How to Replace Newer Whirlpool Top Load Washer Lid Lock and Fix Lid Striker Issue (W11307244)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 лип 2024
- If you have a Whirlpool-style topload washer and bought a new lidlock for it, chances are it doesn't install the same way many videos describe - there's no screws to take out or put in. Even worse, if you figure out how to install the lock correctly, the striker may not go down into the new latch, preventing the machine from running at all.
In this video, both the installation and striker issue are addressed. I hope this video helps you!

Replacement Door Lock for this model (if you broke it accidently!): bens-appliances.com/products/w11307244-whirlpool-washer-lid-lock-assembly?_pos=2&_sid=8c696cddb&_ss=r
There are 3-4 other models of door locks, make sure you pick the right one, but the link is for this exact style (black lock, white top piece).
Thank you so much for posting that link that was huge... It's a lot more confusing than you would think. For such a simple part, so you're opposed cleared it right up... I had the old original part number
Awesome job for some special insight, thanks much
Bro.. I’m 21yrs old, working minimum wage, and just broke my family’s washer lol. I’ve been back and forth with how to replace the lock and you’ve literally saved my life, soul, and mental stability 😂 thank you is such an understatement- you are now forever my big brother, I coming back here if I ever need more advice on appliances
Glad it helped!
That’s awesome! Great job

Hehe this is cute. I’m 51 years old and while suffering from a menopause angry episode alone at home, I broke my washer 😂 oh dear! I’m doing this thing now.. Wish me luck!
Update: an hour later it’s fixed and doing laundry already yay! What a relief! Only spend the money for the part. Lifesaver for sure. Thanks Ben!
Ben thank you for all your insight and helping me avoid another 75.00 + tech payment. Your are awesome at explaining details!
After repairman was unable to fix then watching a number of videos, I finally found yours which helped me to unlock the door lock. Very helpful and easy to follow!!!
This sounds like the problem I currently have. I can't get the lid to unlock. It is stuck in locked mode and whether it is plugged in or not the lid won't open. I was hoping there was something in this video that would mention how to get the lock to let go. There's no line to pull as it is a top loader. What did you do?
Holy cow I could hug you!! I replaced the part but the striker would never let the lid close. I tried too many times and I broke it. Had to reorder the part.
You are an absolute life saver Ben. Got a door strike and load/lock mechanism ordered, eager to finish this quick fix.
Lid lock reset tip saved my life twice now, thank you!
Thanks for this video. I watched most of it and got the switch in, and I was just about to start the Amazon return process because it wasn't working. Then I thought "maybe I should watch THE REST of the video." 😅 It's working great. 👌🏿
Broke my lock, ordered this part, got it in 24 hours, washing machine is fixed. Install Video is great. Will purchase and use these videos in the future!
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! I followed your video and was able to replace my Maytag washer lid lock with no problem. Note ~ I am 65 yr woman who is trying to save money on home repairs. You are very detailed in your step by step video. I even had the lock problem at the end of installation and followed your steps to fool the machine back to order. Thank you for your expertise and sharing!
Thank you so much for your explanation. I thought I found a good diy, but the left out the removal of the lock. I hunted more videos and they said to remove screws. Then I finally found yours. After much torque, we finally got it out. And with nearly as much effort got the new one in. I appreciate your explanation!!! Thanks so much!!
After waiting around for maintenance to fix me washer for three weeks this video helped me to just buy the part and install myself in under 30 mins. Thank you so much!!
Glad it helped
Ben I sent you an email
Ben, I could not have done this without you, especially the lid lock removal from the washer body and the lid latch trick at the end. Thanks.
Awww thanks, comments like this make my day! I made this video because I broke one trying to get it off and didn't realize how it worked. Older-styles just had a screw that you removed and it came off, so this was a HUGE difference and they still make them this way, despite the video being 4yrs old.
Thank the stars we found your video! My husband just stuck his hand under the lid and felt around for a few seconds and we had a closed lid!! You are amazing!
Worked like a charm! Thanks for your easy to follow and thorough breakdown! I hit no snags!
I watched someone else’s video claiming it was same model but he gave incorrect step to even get the top off! You saved the day!
Thank you very, very much. I almost broke the replcement part until I saw your video. Realized the replacement part is a single piece. After watching your video it took me about twenty minutes to finish the job.. :)
Thank you for this video it helped us replace the locking mechanism in our washing machine. Our washer was somewhat different but came apart easily with your instructions. My brother was impressed that when he got the back plates off I just tugged on the top and it went right up! He was dreading some massive tear it all apart and rebuild it project and it went much easier than either of us expected.
Thank You, Repair man was going to charge $260. with part. We bought the part online for $50. With this video it was and easy fix. Thanks you saved my elderly mother $210. Thanks
Awesome! These new-style locks are really easy to replace *once you destroyed one before learning*. The old style required screwdrivers and the like to get it installed. These don't take screws, but will install/remove faster... Once you figure it out. Very fusterating!
Best video on the subject! I've bee watching countless videos and this is the first one showing exactly how to remove the kind of lock I have; thank you for your helpful video!
Just wanted to give you a huge THANK YOU for this video!!! This fix saved me from getting a brand new washer. Keep up the good work!! 👍
Thank you for all the information. I was able to buy the parts and replace myself . My estimate for the repair was $350 but the repairman said it could go up to $400, a new washer is $550. The part's cost $69 original equipment. You helped me save at least $300 Thank You
And there's no need to go with original manufacturer parts. An aftermarket switch for $15 will work just as well.
@@andyb9378 you never know. I replaced the solenoid assembly for the water input on mother in laws and it went out already. Then, because it was on and water was not flowing to keep the system cool, it burned up the main board. It could have burned the house down. Maybe I should have ordered OE?
That's why I found this video now. Someone put this machine on the sidewalk for free. Only because the lid switch went out. Getting that thing off the lid was making me scratch my head. Now I also know how to put it back together properly, so it doesn't stay locked.
But, I'm not saying you are wrong 100%. Usually cheap aftermarket parts work fine.
You saved my bacon. Thank you so much for explaining how to push the white switch, start the unit. And wait until the lid lock released and allowed the lid to close again. Wow.
Thank you so much! Every Kenmore video I searched was a different kind of lid lock assembly and I could not figure out for the life of me how to remove the actual switch from the lid housing. Thank you thank you.
This was perfect for my problem. You even addressed the lid malfunction I had at the end. I was sure I was doing something wrong and would have to spend hundreds to have someone come fix it. Your video sorted it out.
Used this video today to install this and just wanted to say thank you!!! Took less than an hour and everything works again! Appreciate the help!
My Whirlpool washer craped out 2 weeks ago. The repair found that the switch was not available. B.S.!!!! I ordered a one from
Whirlpool. It will be here 3/3/21. I was going to call the repair guy and have him install it. Don't have to now thanks to Ben.
Saved me $100.00. Thank you Ben for this excellent how to video.
There's a nationwide shortage on most lid locks and many other parts at the moment. Way to go if you found one because I cant
@@bensappliancesandjunk
The lid lock I bought from Whirlpool cost $106.13. Gotta pay the price if you need one.
THANK YOU, I recently bought a lightly used washer and it was damaged in transit (my fault) determined the lock was broke and while replacing it couldn't figure it out. This video helped a wash load! Thank you!
Thank you so much for a clear and concise tutorial! Our new part came in today and we are gonna try and tackle this later.
Best video yet. I had everything except for the lid removal. Thanks for posting. Working on the Amana washer.
Glad it helped you out a lot!
I was having trouble with the Lid Lock when the washer at my home was giving trouble for the first time. Luckily, this video gives great detail about the lid lock that saved my family from spending too much money. Thank you for this! I appreciate it a lot.
Glad it helped! I destroyed one of these locks the first time I had to put one on, so I figured making the video would help others to not make the same mistake.
@@bensappliancesandjunk The issue I'm having after following your video is that the lid still won't stay locked. Should I order another replacement part?
@@christinemccallum6111 I'd recalibrate the machine
You Ben, are one of my favorites youtubers of all time, well explained, very clear and through video, I wish to have your contact so I could ask you different things on other machines, thanks for being such a nice human being
Hey man..
You're the BEST. you got to the point plain and simple and on the newer machine.. God bless you.. You're the MAN.👍🏾👍🏾
Been using my washer for 3 Months since I found this video. I noticed that sometimes the latch does not unlock at the end of the cycle. Since fixing my own for $95 part, I have found 2 free washers with the same issue. The owners told me their washer would not unlock without pulling on the lid even when done. This breaks the washer lid lock. I suspect somewhere in the board there is a flaw that does not unlock the lid when done. Possibly a safety sensor not recognizing drum has stopped. btw thanks to this video I will never have to pay for a new washer again. I will just pick up other peoples broken Maytag Bravos.
Thank you so much for this. That last part about the lid striker issue saved me! I was getting close to filing the latch down to make it fit! Thankfully I found your vid first!
Thank-you! Especially the part at the end about the lid not shutting! We're back up and running again!
What happens if you’ve replaced all these parts and it just clicks and won’t allow itself to lock?
I don't know how to thank you. This video was so helpful to replace the lid lock. Thank you and God bless!
Thank you for this, my dip stick of a sibling got mad at the washer and broke the lock. Now i have to replace the load sensor (what was initially wrong) AND the lock. With this video and the other i saved so much money thank to you. Thank you so much.
Awesome! These new locks are easy to do ONLY if you've seen it done before. I destroyed one of these ($55) because I had no clue how they worked
And that’s exactly why I’m here 😩.... I got mad and broke the lock. “Hold for 3 seconds to pause or cancel”, except my washer could care less how long you hold it... it does whatever it wants.
Thank you for uploading this video. As I just finished repairing my washer thanks to you. 🙏🏼‼️
Glad I could help! I destroyed one of these locks early on trying to figure it out, so this was one of the first fix-it videos I wanted to do, because there isn't a ton of documentation on how to replace the lid lock on the newer units
This is like my 50th video to watch. Finally a lid lock that looks like mine! Thanks!
Perfect video. I ordered the part and had no trouble following your directions.
This definitely worked for my whirlpool washer and appreciate u for uploading this video. Thank you so much
Thank you for this. I’ve been looking for a video on how to replace the locking mechanism on my whirlpool washer for a while now. This is the first one I found that completely explains how to do thanks!
Thats exactly why I did the video. I RUINED one of these trying to figure it out, then saw someone mention how it was done, solved it, and turned it into a video.
@@bensappliancesandjunk That's what makes "people helping people" so awesome!
Thank you so much for the video! I was able to change my lid lock mech and unlock it so my clothes will be clean again! Great explanation, especially the part about unlocking the mech at the end.
You.made this a very easy repair for me. I forgot the putty knife and left the control panel on. Even easier.
Thank you for a great and thorough video. It’s very empowering when you’re able to fix something yourself (with your guidance). Thank you again!!!
This saved me so much money! My husband knew I could do it. Thank you
Gotta give thanks. I got the part and you saved a service call
AWESOME! I don't know much about fixing washing machines, but with your video, I was able to replace a lid-lock on an Amana Mod. NTW4516FW3
Every step was easy to understand and saved me a lot of time and frustration.
Mine is stuck in lock mode what should I do
just picked up my first dryer today! Thanks for the inspiration
Hope it turns out well for you!
So how did it go?
Thank you sir! This is the best how-to I've found to fix this issue.
Broke one trying to figure it out once. Swore I'd try to prevent it from someone else lol
How do I bypass the lidlock
I used a screw driver to break mine loose from the top. Cracked open the switch housing. Get to the switch and use zip ties on the two sliding parts to keep them locked down. My switch was all busted up and it still worked. I zip tied the whole unit under where the hole is, and took out the connector on the lid with an allen wrench.
Thank you bud. Saving the everyday homeowner(:
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS WELL EXPLAINED AND THROUGH VIDEO!!!!
I changed my inlet valve thinking that was the problem but nothing got fixed. I then changed the actuator but nothing happened and finally I went ahead and changed the lock. Everything started working as if the machine was new. All three parts under $100 for a washer to function like brand new is heck of a deal.
Thank you!! I swapped mine out no problem following this video!
Cross your fingers, I bought the part. I'm going in 🤞
So so helpful!!! Only cost us $30 to fix our washer!!!
I have the exact problem with the old striker fitting in to the new mechanism.
I’ll let you know how it goes. Thank you
What if it still doesn’t work after successfully installing the new lock? Help.. my Mom forcibly opened it when it was locked.
Great video and precise explanations! Thank you.
Thank you you are the only video that had the extra step of unlocking the lid after install
Yep. Thats why I made the video. I realized everyone was missing this step. The old locks didnt have this problem.
Thanks Ben.
Your video helped me to repair that lid striker problem.
Very good video and clear on explaining what to do!
Thank you!
Thanks so much for this easy to follow video.
Thank you. That was very informative, easy to follow and not too much info. Recommend you get a camera person in the future.
I made this video almost a year ago. I have a much different setup for videos than I did then.
Great video, installed everything easily, but top will still not latch, what could I be missing
Simply wonderful! Thanx
Came from your brothers channel. I Think its suppper awesome what you are doing! im 19 and I own a vending machine business in Houston Texas.

Very Helpful!! Thank you!!
Thank you very much. This was perfect. Exactly what I needed, and exactly how to do the repair. Thank you thank you! Saved me a lot of money and hassle.
Thank you, i'm getting ready to tackle this exact project on this exact washer
Thank you brother, this was very helpful.
Thank god!!! My hubby won't fix shit so I'm have to do it...no way I'm buying a new washer after on 4 years...this is the exact model I have and I really needed this...as I have a load of very pricey clothes sitting in my machine for 24 hours ugh!
hey ben thanks for your videos been very helpful for me on washer repair
Thanks! I am glad they're helping you!
Thank you! You helped me greatly!
Thanks for the video!!
Glad you liked it! I broke one of these lid locks trying to install it before I figured it out and figured the video may help a few people!
Worked perfectly.Thank you!!
Very good directions 👌 thank you
Thanks for showing how to unlock a new switch out of the box.
Great!
Aaaw man I pulled the lid switch from my boneyard and when I show up to resident unit I see she has front load set (ADA Unit)!! 😂 I just reset the lid lock and boom it's done!
whirlpool; anything to make life easier for our customers/ DIY'ers ! Good Grief! I;m keeping my old one from 2013. a simple 10 dollar lid switch and a pain in the A** to adjust the actuator rod to engage it!
Thanks that lid lock push button in and then plug in saved me I though the parts were to small lol thanks alot
Thanks good information and video !
YOU'RE the KING!!!
Thanks a million. Awesome information. My daughter washing machine is working 👍🏽👍🏽
Thanks so much! Great explanation!!!
This was perfect!
I am grateful for this video. I need to replace the striker and the switch on mine. Any way to bypass it until I can get the replacement parts?
Thanks for the video Ben. My Maytag Bravos was fussy with the lid lock. Your video helped me get it out so I could tie it permanently into the locked position. Will be fixing correctly soon. Very poorly made , brittle plastic on theses locks. Don't feel bad if it snaps on you. Seen better material in Happy Meal toys.
They are AWFUL. There's a commercial-grade one Maytag upgraded for these designs... I wish it was on every model. Same price at wholesale. These locks are $50-80 new, and can't be costing them more than $2 to make. They've been making these pieces of garbage since 2009 and they still suck.
@@bensappliancesandjunk Got any idea where I can find the upgraded part #... everyone seems out of stock for part# W10682535
@@soyews nationwide part shortage right now. Its bad. I've had 2 on order to have for spares and they've been on-hold for 2 weeks now. Utter nightmare trying to find Whirlpool parts.
@@bensappliancesandjunk Thanks for your videos , replace the lock lid switch, stumped me for a minute as I did not quite seat the connection on the board all of the way. Old part # was W10682535... new part # is W11307244 . Local independent appliance repair guy had one for $90 . Better plastic case. My washer Model # was MVWX655DW1
Washer is back to work but the latch does not always unlock at end of cycle. Wife was just pulling up on lid till it released. Bad idea. I noticed if I turn off the washer the lid latch releases.
Best video but I still can not get that 2nd white piece out so I can replace the new single unit.
Thanks for the video
Yeah this video helped me fix my lid lock problem
You are doing God’s work. Thank you!
Hey thank you great help
Glad it helped
Thanks for showing me how to replace mine Was slightly different than yours but same way to replace.
yes yes yes, that did it thank you. the lid lock was engaged and the trick at 6:41 fixed it. now my only question is do i pay myself the $80 it wouldve been to call someone or what do i do with the $80?
Nice job with this.
Life saver thank you
Hi Ben,...
So at 2:55 in the vid you got the blue, red, & white on the plug.
So which two do you use a jumper\bypass on so the machine thinks its a loop to the lid (closed lid) but really stops at that point?
I don't have kids so I don't need the feature.
A jumper WILL NOT WORK on this style washer. The control board will pulse a close/open command to the locking feature, and if it does not pass that test (as showing always closed), it simply will throw out an error code, and not work.
I did make another video on how to do a quasi-bypass on these style units though: ua-cam.com/video/Rl7CtBqB9U8/v-deo.html
I love the video you made. I changed the lid lock switch but i didn't press on the switch like you did toward the end of the video and my switched burned again. Im not too sure if that lack of a final step is what caused it
I don't think that would cause it to short and explode. Its possible, but very unlikely. Pressing on the switch would lock it properly in place, not cause the wires to short. You may have gotten a defective lid lock. or at least, that's what I'd tell the company you bought from and request a replacement.
@@bensappliancesandjunk
You're right, i bought another switch and this time it burned out along with a circuit on the board, namely the r050 circuit. I guess I'll buy another washer since the board is half the price of a new washer lol
@@josepalacios627 wow I'm sorry to hear that
