Thanks for sharing! I’ve wanted a few for months to put around my basement, particularly near my sump pump.
Thanks Cody! Really appreciate the initial review. Curious what you will think in a few weeks. To me it raises a lot of questions about why Ubiquiti decided to package all of the sensors into one. I guess it's meant for alerting you of things when you aren't home. Maybe as a prompt to check your video feeds. It is very similar to the Ecobee Smart Sensor which I love... but more because it shuts off my AC when windows are open. Curious if they will add triggerable events. And as Christian also pointed out, yes the "Alarm" is to detect an alarm. If your smoke alarm goes off and you aren't home, it will let you know.
The alarm function listens for standard carbon monoxide and/or fire alarm tones and can trigger events based on that like push notifications and other events.
I’m going to have to do a firealarm test to see how it works thanks :)
Minor correction. CO, not CO2. Carbon monoxide is far more dangerous, while CO2 is all over the place, so thank God it isn't. But yes, the product page shows it listens for fire and carbon monoxide alarm patterns found in standard fire alarms in houses and aparments.
@@seanbell9922 my bad thanks for the correction just typed it and never triggered in my mind i put the 2 on there haha i fixed it thanks again
@@MactelecomNetworks did the fire alarm test work? Also it said 20cm which is 7.8 inches away from the fire alarm, that's too close no?
@@Rob81818 Can anyone tell if it works by more than 20cm?
I notice you mounted the powered portion of the Smart Sensor to the door. This seems like it would be less than optimal. Whenever the door opens, the motion detection would cover a different area. I would think you would want the powered portion on the wall, with the magnet detecting open or close on the door.
In addition, how far away does the magnet work for detection of open/close? This might be really important for things like garage doors, where you can't get the magnet that close to the garage door. Another important consideration would be how quickly do these detect motion? Does it give a very quick response, which would be useful for turning on lights as you enter a room, or does it take several seconds. In addition, any info from UI on if they will support Matter/Thread going forward, so that this might interoperate with other devices? At this price point, they will need to be quite good, or other existing solutions will have stronger feature sets.
Great informative video thanks.
Im in the unifi eco system here in the uk. I think unifi have the alarm side of thing’s missing in their protect range. This may be a start of things to come. What I’d love to see is the ability to use existing wiring from the main alarm panel to the sensors into any new protect sensor. In which case if unifi came up with their own fully integrated protect alarm system. The user could simply remove the old panels and sensors and replace with the unifi system. Have an Ethernet connection from panel to UDM…. And you have a fully integrated alarm system in Protect.
Literally looking for this alarm too with Unifi? When Unifi???
For the alarm, looking at the picture, it looks like you could use it for the alarm from a smoke detector or any devices that let out a loud alarm like a smoke detector.
Correct!
Dang! I didn't realize these were out of EA. Gotta watch for them next round.
I've got nine spread true the house. After I adopted them in Protect, Home Assistant can use them to trigger unlimited kinds of activities. Because of the UniFi sensors my home alarm is now really smart.
I really need to get into home assistant
@@MactelecomNetworks Yes... yes you do!
@@MactelecomNetworks I put it off for a long time and I finally did last month. Wish I did it so long ago. I absolutely love it and it's easier than you think.
Hi - Just got one and have home assistant setup, any guides on how to include the sensor in home assistant?
@@Tetsuo90210 add the sensor in unifi. Then in home assistant go to settings- devices and services-add integration. And look up unifi and all your devices will be there after signing in/linking it.
Basically a Nest Detect for Unifi
Greetings from Denmark.
Thank you for all the great videos, Cody! Really appriciate it!
Quick question, will these sensors work with the Dream Router? It not on the compatability list, but it's Wifi 6 and has bluetooth. So, maybe?
Hope you can answer this.
Keep up the good work, Jay.
Does the sensor work with the U6 Mesh? I have a U6 Lite but it is two floors away from where the sensor would be installed.
What's the "light" option? Does it interact with zigbee or sonoff light a switches on motion defined by time of day?
I have mine set up. Is there not a way to get push notifications for when a door is opened? Seems a little pointless if not and I’ve looked everywhere in the settings both in the app and the web portal.
Can I use this as an exit sensor for UniFi access? So motion would unlock the door?
Can someone determine what a sensor is on the lower end pointing toward the wall, behind the wiremesh?
I noticed this is not supported by the U6 Lite/LR early access models, any way to tell if we have a U6 Early Access device? Seems like they should explain how to tell the difference but they don't...
So what all do i need to get so i can get them sensors on my door. I have Cloud Key Gen2 Plus now with 3 bullet cameras and two flex cameras. Thanks Dan
Can the magnet be mounted on either side?
Hallo, Are these the only generation created by Ubiquiti, or are there others as well? Because in some photos, they have 3 small dots in the front, while some like these have 2 dots.
The alarm is for sensing an alarm pattern from a existing alarm. (Such as a smoke alarm.) Based on UL217 and UL2034 alarm patterns.
Would be super cool if they added an option for the motion detection, where if your phone is not active on the wifi and motion is detected, it will send a push notification with a picture from the associated camera. So you can add Mac address groups, say you, kids, wife etc. And if none are present the house "Arms" and will not send notifications from a select group of sensors, like inside the house. But still from outside if its after dark etc.
Hi Cody,
Could you test, demonstrate how the leak sensor works?
I searched but couldn't find a real test for this anywhere. Can it really be used to detect water leaks?
Are these compatible with U6-Lite?
Great video!
When will unifi do a compete alarm system!???? I have most but will have to go to ADT for alarm and this is nuts. As want to use unifi for all
This is kind of a head-scratcher for me. I have Unifi Protect with several cameras, and I love the system, but this seems half-baked. I want something turnkey with monitoring built-in, and this all-in-one sensor thing seems to raise the price point when you're only going to use 2-3 functions on each. I use several contact sensors - $59 each, And then you have to home brew monitoring? Maybe I don't understand. Now, if someone implements an affordable LoRa security system with monitoring, that'll get my attention.
Cody does yours go offline a lot I can't get mine to stay online
What would be nice is if I could overlay the info on the connected camera live
Hi MN.
Love your cover of the UI systems, it has help me a lot.
Regarding the smart sensor, can it be used as a “normal” alarm system?
We need a new alarm system at my workplace, and this might be it. But I can’t find any information on if you can use it as a regular alarm system.
So, when we come to work and unlock the door with UI access, the alarm is turnoff.
And when we leave and lock the door, we will receive notification if some one is inside the area where the sensors cover.
There is a video in this if it can, because no one has covert that side of the sensor/system.
Any update on how to attach an alarm?
I use one of this inside my server rack at a remote location monitor temp, humidity and door motion
"I have an issue with a UP Smart Sensor. All my devices are in different VLANs and the sensor won't detect any bridged device unless it's in the same VLAN. I don't understand why, since all the other devices can see each other. For example, I removed one of my Ubiquiti antennas from the VLAN for Wi-Fi and assigned it the security profile, and it was immediately detected there. Any suggestions or rules I should implement?"
Dude! I've been waiting months for this......
Watched your video a few times, and for the life of me I can not get my new sensor to show up in either the Android app and/or logged in on my computer. All of my APs on my UNVR show 'Available' and I have 1 x U6-LR and 3 x U6-Pro (all of which are APs that have Bluetooth). If anyone has ideas, it would be much appreciated.
Can this be used outside?
Looking forward to the review on the G4 Doorbell Pro now that it’s left EA and in GR
Should have it next week
I assume this works with the U7?
why did they combine the accelerometer and window sensors into the unit. those would be much better as a cheaper standalone. I'm not buying a $75 sensor for every window just to get the magnet functionality.
So it has to be within 50ish feet of the Wi-Fi 6 AP? I want to grab some of these but I have to buy a new AP. But I want some of these on different floors. So if I have one in the basement, and want one on the upper level, I feel like I may have to get 2 AP’s to make sure they’re within 50 feet. Is that right?
Yup
I take it the sensor is not meant to be installed outdoors?
I assumed that the alarm function was that it recognised an alarm rather that linking to an alarm 🤷♂️
I just got two this week. Noticed that the temp is only in Celcius, dont see an option to convert.
This is a setting in the Protect console under Settings > System.
Each time you have to replace the battery the sticky pad goes bad because you need to remove it?
If you are going to display your picture over the screen it be nice if you would not put over the menu heading when you have a blank upper right area where there is nothing
I was thinking of getting these but curious on how good they are and how long the battery lasts. I understand it lasts based on how many options you check but does this mean that you will be changing batteries every couple of months? I would like to get some for my house but if the batteries die really fast might reconsider.
I’ll have to let you know in a few weeks when I see the battery drain
@@MactelecomNetworks just curious how the battery on the sensor is doing?
@@MactelecomNetworks how’s the battery now?
@@frankaugustin6224I have the nest detects which are the same thing (minus the alarm sound) and most batteries are like 2 years old and still no sign of slowing down.
looks impossible to open it when its mounted to the wall, is that the case?
@StrifeDimmer21 thanks
Where do I find Unifi Protect? I have Unifi Express and Access Point U7 Pro and Unifi Sense. I cannot see how to adopt the Unifi sense in my network. I don't see a Unifi Protect tab anywhere. Please help. Thanks.
Express only runs Network and does not allow you to install Protect. You need a CloudKey Gen 2 or purchase a new gateway that will allow you to run multiple Unifi applications
@@SteveTran-mx6kc Thanks for responding. :). Like the Dream Machine Pro? Thanks
@UI store always Freaking SOLD OUT. How do they stay in business? Great video for a unavailable product.
In stock in Canada. Was available last week just need to keep your eye on the store
@@MactelecomNetworks great video! I'm super excited to get a couple of these. Been checking the US store daily for 2 months. I'll start checking the Canada store daily also.
How did the install on the farm go? Also are these outdoor rated?
Hey,
So didn't happen yet they are still in construction and needed to fix a few things before I go in
@@MactelecomNetworks Do you know if these sensors are outdoor rated? I looked on there website but didn’t see anything about it.
@@keltonforester183 Mine is currently in a rebooting loop because it is too cold outside, 23 Degrees F, so not outdoor rated.
Hi, I'm curious how the sensor battery is doing ?
I installed one 3 days ago and it's dropped 18% already. I have the door sensor, humidity and temp sensors active. The sensor is about 5 feet from the AP.
@@jwfloorcovering8244 Thanks for your feedback, it doesn't seem quite right yet, the battery goes down really fast. I'll wait for further developments.
Unifi should advertise this as an Indoor Sensor, I put one out under a covered porch and at about 23 degrees F and lower it continuously is in a reboot loop, it is still showing the temp at 16 degrees but we will see how long the battery lasts. Pretty Lame that they did not put the operating temps on the webpage and for 50 bucks a pop it should be good for whatever temp you put it in.
This is the nest sensor wow
The thing that makes me nervous is that it's only sticky mounting. In my experience over time stuff starts to fall off walls
Nope they have option to screw in as well: I just did the sticky mounting as I didn’t want to put more holes in the wall
3M command strips can easily solve that if you’re unable to use screws
Plus every time you change the battery - which on at least one of the examples here will be frequently as even the software said the battery life will be short - you have to rip it off the wall.
Pity they're not available wired.
they need a centralized siren if motion is detected at certain times.
I agree
@@MactelecomNetworks I hope they come out with an actual alarm. I currently have a complete ring alarm system with ringing cameras. I’m going to replace the cameras with UniFi. I guess I’ll keep the Ring portion for now.
$59 is too much. I was thinking of getting these for my shop for my protect, but the ones I have with my alarm system only cost $12.
For the amount of things this sensor can detect it's a fair price compared to the competition. There are cheaper ones but they're usually zigbee ones limited to detecting a single thing, like smoke particles or motion.
if have wire option will be good
Changing the batteries all the time would get old real fast
The 3 pack only has 1 water base not 3...
will come back to this Ubiquiti chapter when, or should i say 'IF', it becomes available/in stock... Guessing 2024
Smart sensors have been hard to get cant argue with that
How long did the battery last?
Still going and all about 80%
Oh nice. How many features are you using? Just one on each?
does this integrate into home assistant?
I believe so I don’t use home assistant so can’t be 100% but someone else commented it did
Yes, I can confirm that this can be integrated flawlessly
@@JurgenJessurun is there a way to turn Unifi into an actual home security alarm system? I’m going to keep using my ring alarm for now.
@@JazJonFL Yes, that is absolutely possible.
@@JurgenJessurun Would one of the Homebridge or HomeAssitant diY BYo security plugins be the best option?

They look identical to the google nest protect sensors, that google discontinued. I have them installed in my house. I wonder if ubiquity bought the patents to it.
I was thinking the same thing, a lot like the Nest sensors.
Pretty sure you put that door sensor backwards on your front door. The big piece should go on the frame
Ya probably, Doesnt really matter either way its just for door opening and closing
No he followed the pictures Ubiquiti has in the app. Right or wrong well I don't know
I don't know why they release these products if they aren't even going to include features their competitors have.
This is literally the now discontinued google security sensor.
That’s what I was just going to say
Looks an awful lot like the Nest sensor. I bet they bought the IP.

Yay! More crap we can't buy! 90% of Ubiquiti's product is sold out with no indication of when it will be back. No support and no certification program. Right about now, I'm seriously concerned that they'll go out of business completely and I'll be stuck with a huge constellation of unsupported networking equipment.
This week they have released thousands of devices . You need to watch the Reddit page or just the webpage in general.
They have training in the USA not sure how good it is though
@@MactelecomNetworks Thank you for the response, it means a lot. I can see that some p2p bridges and some unifi stuff came in. They even have stock of the old NSM5 right now; but I still don't see any edge equipment. No edge switches, most Unifi switches are out of stock. It worries me. Maybe I shouldn't freak out about it but frankly, my business depends on this equipment and it isn't easy at all to identify alternatives that do everything UI products do.
Would you be able to post the Reddit link here?
