I surprised my 16 y.o. son with tickets to this show. i had only heard so of their music in my sons bedroom. He had told me that they were such a unique and cool bad. It wasn't till i saw them at this show to find out he was right . seem them around 8-9 times since.
that is a sweet story. My mother took me and my best pal to the show on this tour! But she never indulged my increasingly weird musical preferences once I learned to drive, ha ha.

So fun seeing this after all these years. I was there. Won tickets from local radio station (KJEE) and brought a buddy. I've told this story many times over the years, about Maynard coming out in full drag and incrementally disrobing. *ALSO* Not sure if Santa Barbara kept its word on this, but at the time, the city said Tool would *never* be invited back, because they totally broke the city's sound ordinances with this show. Santa Barbara Bowl is an open-air, lovely venue in the middle of some equally lovely neighborhoods. Not only were the neighbors pissed, but bars on State Street downtown reported being able to hear the concert, on a Saturday night over their own loudness. Quite a night. Thanks for sharing this!!

I was at this show. Still one of the best shows I've ever been to.
awesome. I was at the Dallas show, at about age 13... I forgot about the costume changes until just now. Except in Dallas I could swear he was dressed like an evangelical preacher with a short wig, waving a Bible around-- then stripped down to lingerie.
I wouldn't doubt it, I know I've seen pictures of him dressed as a preacher in photos. I've only seen these guys live 3 times and two of those have been in the last year. Staples Center in October and T-Mobile Arena in January.
@@Undertool oh wow, so the recent stuff! Did it hold up? I didn't get to go, because it would have been San Francisco and I could have never afforded it, or gotten tickets before it sold out, or been able to figure out how to go without getting overwhelmed with the means of getting there and getting home... ha, still too much of a country boy for city's nonsense.
The band still sounds really good live, they're really in sync with each other. Maynard has backed off vocally a quite a bit since the 90's, you can tell he doesn't want to destroy his vocal cords.
I was in the center of the first row for the show at the Staples Center which is a strange place to see a Tool show from. It was awesome because you could see Adam and Justin taking cues from each other and from Danny, the only real issue is that I was too close to see what they're trying to achieve visually as a whole. They incorporated a sort of semi-transparent curtain for the Fear Inoculum tour and so when they were using the curtain it was basically over my head. When I saw them in Vegas I was still on the floor but back to the left of the audio mixing equipment.
The only disappointing thing for me was that both shows were the same set. I was hoping that they would switch things up for the second leg of the tour, unfortunately, they did not.
@@Undertool dang, lucky enough to get up front at a tool concert... I've seen them twice, and both times it was like looking into a shoebox diorama of tiny figurines. Up front viewing has its own special charm.

I was at a show that weekend, not sure if it was this show but my girlfriend got us tickets for my 26th birthday, and some kind roadie gave us orchestra pit access, my elbows were Center Stage the entire show. Best show I’ve ever seen hands down…
