    You should try putting a volume spacer in the rear shock. That way you can have the suspension soft off the top but not bottom out on the drops. Hopefully I can get a bike like that for my GF one day.... She's also Japanese.

      I have a friend who is very petite and would like a 150mm rear travel mullet. She got the GT force 27.5 which has a flip chip. On low BB setting a mullet setup balances it out to aggressive geometry

    More air is maybe not the way to go. Tokens and compression damping is what you should look into.
    Suspension setup means so much for the bike handling 👍🏼👍🏼

    Everyone talking about volume spacers, but nobody talking about the fact that rear shock has full compression and rebound adjustment. Dial in some compression if you're bottoming on big features.

  • @JNOTECH
    @JNOTECH 3 роки тому +3

    Yuka-san, the rear shock works like this. If you add more air, you're making the (air) spring stronger (stiffer) throughout its movement. If you like the beginning and mid stroke to be the same but want more bottom out protection, try adding a token or two.
    The Rockshox Super Deluxe only has a Low Speed Compression adjustment so slowing it will not improve much for drops. The LSC is mainly for compensating for your leg input (like pedal bobbing) or really pushing into sweeping corners with your legs. If you feel the rear is sagging too much, slow the LSC down a couple of clicks and try again.
    For drops, the only way to adjust bottom out protection on the Super Deluxe is by using tokens. Check to see what's in there, then add a token, aim to use the same air pressure or 2-3 psi less than what you used before and try again.

    🌈I like your simplified approach. Your video shows "real life". More "down to earth" than these pro videos... It makes you want to... I like the parts where you analyze the obstacles and routes in addition to being very well filmed on the way. Even if you clearly have the means to have high-end equipment, you keep it simple. Good road ! 🏁

    I am a 60 year old ex motocross, road race rider from back in the day so my body is pretty beat up now and as much as I'd love to get into riding mountain bikes my old injuries are pretty prohibitive. Glad to hear you like your Santa Cruz Bronson. After 13 years on a Specialized Carve Pro 29er hard tail I finally went full suspension and plonked down the $$$ for a Santa Cruz Bronson. It was worth every penny. Rock gardens that used to rattle my bones and shake my teeth loose are now incredibly smooth. Landing jumps on trails use to involve bouncing, steering and braking adjustments to keep my bike on the trail - Not anymore - I’m landing like a swan on water - cushioned and smooth with complete control. I love the “reverse mullet” or 29” in front and 27.5” in back on the berms - like laser tight tracking on these turns. A total and complete game changer whether I’m rolling along on the flats, climbing steep technical inclines or BOMBING the steep downhills I feel in complete control on this bike. Thank you for your video. You are a HARD CHARGER and that’s inspiring!!!

    When I got a pro suspension setup they recommended 20-25% sag for the fork, which is actually a softer initial ride then 30%, due to not interning the mid stroke too early. Try it!

And for your bottom out issue, try to not land with as much weight on the read, I do the same thing when I'm scared by a drop, I move back and it makes my landing "back heavy"... Of course you can try a token too in the shock

    I am 165 cm and have been looking at the same bike, except that the small still appears to be a bit big for me and the x-small does not come as a mullet and I really want a mullet. I hope to be able to demo a Bronson soon in both sizes. I would highly recommend testing the x-small bike. I did in some other brands and absolutely loved the really small sizes as it greatly increases the bike and body separation and it makes it so much easier to on difficult sections of the trail, whether in the air or on the ground. Good luck Yuka!!!

    I'm glad you're happy with the new bike. You can't really go wrong with a Santa Cruz. But whenever I hear someone say 'maybe I wouldn't have crashed if I had more suspension', I don't think that's ever the case. A new bike always feels a little odd at first. By all means tweak your setup to get it feeling good, but it's not the suspension, or lack of mm travel that makes you crash.. 😉. Keep riding and having fun!

  • @nath5440
    @nath5440 3 роки тому +3

    Its not a bad setting just because you use all the travel, In theory if your suspension is set up right you should use all the available travel, especially off drops at the upper end of your comfort zone. Also as you prob know when adding more air you may also consider slowing down your rebond by a click or two to stop the "pogo" affect. Adding a spacer will help your shock ramp up at the end of the stroke and give you that extra support you might be chasing rather than adding air and loosing the supple feel on the chatter.

    I’m so glad you got the new Bronson! So cool! And yes, you always seem nose heavy on drops, even on the old bike. I’m no expert, but... what first comes to mind is learn how to to do soft landings with a bmx bike off of 3-5 foot drops, or a hard tail Mtb for that matter. I feel like you need to learn how to throw the bike around more. You have the trail skills for sure, but you need to work on choosing whether or not or front or back tire hits first and how to handle those situations.

    I ride bigger drops on a hard tail just adapt your body and get used to taking to drops and you won't be concerned with 10mm of travel. Really just try to make your back wheel land first and it helps absorb the drop.

    Nice bike Yuka!!!! Enjoy it. I always put one spacer under the stem, I don't like to have the stem as first contact over the head tube bearings cover. One 5 mm spacer is enough to avoid the brake levers hit your frame (maybe yours do not hit the frame in a fall.

      I try really hard not to recommend shit, just because I ride it, but I have had good experience w/ Santa Cruz (at least the frame). I think they're a bit spendy, but all bikes are getting even more expensive with inflation now. I think you really have to look at what type of riding you do and find a bike that fits that. I don't particularly like super crazy slack bikes. Santa Cruz seems a little bit on the conservative side compared to other companies.
