    Nice to see Starlo back to the beach with the basic guides. I learn from his T.V. shows in Rex Hunt Fishing Adventure 20 years ago, that when I caught my FIRST Bream in Fremantle, Perth.

    On Ya Starlo ! Great video showing that you don't need super heavy gear for surf fishing. Great stuff ! Cheers, Gavin

    Gday .. where do you attach the leader first ? to the braid itself further up the line by a knot . or at the swivel . and the braid attaches to swivel as well

    If I was to beach for Whiting what type of rod and gear would I need? Im not looking to catch big fish, mostly whiting. Thanks.
    I would shop from BCF I think.

    • @ShimanoAustralia
      @ShimanoAustralia  5 років тому +3

      Hi Dean, if you're just chasing whiting on light gear I would suggest a light rod around the 9'-12' mark and a 2500-3000 sized reel with 12-15lb braid.
      While that still might be a bit much for whiting, it'll handle a majority of by-catch you may come across at the beach.

      7-9’ rod 2-4 kg
      2000-3500 rod
      10lb braid
      15lb leader
      6lb snells
      Lightest running sinker that works

    Im using braid, any tips for what to use to stop the ball sinker running up the leader and onto my braid? it gets caught on my FG (thinking of swapping out my braid for mono so this isnt a problem, cheers)

    • @ShimanoAustralia
      @ShimanoAustralia  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Tom, run the leader from your FG to a swivel. Tie it on with a uni knot, then tie more leader on the other side. Put the sinker on this side and the swivel will stop it running up your line!

    • @Telecaster-uz9pu
      @Telecaster-uz9pu 3 роки тому

      @@ShimanoAustralia thanks fro the reply. If I do this I would then need to add one more swivel to prevent the sinker making contact with the hook, so id have 2 swivels in the rig essentially?

    • @ShimanoAustralia
      @ShimanoAustralia  3 роки тому +1

      @@Telecaster-uz9pu Yeah would be best! Alternatively, you could even run a patanosta rig set up, but that's more for heavier sinkers.

    • @Telecaster-uz9pu
      @Telecaster-uz9pu 3 роки тому

      @@ShimanoAustralia yeah I go the pat sometimes. Was hoping to find a solution where I didn't have to use 2 swivels. Maybe just a very long leader after the FG perhaps. Cheers

    • @ShimanoAustralia
      @ShimanoAustralia  3 роки тому

      @@Telecaster-uz9pu you could also try sinker stoppers as opposed to swivels.

    And when is the best time to beach fish with the tide?

    • @chrispac6264
      @chrispac6264 2 роки тому

      Catch your worms 1 hour either side the low tide
      Look for Channels, holes and gutters at low tide. Berley consistently from the time you arrive.
      Fish the incoming tide. Use the fish you catch as bait once you run out of worms or want to target a larger species.
