Nice gun, terrible trigger design, with a MIM pin block, and skeletonized polymer safety plunger. Smith should have copied the 1911, and made a real metal plunger that directly interrupts the firing pin. The extra parts, made out of crappy materials, are why the trigger sucks. Sure, you can radius and polish the disconnector, and carefully knock the abrupt edge off the plunger, but there isn't a lot of material to work with, so proceed with caution. I did it, and I got an honest 5lb trigger now. As soon as someone makes a trigger kit for this gun, I will buy it.

I've never seen or owned any 1911's that safety is off in the up position, and on, in the down position. Down is fire, up is safe on every 1911 I've ever used or seen. As a matter of fact, many people used to put extended safeties on their 1911's, and use them like a gas pedal, to control recoil better.
Yep, I got confused and made a mistake. I sold my last 1911 a couple years ago and haven’t shot one since so my memory was obviously hazy. Thanks for the correction

A downward sweep to transition from safe to fire is pretty much a universal standard on most semi-auto pistols. Definitely the case with every 1911 I’ve ever seen. The comment about this gun’s safety being opposite of a 1911 is just wrong.
Ive watched at least 20 videos reviewing this CSX, and this is the first video Ive heard anyone mention the ability to train with dry firing! I never even thought about that being such a good feature on this pistol. Also.this is the first video someone actually admitted this is their Every Day Carry. Many many many reviews but noone saying it is their everyday carry. Thank you sir for tipping my scales to opt to buy this CSX and not listen to all the negative comments about it! @7:20 I haven't seen any 1911's with a safety that flip up to disengage. The only gun I have used like that is a Walther P22.

Flipped up, is safety engaged, to carry cocked, and locked.

WTF! I have been carrying, shooting, and competing with 1911's for more than 40 years and using the 1911 as my police duty gun for 35 years. The safety on the CSX has the same off and on safe motion as a 1911, which is what interests me in one. I reflexively off safe a 1911 on the draw stroke. I have purchased a CSX and am waiting for it to get to my FFL dealer for a personal evaluation for EDC. I don't understand what you are trying to say about the CSX safety, but it comes across in the video as if you don't understand 1911's at all.
I made a mistake and owned it, wasn't the first time and won't be the last. That being said, I still wouldn't carry the CSX unless I could replace the ambi safety with a right hand only. And the false reset is an issue as well. Huge respect for your experience and service sir, thanks.
I love my csx, she is beautiful the way she is, I have no problem with her, just have to train with her more, like I said I love mine, she is sweet
A hammer fired aluminum frame 9mm makes sense, I'm left handed but can shoot with either hand, so ambi controls makes sense to me. A 10mm version by s&w would be a natural progression, just like a 10mm version of a Taurus TH40 makes sense.
I think they'll expand this to a whole CSX lineup but time will tell. Thanks for watching

That void is the greatest factor in micro 9 controllability imho, and for companies to fix it would not change the concealibilty one bit. Good to hear from you my friend, yeah it's a really neat little platform.
I must have gotten the good one. Mine has a 4.5 pound trigger, and if it has a false reset, I can't tell it. The first couple of times I loaded the magazines I had to really slap them home, but after a few cycles, they go in now with just a normal push. I haven't shot it a lot (150 rounds or so RN/HP), but I have dry fired it a lot. Maybe that helped. The stippling was a bit rough on my first time, but a few swipes with an emery board took care of it. As far as accuracy, I don't shoot it any worse than I do any other small 9mm semi. I don't carry it, mostly because I have a Shield with a green laser as my edc, but I do have an IWB Kydex holster for it just in case.
So interesting to me, the variance in triggers. Had the same thing just happen with the Sig FCU, mine is around a 4 lb. trigger while I've seen reviews are saying theirs are 5.5 to over 6 lb. That's a lot of difference. I have heard that over 200 trigger pulls and the false reset can disappear, mine still hasn't with far more than 200 pulls (along with dry fire).
I had the same issue but mine was the magazine spring was installed incorrectly from the factory. Take the magazine apart and check that the end of spring is through the hole in the follower not
under it. It should never be tight going into gun even from new. As soon as I fixed it was easy to insert right away.

By the way you can fix the trigger rest issue by polishing down a part. There is a video on UA-cam about it. Easy fast fix from what I hear.
I just this month went to buy a pocket / backup/deep carry, the lgs I went to had this and a Sig P938 Legion, I went back and forth trying to decide which one to get, I liked the grip better on the CSX but the sights on the Sig did it for me, plus the three mags and the Legion perks. I went with the Sig P938.
I picked up the Legion 938 also..How do I take advantage of the Legion perks? I heard you can get a free coin and bag? Super nice pistol.mine is snappy,but I've only run about 50 rnds through it..not one malfunction and the sights are the absolute best I have ever seen.

I've shot this gun twice at the range and while I don't have any issues with the trigger and I love almost everything about it, I noticed on my second and most recent trial that I couldn't load it past the 9th round on the 12-round mag, and that was *with* an UpLula loader (I have to use those since even with regular hand strength exercises, I currently don't have the strength or finesse to load rounds by hand). I don't know if that was me or the mag itself, although I do think I've heard some other reviewers say that they also had similar issues. I love the little guy, but that mag loading issue is not a good sign. The range that I visited to try it has a free ladies' class once a month, so I'm half-tempted to try it again and see if I run into the same issue (although to be frank, I do have a list of other guns I want to try) or at least ask the staff if they have heard anything about that with this particular pistol. Thanks for reviewing this one.
Also, since I'm on the subject of S&W, have you ever shot or otherwise evaluated the M&P M2.0 line of pistols? I've heard they're great and have been trying to find the subcompact 12+1 model to at least get a closer look, but I've come across differing opinions on their ease of use, etc. If you are familiar with them, what is your opinion? Do you think that would be a good all-purpose pistol worth trying?
I'm diggin' that CSX .... might have to consider getting one ...
Like I said it's really surprised me. The grip, the stippling, the extra weight and shootabililty along with the cool factor have all grown on me. Loving carrying it and shooting it, which can't be said for most micro 9's (at least the shooting part).
I'm counting on the CSX 2.0 to fix the issues.

I applogize if I missunderstood you but what you said about the safety on a 1911 doesn't make any sense... It's the same as on your CSX. Up is safe, and down is not safe, ready to fire, right?

I went deep into the internals of my CSX and polished all parts that rub together to smooth it out without shooting hundreds of rounds.
After careful inspection, I determined the so called "false reset" although there, was a result of what I will call the safety bar coming off the firing pin stop plunger (similar to the one found in a Glock). The bar snaps off the plunger and that manifests itself as a reset before the actual reset which happens when the trigger bar goes forward of the sear as the trigger is released.
I blocked the firing pin stop plunger in the depressed position which is the operational position it takes when the trigger is pulled rearward. This took the plunger completely out of the operational picture, put the slide back on and tested for the false reset. It was completely gone.
The spring under the plunger is quite robust which I think leads to the false reset feel as the safety bar that depressed the plunger in the first place slides off of it during normal reset.
Polishing components did help, but minor altering of the plunger did the most good. The false reset is mostly gone and the firing pin safety feature still does its job by not letting the firing pin go forward.
There are 3 safeties on this gun. The thumb lever on the side, the doohicky on the trigger and the firing pin stop that prevents the firing pin from completing its full travel unless the trigger is pulled. I carry mine with one in the chamber and the hammer back and the thumb safety in the down position. Two of the safeties are still engaged.

Hey my edc is a sig p229 40 s&w with red dot. I want to get a sub compact 9mm to throw into my edc rotation. To have a 9mm and a small pistol Mainly to just throw on quick with shorts on to concell. I saw this at my gun store and fell in love with it. I also amd debating between the csx and the kimber Mico 9mm nightfall version and the sig p938. The kimber and csx are the two front runners. I heard you say you sent your kimber back for the second time. What was issue with kinber ? Was this a micro 9 you are having issues with and which do you prefer for a sub edc 9mm csx or mico 9???
I purchased 2 glock 23 gen 3. I loved the 9mm I've carried the 19 and 17 I just never truly felt safe! With the 9mm I just felt underpowered and worried and uncomfortable carrying for duty and self defense. I think it's a great caliber. I'm sticking with the .40 glock 23 gen 3. I feel safer and shoot the .40 well. It makes me more confident and secure and feel safer...What's your thoughts?
I carry 9 currently, but wouldn't feel unsafe carrying either. I really think it comes down to personal preference...and what self defense ammo you choose to carry.

Great video ! Question I am between the 365x and the CSX which one has the less recoil ? And shoots better in your opinion ?
Thanks! The CSX hands down has less felt recoil and muzzle flip. It's got a girthier grip as well so it's easier to feel like you've got a full grip vs. the much thinner 365 grip. I have small to medium hands and even for me it's very noticeable. The CSX is a couple ounces heavier as well which translates to less felt recoil. As to which I shoot better, I still shoot the 365 better because the false reset on the CSX trigger is still messing me up. That and inadvertantly tripping the ambi safety on the CSX would still lead me (personally, not saying for everyone) to choose the 365 for carry. If I could get a right hand only safety option and an improved CSX trigger I'd go for the CSX in a heartbeat. For less felt recoil however, you may want to check out the P365XL Spectre Comp, I am hoping to get my hands on one to test in the next couple months. @@overnightguitarist5063 It was the trigger and the ambi safety yes. I have been carrying a Shadow Systems MR920 now for about 10 months and am much happier with it.
I will saw the only thing i don't love about my sig 365xl is the grip frame being just a bit too thin. They make those hideous houge rubber frame gels. But it makes it way too big. I wish someone would make an "affordable" looking at you icarus precision(yeah yeah premium and all). But module with a wider fatter and wider grip.plenty of people aren coming out with their own modules but no one is playing with the dimensions. As for the csx, i love it. But I don't carry single only gunsnunless just goofin on the range. I really wish they had made this a double single and I would have bought it day 1.
I get what you're saying but the thinness of the grip is why it is aimed at concealed carry. If you want a thicker grip you can get a subcompact double stack. But yes, we NEED more DA/SA carry guns. Appreciate you watching👍🏽

(IMO) For Alaska the S&W CSX maybe too small as you wear more clothes carrying a larger gun is easy. I have seen women wear 1911s as a daily carry so... I had carried a Glock 42 (.380 ACP) & Glock 43 (9mm) in Anchorage, AK for in city use but ended up with a Glock 43X cause it was bigger & did not slide around in my hand(s).
Anyway... The S&W CSX main issue is a harder to pull trigger on A SINGLE ACTION GUN.
The CSX also has a "false reset". See the _Yankee Marshall_ review for a more critical review. of this gun.
Anyway, test this one as the CSX *may become a flop.*

I can't figure what the H you are trying to with the thumb safety? If it gives you the much grief just leave it off. You have a trigger safety working for you, too, and the gun can't fire until you pull the trigger. Still safer than a striker fired pistol.

Yes, training yourself to not pretend you know something about a legendary gun you obviously don't know anything about.
How can you have so many guns and still know nothing about guns?Take the slide off and look at what is happening when you pull the trigger.The firing pin block in the slide is actuated by a lever that pops up when you pull the trigger.Smooth out that rub block with some 600 paper so the lever slides over it smoothly without catching the edges, and put a dab of teflon grease on it and you will have a 5 lb trigger with only one click to reset.Sorry to come off rude,but i hate to see others pass on such a great gun for such a minor issue.I wouldnt be surprised if S&W has already redesigned the firing pin block in current production after input from the first batch.
