Dennis was doing great. He was never blind or paralyzed and any website other than TheClassicsIV is a bogus sight. He chose the members and consulted on the newest The Classics IV CD.He said it wasn't about him, it was all about the music. When Dennis died, he owned the Trademark and made plans for the official band to go on.Thank you for all your kind words.Just go to the right website for info, not ones selling shirts or mugs. Mrs.Dennis Yost
@lvyost I've always loved Traces and of course The Classic IV. Everytime I listen to this song, it triggers memories from my childhood and make me long for many years gone by. But I know my longing is nothing compared to yours Mrs Yost thank you for sharing your precious time in here. It's much appreciated and though it is a year late- my sincere sympathy. God Bless.
THANK YOU for posting this video!! Despite the quality problems, it was great seeing 23 year old Dennis and the original group again. Brought back memories of when I first met him in '62. He was a great talent and one of the nicest guys I ever knew.
Poylanna is a truly great song, very upbeat. Dennis could also hit the high notes with the Classics. Thank you so much Dennis Yost. We'll still be singing and listening to all your wonderful music. We all love you very much. God bless your wife Linda and all the family.
For some reason they sound alot like the 4 Seasons here. This song is new to me even tho I remember all his old hits when they came out. When my hubby went to heaven in March from a heart attack, I know he met Dennis. They are home now.
I am sorry for you. Your husband brought great joy to the world. And that's all that counts now. He will always be alive to those of us who love his music.
We are all truly sorry for your loss and for the loss of such a voice and musical genius. I don't know anyone in my class who didn't dance to "Spooky" and get their first kiss because of it.
Dennis was doing great as far as his injuries. His sight had greatly improved and he walked without any help. I saw him many times over the last year and a half. rock and Roll Heaven gained a great voice.
This was filmed in San Diego. It was either a park or the zoo. Yes, Dennis did sound like the 4 Seasons, in fact this record was going national on the charts until Frankie Valli's manager called WABC in New York and threatened to never give them another exclusive of the Seasons if they played "Pollyanna". This turned out for the best because Dennis stopped immitating other groups and started to use his own wonderful unique voice...the rest is history! Mrs. Dennis (Linda) Yost
lvyost, thanks for that info. It cleared up the confusion I felt the first few seconds of the performance. At first Ithought the show made an error and it wasn't the classics IV, because it didn't sound like their famous recordings and I thought they were announced as the Classics. However the camera immediately focused on Dennis and was surprised but happy to see it really was the Classics iV. Sorry for such an awful loss with what happened to Dennis. Since then, I've seen many new people discover the group and the amazing and unique voice of Dennis.
It was Bob Crewe the 4 Seasons producer that called WMCA AM and said if you don't pull this record you wont get any more exclusives on 4 Seasons records
Dennis Yost was truly a "Classic". What an incredible voice! Though it's a long shot that he and the Classics IV will ever be recognized by the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame...They should!
You're Welcome. It came to me as a big shock. I hadn't kept up with Dennis' health and I am really sad. Turn up the volume so that Den can hear us all the way up there!
So sad to hear about Dennis, may he Rest In Peace-- and his wonderful Music will be play- ed, and all the Fans will miss, and Love him so much. Yes, this song sounds very much like Frankie Valli, and the song has a Beach Boys Vibe. VF, please don't be sad, Dennis is in good company now, with all the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers... Best to you, Marcie B.
Your right. Nobody sounded like Dennis Yost. No one could have successfully copied him, no one could have done a Classics IV song nearly as perfectly as he did. Classics IV hits of 1968-69 are equal to the best music recorded in that period, due in no small part to superb vocals by Mr Yost.
@lvyost -- Mrs. Yost, I was too young (11 years old) to have ever been in love when "Traces" was a new song and I first heard it. But I was crazy for Top 40 radio and I was completely captivated by that wonderful song and by Mr. Yost's MASTERFUL vocal performance. What a fine year that was, 1969. First, "Traces", then "Every Day With You, Girl", and then "Change Of Heart". Add "Spooky" and "Stormy" and it's a great musical legacy.
"Polyanna" was released by Capitol Records in 1966, at a time when the Four Seasons were at their peak. The Classics' similarity was deemed too close for the Seasons' camp, who forced Capitol to stop promoting the disc. By 1968 the band became the Classics IV with their own string of hits, beginning with "Spooky". Strange how Billy Joel knocked off a Four Seasons sound-alike hit in 1983 with "Uptown Girl".
By the time Billy Joel scored with "Uptown Girl," the Four Seasons were well passed their second peak of popularity; releasing the "Streetfighter" album only 7 years before their Rock n' Roll HOF induction.
I loved the song and was surprised to hear of your husbands death I am truly sorry...I loved his music and it brought back very many memories ...There was no one like him and he will be missed Again i am so sorry for your loss
@rubybhernandez Thank you for the kind words and comfort. Yes, it's hard missing Dennis, but his fans have sure rallyed around and have made many more happy memories sharing their love and stories with me. Thank you and God Bless you all! Mrs. Dennis (Linda) Yost
Would love to hear the entire story from the time Dennis learned of the threat by the Four Seasons through to the time he made his first hit record with his natural voice.
Dennis was good for sure, great voice but he could not match a true original like Frankie Valli! I am sorry Dennis passed away but let's just enjoy the music like he said "It is all about the music".

If I close my eyes, I'd swear this was the Four Seasons.... :)

Sherry Von me too
This song was written by Joe South.
In contrast to their later sound, this is a very interesting tune...more like the Four Seasons than any of their hit songs.
Wow. They sound like the Four Seasons.
Oh, they'll make it there,,are you kidding me ?
They do sound a lot alike, don't they?
Brian Wilson's favorite singer.
Jim
What a great sound, flip side is awesome too, Cry Baby.
His falsetto was much better than Frankie Valli’s
About what did hi die?
