Thank you!! I hace a Whirlpool WTW4816FW2 that was making a nonstop grinding-like sound. It was like it was trying to sense the load but the barrel wasn’t moving. If I moved the barrel manually by hand, the sound stopped but as soon as I stopped moving it, the sound would start again. It persisted even through unplugging the unit and leaving it unplugged for several minutes. When I would plug it in, after a few moments the sound would start back up. I finally got the sound to stop by holding down the start button for a few moments, but the unit would not function or respond at all. I found this video and went through all three steps, and it worked! The washer is working now, so far without any issues. Thank you very much for saving me money by avoiding a service call.

Edited: Included the video's instructions and labeled it Step 0. Thanks @alleyfox9917!
Initially I couldn't get it to work, but after some digging online your instructions are correct but there's also a cadence to it!
Step 0: Fully rotate the dial counter-clockwise and leave the dial at the 12 o'clock position.
When ready, you must do the following steps below WITHIN 6 seconds:
    1. Clockwise one click, wait half a second.
    2. Clockwise one click, wait half a second.
    3. Clockwise one click, wait half a second.
    4. COUNTER-clockwise one click, wait half a second.
    5. Clockwise one click, lights should turn on.

THANK! YOU! Your fixes worked perfectly ...after walking through the initial reset - no luck, the recalibration - no luck, your final suggestion of the rapid succession of 6 door lift/close within 12 seconds was the charm! Instantly reset everything and the cycles restored to normal operation!! I just saved the cost [and time] of an appliance man coming over, let alone assuming that I needed to replace my machine [a set so it would have been both washer and dryer together!] and besides I just love this current set which I have and would have hated to part with it. Immense Thank you!!

This helped me, at least a little bit. I have a similar Whirlpool compared to what you show in the video. In fact almost the exact type and model. Anyway I just went through a devil of a time--as you may be aware, their defaults, when things aren't working proper, is to drain. Well we have a pipe issue in our basement where after a few seconds the water starts to come back up from the outlet where the washing machine is draining. So we have to "babysit" and hit the stop button repeatedly. However, when this machine (again similar to what you show) feels like something is screwing up, you can't stop it with the button, you have to unplug!
Then when it plugs back in, it still wants to empty. So unplug, unplug etc. Anyyyhoooo. Long story short, here's what I just went through : THE DOOR LATCH WAS STUCK AND NOT IN THE PROPER POSITION. Our Whirlpool wasn't wanting to run a cycle proper because it couldn't "read" or "feel" or whatever word you want to use, that the close down top door was locked proper. Guess how long it took me to figure this out? Two hours. (sigh) But to your credit, I WAS able to start the diagnostic cycle. It's just that after flashing from green light to green light like in a traveling carnival or a malfunctioning traffic light, our machine didn't DO a diagnostic. Why? Because the lid wasn't locking.

Thank you so much for providing these videos, I really appreciate it! I can't afford a repair person to come fix it. I like to try every thing possible myself first. Thanks again for all that you do! :)

Great video. I’ve tried these step several time but each time I only get the red flashing lid light. Any suggestions ? Is my lid mechanism malfunctioning? Any help / suggestions appreciated

Excellent video Ben - We just got a new top load Whirlpool Model WTW4855HW3. The machine is filling to a ridiculously low level even if set to Deep Water wash. The wash cycle also seems very short. I'll try your reset although no parts have changed and hope that works.
Would you have any suggestions if the reset doesn't do the trick? Thanks again & much appreciated.

This was very helpful, thank you. My machine still will not spin while rinsing. You mentioned that there were other codes to try. May I please know where to get those procedures? Thanks.

Thank you, I couldn't get it to go into diagnostic mode, so I though I needed another system board. You showed me the key was to go vertical, power it off, then power it on and do the rest of the steps.

Do you mean turn dial vertical unplug then plug in and go through rest of steps

So I'm at a loss. I recalibrated it, step for step. It did exactly what you showed. I then go to wash a load on delicate and it won't sense the load, just put water in and after a few minutes just shut off.
