Never understood that, especially on a mauser, a drop of epoxy holds it in place then mark with a transfer punch, knock it off & drill & tap, you could just about eyeball it and get it right
Yea It looks like someone removed it and tried to fill in the holes towards the rear of the barrel. Next step is to repair the sight bases that were not drilled properly in line with the barrel.

Good video I chambered up a new barrel to a 721 Remington this last winter I took the extractor plunger out while I was checking the headspace

Great basic checking of headspace, how about doing one on re barrel a FAL and clocking barrel, setting headspace.
