David Draiman...a voice to die for! A powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to rasp/distortion/vocal fry and back on a dime. He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before.....just hauntingly beautiful and pure tonal properties to it! An awesome talent and obvious training to deliver what he does!! Can sing like an angel or the devil ! Loved your reaction and your take on David's performance Fahimmuchi !! Try "Deceiver", "The Night", "Indestructible", "The Light", "Violence Fetish" and "Enough" by Disturbed too. They are a "bit" heavier.....lol....but think you'll enjoy!

4:54 gives me the chills every time. Such a soft and warm tone in the beginning, that builds to a point where the hair on the back of my neck stands up. The Almighty truly granted David an incredible gift.
Very well done, man. As a guy who knows very little about music/vocals, I'm very impressed by folks who can analyze and evaluate other singers, especially being able to point out specific notes they hit.
Draiman was severely sick with the flu when he performed this, imagine if he wasn't....all I can say. My father introduced me to the original and only WISH he was still here to listen to this version...He was ALL man, and the original could bring him close to tears, i can only imagine if he could have heard this version.

Cheezsoup it was used in a couple places but David told the sound engineers to NOT use it because he has always said “if you can’t sing it live, don’t record it” you can also see that in the first few seconds of the song, he looks over and scowls at the tech. They did an interview and David said he’d never perform on that show ever again because they used it when he clearly didn’t want them to. I think he even got up and walked out of the interview because he was so pissed.

Wow! This video is incredible and I'm not speaking of Disturbed, I'm speaking of the reaction video itself. I didn't hear David Draiman sing until 3 minutes in and only heard anything when the reactor spoke. For a brief minute I heard Disturbed sing but that was it. I'm heartbroken.
Trained as a Cantor in the jewish synagogue. Awesome performer. As good live as in studio. Saw this performed in Kansas City with 50k of my closest friends.

You need to watch the official video. The producers used auto-tune against his wishes. He was very unhappy with the sound.
I dont believe this is accurate. I saw an interviewer ask him if he used autotune and he laughed, said he hears this all the time, that he doesnt need it and just go to a concert and hear him if you doubt that.
So if you have a reliable source for your statement, I'd love to hear it.
@@garrett6064 That was the whole point Amy was making actually. Disturbed/David Draiman _doesn't_ normally use autotune; in fact, they quite dislike the very idea of using it, from what I understand. However, for this performance it was the sound engineers of the Conan show that determined whether or not to use autotune and since David had been sick that day they _were_ going to use autotune. _Against_ David's wishes, as Amy pointed out.

This song is being sung by a Jewish man. The original was also sung by Jewish men. The original is performed with a subtle warning, while the remake is more profound and urgent. Jews are the chosen people of God whom he revealed himself to first, it was their voice that was to shine the light of God's truth on the nations that they might be saved. But, his beloved people rebelled against him and through their fall salvation was offered to the Gentiles to provoke them to jealousy. I find it very appropriate that God is using the voice of his chosen people to reveal his warning to the nations...over 300,000,000 views :) LOVE IT! God is brilliant!
One like myself who has heard God's words and believed on his promise can fall into fear when sharing his gospel of reconciliation because people can become very angry when faced with his truth, even close loved ones can turn on you with hate towards you. But, if we remain in silence because of fear the world will not hear WHAT Christ has done FOR US to be reconciled to the Father! It has been given to me TO GIVE to the lost who have not yet heard his voice to believe his words unto salvation!

Dude had a flu when he sang this, too.
When this song first came out, E2 was my lowest note (when I was WELL warmed up). Since then, I've discovered the a capella group, Home Free, and more specifically, their Bass, Tim Faust. I can now go to C1 and I'm still working. I'm also expanding my upper level. Now up to B4 before I have to switch.
If you're interested, start with their song, Honey I'm Good. Tim does some sick low notes towards the end.
After that, their version of Auld Lange Sine is nothing short of breath taking!

Great reaction. I love the technical breakdown of the voice. I would love to see you react to Home Free. They are an acapella country group, but the vocals are awesome and the harmonies are fantastic! Plus, the bass in the group, Tim Foust, has insane range, something like A0-A5. Take a look at their channel and find a song that appeals to you. Helplessly hoping, how great thou art, and ring of fire are some of my favorites. Plus, several people put together vocal range videos of Tim Foust, demonstrating his unbelievable range. Thanks!

Normally I hate reactions that interrupt the song over and over, most especially this song. I have to say though that it did not bother me here because this was the most informative video I have ever seen by a vocal coach. Great job and thank you. :) If you can get around to it I would be interested in your reaction to Disturbed's The Light official video.

well done - by far the most intelligent comments yet of the hundreds who are on here "reacting"
my initial reaction was meh - the power in the voice is of course authentic and sustaining - however - I think no one has yet commented on "the sound of jarring" - when someone - anyone - sings a single word like "without" as "WITH - HOUT warning" - I pause and somehow that just does not sound melodic to ME - there is a distinctive jarring pause step there in the doublet pronunciation and for me it is even worse when the emphasis comes on the second part as "with-HOUT warning" as he exhales harder on the second part - I think a great(er) singer could sing this just as powerfully without the with-HOUT in a single drawn out exhale and I would critique this and other similar words he sings like this in the song that are sung as such - there are other phrases that he absolutely nails - I like the rich raw raspy power but .... MY first impression was not OMG - it was meh - still it is overall a good-great vocal performance but if I was teaching him how to sing I would have him work on making words like "without" sound more like "WI-thout warning" where you emphasise the WI and drag out the thout to avoid the step with-HOUT that comes out of his mouth with too strong emphasis on HOUT - he does the same thing with "might reach you" - it comes out as "mi-HIGHT reach you " and sounds way wrong to my ear - it would be better to me as a single exhale "MI-ight reach you" with the ight drawn out rather than stepped with second hard emphasis - another word he fluffs in my opinions is "WAH-HUS listening" it would have sounded much better as WA-ahs with the ahs drawn out and connected melodically in a single exhaling - he tends to double exhale when he is doing this with the first part short light and controlled but the second part does not sound as controlled but rather pushed and forced as he tries to keep the power in his voice by using a heavy exhaling ... those are the things I would correct - surprised no one else including vocal coaches have mentioned this - I would not consider this something a professional singer or coach would not notice and correct - but OK the guy is a heavy metal rock singer not an operatic - thing is he HAS the voice to go there so he should train with a better vocal coach and then after 1 year sing this song again and you would definitely notice a difference - he would no longer make these amateur mistakes that tend to distract from all the other things he is doing so well - the initial opening verses are also perhaps too quiet and somewhat muffled - he might have cleaned that up a bit with slightly higher volume - THAT is what I reacted to on my first listen

If you haven’t already, I’m pretty sure you need to check out Homefree!! Tim Foust is a 5+ octave super bass! A good song to check out first would be Ring is Fire and you NEED good headphones for the best effect, as most speakers can’t even pick up some of his bass because it’s so low; he has even blown speakers at events! The rest of the group is just as amazing. 😉

I realise this is over a year old but if you do get to read this please get some "Headphones". You must know that Headphones enable you to hear Everything, some sounds start in one ear then move over to the other & then merge in the middle of your head. Bass sounds so much better too. HP's enable you to hear & appreciate every subtleness of a song-vocally & instrumentally. Great reaction, thumbs up for your analysis of this song.
