    I'm guessing the blue paste is Zinc (Anode) and the dark is a Manganese Oxide (Cathode).
    Thanks for the video. I was just reading up on how they work. Diagrams are no match for seeing the real thing!

    The reason the C and D batteries look different inside is because most D batteries today are actually C batteries inside of an adapter. It's hard to find real D batteries nowadays. If you notice, a D battery from the 1950s is much heavier than a modern one, for example but C batteries weigh about the same
