Yeah, checking out Cory Wong is gonna be a whole journey!
He’s a hell of a rhythm guitar player, and play, records and tours with the best crew ever.
This collab from 2020 or so was done in the midst of COVID, lockdowns, etc.
Cory and the the Loops had never met then, but decided to do an album together.
‘Turbo’ is the result, and it’s complete nuts.
Bath bands recorded and filmed on two different continents: the Loops in Sweden, Cory and his horns in the US.
They made the stage look alike, with the same props, lighting angles etc.
Then Aron, the drummer, edited all the visual footage together.
Cory’s horns are partially made up of members of the famous Hornheads, a session band who played, recorded and toured with many greats, including Prince (who coined the name ‘Hornheadz).
As you’ve said, every musician there is stellar in his or her own right.
Worth checking all of them out, too.
When watching this vid again, catch that moment during the instrumental ‘Disney’ middle section, when Jonah puts on his Stevie glasses 😎
Also when the horn section switches instruments…
Jonah’s vocals, on this track, are very MJ-like, and simply out of this world, I find.
So is Henrik’s cool bass riff and Aron’s monster drumming.
I’m glad you checked out this one ☺️
Next try “Follow The Light” and “Turbo” from the same collab album👍🙏✌️

This is the only MJ cover I like even more than the original. Freakin' love this shuffle groove, the arrangement, bass, horn interlude, everything! Thanks for the reaction.

fiddlestix3025 got everything right. Cory and the Hornheads (not their actual group name) recorded at Prince's Paisley Park Studios in my home state……Minnesota (Minneapolis). I recorded their often - studio musician/keys - AGES ago, never met Prince, but what a beautiful studio he built from the proceeds of the movie Purple Rain. I'd heard it is now a museum honoring the memory of Prince. Not sure if it's still a functioning recording studio anymore, but one of the recording stages was large enough for an entire orchestra designed to record his film scores. Dirty Loops is unparalleled in my eyes……brilliant doesn't cover the depth of their talents. Obviously Cory and the Horns are on that level as well.

Fun facts: The Cory Wong band horn section is actually the “Horn Heads” who backed up Prince.
Also, for every video and the entirety of the recording section, the Cory Wong band is in Minnesota, while Dirty Loops recorded in Stockholm. Also, that is, to my knowledge, the only use of a double-belled euphonium in a pop song. Cory Wong was formerly with a group called Vulfpeck before getting his own band together.

How ´bout the 12/8 shuffle beat intead of the original 4/4...ingenious! I read somewhere that Dirty Loops recorded their video in Stockholm and Cory and his fabulous (Prince) horns in Minneapolis! Love this so much! 💙💛 💜

The funk hits all the right places here. So glad you were able to enjoy this! Yes, Dirty Loops often has such fun outro credits ...
That killer brass section; most of them were with Prince. They're with Cory in his productions.

Read the credits. Thriller was written, composed and arranged by Rod Temperton except for the horns that were arranged by Jerry Hey. This almos religious hype around MJ is insane and luckily, people are coming forward and telling the true stories. He could not play a single instrument, could of course not read notes, did not how to compose or arrange anything. If you listen to "Off the wall" were Rod Temperton also composed "Rock with you" for instance, he was still an okey guy. But Nothing special at all. Mediocre in all ways and that is the harsh truth. And nobody can prove me otherwise until I see or hear it. I am always asking people on the internet to send me something, that is live and real and/or when he is playing an instrument. He was just a man that did not have the talent or the abilities to be in the music industry. And it went wrong. He just got billions of money and nothing else. Just a charade. Poor man who went totally nuts and did not have a clue what he was doing.
