Bro, I'm almost 65 yrs old... most of us are in our 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. Don't let these true classics pass on with us. It's up to you guys to bring it out... expose it to the world of today, and just as important, create and develop new romantic, soulful music for future generations to come! Peace...
I saw them at the New Regal in 1987 when I thought they were OVER THE HILL. Marvin Junior, the world's most phenomenal 2nd tenor/baritone lead singer, held THAT NOTE for 47 seconds! I once held the note for 36 seconds in 2019, but could not continue the song, I was so winded. The mighty, mighty, mighty Dells are the vocal group by whom I measure ALL vocal groups. The quintessential vocal group! The pride and joy of Harvey, Illinois---the baddest group on the planet! You have experienced GREATNESS, IMMORTALITY and PROFOUNDNESS, Youngblood! Keep being great! Thank you. @@@*** Sembene Nathanyahu, author and creator of the future bestseller, "Whisper's Getting Louder" and baritone/2nd tenor lead in the vocal group Black Elegance/the Afrikan Connection, in Chicago. ***@@@
Yasssssssssssssssssssss nephew! Your reaction to this classic just gave me life! You really have a ear for music - it's a gift! Thanks for appreciating Soul and the power it brings!
See how different this days were when singing love songs??? They don't make them like this anymore..with the exveption of Anderson paak and bruno mars leave the door open...but this is a lifetime classic..enjoy it
Totally agree with you @ Luz Lopez. Was just talking about Bruno Mars/ Anderson paak the other day. I think they’re as close as we can get these days to this.Glad I was here to experience the high quality and abundance of talent back in the day.
That was my Mother's favorite song, she would put it on the record player and she and my dad would slow dance to it. They're gone now, but this brings back so many good memories. Thank you Twon.
This is definitely one of the best reaction videos that I've seen yet!!! You mentioned independent singers, check out, Terry Huff and Special Delivery!! The track is called, "The Lonely One!!!" Awesome vocals!!!!!
Before The Temptations blew us away with a mind-blowing collection of great singers and harmonic milestones, this "blue light in the basement" Classic, "Stay in My Corner" is a soulful operatic triumph. To dare and release a single over 6 minutes at that time when 2-3 minutes was the maximum/normal length of a programmable radio edit in the 60s, proved everyone wrong that when something this is great.......time is irrelevant. A magnificient vocal showcase and Charles Stepney's equally stunning production and arrangement.
Oh. My. God. One of my Father’s favorite songs, and you reacted to on his birthday. He has passed, and I play this “for him” when I am missing him most. am happy, crying, and am speechless. Thank you and bless you, Twon. ❤️🙏
A few more groups to check out THE PLATTERS,THE DRIFTERS, THE DELFONICS THE TEMPTATIONS,SMOKEY ROBINSON AND THE MIRACLES… Just to name a few from that ERA of good soul music…So go ahead and go back…WAY back and enjoy the SOUNDS OF OF THE PAST ERA!!!
this my second time watching your reaction, and you are feeling this song cause the Dells Do Jump ALL OVER THIS song. your end reaction from the LOOOONG NOTE is funny. man alot of artist was EATING! Back in the day. continue to Enjoy🤣🤣🤣😁💪🤜🤛💯
The Dells from Harvey IL, where my late husband's from, (I'm from a neighboring town so The Dells were extra close to our hearts) started singing in high school around 1953 and had a 60 year career until the death of the high voice Johnny in 2009 & Illness forced them to retire. They were inducted into The Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. This song & group will always be a timeless one of a kind. They did many others like "Oh What A Night", "The Love We Had", "Give Your Baby A Standing Ovation" that I know you'd like to hear.
Similar Groups of 60s: The Delfonics (La La La Means I love You), Little Anthony and the Imperials (Going out of My Head and On the Outside Looking In and Tears on my Pillow), The Flamingos (I Only Have Eyes For You), The Platters (Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, Only You).
The musicians back then were like damn Assassins!!!! I’m telling you they weren’t no joke… Brenton Wood Otis Redding The Platters Smokey Robinson Jackie Wilson Sam Cooke… just to name a few. There’s so many to choose from. You WONT REGRET going down that Rabbit hole. Much love
@Sal Ferrer: I Googled the definition of "Slow Dance". How do you explain it to a generation that for the most part wouldn't understand what you stated above Sal. #House Party or The Week-End Dances we attended. Definition: "The "slow dance" is different than the typically upbeat sets enjoyed in the course of the average dance. It allows for a flirty or possibly romantic moment with your partner".
I love this time period, this was when people could SING. No autotune! If they had loud speakers all over playing this music. Everyone would be in too good a mood to fight!!!!! I may have missed it but have you looked at Jackie Wilson - your love keeps lifting me higher, or Solomon Burke - cry to me?
This has been my Jam since it first hit the air waves and at 73, I am still mesmerized by these voices..Marvin takes me to a different place..The Mighty Dells!!
since you picked the dells, now you’ve been tasked with watching “the five heartbeats”. the dells provided their vocals for the soundtrack. awesome movie! we still quote it. “eddie, ain’t you got yo woman in check?” 😆
Twon, there's not much to say! I'm glad you're willing to take the journey, cause there's a lot. But it's a journey worth taking. Others have already mentioned other songs by The Dell's and many others. Young blood, this music you're about to explore is righteous! Enjoy the ride.
That high voice is Johnny Carter & watch the 2nd voice you hear, Marvin Jr., holds the note towards the end! There just ain't nothing you can say!!! LOVE the Dells & you to man for playing it! R.I.P. TO ALL WHO'S GONE. Bless the 2 of you that are still with us!!! Still listening 10.27.24!!!
Try The Stylistics, The Chi-Lites, The Intruders, Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes, Heatwave and Switch are just a few groups you can react to like The Dells. 😁
There is an aussie group called "old 55," featuring Frankie J Holden, from back in the day. They sang a song I love, called "Looking for an Echo," about trying to harmonise, in which they list their inspirational groups. The Moonglows, The Harptones and the Dells. They talk about playing their old 45's, those are records played at 45 speed, other records were played at 33 speed. Record players had a switch, so you could set for the right speed, so it didn't sound like the chipmunks.
You need to react to some of The Supremes “Baby Love” “Come See About Me” “Where Did Our Love Go” “Stop In The Name Of Love” “You Can’t Hurry Love”. Lead singer is Diana Ross ☮️♥️😎
❤️❤️❤️ Love this groups sound so much, you should do their cover of Witchita lineman it's outstanding ❤️ Marvin Jr (deep voice) Johnny Carter (Falcetto) both no longer with us 💔 RIP Run for cover, Wear it on your face, The love we had stays on my mind, It's all up to you all excellent tracks ❤️❤️❤️
The Dells are from my high school-Thornton Twp. H.S. in Harvey, Illinois. They were the first of many entertainers who "made it" in Hollywood, Broadway, and in music.
One of my all time favorite songs PERIOD! I’m 71 now but back when I was partying most nights in my 20s, this is what was known as “belly rubbing” music which meant just a close slow dance with your partner. We had the best music in the 60s and 70s🔥. Loved your reaction!
The writer for this song was a team of Charles Barksdale and Wade Flemons. These two men were amazing together as and had careers of their own. Wade Flemons was an amazing artist and founder of EWF
Twon makes me smile. I love it that he appreciates the music of my teen years. 😊 I love this album. I listened to this song repeatedly along with Stay In My Corner... great love songs
It's amazing to me that you are so surprised at real singing. Of course I grew up in the 70's and 80's. My mom loved The Dells so I have heard them all my life. This group is so talented. I am happy that someone so young can appreciate that. My 19 year old son won't even listen to it.
Thank you for reaction Im friends and distant cousin with the cousin of the lead singer mr chuck barksdale.may he rip he passed 2019 And my lord he looks just like him also and sound like him..
Young man, you are a delight! This is the music of my high school years. I used to play this song on the juke box, on REPEAT, ie, 3 times for 25 cents. Me and my friends would groove to this song in much the way you are right now. Thanks for making this memory fresh for me--and if you wanna hear OTHER groups whose singing will blow you away, check out THE SPINNERS ---I recommend "Mighty Love". You won't regret it
That classic soul era has to be one of the best times for romantic love songs. All the joys and heartaches. You might like "Rainy Night In Georgia" by Brook Benton.
This is a perfect example of why I have used the name "BringBackThe60sPlease" on line for years now ..... You just can't beat the quality and variety of the music of the 1960's .... Keep up the great work, Twon! SOUL music doesn't get any smoother, sweeter, or more heartfelt than this number by The Dells ...
One of my all time favorites and I'm a Prince lover from the top of my head to the bottom of my feet. But this came out before Prince's first album. Hope I haven't told my age lol 😂😂😂. I'm really enjoying you young blood 💜. Back when singers knew how to sing without computer programming
It's CRAZY how music can take you back to a time and place. My mom who passed lol at year LOOOVED this song!!! Growing up riding in in the card we would try to hold the "baby" note the longest 😂😂 until someone ran out of breath

Agree 1000% those were the best years for love songs...I'm 59 and I grew up hearing them...I knew then I loved music
You gotta love it..keep researching in you tube and you'll find it...try Frankie vallie and the four seasons
Oh lord goodness! I love this song forever!! Pure beautiful!! ❤❤

Longer than Bill Withers in Lovely Day
And David Ebo "I'd rather be by myself"
Angela Winbush Hello Beloved, damn near 30 seconds

Back in the day when that song came on in a house party, you grab a girl for that slow dance. Best of times.

Wow...
This song packs a punch! Great song, great reaction 🙂 ❤️
The Five Heartbeats was mostly about the Dells. The Dells sung, A House Is Not A Home..
The Dells sang "A Heart Is A House For Love". Your thinking of Luther Vandros.
@@marckolajtowicz3282 you're correct. I got it mixed up. That is what I meant. Thank you!

The first time I heard The Dells perform this song live, the lead singer held that note for 32 counts. The audience lost its collective mind!
Marvin Junior is his name. Same here, he held that note even longer than on this record. And yes, the audience lost it that night too😅
