    At 75, with Parkinson’s & cancer, Dirty Loops gets my hide movin!! You are a great host & analyst, breaking down the dynamics of a piece!! I played a baritone Bb horn for years& love seeing & hearing the contribution of the double bell ! Keep goin’!!!

    The extra bell on the euphonium is called a Marcellophone. Although it's adapted for a euphonium rather than an F attachment trombone in this case, it fits into the tuning slide for the compensating valve on the euphonium and allows for cool hormony effects naturally on the euphonium. It was originally adapted by a man named John Marcellus who was a trombone teacher at Virginia Commonwealth that actually taught my trombone professor while he was working on his masters. Just wanted to give some info on that device since you asked about it.

      It is a "Double Bell Euphonium", which were manufactured from the 1880s to about 1960.
      Both bells can't make sound at the same time:

    Do you guys know that Dirty Loops filmed in Sweden, and the Cory side filmed in Minnesota - they got identical sets and cameras and stitched the video together. Cory talked about it on his podcast

    I've always noticed Henrik's smile and Jonah turning to look at Aron when the second verse starts, but it never dawned on me that maybe something was supposed to happen that didn't (like a door slam) until you said that. Very observant of you.

    Welcome to the rebirth of Quincy Jones and his horn sections. The blessing we received was from David Foster relinguishing ownership and control of Dirty Lookps contract. He sat on them for a full year and they disbanded. A year later and it was announced that Quincy took over their contract so what you see is Jona Nilson's theory and arrangements being enhanced by the master horn arranger of Quincy Jones. We are truly blessed. And I can say personally, that these guys are the real deal. Actual real musicians who are great people. I met them with my two daughtera November 7, 2014 at the Kessler in Dallas, TX. My daughter, Jada, at the time was 7 years old and was terrified of them, but they did their best to have a conversation with her. The picturee is on my Facebook page. We were the first to meet them in Dallas because she was the youngest concert-goer that evening and they pushed us to the front. Phenominal young men and I am so glad that my oldest daughter turned me on to them. She decided to slip out and get something to eat and me and my youngets got to meet them. It was a long disappointing conversation for her, but I didnt have to tell her to stay put from then on.

      I have just recently discovered this from another stratosphere band with unparalleled musicianship. Thank the stars they are no longer under David Foster. He had his day with wonderful artists in the 70's, 80's and 90's. I won't say his time has passed, but NO WAY can he handle awesomeness like Dirty Loops! Their sound is universe(s) away from a Foster inspired anything. You definitely hear Quincy's influence but from what I understand, these geniuses can just about do everything themselves.

    • @gbulmer
      @gbulmer 19 днів тому

      I do *_not_* believe Quincy Jones had anything to do with the horn arrangements. Three of the horn section were Prince's studio and touring 'Hornheads', where Michael B Nelson (on trombone in this song) was the horns' arranger for Prince. The credits for horn arrangement on this are Michael B Nelson, Dirty Loops and Cory Wong. I do not believe they'd fail to give Quincy Jones due credit if he was involved. Quincy Jones is their manager, not producer. In interview they say they complete the song and video, then hand the finished result over to the Quincy Jones management company.
      I'm slightly jealous you got to meet them. I hope Jada has happy memories of it. They seem decent, grounded people.
      Best Wishes. ☮

    I´m a Swede and feel this silly patriotic pride for the Dirty Loops. But to be honest, I come to back to their Thriller version for the horn section just as much. When has anybody heard something similar since the 1960s? Am I exaggerating?
    Veeery good reaction btw, you surely know your shit!

    I am not sure how I got on your video, but I am glad I did. I have 2 grammy-award winning friends and one is Quentin E. Baxter out of Charleston, SC. You need to check him out. As I said earlier in the comments this makes so much sense now. Check out the Quincy Jones documentary and realize that the 500M man heard them once and he made an offer. These guys disbanded for two years under Foster. I love David Foster. Without him, there would be no Earth, Wind, and Fire! But they are no Michael Buble. Basically, I love that other musicians can translate the conversations. We are blessed that we can do this. Meeting this was life-changing and then they are the nicest guys! I love your face. Only a drummer can make those faces.

    I want something so bad on the door slam, glad someone else felt it was missing. But on an interesting note, this was not recorded live. In fact, Dirty Loops recorded their videos for the album in Sweden, and Cory and his players recreated the set up in Minnesota. They have never met in person.
