You always impress me with your attention to detail and the neatness if your work. Many people don’t recognize the importance of neat work until it cones time to troubleshoot. My old trade school instructor would be pleased. He always emphasized to us apprentices to do our work in a neat and workmanlike manner. Hope we get to see more on site videos.
Beautiful install! You are a true professional Cody. Thanks for all the great content you’ve shared over the years, I really appreciate you sharing your expertise.
I enjoy watching your videos, funny to me because in the UK we treat things like this like a factory worker, one company for cabling, another for CCTV and in house or or another company for network management, yet you do all three. I would love to do that as my daily job.
Yep especially after seeing the mess of wires in our network cabinets at the schools I work at. I'm an IT tech for a school district. I spent many hours about 3 years ago cleaning up the cabinets at 2 sites. They're not pretty, but they look much better than when I started. Its one of my summer projects, but we have too many other projects going on and I feel we're very understaffed relative to the amount of projects we have.
Sweet install, very clean indeed. Must admit that AI theta is looking interesting. It is much more discrete but with that dewarping mode, impressive video output.
Great video. I'd love to hear about how you go about customer acquisition to get and then any CRM you use to retain customers, as well as any pricing. Would especially love to hear about getting in on new installs.
Nice job! One recommendation for mounting the equipment. Put the screws in the bottom holes and not diagonal or the top. As gravity holds the top. Plus its a good habit for when you put taller than 1RU items in as it eliminates any torquing and twisting of the equipment.
If I had that job, I think I would have convinced the Project Manager (probably just one of the Doctor's) to buy and have installed (using different cabling paths) backup CAT-6 cables to each outlet in all critical ares. I managed the Network install of my Brother-In-Laws medical office (as a favor with no Pay). About 6-months later, a fan in one of the Air Conditioner vents was replaced, and they accidentally cut (and pulled-out for some reason) four of the CAT-6 cables, resulting in the loss of network for two Doctors on their Office Desktops (fortunately redundant using WiFi), and connectivity to their CT Scan and one X-Ray room. It took almost a week to get everything back up by running/replacing the runs (once again gratis on my part and also leading to injury on one of my knees - however there were many doctors and 'easy to look at' Nurses around to help). Lesson Learned, unless the 'easy to look at' is considered a bonus.
Hi Kodi, I really love your unifi videos, I was wondering if you could make a video on unifi protect, access and talk multi site management (having same credentials and permissions that work between different sites with different dream machines or UNVR or cloud keys). Basically the setup is going to be to have a user be able to use their door access credentials in different offices and can call a different site/office with and internal extension through talk.
Larger service loops. tighter sweeps to patch panels. First two access points are too close. Unifi protect, and access = boo. Lucky to have conduit in the wall. Used to fishing everything.
Good job but it will be interesting to know also how you configure these networks. For example do you segment data, VoIP, cctv, Guest Wi-Fi with VLANS, etc ?
I really like your videos giving allot of information, and your installs are neat. Can you do a couple of videos on the settings in just unifi console? In some of your videos you lock the system down tight, others you don't cover I so much. I am trying to manage a church unifi network and end a couple of threats. Something has maipoi usage in the Gb level and trying to lock it down.
I've been in Cisco environments and have now been tasked to find solutions to our smaller clientele with budget constraints. Unifi gear is a god send, however some things I'm traditionally used to such as "Stacking" doesn't look to be supported, am I wrong? How are we managing "Stacks", Lost right now.
Beautiful work, Absolutely gorgeous layout. Is this circuit on emergency power? Did you put in a large UPS. I think EP is key when dealing with access control and security cameras.
The lock is just an electric strike that is connected to the Unifi access hub to get power 12v. The network is connected to a UPS in case of power failure
At my workplace we often do similar job sites with Unifi Network and cameras - do you know if there is any marketing material (like videos or pictures) we can use on our Website or instagram to promote the products?
Beautiful install man I wish I would have gone with ubiquiti hardware instead of FS. I like the rack it's a perfect size. Need to get one myself but a little smaller.
Excellent work Cody!, I wanted to ask you about the size of the patch cords you used and where I can buy them, I find that it looks much better than using long patch cords and Rack Mount Cable Management Raceway Duct Panel with Cover Black. Congratulations on your work.
I love it! Nice work dude. Working on a Doctors office as well. Started the ubiquiti drip a while ago with a couple of In wall APs and a POE 48 Pro to run their IP phones and whatnot. Now they have a UNVR, UDM Pro, and will have 9+ cameras, 6 are G4 Pros. I'm thinking they're a good candidate for a door system as well.
How do you have an AI Theta camera behind the desk? HIPPA regulations prohibit that as it can pick up personal and private data on computer monitors. for the door access, is that a back door to the office, or the network room? Did you install the emegency push to exit system too for fire code? Also for fire code in your area, are you allowed to power fail CLOSED for the lock, or do you have to power fail to OPEN?...actually, nevermind on thqat, lol, the push bar meets that requirement where in an emergency users can push bar to open door leaving the mag lock fail CLOSED for security.
With any Unifi camera you can have privacy zones so it totally blocks out certain areas ( like computer screens). For Unifi access there is a push paddle on the door so you can always exit no matter what. We never install maglocks but if you do you most definitely need to have some fail safe set
I have seen that you have used other brand cameras. How do you know when to user Ubiquiti and when to use other brand cameras? It is because the user asked you for it or did you recommend it to him?
Why did you put on the strain relief with the cable ties that early, even before you installed the keystone modules? What do you do, of the keystone Module took too much or too less cable? The keystone would not fit anymore into the patch panel
What do you think of the ai 360s vs the ai theta. Just did a install with 7 360s and maybe the theta would’ve looked cleaner. I know night vision is bad on the theta and without many reviews I didn’t want to risk it long term.
The view on both are great imo. I like with the theta you get two lenses one for 360 and one for wide angle if you want. In saying that I love the AI360 and we are adding one to this site as well. For the reception area the AI Theta just looked a lot better ( in this setting anyways)
HDMI over Cat 6 is so much more reliable than HDMI extenders, once you break 50ft you either need HDMI over fiber or CAT6, you can alternatively inject 5v into HDMI over 50ft for the signal to reach, but not really an ideal solution.
Yep. I had to install one of those about a month ago at one of the schools I work at. We got a new interactive display to install and the existing HDMI run apparently failed while we were testing it. It was easily a 25 ft run. We happened to have an HDMI over CAT6 extender and a direct ethernet connection from a nearby wall port to where the display was. Only issue is there were 2 ethernet cables dangling from the ceiling tile and of course, they weren't labeled.
@@MactelecomNetworks yeah it's really useful for long distance, just two little converter boxes on each end. At 30ft though it's not necessary I've only found a need for it going over 50ft
@@MactelecomNetworks Awesome man! Looking to start a similar business after about a decade as a network engineer and building automation engineer. Thanks for your videos, they are great!
I had a question where are you getting the wires at for the half of feet or 1 foot? They used in rackmount the connect from that black box to the unify switch it or do you hand make them
4:40 the access points are pretty close, do you enable fast roaming? Bevore i had it not enabled and my wlan call dropped and switched to normal phone mode when it switched from one ap to another, but since i enabled fast roaming, no drops or switching to normal phone mode during talking.

If I have 6 POE devices (cameras and intercom) over 80m away from the main switch should I run 6 long cables or use small switches at some point in the middle to reduce the cables heading to the main switch?
New sub here. Great content. Great explanations and super-clean installs. It should be you with 15 mil subs, not the Linus guy. Food for thought to consider going forward. We are fast getting to the point where camera resolution will be sufficient to capture details in documentation (either on paper or computer screens) to the point that it is considered PHI (protected health information) as per HIPAA. Storage of PHI opens up a whole can of worms, and the fines for violating HIPAA are mindblowing. This is unlikely to be an issue for the current gen of Unifi Protect cams. But no question it becomes an issue within two years. Bottom line is that I wouldn't want to be the test case.
Doesn't the two switches need a link between them in case of failure of one switch or for quick transport if someone need to talk with something and can move from switch to switch. I'm simply just asking as I normally work with cisco

They have a big ups that they provided ( not rackmountable)

The lock is just an electric strike that is connected to the Unifi access hub to get power 12v. The network is connected to a UPS in case of power failure
I wouldn't wire both switches to the UDM (like a top of rack switch). It's the weakest switch in the setup and doesn't even support RSTP.
Well that’s good to know I had no clue RSTP wasn’t supported! Thanks you :)
Can you show the process of running cables in a business unit?
