    My Granny had Guineas and she would say, 'wanna see the Guineas get upset? I'd say yep siree and she'd go put on her blue with white polka dot dress on and stand in the window ... The Guineas would pitch a fit and Granny would laugh then go take her dress off and put on her work clothes... Ahhh The Mountains of WVA was my home growing up... :) .

      My WV granny had guineas also and I hated to hear them hollering which my granny called “pot rackin” but now that I’m older and fighting a tick infestation I’m ready to get guineas on the farm for pest control their noise will be a small price to pay for the job they do

    I had a Guinea show up at my home a year ago. I love her. She sets off a loud alarm like screech when she sees a snake. She recently chased off a solicitor that came in my yard. It was hilarious!! The best watch dog anyone could have. 😃

    They will turn a pot of rice yellow as butter and unlike a chicken, a guinea is all dark meat. They're delicious. I've only been able to talk my mom into sacrificing 2 for supper in my life. She's always had them and I'm 47 yrs old, that might give you a hint of how much she loves her guineas! Lol. I agree with it all. Tyfs and God bless.

    Great piece about guineas. We had gotten handful from neighboring rancher, way back in 80s, but they were grown. They would roost in huge oak by barn . But after couple weeks, they decided to go back home & we never tried again. So, i like your advice & stories about them. Thanks for sharing

    I'll have to show how I do my guineas. 😉 I have 17 guineas, not fully mature just yet, but they are all free ranging now, only getting fed at night in their coop where I lock them up at night. I didn't want guineas, but I didn't want ticks more. With 35+ acres for them to roam, they are not a problem.

    We have four guineas and enjoy their unique personalities. Ours are pretty loud (you hear them a lot in our videos) but I think it’s cool and makes the farm sound come alive since we don’t currently have a rooster.

    You said guineas hens abandon thier eggs, so that you incubate their eggs for them... question ,,,how about sneaking the Guineas eggs into the chicken coop?,,will the chicken hens sit on the ginnea eggs untill the Guineas chicks hatch out? Thank you. Your smiles and laughter made my day happy. =)

    • @ligaskirbauska8652
      @ligaskirbauska8652 3 роки тому +1

      Generally chickens are good incubating other species eggs,ducks,goose even some reptiles...if eggs are too big,small,diferente from their own eggs some chicks can ignore those eggs,but in general they just incubate...still chickens are not as efficient as incubators,cos they need to stand up,go eat and so on,some eggs are more susceptible for tiny temperature changes and it’s more guarantee to get more success with incubator,that’s why those are used

    • @TheFoolintherainn
      @TheFoolintherainn 3 роки тому

      @@ligaskirbauska8652 if they don't like the size of the egg, may not hatch it.

    Your videos are so fun! Chicken on shoulder, goat biting legs, and goat jumping on you back. My husband and I use to raise white guinies, and the most beautiful thing I have ever seen is when they have their little white fluffy babies, they would look like little snowballs with feet walking behind them. Yes guinie makes a great guinie bog (guinie and rice). Thats what we call it in South Carolina. We also say: that it sounds like the guinies are always saying "Don't Crank, Don't Crank", especially when you are trying to start your car and it won't crank. Lol Tfs

    • @StiversHomestead
      @StiversHomestead  5 років тому

      Haha that’s such an accurate comparison! I bet guinea bob is fantastic! We’ve had chicken bob (North Carolina) so I can just imagine Guinea being even better!

    We got 30 guineas once. Kept them cooped for 3 months. The first time we let them out half took off down the road, and the other half hid in the grass. Collected up the half that were still around. Let them out the next time and they took off. The neighbors would call and tell us that our critters were walking down the road but we could never catch them.

    • @grovermartin6874
      @grovermartin6874 3 роки тому

      We had the same problem. They came back to their pen every night. One night I didn't get the door to their pen open before bedtime (dusk), and they flew up and roosted in the tops of the white pines, though. Some harsh weather was predicted, so I got the tall ladder out and took them one at a time down to their cage. I didn't neglect to open their cage on time again! (There were foxes and raccoons in the area that would nab them at night, which is why the door was kept shut during the day.)
      We got them when they were older (from a guy who was going to shoot them because of the racket), so maybe they just didn't imprint on their property as they would have if we had hatched them there. I did read that they have a 25-mile radius territory. I hope the neighbors appreciated the tick reduction on their properties, lol!

    Loved hearing about Guinnea Hens, but then kept wondering why you weren't showing them.!!!!!
    You're so used to seeing them, you don't realize - most of us have never even seen one up close!
    Then loved that you added in the chicken landing & you reacting, in repeat mode, at the end!
    Had two good laughs over that, but have to go research those hens to see what they look like! Lol.
    You two really enjoy each other, & are making a good life for each other & your kids! I mean the human ones!
    Loved seeing a bit of the new white goats you got from Jess & Miah too! Hope to see more vid of them & the other goats up close, while they're still kinda small, before they're all grown up. They're growing so fast! Seems just a few weeks ago, watched Jess bottle feeding them!

    Absolutely love your video. It's so obvious that you treat your animals like royals. Can't believe how happy your animals look. God bless, they all look amazing.

    I looked for a video about Guineas, because one has suddenly appeared in our yard every day, for about a week. At first we didn't mind, because we love animals. We were surprised because we're not in way out in the country, rather in a typical "neighborhood" setting, so we have no idea where this bird came from. We have a backyard garden and were happy when I read up in them and learned they'd get rid of ticks and bugs, of which we have many. The strange noise we just shrugged off, deciding it was worth the pest control. Here's where it got weird, and I do mean weird. The bird fell in love with my husbands car. We kept seeing it pacing back and forth along the side and wondered why. When evening came, it jumped on the hood and tucked it's head under it's feathers, with plans to sleep there for the night. We went out and shooed it way, NO WAY could we catch it. Believe it or not, it left it's droppings on the window on top of the windshield wipers. Let me tell you, I was shocked! No little pellets either, you would have thought the dog had left it. I promise you, I am not making this up. SO.... the car is now in the garage when not in use, but the bird now and then comes back to the driveway looking for it, while making it's funny sounds. Thanks for clarifying the difference in the sound between the male and female, this one is definitely a female! STRANGE BIRD INDEED!!!!!

    Nice video. Grandparents had them growing up and loved them as a guard dog. They would always make noise when someone came up the road.
