There were 2 terms in the 90s for people like the guy portrayed in the song: “Wigga” and “Wanksta.”
In fact, after Ja Rule came after 50 Cent over details of a robbery and wether or not 50 cent hung out with the robber at a club later, 50 Cent retaliated with the song “Wanksta,” dissing Ja Rule for trying to be hard core when he was really a phony (in 50 Cent’s perspective).

Our city did not get MTV on its cable system until December 1998 (yes it took 17 years to get it). One of the first shows that I saw on that channel was TRL with Carson Daly as the host. This video was on the countdown and I absolutely loved it. It was directed by McG, who also directed such videos as Fly by Sugar Ray, Walkin on the Sun by Smash Mouth, and Legend of a Cowgirl by Imani Coppola. He also directed the 2000 film Charlie's Angels, and since has directed more films then has been involved with a number of movie and TV projects.
The Offspring is a terrific band!
