- Use AA batteries in the place of anything requiring C cells or D cells. The voltage of all these cells is the exact same. The only difference is the capacity(how long they will last).

This vid is 6 years old, and I still learned something new. Awesome, practical, efficient. Thanks!
Awesome, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for taking the time to post it.
Wow I just learned something tonight! Thank you so much. I try to buy lots of lotsof batterys to have on hand. Living off grid we use the batteries alot for smaller stuff like our led lights, battery operated radio..ect ect. I love this idea!! Cool!
Starry Hilder Awesome... I'm glad you like it.
What's your electrical and water supply of you live off grid? Thx
Thanks a lot mate, I was searching for a solution to use my rechargeable AA batteries instead of buying expensive D batteries to power portable water fluid pump, and just crossed your video, awesome and smart easy solution :) . Thanks again and keep up your good work.
Thanks.
I can see this being used on Christmas morning or some other event where it's just not a good time to run to the store and then.... Dads the hero and saves the day! Another great video.
Tim theToolman Thanks Toolman.
Nothing less than a perfect DYI solution to battery sizing issues which might come into play in allot of different scenarios. I like to stay on the top of my game when it comes to working out problems. Simple but smart! I enjoyed the video. Your videos are always excellent and informative!
Curiosity Thanks man.
whats DYI?
Wow thank you for this great tip. I live in Florida and hurricane Irma is on her way with no D batteries anywhere. I did exactly what you explained and it really worked!!
Awesome, I'm glad this will be helpful.
Great idea I've done the small to big battery (1.5v) in a pinch but I never thought about a cardboard tube thanks for making my life a little easier
Shaun Hadley Thanks Shaun. -Moe
I have tried this hack before on a lantern that uses D batteries. The problem with aluminum foil is that it initially works pretty good but the connection it makes seems to be a little flaky. Especially if you need to use more than one piece of foil (I was trying to make AA substitutes for the D batteries in one of those Coleman LED lanterns with the battery cartridge). The foil seems to compress over time and randomly looses contact. That's why they use springs, I guess.
Octo Puss Good point. The trick is to tightly role the foil so it is as compressed as possible to begin with.
Have u ever try to shock the dead battery to revived it?
Shock with homelite electric lawn mow, 120vdc, 10amp.
I have many success recharge none chargeable dead energized battery.
This was so helpful.. all the stores were out of D batteries because Hurricane Irma is coming and everyone is going nuts. We had a flashlight that required 2 D batteries. Instead of 1 AA battery I used 2 and added aluminum foil. This saved my flashlight!!! Thank you so much again!!!!!!!!!!
Aleeza Masood came for the same reason XD
Awesome. I'm glad it was helpful.
Nice one Moe as usual. When are you gonna Hack your camera to make it 1080p?
Bob Bailey Hey Thanks... It's 1080p. Sometimes it just takes UA-cam a couple hours to make all formats available to everyone.
thx man. Most of us don't ever think of these simple solutions. Really enjoy your channel.
Frederick Ippolito Hey thanks... I'm glad you like it. -Moe
I open up 9v and keep part of the tabs that joins as they are about 7mm short they make fantastic AAA Batteries for my remotes

I have a question for you I have always wondered, the size of the battery does that mean the voltage or the capacity??
Correct me if I'm wrong you can replaced Triple A or AAA with button cell batteries they are the same size.
redneckbryon Watch batteries are either 1.5volt or sometimes 3volt. AAA, AA, C, D are all 1.5volt with the larger sizes just having more capacity.
thanks for the tip! By the way, I tried to recharge Panasonic Alkaline AA Batteries with a time switch, like you showed in one of your Videos ...and it actually WORKED!!! thanks for that!
Phil
bl0ckbust3r Thanks Man. That's great that you are getting more use out of your cells as well. They seam to like to take a charge easily if they haven't been drained to total dead.
Wow thank you so much this was so helpful! You are the greatest youtuber ever!
Glad I could help!
BRILLIANT! Was about to buy adapters but think I'll try this instead!
Hey Thanks. I'm glad you liked it.
Great little trick , yes always lots of AA batteries hanging around but never the bigger C or D batteries , so this is a good save , well done again ..
Seanie P, C Hey Thanks.
great as always
mustie1 Thanks Man.
That's a good tip to get you out of trouble.
Cheers
Martin
retrorestore Thanks Man.
Good information as usual Moe.
As always, thank you.
EdOfTheNorth Thank You.
Thanks for the tip, I had no clue you can do that, and it works just perfect.
No problem 👍
I actually bought some adapters which take double AA and covert them to D and C sizes.
Richard Sandwell Awesome. They are very handy.
Thanks for the tips man just saved me some bucks, earned a new sub!
Good video Moe, a very helpful tip
Alan Mulry Thanks Alan. Probably not an everyday thing but definitely has it place.
You crack me up dude, your all right pretty crafty,I really liked your she'd made of pallets video ,it inspired me to go down the road and fish used wood like 2x4, 2x8, 4x4 and built a pretty nice pergola, all for free, they are building homes and I got all the wood I can get out of the construction dumpsters and it came out pretty nice if I don't say so my self but didn't cost a ime and ended up being about $800 in wood after all was done, I had to pressure wash a lot of the wood at night time cause the wood would have like tar or concrete on it but all the wood I ended up getting was pressure treated scrap pieces and or builders framing wood, keep up the cool tricks or the trades
armando patane Hey Thanks Man. Yeah, they throw away a lot of usable wood at construction sites.
D cells is getting obsolete in my country and I use your method shown here to convert C cells to D; It works !!! Thanks for your great sharing.
Wonderful!
You don't use them for flashlights?
Good tip. But you could also use the C or D converters, and I have a few that I got form eBay that are lifesavers, that convert the AAA/AA to whatever C or D. They are typically less than $1 for one or more. A lot neater and quicker to switch out. lol
Yeah, I have a few C ones for random items, but I need a few more.
Is that what he talks about at 3:54?
Thanks I did what you showed to open the lids on trash cans They work great and now the lid opens by it self when you wave in front of the senor Thanks again
Hey Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.
Ok, that's it 65. When I get stranded on a desert island, I am leaving my wife home and bringing you! Just for your brilliant mind, mind you. You are amazing. Thank you.
splibb Hey Thanks Man.
Hey Moe nice tip. Great idea when in a jam. Thanks
JOE Z Thanks Joe.
I use D ,AA ,and AAA. I have done similar to that when i have ran out of the right size battery . It seems you always run out of the correct size sometime or another . Good video.
wtbm123 Thanks Brother.
But what about the voltage? I have a Rocker wah pedal for guitar that needs 2x 3v bateries Size C
Can the pedal work with 2x 1,5v batery?
Type aaa, aa, c, d are all 1.5v
Can you put the foil in the middle of the batteries ? Just wondering
Cool. Good tip when you need to make something work. Thanks for sharing, I enjoy your channel!
-Jack
Fireship1 Thanks Jack.... Great to have you on board watching. -Moe
hi just tried your method n works great. was abit messy getting right but got there in the end. works great n thanks for the advice.
+Syed Ali Great. I'm glad you tried it.
cool never knew about this. how much less time will the AA batteries last compared to D batteries?
mike gager About 1/4 as long with Alkanline. I run a lot of rechargeable batteries and there is no difference in C, D, or AA capacity with these.
3:11 is that another battery? an Energizer at the top
Yeah. I 9 Volt for some reason?
if i'd have known that in 1986 that would have made my Christmas!! awesome job!!
Ivan Gregory Oh Yeah... Thanks Man.
What happened in Christmas of 1986...we need to know
Nice trick, glad you shared this. Take care
Rusty Glovebox Thanks Man.
Thank you AGAIN SIR.
Nice video but one thing to keep in mind is not to use the harbor freight batteries as seen in your video. When I used them in my devices they left it leaking and spilling battery juice that ended up burning my hand and ruining my device.
True. The cheap carbon batteries have a tendency to leak.
I did it. It worked! Thanks
Cool dude. Oh and of course I want Simon or Encore now
Great hack there Moe !! Love it ..
ShawnMrFixit Lee Thanks Man.
Thank you so much! Buying F batteries for my babies swing is so expensive I'd rather do this or get an adapter this was a great video!!!
Oops D* batteries lol
YOU JUST SAVED MY LIFE THANK YOU SO MUCH
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.
Could you have done that with the c batteries in place of the aa batteries?
If you can fit C batteries in the spot, yes. D,C, AA and AAA are all the same voltage and can be swapped around anyway you wish.
Probably better off with the aluminium foil in the middle of the batteries, at least then you get the proper battery connections at each end. I reckon a spring in the middle would be a good workaround too.
Evil from evilution Yeah either way would work good.
This is a really nice trick. Pretty safe I assume? It looks harmless for 3 volts but just wanted to ask.
3 volts is harmless.
Using aluminum foil won't cause an issue? And wouldn't using an A cell for a D cell application not work considering D cells have different amperage values?
TheFlacker99 (Flak) The smaller cells just have a lower capacity so they will be used up faster. The aluminum foil easily transfers the electrical current in these low voltage, short distant situations.
thank you, really like your input, very creative
Charles Buchanan Hey Thanks.
Worked just fine with a Nerf Rapidstrike CS-18. Thank you!
Awesome.
I thought double a would work but just wanted to make sure it didn’t make them explode
It is very helpful!!! Thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks for watching.
Is good for my radio?
I did similar for a flashlight couple yrs ago. I made two stacks (rolls) of 3 AA with tucktape, put a loony between the rolls and fix with some *Extreme-speed Speed-way high-grade* "Duck-Tape" (lol) and made spacers using loonies (dollar coins) again.
GHISLAIN LETOURNEAU Nicely done.
Thank you so much ❤️
Thanks bro, worked like a charm
Awesome.
Thank you very much, that was awesome. I'll try it.
Could you also do the opposite? For example use 2 D batteries instead of 2 aa batteries?
Absolutely.
Thank you kindly. It works great for my flashlight!!!
all right thanks for the tip Moe.
***** Thanks..
I put my dead batteries on a charger ...so I can put them to use longer ...what are your thoughts on that?
soyearold Oh Yeah. ua-cam.com/video/qsjEWthWHM0/v-deo.html Here is the video of me doing just that.
I did the opposite of this, I have a small fm transmitter that runs on 2x AAA batteries and they run down very quickly, which affects the audio quality - so I soldered in an external battery box which holds 2x C batteries, and as you say, they are the same voltage, but higher capacity, now it runs for what seems like ten times longer.
davidrobert2007 Yeah Cs will last a ton longer for sure.
Thank you!
Great work,
New title: how to roll a battery blunt
super useful. I got a bug zapper racquet and this hack worked for me !
Glad it helped!
Good tip, thanks.
rennybarr Thanks Man. -Moe
It is very helpful!!! 👋
great tip Moe!
tblbaby Thanks Man.
Great idea
Tim datoolman Thanks for watching Tim. -Moe
I have used external batteries used a usb cable to run some devices just need to see voltage.. Thanks That will work great for some old flashlights I have.
000Virtual Thanks Man.
Thanks. great idea.
Bruce Pender Thanks Man.
Great info thanks!
Alan Marshall Thanks Man.
Thanks
Now if you can help us out with a dead 9volt you could be a millionaire
airkraft1 Oh yeah.... :-)
It's Halloween, and the batteries on the door bell were dead. Thanks for this video. Turned 4 AA's into 4 D's.
Thanks, I'm glad it was helpful.
I tried this with a 1000 Lumen flashlight, except for cardboard napkins work well too.
GamingFTW12 Nice!
very resourceful
James Campbell Thanks man.
3d printed AA to D shell adaptors?
You can buy them cheaper than you could print them amzn.to/3fJCjJD
Imagine THAT!........Great vid!........TKS!
BART SIMPSON Thanks Man...
Another neat idea! Thanks!
A LeBlanc Thank Man.
Very cool
StrtRodder100 Thanks Brother.
Man, you're a living McGyver. Now if you could fix my checking account that'd be perfect.!!
tkdnwwis Ha. Thanks Man. Yeah I think checking accounts are hopeless.
I don't get this....if on voltage and current level these batteries can replace each other....then why in the first place so many types of batteries were manufactured🤔I mean they could just have made all the devices AA battery compatible🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
It's the amp hours. Basically more capacity.
i'm a little dumb but will the output be the same?
Yes, all these cells put out 1.5 volts. The size difference is only capacity. So it will run longer on a D cell vs a AA.
thanks Moe, great for emergencies. thanks.
59chevt Great for emergencies or Christmas morning when you don't have the right batteries.
very nice suggestion, thanks for this video, now i can solve the problem i always encountered
Great!
I used foil to fill it in
Life saver.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.
I'd probably just go to the store and buy more AA. Clever idea tho to roll your batteries in cardboard to make them fit otherbsizes
is this safe to do. will it damage my device.
+Syed Ali It will not and is perfectly safe for your device. AAA, AA, C, D all supply the exact same voltage to the device. The larger cells just hold more power and last longer in a device. So a AA that is replacing a D cell will only last 1/3 or so the time that a D cell would.
works like the $1 adapters online, but the aa hold 15% the power of a D cell
Good trick! It's important to have fun games and water cooler talk in the break room.
Ozzstar Thanks Man.
Awesome! Thanks!
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.
Thanks man!
zzzdogutube Always good to hear from you. -Moe
