I mean, in terms of size, strength, and weight, elephants are kind of literally the biggest guys on land. I'm not surprised Loxodont doesn't need too many fancy tools to be a beast to have to deal with. If Aether Studios is setting Lox up to be the villain of the Rivals series, I'd say they picked a pretty powerful looking foe to lock in as the main antagonist.

Rivals of Aether isn't afraid to make heavyweights cracked!!
Not cracked but balancend. It's easy to make a heavyweight in a fighting game overpowered and even easier to make them underpowered. But balancing them to perfectly fit is very hard as hell, and the Rivals team has mastered the art of a completely balanced roster.
i think it's doubly hard in a plat fighter with di/recovery/custom combos. but rivals always did it well. krag is probably one of the best designs for a heavy in any plat fighter, arguably even just the best design for any arctype in a plat fighter.@@unskilledgamer3642

@@unskilledgamer3642it might be easy to make them overpowered in a REGULAR fighting game, but a platform fighter is another matter. The only heavyweight I've seen that could even debatably be called OP in that genre is P+ Donkey Kong.

The Zeno Clash games tend to have some pachydermal opponents as well. The third game, Artifacts of Chaos, even has a recurring prehistoric pachyderm based on a Platybelodon who is the largest normal opponent you can find.
It's a cool series.
Loxodont existed a long time in the Aether universe. He was already seen in the little "story mode" of Rivals 1, long before Clairen was a thing. When Clairen hit the stage, she got an entire backstory with Lox which turned into comics and stuff.

@@maravreloaded and Ganondorf is usually portrayed as a warlock who relies on magic and swordfighting. Loxodon's gameplay does remind a bit of the trident swinging demon boar Ganon was in the old Zelda games.

Fair warning, the elephant is the main villain who was conspicuously absent from the roster of the first game.

Now that I think about it, there hasn't actually been a lava character in the fire elements. We already have Flame, smoke, plasma, and explosions(Magnesiums, gunpowder, etc.) I totally forgot that lava can still be considered fire despite mostly being represented as an earth element.
Can also add ash to the list of things we haven't had in fire elements yet. I don't have the artistic ability to make a character who uses ash for the Rivals 1 workshop but the idea of an ash using dragon has been in my head for some years.

Clairen was obvious if you'd followed Aether content for a while (an early WIP 3D model of her was actually used as a teaser for Rivals 2, and of course the comic leads directly into the story of this game), but I didn't expect Loxodont to be playable, considering how huge he is in the comic. I thought he'd be a boss character. That nigh-invincible robot body of his must've just increased his size from his original form, which in hindsight makes plenty of sense.

Clairen's my favorite Rivals character and I'm so glad she not only got this hype ass story focused trailer but she also got her main antagonist in the game that ALSO looks like someone I'd play.
This is the hyper thing to happen to Rivals for me.
I wasn't expecting Present Loxodont to be part of the roster but it's really interesting.
It makes sense, considering the rest of the game takes place during the main time period. I'm sure future Loxodont might be a costume tho

I alway thought that if Lox ever gets to be playable his stage theme would be similar to Flame Mammoth. In the end it doesn't sound lkke that, but it's just as good.
Clairen alone would’ve been hype, she was my main and looks incredible here, but Loxodont too is amazing! So happy to see new characters being added!

hey guys i'm gonna explain what i assume loxodont's moveset is from the trailer because i'm bored. none of this is certain it's just what i'm pretty sure the moveset is from watching the trailer
special mechanic - whenever you use a special, it spawns lava on the floor. this lava takes a couple of seconds to activate, and after it activates it stays there until you touch it (assumedly it also does something if the enemy touches it but that isn't shown in the trailer). after you touch the lava, it disappears and you gain 1 of what i'm going to call lava charges. these lava charges seem to enhance your strongs by making them multihitting (the charges disappear after using a strong) and your down special, and you can have up to 3 of them.
neutral special - a ball of lava that flies out in an arc and falls to the ground. you can charge it to enhance the height and distance of the arc, as well as making it spawn more lava.
side special - a lunging grab that can be used in the air or on the ground. it spawns lava along the ground as you move, and if it connects the opponent is thrown down.
up special - generic up special, goes up and then down while dealing damage along the way.
down special - makes an explosion that gets bigger and launches you farther the more lava charges you have, and gets rid of your current lava charges. idk what it does with no charges, maybe it gives you a charge.

if he uses a air dash with lava he gets an hitbox (see end of final clip)
Also the lava empowers smash attack (as seen with the lava-empowered up smash used against not-falco)

I gotta admit, I love the character skins they showed in this trailer. The white armor on Clairen, an Abyss version of Zetter, tribal looks for Kragg and Loxodont. Now I'm hyped to see what kind of skins the rest of the roster got.

Clairen looks really cool, but I hope we get different sword hit sounds. They currently sound like a mosquito getting hit with a bug zapper. Would sound more satisfying if it was a bit deeper and hard hitting sounding. Think light saber

I only saw the video at a glance and read “Clairen and Loadout” so the Loxodont reveal really surprised me. I’m really excited to try them both out!
Indies once again proving to be the backbone of the gaming industry! The voice actors nailed their roles and I'm 100% more interested in the conflict between Loxodont & Clairen than most of the Aether lore that existed before. I'm so happy the team got enough budget to realize more of their vision. This game looks extremely promising.

I remember when this sequel was announced some years ago and I have been hyped for it ever since! Love learning more about the lore of Rivals as well as seeing updates of how the game is coming along! Cannot wait to be able to purchase it :)

Loxodont is such a King Dedede... he is going to be my main.
Well both of them are self proclaimed rulers, but Loxodont is an ursuper who only desires power and rules with an iron fist while Dedede actually cares for his subjects (even if he doesn't show it all the time).
I loved Dedede in smash so I'm gonna love Loxodont too! Can't wait to play him.
