the impending breakup of Creedence. The imagery is, you can have a bright, beautiful, sunny day, and it can be raining at the same time,” John reportedly told Rolling Stone journalist Michael Goldberg in a 1993 interview. “The band was breaking up. I was reacting, ‘Geez, this is all getting serious right at the time when we should be having a sunny day.’”
CCR has always been my summertime music. Once it’s warm enough to drive with the windows down CCR tapes were shoved in and played loud. And you start with Lookin Out My Backdoor. Long ago but I still remember every word.
Swamp Rock. They ruled the airwaves in the late 60s & 70s. They became synonymous with the Vietnam War with songs like Fortunate Son, Run through the Jungle etc. Some of my Favorites are: I Put a Spell on You, Bad Moon Rising, Down on the Corner, Sweet Hitch Hiker, Looking Out My Backdoor...
Need to pair this with "Who'll Stop the Rain". Also "Favorite Son", "Proud Mary", "Bad Moon Rising", "Don't Look Now", "Cotton Fields", and basically the whole album _Willie and the Poor Boys_
Ever need to get a party going, put on CCR! This boomer was a teenager when this group was big. Bad Moon Rising and Looking Out My Back Door are my favs. I was lucky enough to see John Fogerty a few years back here in Prince George, BC Canada. Still a great performer.
I was lucky enough to see John Fogerty in concert a few years ago and his voice is still pure and he still sounds and performs like a young man. It was one hit after another and was some of the most cheerful concerts I've been to.
This is a top 10 all time song for me. It's just freaking perfect. I can't put into words why. I've heard it literally countless times and it always evokes some emotion. Like, I can't just listen to it and feel nothing afterwards. So few songs can do that. It's up there with God Only Knows for me.
loved listening to them while I was in college in louisiana in the early 70's. With their "Swamp Rock" sound I thought they were a local band that made it big. It was years later that I found out that they were from california! I really love you guys, you make great comments.
Oh, I LOVED this song! My friends and I would drive down the road singing to this at the top of our lungs. I am sure it sounded like a fire-engine but we LOVED it!
John Fogerty, The Old Man is Down The Road is on the album Center Field. John Fogerty is the lead singer of CCR and did this album after they broke up. He got screwed over by the other members of the group, one of them was his brother. He didn't do anything until Center Field which is his best album in my opinion.
Love love this sing! May e my favorite! Long as I can See the Light...Midnight Special...Fortunate Son...Looking out My Back Door..all great...they do a great version of Heard it Through the Grapevine too.
CCR is one of the greats of 70s sound. This is one of my most fave tunes by them 💗. Check out 'Lookin out my backdoor' next. Y'all be stomping your boots errrr shoes 😁
You would love Green River. Run Through the Jungle (haunting) and Fortunate Son were Viet Nam war time songs that were embraced by anti war protesters as well as a lot of soldiers fighting in the war..many really didn't want to be there and wouldn't have been but for the draft. Also I Put a Spell On You really showcases his voice. They will never get old.
What I love most about this band is, they sound as fresh and new today as they did half a century ago when this stuff came out. No gimmicks, no fads, just the music.
I have a specific memory from being a little girl, laying on my mom's bed with my blanket, sucking my thumb, listening to this song on a green radio. Lol I have always loved these guys.
To me this song means that you can't have one thing in life without the opposite. Love/hate Hot/cold ("sun is cold and rain is hot) its part of life and its a balance
This is one of my all time favourite CCR songs - I downloaded it back in 2015 though I probably had the single before then, and I've been playing it ever since. As you say, guys, the melody is gorgeous and John Fogerty's voice is so distinctive and fab. CCR were huge - their songs were often on Top of the Pops in the UK. I see that this particular song was released in 1971 and yes, it is great for playing in the car! Other favourite CCR songs for me are Green River, Bad Moon Rising and Fortunate Son. Loved your comments guys, cheers.
Amazing reaction, brothers. Most of the songs, lyrics during that time were influenced by the vietnam war. As beautiful as this song is there is an indication of sadness.
this song; Who'll stop the rain and Long as I can see the light are my fave from them... I saw Rod Stewart video doing a cover on this and is great too😉
The song was about the self-destructive behavior of members of the band (specifically John's brother) who were basically turning a sunny day (their success) into rain.
I know you already reacted to Susie Q. but as you said their songs are short. Well you got the short version of Suzie. There are longer ones containing much longer instrumental parts which create such a swamp rock vibe. Two other tunes with a swampy feel which you need to hear are Run Through the Jungle and Keep on Chooglin’.
My favorite song by CCR is "I Put A Spell On You" is a longer song. Also Up Around The Bend. The lead singer is John Fogerty. After he left the group he recorded a cd Titled " Centerfield " it has some good stuff. One of the song I liked from his cd is " Rock N Roll Girl". 👏👍👍❤️
They were a virtual hit machine. the soundtrack of the '70s. The real breakup with this band occurred with their record company who pretty much stole all their royalties claiming full ownership of all their publishing. It was one of the nastiest artist vs record company breakups ever and in the end the suits won. John fogerty was a bitter man for years and years, refusing to perform his own songs. Check out "Fortunate Son" by them. And their other rain song... "Who'lll Stop the Rain", every bit as good as this one!!
This song is about the threat of nuclear war - bombs raining down, the cold war was still on. It goes hand in hand with Bob Dylan - A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall.
Guys, if you love John Fogerty's voice PLEASE listen to him singing 'I Heard It Through The Grapevine' the old Marvin Gaye hit. It's an absolute classic. Thanks!
Back in the day, bars would play Creedence to animate the crowd. Great drinking music. Good simple honest music. Sometimes the lyrics don't have to mean anything.

“This song is John Fogerty's take on the imminent departure of his brother Tom from the band, and the overall tension in the group at a time when they should have been enjoying their success. The line, "I want to know - have you ever seen the rain comin' down on a sunny day?" refers to Tom leaving while CCR was at its commercial zenith. The flip side of this single, "Hey Tonight," is John reassuring the band that all would go well despite the adversity”

I'm 76 and grew up with CCR Still my favorite Band of all Time. I still take drives in my car and listen to CCR!
Its 2024 and I am listening to this again. Never get sick of listening to CCR. Great sound.
John Fogerty the living legend I love love his voice.
Check out "Bad Moon Rising". You won't be sorry.
Good vibes
Patrick is so right, today's music is people on computers, not even a band.
“Long As I can See the Light” is, in my opinion, their best song. The soul and passion is stellar.
Best!
I totally agree. The slow, blues rhythm stirs a deep nostalgic chord in me and, probably, many others, like us. Keep well.
Chris cornell covered it it's pretty cool
Brothers please cover this song 🎵

Rain is a commonly used metaphor for bad times....
Thank You Love CCR!!!
CCR has more hits in only 4 years then anyone.
beatles...
@@nbeutler1134 And Doors.
The Doors is a reasonable comparison, the Beatles are not as they had developed a global following from their early period.
Simon and Garfunkel are pretty close as well

Green River is their best, short tune. I could listen to it everyday and not get tired of it ✔

Bob Seger...night moves. Great storyteller/songwriter
Yes! Night Moves is mandatory!
CCR probably has the highest ratio of great songs to total songs than any other major band. Their albums often had deep cuts that were longer.
Yep👍

One of their best song in my opinion is Pagan Baby from the album Pendulum
Nice reaction, this song is so America, in so many movies and tv shows over the years. It is like baseball, hot dogs and CCR.

CCR never recorded a bad song.....check out Looking Out My Door...really fun song and one of my favorites of theirs.
There are so many CCR songs to hear, but a fast paced, traditional rock ‘n roll song is “Travelin’ Band”. Must hear.
Someday never comes, is there best song, that never got the recognition it deserved
That organ, transports me back to 1970 and being a 10 year old kid.

Rain can be bad and it can be good.
You have to see from multifaceted perspectives to really appreciate these songs of long ago because they wrote them to be this way with purpose.
The song is your song because it means what you hear from it.
It took real talent to be able to write songs with words that could be interpreted in multiple ways and still be worthy of time.
Rain can be a symbol of something else or it could just be rain.
:)
Maybe you had a day planned outside and it was sunny and perfect and then it turned on you. It rained.
Maybe you went to have fun with friends and someone punched you in the face during your fun time.
Maybe you were gardening and wanted rain for your new plants.
Have you seen what it is to get rain?
Define "rain".
Interpretation is different for each individual.
Good and bad is known differently by each and every one individual and each make their own definition for what it means and feels like.
I have no right to tell you what to think or feel. I can only help show you and it is up to you to decide for yourself what is good and proper for you.
