I honestly expected the mech to be the final boss, and I completely missed both the stinger AND the English countdown. After playing it, it makes so much more sense, but beforehand it was completely spoiler-free

Splatoon really does seem like an IP for Nintendo to let out all their crazy, wacky artistic freedom, and it culminates into something that looks SO COOL.
I just wanna say, thank you so much for bringing back both of the Squid Sisters and letting us see more Callie. I hope Off the Hook's whereabouts aren't as similar as the Squisters' in the second game. I'd love to see more interaction between the two idol groups.
The aesthetic that Splatoon's world has is exactly what drew me into loving the game so much. Its like I'm in a weird dream or psychedelic trip I never want to wake up from. The crazy music, weird environments, the gibberish language the characters speak, the reality bending logic of how Inklings/Octolings can swim in ink puddles like they are infinitely deep pools, the eerie lore behind the history between Inklings and Octolings and the our extinction preceding their evolution, the many questions that arise with each new expansion to the world that makes you wonder "What else is out there? What else is going on in the world of Splatoon that we don't know of?" I love this game.
The amount of creativity with this game is why I fell in love with Splatoon in the first place. That single player story is incredible. Can’t wait to play it!
the second half of the trailer feels like an adult swim sting almost. The drum and bass music with the awesome logo reveal. I’ve never even played Splatoon but that was probably one of the better trailers I’ve ever seen. Unbelievably hype.
The implications of this game's story mode lore-wise shakes me to my core. Also some details I noticed - Little buddy is used to eat the weird "mammal slime". 1:13 - Octavio's mech is made from what looks to be pieces of the NILS statue or maybe even Ark Polaris. 1:36 - The secret scrolls shown in the trailer have pictures of Judd and even Tartar for a split second. 1:09 As well as a new image that looks to be from that "inkling bible" from the second game's scrolls. 1:11 -Glooga dualies are back. Pog. Love that weapon.
I love that we get to see mammalians through the perspective of an invertebrate species. Furry warm-blooded things that give live birth and get all sweaty WOULD come off as really gross to a bunch of mollusks. And the idea of turning mammalification into a PLAGUE is a really cool, disturbing idea. Man, I love Splatoon lore. Now the question is if we'll get more specific mammals than just things getting hairy. I want a chiropteran Inking based off of the vampire squid.
Nintendo wasn’t subtle here. The pet Smallfry, the sound at the end, the obsession with eggs in Splatoon 2, the connection with bears (mammalian!), it all adds up. Completely new view on Grizzco.
1. Grizzlies are northern animals. 2. They’re also known as brown bears due to their fur colour (a fur colour which the octarians have). 3. Smallfry is assumed to be story-relevant (as we all know). 4. At the end of the trailer, we can hear the laugh sound from Grizzco. Mr. Grizz, is that you..?

I love how they didn’t put the whole laugh in the trailer, it sounds kinda cut off and distorted. Not enough to spoil it before the game came out, but just enough to catch onto it after playing through the campaign
I am now 100% sure Mr Grizz is the new villain. You can’t just put “return or the mamillions” in the trailer if he is not the new bad guy. Maybe he’s using all those golden eggs to evolve the whole world into mammals.
Plus, if The Professor who made TarTar made Mr. Grizz as well to convince the other creation of the prof, then to make mammal cephalopod hybrids then yes (just a theory/thought)
I find it interesting that for a bright, colorful and fun franchise, when one looks at the backstory of the whole Splatoon world, it's surprisingly pretty dark. I mean, we find out that humans went extinct millenia ago and so did most mammals, and Inklings/Octolings somehow evolved and became the dominant species. Gotta hand it to the dev team, they crafted a series with both a solid single player campaign and a dangerously addictive multi-player aspect that is creative and tons of fun. Not to mention a story that underneath all the bright, Nickelodeon-esque colors, is more than meets the eye. Can't wait for this game.

If you pause at 1:33 you can see agent 3 carrying a sloshing machine. The only other time that we’ve seen a sloshing machine in a story mode is in octo expansion, and we all know how good that was. The architecture that is there also has an octo expansion feel, so I think that Nintendo might have learned from octo expansion what people really like. I can’t believe the Splatoon series is onto its third instalment already and it still manages to “Stay Fresh” and surprise us. I was 14 years old when I played the first game and now I’m 21!! So seeing agent 3 return is so nostalgic and a reminder of growing up alongside these games. I can’t wait to play it!!

I completely forgot about Mr. Grizz. Man, it's been a long time since I played Splatoon 2. Anyways, seems like Mr. Grizz might be the main villain in story mode along with DJ Octavio. As someone else mentioned in the comments, he might've been using the Salmon eggs for something. Possibly it might relate to the whole thing of turning into Mammals? Or maybe just for food because well, he's a bear (maybe).
Something I loved seeing the Squid Sisters back is that their outfits are very similar to their concept art. I love seeing how Splatoon is getting back to its roots.
The inklings also look like their original concept art/terrifying-looking alpha build versions with the squid heads and humanoid bodies at one point... awesome!
The song from the story mode trailer sounds like breakcore and i absolutely love breakcore, it is one of my favorite music genres, and hearing it on the soundtrack of one of my favorite game franchises makes it even better

I love the idea that all of the oceanic species, like the inklings and salmonids, put aside their differences to unite against a common threat. It's a super cool idea, and I'm excited to see where they're going to take the new horde mode (if there is one, please let there be one).
Potentially the Octarians too, or whichever weren’t caught by whoever’s doing this, you can see that it’s actually Octavio piloting the mech at the end, although who’s side he’s on is unknown

They finally made the hero gear look comfy and fresh, the music is a BOP, the stages look amazing, the story looks really cool, all the Inklings look so fresh! Getting this game AS SOON as it comes out!
Hearing the grizzco jingle in the last clip certainly has a lot of implications for what exactly grizz was really up to. That and octavio being shown in this trailer suggests he's not the final boss(?) (Hopefully not again) Honestly hearing that in the end really changes my perspective on what was really going down in salmon run.. (Edit for thoughts on this now that salmon run IS confirmed to be returning, i still think grizz will play a part in the story, or at the very least something to do with grizzco as a whole. Until then we'll just have to see of course.)

Callie and Marie’s outfits are very similar to the concept art for them from Splatoon 1. They were first supposed to be shrine maidens but it was changed to pop stars.
I literally grew up with this franchise. Some of my first memories are of playing splatoon 1 with my dad. Its hard to believe that it’s already been seven years, and here we are with the third game. Wow.

I freaking LOVE the soundtrack they used in the second half of the video, I think it alternates between 8/4 and 7/4 time each measure which is really interesting and unique, along with the glitchy-hyper pop sounds
a few things I noticed: 1. there are 2 hero outfits that "agent 5" wears. one that looks similar to 3 and 4's with a bucket as the ink tank, as well as a one with wraps around their hands and feet with a soda bottle as the ink tank. 2. agent 3 is back however 4 has yet to show up. based on other interactions with 3, and that they were a protagonist, I'm assuming 3 isn't going to open their mouth very often 3. listen to the sound that plays a the end of the very last clip, it should sound familiar 1:57
Although, since they're no longer in player control, I wouldn't be surprised if they give 3 a voice anyways. Borderlands does that with their Vault Hunters, and I think Battlefield has done it once or twice (Then CoD does it a lot too, I guess).
Around the 1:59 mark, it does sound like one of the Grizzco music samples reversed in some kind very briefly before “Return of the Mammalians”. So Grizzco may definitely have something to do with this, maybe with Octavio too? Maybe a true antagonist collaboration at last…

I think the villain (probably Grizz) is gonna try to launch that rocket full of the fuzzy ink into the sky and back down to cover every inkling/octarians/other sea creatures in it to become mammalian.
@@froggy2406 this HAS to have something to do with Kamabo Co. tartar wanted to end all life on the planet to restart civilization and seeing as that didn’t work, is Kamabo working with Grizzco to turn everything mammalian? To start some new kind of “human”? Also, Octavio doesn’t have the fur that the other Octarians have. And that CAN’T be footage of the final boss battle (why would they show that in only the second trailer?)… I think he might be reaching out for help regarding what’s happening to his people. Also also, seeing that rough “landing”, it looks like he’s fleeing something.
This is the one game I can never be disappointed in, It's so unique and well designed. Can't wait to play through another journey and learn more lore. I just wish they gave more love into the competitive scene

Neo Agent 3 (what I’m calling her until I see an official name) threw a small fry at the fuzzy ball thing and the small fry absorbed it, so yeah, Grizzco definitely is part of the plot.
I know people are upset about the supposed return of DJ Octavio as the villain, but honestly, I don't think that's gonna happen. They show him in the thumbnail and a few frames of the trailer. If he were the villain, then Nintendo would've spoiled the whole game, which I doubt they'd do. I also think Mr. Grizz has something to do with the Octarians having fur, along with the furry ink. I mean, he's meant to be related to bears in some way. Plus, you can hear something similar to a part from a Grizzco song at the end. It's probably one of those things where they subtly hint at who the villain is, but don't outright tell us who it is.
For all we know, he could actually help us. Aka "I can and will betray you at any moment, but those mammal scoundrels stink, we are on one side for now"

In splatoon 2 hero mode trailer Callie’s laugh played in the end and she was the final boss. Splatoon is the Nintendo franchise that has the most “Sega” energy. Vaguely revolutionary but in a totally apolitical and non ideological way. What government do they have? “Who cares, look at my crazy hair and cool shoes!” It’s a very 90s take on a counter-culture, and I kind of love it.
While it may not be the best it is still by far my fav if it had a bangin campaign… then it will easily be the most ambitious franchise Nintendo has ever made growing radically within the fewest installments and i will die on the hill that it is already that. Nothing looks sounds or plays like splatoon and I don’t think that unlike their franchises Mario,Zelda etc it is the one that will be the hardest to emulate
been playing splatoon since the global testfire on the wii u back in 2014. i could cry happy tears for how far we've come. the splatoon franchise is one of the greatest things nintendo has ever produced. it is so dear to my heart. i can't wait to buy the art book, amiibos and merchandise. i'm ready. i hope they never give up on splatoon!

Nintendo released a Splatoon 3 song by Damp Socks recently. The song is a collab between them and Off the Hook, meaning we may be hearing Pearl and Marina during regular battles now!
I think they're furry because they adapted to their environment. If you look closely, the single player areas are mainly made up of snow meaning they'd need warmth to be protected from the cold.
I think it’s Agent 4 as they are yellow canonical and Agent 3 is Green. However Captain Cuddle fish is in this, so Agent 3 and 8 can’t be far. I wonder if Pearl and Marina are in this too?
@@Superstarzs2000 Agent 3 has the long tentacles, as seen in Octo Expansion, whereas 4 is often depicted with the shorter tentacles. They're also wearing Cap'n Cuttlefish's hat and cape... thing. Agent 4 doesn't have as close a connection with the captain or the Squid Sisters as 3 does, so I think it's more likely 3 sitting there rather than 4. ^-^

What I never realized, even in the second game, was I thought that was simply a guitar scratch. I had no idea that was supposed to be laughter.
I love how they didn’t put the whole laugh in the trailer, it sounds kinda cut off and distorted. Not enough to spoil it before the game came out, but just enough to catch onto it after playing through the campaign
I am now 100% sure Mr Grizz is the new villain. You can’t just put “return or the mamillions” in the trailer if he is not the new bad guy. Maybe he’s using all those golden eggs to evolve the whole world into mammals.
Plus, if The Professor who made TarTar made Mr. Grizz as well to convince the other creation of the prof, then to make mammal cephalopod hybrids then yes (just a theory/thought)

I find it interesting that for a bright, colorful and fun franchise, when one looks at the backstory of the whole Splatoon world, it's surprisingly pretty dark. I mean, we find out that humans went extinct millenia ago and so did most mammals, and Inklings/Octolings somehow evolved and became the dominant species. Gotta hand it to the dev team, they crafted a series with both a solid single player campaign and a dangerously addictive multi-player aspect that is creative and tons of fun. Not to mention a story that underneath all the bright, Nickelodeon-esque colors, is more than meets the eye. Can't wait for this game.

If you pause at 1:33 you can see agent 3 carrying a sloshing machine. The only other time that we’ve seen a sloshing machine in a story mode is in octo expansion, and we all know how good that was. The architecture that is there also has an octo expansion feel, so I think that Nintendo might have learned from octo expansion what people really like. What I’m saying is this story mode might be good.

Hearing the grizzco jingle in the last clip certainly has a lot of implications for what exactly grizz was really up to. That and octavio being shown in this trailer suggests he's not the final boss(?) (Hopefully not again) Honestly hearing that in the end really changes my perspective on what was really going down in salmon run..
(Edit for thoughts on this now that salmon run IS confirmed to be returning, i still think grizz will play a part in the story, or at the very least something to do with grizzco as a whole. Until then we'll just have to see of course.)

I freaking LOVE the soundtrack they used in the second half of the video, I think it alternates between 8/4 and 7/4 time each measure which is really interesting and unique, along with the glitchy-hyper pop sounds

a few things I noticed:
1. there are 2 hero outfits that "agent 5" wears. one that looks similar to 3 and 4's with a bucket as the ink tank, as well as a one with wraps around their hands and feet with a soda bottle as the ink tank.
2. agent 3 is back however 4 has yet to show up. based on other interactions with 3, and that they were a protagonist, I'm assuming 3 isn't going to open their mouth very often

I know people are upset about the supposed return of DJ Octavio as the villain, but honestly, I don't think that's gonna happen. They show him in the thumbnail and a few frames of the trailer. If he were the villain, then Nintendo would've spoiled the whole game, which I doubt they'd do.
I also think Mr. Grizz has something to do with the Octarians having fur, along with the furry ink. I mean, he's meant to be related to bears in some way. Plus, you can hear something similar to a part from a Grizzco song at the end. It's probably one of those things where they subtly hint at who the villain is, but don't outright tell us who it is.

In splatoon 2 hero mode trailer Callie’s laugh played in the end and she was the final boss. While it may not be the best it is still by far my fav if it had a bangin campaign… then it will easily be the most ambitious franchise Nintendo has ever made growing radically within the fewest installments and i will die on the hill that it is already that. Nothing looks sounds or plays like splatoon and I don’t think that unlike their franchises Mario,Zelda etc it is the one that will be the hardest to emulate

been playing splatoon since the global testfire on the wii u back in 2014. i could cry happy tears for how far we've come. the splatoon franchise is one of the greatest things nintendo has ever produced. it is so dear to my heart. i can't wait to buy the art book, amiibos and merchandise. i'm ready. i hope they never give up on splatoon!

I think they're furry because they adapted to their environment. If you look closely, the single player areas are mainly made up of snow meaning they'd need warmth to be protected from the cold.

I think it’s Agent 4 as they are yellow canonical and Agent 3 is Green. However Captain Cuddle fish is in this, so Agent 3 and 8 can’t be far. I wonder if Pearl and Marina are in this too?

@@Superstarzs2000 Agent 3 has the long tentacles, as seen in Octo Expansion, whereas 4 is often depicted with the shorter tentacles. They're also wearing Cap'n Cuttlefish's hat and cape... thing. Agent 4 doesn't have as close a connection with the captain or the Squid Sisters as 3 does, so I think it's more likely 3 sitting there rather than 4. ^-^
