Cuba: Descendants from slavery tell their story | SLICE

  • Andrea and her husband are descendants of the slaves who arrived in Cuba in the 18th Century. They are today the presidents of the Tumba of Santiago, a living culture brought to Cuba by slaves. To perpetuate tradition, they take the children in hand and teach them how to play and sing. They struggle to teach younger people so that the Tumba lives on.

Thank you for sharing this lovely footage. So often the stories of Black people are not told from our own perspective. The world needs to know that our lives are rich and significant and that what is portrayed of us in mainstream media and society isn't always accurate. We are beautiful, dignified, purposeful and constructive.

Please don't spread misinformation, black people in the Caribbean are descendants slaves brought over from Africa, they are not the Native tribes original to this land.
