As an intuitive, I have always said to my guests who came over "I'm so grateful you came!! I wouldn't have cleaned the house if no one came by..." I thank them because I get to enjoy top-notch cleanliness and tidiness for about a week before it turns back into a pig sty.
I can't do Si without having a sensory distraction, like music, to actually complete the task and enjoy it. It then becomes therapeutic because I'm not mentally engaging with the sensory. Without it, I'll stop and find something more Ni to do with the rest of my time. But yeah..... this is a great example of how Si manifests itself differently than Ni within the sensory.
I'm with you on that! Listening to a class on audio helps a lot. Either that or I distract myself with the challenge of doing as much as I can in 30 mins so then I can say I'm done. 😆
@@InternetLiJo I give myself one main chore a day, as an intention. If I do that, I'm proud of myself and have a sense of accomplishment. No more guilt tripping myself. Unfortunately (and I think this might be an Ne thing) sometimes in the middle of a chore, I have to go to another room to get something and I see another chore that needs to be done and I start doing that one, then when I'm halfway through that one, I see another chore that needs to be done and I start doing that one...
INTJ here - recently divorced with kids and I have to do all this stuff all the time. Only tricks I've found are to own as few things as possible (less to take care of) and to keep horizontal surfaces clear of clutter so dirt can't hide and things look tidy. (and of course child labor)
Lead Si here. It's so funny to me to see intuitives learn/discover things like this with a sense of epiphany. I'm sure I'm the same way with my demons - what's obvious to my lead Ne husband will sometimes leave me entirely surprised. I used to create detailed lists like this for myself (although nothing THIS extreme, admitedly), especially before having a kid. I find a lot of comfort in to-do lists, especially ones broken down into clear procedures. There is a sense of security in knowing that I have a process and system figured out, the benefit of knowing I'm not going to leave things undone so long as I follow the plan. But it can backfire, too. The more time you take to create systems and procedures and lists like this, the greater sense of responsibility you have - not just a responsibility to do all of the tasks, but to do them properly and thoroughly. It took me a long time to understand that, as my life got busier (working, school, parenting, etc.), my previously comforting routine was now adding SO much stress. The more time I put into thinking something through, the more tied to that I am and I found that if I didn't fulfill the tasks I'd set on the list, I'd be left feeling a mixed sense of guilt and frustration. These days I still have a list, but it's a list that is not so detailed as to be overwhelming, and I approach it with the begrudging understanding that there's likely going to be things I won't be able to get done at the end of every week - and I have to remind myself that that's okay.
Here's how I maintenance my home: 1.) Realize things aren't going to last forever. 2.) Accept this fact, but still be anxious about stuff tearing up. 3.) Do below minimal maintenance on things. 4.) Have a level 9 meltdown when things DO eventually break. 5.) Go buy another one three days later because it's not worth the trouble of having to find someone to repair it. XD
@@dacksonflux Don't have to clean gutters if your house doesn't have gutters. 900 IQ move. >:D (... Except it's causing my siding to rot, but ... hey, we'll cross that bridge when we get there. XD)
I learned to mimic SI and it helps a lot with the sensory overload oddly enough. I just workout a strategy and put automated notes on my phone to remind me to clean and organize certain things to prevent catastrophe or mess. I like to think I'm slaying a dragon for each task I do.
I dislike cleaning, though sometimes I will get in the mood to organize and improve my environment. At that point, I will tackle tasks I have been ignoring for ages and finally clean the space to where it pleases me.
As an ENFP, I have to admit, that list utterly exhausted me! Don't get me wrong, if someone with a happy attitude were to come and do all those things for me on a regular basis, I would be so very happy. I know cause I once had a person like that. She was awesome! But for me to do all of that on my own on a regular basis, I don't think it's going to happen. Until of course, I absolutely have to, and then it definitely gets done, or I pay someone to do it for me. I've done both.
Doing laundry is the bane of my existence. I took have had to pause multiple times to sort of "catch my breath" I do some of these things on a YEARLY basis MAYBE
As an INTJ who has grown up with an ISTJ dad and an ISFJ mom, I feel this on a personal level 😁 I won't lie though, Si doms are really good in terms of taking care of the actual physical environment. My mom maintains her kitchen, as if she actually lives there 😄 All the dishes are cleaned right after the meal, the floor is NEVER wet, and the first aid kit is always stocked well. My mom's philosophy about this "behaviour" is that, even if a blind person enters hers kitchen with a cut finger, the First Aid kit should be so easily accessible, that even they can find it without any help. My dad has his collection of books arranged in alphabetical order (who even does that?) and keeps his writing desk clean. He still uses a fountain pen ("new stuff is bad") and has his cabinet filled with color coded folders (yeah, this is true). I know it sounds super frustrating for the intuitives like us, but I really admire and appreciate the effort.
I kinda relate to this. My father is the one who will clean up the house. Sometimes he gets very mad when our house is messy and he will right away cleaning up everything. I agree it's frustrating to clean something like every 5 mins 💀. Well, me and my sis kinda lucky to have someone like him lol. (Idk maybe he's ISTJ jumper????)
As an ENFP, I don’t clean on a regular schedule, but when I do clean, I do almost all this. Once I start, I can’t stop! I also do this when I’m stressed and/or avoiding things that really freak me out, like taxes, paperwork etc. cleaning is huge stress release for me and I’ve heard this can be common for people with Si inferior. I’ve totally washed doors. Legit, I have.
I wonder if the Ne makes it hard to stop once you got the momentum going... I can relate as an INTP. Super hard to get going, but once I do, I can just go go go.
My ISFJ mother does some of the deep cleaning chores on those lists, like washing doors and knobs, on a weekly basis, and she demands collaboration from everybody in the house. Usurprisingly, as an INTJ I find this excruciating. I appreciate her conscientiousness and the way she makes things run smoothly, though.
If there’s anything I’ve learned from MBTI, it’s that I’m not the only one completely overwhelmed and uninterested by things that are part of normal life. My family is sensory-dominant and I’ve wondered for a long time what is wrong with me. Good thing I’m not alone 😁
OMG YES!! My mom is an esfp who grew up in a very very strict household and worked a bunch of cleaning positions in her life. She’s very perfectionistic when it comes to cleaning and gets her regular emotional outbursts when I don’t clean things to perfection. She prefers to do most things by herself cause “nobody does it right”. She speaks very condescendingly of people who aren’t as clean as her so I grew up just constantly feeling bad about my lack of awareness of these things. Finding mbti and also learning about psychology has helped me understand that, in reality, it’s not actually that bad that I’m not that great at cleaning or naturally aware of the sensory data around me.
I come from a household where nobody cleaned, and my room was the cleanest (more like the most organized), i do have "to do" lists and days where I have planned to do certain things, but I never get to do them because my sleep schedule is all over the place. So i can see myself a bit in these examples.
As an ENFP, I can see how powerful and useful Si can be. I have tasted how it feels to use it properly. I'm also willing to learn/know more. Thank you, Lindsay, for shedding some light on it.
Holy shit. As an INTP, I pick and choose the things that are important to me at the time. When something annoys me enough, that is when I clean it. I used to clean the bathroom once a week, but now I clean it when it seems like it "needs" to be cleaned, or when the water spots on the faucet are getting cray cray. One of my favorite parts of the video: "Not quite the floor, but not quite the wall". LOL. INTJ goes to Home Depot: "Hi, I'm looking for the thing that is not quite the floor, but not quite the wall..." And the proper term is floor moulding (at least I think that's what you're talking about). Baseboards exist, but they are heaters that run along where the wall meets the floor. Not all houses have baseboards, but all houses have floor moulding (at least they should). Trigger moment for me: "Apparently people do this and maybe it's something I need to do as well." NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! You've got a case of the "shoulds". You don't need to do anything you don't want to. Just because other people do something, it doesn't mean you should. This is what Si excels in. You excel in other things. Don't take away from that by thinking you have to clean your floor moulding, rotate your mattress, change our your oven vent filter, or check your hose for cracks and stuff like that. Oh yeah, I would say I'm super good at keeping everything we typically use stocked up. I normally keep an extra of everything, so when one runs out, the extra is there, and hopefully before I put the one that has run out in the trash, I put it on my grocery list.
I know an ISTJ/ ESTJ couple that certainly models this idea. I went to their house/museum and was awestruck. No clutter, anywhere. Beds made. Bathroom immaculate. The garage was pristine. I was very impressed and went home and tried to recreate what I saw. They would have chuckled like they were watching a three-year-old trying to tidy up, but I was quite pleased with myself. There is no way I can keep up that level of perfection but I deeply appreciated how sound and tidy everything was in their home. When I really want to get my house in order I invite people over for dinner and then I spend the week or days leading up to the dinner cleaning everything from top to bottom. People have commented that I'm quite neat but I'm nervous the whole time they will open a closet and realize the truth :) So ... I like to peacock every now and then.
Thank you for linking SI to cleaning lists and standards. This has shed a lot of light on my daily/weekly/monthly/seasonal home maintenance. My ISTJ husband of 42 years was a cleaning machine deluxe…everything was spotless and legit perfect. I so appreciated his focus and ability to have all in order. He was 10 years older than myself and passed away 2 years ago (it was his time). Yikes! I’m an ENFP and SI is the lowest least developed function in my stack. I was adrift for a year…the deeper cleaning was off track, along with the garage, yard, car stuff, and taxes that I’d never done. I felt overwhelmed until I got tired of that and decided enough! It is up to me, now. I did some research (Ne) and created the weekly/monthly lists you showed and with my TE (3rd function) even scheduled them to get done. Fi struggled to prioritize cleaning over something more fun. I put it off and put it off. I was sabotaging myself and judging myself as inadequate to do something that was clearly easy to do but, I just couldn’t make myself do such a boring repetitive task. The Fourth function in the stack is sometimes referred to as a 5 year old developmentally. My 5 year old Si liked the purity of the lists, yet deaf to the schedule. So many lists were also overwhelming and depressing. My Si loves order and feels uncomfortable in chaos. Fi was stuck…I felt overwhelmed with the lists and uncomfortable with the chaos, I needed a novel approach to get all of my functions working together. I stumbled on to a way to enroll my strengths of Ne, Fi, and Te to support Si. I only realize this now after watching your video and analyzing (Ne) the strategy that turned it all around. This is life changing stuff! What is working for me is to make cleaning a fun (Fi) game with music, setting a timer (Te) and doing Ninja cleaning (a strategy I found online to clean the entire house in 2 hours…my Ne at work). All of the cleaning supplies are gathered…music ready…set a timer, go! The light a candle and spray a scent thing isn’t on the list. I like the feel of it though. :). The feeling of being done is exhilarating. I feel like a grownup and strong enough to take very good care of me on my own with all functions onboard. Si is calmer with the order, Te loves a schedule/plan, Fi enjoys the game of Ninja cleaning, and Ne is on the lookout for novel cleaning hacks. I apply this same Ninja strategy to getting other SI projects done; the car, yard, garage, taxes etc…. I’m in year 3 on my own…it is getting easier and more streamlined with each season and I feel balanced as my Si is growing up, too. Thank you, Lindsay for the incite on Si!
What needs to be kept in mind as well is that the time intervals depend on the intensity of how you use something. Of course the kitchen doesn't need to be cleaned too often if you're rarely using it in the first place. Nonetheless, I think the list is a good idea to check back into reality in the first place. Intuition, while it's fancy to philisophize about it, is making you blunt and blind if overpreferred.
Fun and informative video! This INFJ has learned the hard way. I do a 'big clean' one morning every week, and I make a list beforehand of the things that need attention. I've had to learn how to act like I have Si, as a homeowner.
I have been through depression over the past few years. Over these years I have noticed a lot of flaws in how I function through life. Especially with how unorganized and unclean I am with my own house and living conditions. I honestly can't keep up with the chores as and when they need to be done. I always think I should do this on a weekly basis or do that on a daily basis but I just can't keep up. Its like my reality doesn't pass by as other people. I can understand why things need to be done on time but I just can't do it. Thanks to this list, I'm inspired to make one of my own and hopefully follow it. 😅
Hey there, I feel you. The best you can do is simply all you can do. One thing that is nice is having a benchmark to reference for days you are up for something; that way you don't have to expend the energy thinking of "what". I hope your list brings you a little unexpected peace :)
My brother is an ISFJ and I am an INFP. I asked my mom about our cleaning habits when I was a kid, and my mom said "You had none. You were always outside catching bugs. Your brother was always cleaning after you." Nooo 😭😂😂
Lol 😂 As an INTJ, I just do a weekly cleaning if my ESFJ mom said so and it's such a pain. Like EVERY SINGLE TIME, she will nag at me about how dirty my desk is and it full of dust and I was like it's clean she should just leave it and she will start to get mad at me then said how can I study in a very dirty desk 😂 As for me, I don't found it very dirty because I still put my things in their own place and organized it. It's just dusty and I'll clean it if it somehow bothers me. Her Si is so annoying sometimes like when she show how to clean the floor and I was so shock because how the heck did she make the floor shiny and I always do her "ways". In conclusion, People with high Si can be annoying when they told you to clean every single time but they are so convenient sometimes lol 😂
Do people actually do all of that?! Half of it I didn't even think about... Trying not to have a panic attack. Should I do all of that as well?? It's overwhelming, to say the least. So interesting though... Thank you, Lindsay. There's a lot to learn.
Great video and shout outs on Si cleaning structure. My partner has tertiary Si, and as he's grown up/matured, he's seen the value of planning/organizing for stuff like this in advance (as opposed to my auxiliary Se way of just bulldozing through whatever obstacles inevitably come up). Might go ahead and pinch some stuff from these lists to impress him when we do the next housecleaning sess'. XD Thanks LiJo! x
I helped out a Si friend quite a few times with her cleaning business, I learned a lot. One thing I learned is to buy a reusable/washable shower curtain. (Not the decorative one) Soak it in the washer with whatever you prefer, for 1/2 hrs or so, then wash it. Hang it back up.
based on this I'm def not Si, I don't do any of those things. I live alone and my motto is, don't make dirt in the first place, then I don't need to clean up. I have a few things that I do regularly that are necessary, I skip the rest. When I was wondering before if I'm Se or Si, this video makes it clear, I must be Se for sure.
Hi, Lijo! I didn't have much to add the first time I saw this video, but I'm back after watching a vlog by someone who clearly has high Si. She went into a tangential rant about brands that phase out quality products and pour their resources into putting out something new and shiny every year. For instance, how can you do maintenance on the reliable stand mixer you've had for ten years when you can't get spare parts for it any longer? And don't say that the "answer" is to buy a new mixer! The old one wasn't bad or even broken; it just needed proper upkeep! I have Si child myself and am pretty happy with my current skincare routine. But if one of the products I love got phased out, the ripple effect from the loss would extend past the routine itself to my budget, to my bathroom storage space, and my handbag storage space. To name three things. We are all a heartbeat away from chaos!
Wow, this person sure knows how to keep a deep clean procedure.😀 By any chance, what's the vloger's name please.🙏 I would like to learn from this person, since I have trouble keeping a cleaning schedule.😣
LiJo so cool. I love your honesty. Its very interesting that N types might not track Si Se so much, even though you appreciate a clean desk. So that means you DO lots and bring environment (sensory world) into shape. Even if its not easy, you still get it done. You guys made me cleaning my internet workspace and subs and mails as well ;-) Thanks lots. :-) Neat, Clean, Focus, Accomplish.
I’m about to move out for the first time and live with 2 roomies so I remembered this video from when I watched it a year ago to make sure I’m cleaning correctly once my mom won’t be there to deep clean for me anymore lol As an entp, I oftentimes don’t even pay attention to these kinds of things (never in my life have I thought of cleaning the inside of my shower head or the literal wall before but here we are I guess). I’ve never been particularly into cleaning or organizing so this is a whole new world to me. It drains me a lot but I do see why it’s very important. + I saw a comment by an Enfp saying they don’t clean regularly but when they do they can’t stop and do it all at once: this is how I feel as well! Probably an ne user thing. It’s frustrating to be confronted with your weak spot (that you do value but simply aren’t a natural at) so inevitably. Ya can’t escape it but u can put on a playlist and try to get everything done before it’s over (Also I have to say that I prefer the si way over the se way here. I do need a cleaning schedule cause otherwise I’ll be overwhelmed cause I’m simply not as aware of these things and I tend to be forgetful. Se kinda just plays it by ear but when it comes to maintaining the home or really anything, having a schedule that deals with consistently recurring tasks and events is the only way in which I can go to bed calmly without being anxious that I might’ve forgotten something important)
Heck yeah! Congrats on moving out of your parents place, this is where true growth (like areas you mentioned) begins. The world is your oyster! Let me know if there are any other tips that could be useful as you get along!
As an INFP, I'd say it would be far more rewarding just to hire someone who's high on Si and pay them to do the cleaning for me so that I can get back to writing my latest book. Lol.
Growing up with an ISFJ mom was a lot of "why are doing this?". She would do stuff like clean the ceiling with a special broom. She is the reason why I wash towels and sheets every week. And she does clean the washing machine!
My mom is istj and it was very similar...really ocd intense to be honest. Like cleaning the LEGOS every weekend in bleach and with a toothbrush. No jokes haha. I was my sheets weekly and towels daily and I'm only next to near as clean because of my raising ! Completely agree
I just have no idea how on earth you have time to do anything else. I live with two Si users and life is pretty much work and cleaning. I daren't even sit down because they never seem to! That list of weekly chores is more like my version of spring cleaning! I have so much work to do on Si. I have good memory for past events and I can be sentimental, but this organising and cleaning stuff I'm just so in awe of how they do it. 😮
I'm at 2:36 and I had to pause already 3 times bcs I'm overwhelmed with so many things to do, omg Edit: I have to admit, a tear escaped my eye. I was just imagining myself doing all of those and I just...... Idk what to say, I was laughing all the time. U know that pain-laughter? That one! - ENTP
I am an intj and autistic (didn’t know til I was 35) so masking is big thing I’ve been realizing I do. I clean houses professionally and the lady who taught me how to clean is was an ESFJ. I just learned to do what she told me so that I can go thru the motions to check off the list while listening to an audiobook or podcast and remaining in my head 😂 I have definitely learned to Te the whole thing so I get it done faster than she did. I also realized I was mimicking how she interacted with clients because I don’t know how to people. Luckily they are all very understanding and keep me even tho I come off really weird. My own house is a whole different story. I probably only clean it like that once every 3 months when someone is coming over.
It's like, they see reality, and just know what's wrong. Se can clean well too but they will sweep more categorically. Si knows more of how define the "right way" of maintenance.
Very beneficial. I am right there with you on not being into sensing. Si is my third slot function. I just don't see things unless I make a conscious effort. However, as I've gotten older, and more aware of my deficiency, I worry about it so much. My house isn't any cleaner for the worry. It seems the only thing that works is to fully immerse myself in how good each item looks as it becomes clean. I never noticed it before! Maybe I'm finally developing my Si a little?!
My ISFJ mom is definitely this type of Si dom (washing doors, making me wipe down the walls and fan blades weekly, etc.). I’m an ISTJ and while I do appreciate a clean physical space, this type of ritual is overwhelming lololol
INTJ married to INTP and we have lots of kids so I had to learn the hard way that keeping up with things just realy helps making life run more smootly. I don't clean to clean, but I do clean to live an efficient life and to not waist time on stupid stuff. I follow the fly lady system, it's 15 minutes a day of weird-to-me stuff that actualy generates results, and I get my but moving for a little bit witch also is usefull.
Haha As an Estp I was thinking just the other day I need more Si to clean my house since I'm so bad at it. Great video! Now I know more to clean even though I probably will never do them.
Infp 5 minutes in: oh. my. god. NO 😂 At the end I just heard you talking but couldn't keep up with what you're saying until you mentioned the hose. I stayed with you till the end for the algo 🤓😄 Thanks for your effort, it is truly miraculous in how many ways I can waste my time in this short timespan of me being in a human form. 😎
Every month I realize it it possible to clean more and more things to maintain them better and make them last longer. Makes your house healthier and cleaner to live in. I believe if companies could design appliances that are easy to deep clean accessible to the average person they could last years longer than throwing them out every 5 years and buying a new one when they stop working. For example it is cheaper the long run to wash shower curtains rather than buying new ones like a subscription fee a few times a year. Also makes less of a land fill. You can use a microwave and toaster oven alot longer if you empty out the crumb tray regularly and smoke scrub it with a few paper towels and water a couple times a week. It you will almost eliminate the smoke alarm going off from smoke in the toaster oven and I bet if you do this with a new toaster oven it will never get that bad.
I once saw a car driving with a decal for their business on it. It said something like "merry maids. It's a broom life" lol I immediately thought "ESFJs must be in there" haha ISFJs too perhaps. They might have been on their way to pick you up haha God bless you all
As an INTP Si is my tertiary function aka "I would like to but don't have time/energy/etc" slot. Mostly those things just in the "later" section but when (if!) guests coming Ne take the lead and clean in panic mode - yet still in Si level.
Having 3 young kids taught me to let go of maintaining a clean house. I tend to the absolutely necessary things to get everyone through the day. It’s hard for me to replace things I keep needing…frequently I’m like oh darn that’s right I need more…insert household necessity….(notice each time I would use for multiple days in a row, then forget to buy later)
for many years I had 4 things - cat box, toilet bowl (+ bathroom sink + tub), empty trash, and vac the critters around the under edge of the kitchen counter. Everything else would be on a someday maybe list.. BTW, being single - I currently have enough underwear to only do laundry once a month. It used to be easy to bribe roommates with free pizza if THEY do things like vacuum and pick up the living room.
And this is why I'm in the market for cleaning bots. For those also averse to the sensory, Samsung make the most reliable vacuum bots. Also, window washer bots are apparently a thing ^^
Just a couple of years ago, cleaning a microwave was a foreign concept to me. I have never thought/ known of the existence of most of the things in this video. I better go download this list 😂 I can totally respect this though…from a distance.
haha I relate to this so much. I've had so many moments of "cleaning **name of thing** was a foreign concept"... things... and all of the attention they need. Geez!
Get one of those covers to put over your food in the microwave. I almost never have to clean my microwave because I always cover my food. If the food ever has little explosions, it bursts into the cover, so all I have to clean is the cover usually, and even then, most of the time I just do a quick rinse off.
I’m an ENTP and of course I barely clean but when I get to clean I straight up think about it as in a Si manner, which is very exhausting and if I’m actually doing it I end up not doing it the way it would make me satisfied and that sucks
My husband is like this (also an ENTP). It can be especially frustrating for him because when he DOES make up his mind to clean, it takes him time to figure out where to really start. He'll realize as he's going that he's approaching the tasks "out of order" and so will try to trace back to the tasks that make sense to do first. But doing so will put him face to face with the sheer number of tasks to get done and it mentally exhausts him pretty quickly. For me it's not a big deal - but I'm Si dominant. I can usually see how the tasks line up naturally and I seem to be more resilient to the "weight" of the to-do list, if that makes sense.
I didn't know there were people that thought spring cleaning wasn't a thing, lol. However I realize that probably 20% or so do not know that the oven vent has a filter. It's quite interesting to see your view on these things. Some are a bit too much (for me), but I can see people doing them. (: Btw.: Washing doors can make a huge difference, I think my wife has never done that. :D
I am INTP and I hate, hate cleaning. Just the thought of it drains the energy out of me but once I do it I go hard and once I get everything cleaned I feel soooo proud of my self. It's like an on and off switch and the cleaning part of me is always off but once I flip the switch on it's on.
I’m guilty of doing majority of those things. 😆 I pay very close attention to detail. I don’t do some of it only because I can’t physically but I get someone else to do it for me. There are only a couple of the things mentioned that I only do on an as needed basis.
Late but YT recommended this to me, probably because I recently told someone that cleaning and doing paper work will be what kills me. One of my buddies, who is very similar to me (xNTP), hires cleaners to come in. I'm sure it's costly but less costly than the money I would have to pay due to my lack of maintenance. Plus, I would be saving time. My other solution is to make cleaning as simple as possible--like cleaning when I'm already doing something else. My dislike of cleaning has more to do with the overwhelming discomfort so I'm guessing a list won't help. I have found taking SAM-e gave me more energy (and reduced anxiety from physical exertion) initially... but it seems as if it's no longer working.
Whew boy !! That was good. I wonder how much time that would consume to do as written. Now with a few frequency modifications, that is how I was raised by a very militant ENTJ mother. I know everything but washing the dryer. I wonder are they meaning the lint build up in the trap and hose. Cleaning that is very important for preventing fires, which are more common than you may believe. They sell products to wash your washing machine and dishwasher by the way. You basically just run it on empty. Gets rid of dingy soap scum. Doors get dirty near the handles, so do you don't generally wash the whole door. Myself, I am still on C word decontamination schedule, and spend half an hour after work getting clean. This is the most I have written. Sorry if it is too much Te. Thought it might be useful or satisfying to know. Thanks Lijo. You are the best.💙
You mentioned your mom is ENTJ. What are you? I'm also ENTJ and I wouldn't be able to do what your mom did. Maybe it's because I'm ADHD. But your mom has Ni and not Si, so how did she do it?
@@MsTammy55 Imagine an army General commanding troops ( children) at the crack of dawn, with a no negotiation agenda and you are there. I think this habit was placed in her by her father. He was very stern and meticulous.
I thought I was quite clean until I watched this. I'm a bad lead Si, I don't do most of these things nearly as often as I should and a few of them not at all.
Laura I'm sure you still have most of us beat!! I like to think of this as the martha stewart of Si lists lol What is something in your environment that you know to take care of on a cadence so it is well maintained (could be anything)
(ISTP) What in the FRESH HELL was this?.. Must have been a spooky Halloween video. This level of Si scares the living Se outta me... Yes, the Si monster is rEaL! I can see its drool coming from under my bed.
Thank you for this video🙏you cleared the way for me so stop thinking of the possibility to be an S dominant or auxiliary by all means😂 a step closer to define my type and stop this identity crisis I'm having within the MBTI universe😂😅
I am trying to implement something like this for years but did not succeed so far. Usually I start to lag behind the schedule and than other concerns distract me from doing it regularly. Then I recall I was planning doing it and story repeats.
I felt tired after watching this, so much sensory. (INFJ) I have to stop and have a smoke half way through doing the dishes. If I drop a sock whilst hanging out the washing I lose my shit. I lose it trying to take my shoes off and the laces end up in knots, I've torn clothing trying to get it on or off. I can only do things for so long and then I've had enough, I have to go and do something else. The sensory just kills me!
They HAVE access to Si (more than I do) but though they have access, they don't respect it. So unlike myself when an ENTP for instance decides to finally do sensory, their default path of dealing with sensory will look different than mine as I use Se.
This is very accurate, but it's not just one system. It can be several systems, all combined and interlocking, and once you know the systems well enough (likely because you're the one that built them, if you are the Si savior), you understand how neglecting any part of the whole impacts those systems. I think it's one of the reasons there's so much inherent motivation in myself to maintain those systems - I'm ultimately trying to preserve the functionality of the entire thing.
@@InternetLiJo pet beds stink and harbor a lot of dust. Maybe if the Si OCD chore queen cleaned the pet beds once per week she wouldn't have to do other chores as much.
@@claytonpayne2408 there wouldn't be enough time in the week for me to do all of that nonsense, and get anything of real productive value accomplished 🤣.
@@claytonpayne2408 I guess if you dedicated am entire day to it, but I'm just like....why.... Half the weekly could even be done biweekly, if someone handed me that list, I'd hand it back, and be saying, "sweet! I expect it to be done by Friday."..... And walk away. Unless I'm being paid good money I ain't got time for that. Lol.
As an entj with adhd I rather enjoy a deep clean . Hyper focus on that grime and play music it’s great . I would do it more often if the house I lived in was my own , and wasn’t always messy because of everyone else . But I can keep cleaning everyone’s mess Yk.
07:30 I have never related SO much with a statement. I also realized I probably live in a garbage can. I whine about basics (of which i'm not even sure anymore)
Nah I clean as Ni, as needed and often while I cook Ni style too. Food is never wasted as all items are in the pipeline (with redundancies) to be eaten or in deep freeze. My brother (ENFP) visited this weekend and offered to clean, I first turned him down (it is a bit of dominance/overcompensating thing with his 4th slot Si) but I eventually let him wipe the desk and stovetop which I would be doing soon anyway.
So apparently the way to handle leaky drains is not to just leave pots under them and call it a day... for 2 years ( I honestly thought this is what you do). I just mentioned this terrible thing I had done to an Si-minded person and they informed me that my entire cabinet probably needed to be replaced. Upon further inspection, yes, the whole thing had been water damaged. So, fix your leaks.
This video was hilarious 6:42 "how do you deep clean an area rug that's too big to fit in the washing machine? I'm guessing hose. That sounds like a lot of work." hahaha I'm with you though. Si demon baby. Deep clean washer and dryer? wash the doors? sheesh. Si is nuts. but hey, whatever keeps existential angst away... I'd also make a long a** list lol "I keep having these scary thoughts. must. keep. cleaning!" haha jk so many jokes in this one. Just know, if you ever see me deep cleaning, please ask if I'm okay. You know the answer! haha #sidemon #sijourney
My parents were controlling Si people and they would have me clean the house like that and more. Now that I am an adult with a child, a job, and going to school, I clean as it bothers me.
Do you offer personal typing ? - personally, always typed infj, I don't do maintenance. ...I really suck at emptying the dryer lint tray, or cleaning the bottom of dishwasher etc things like that. Changing lightbulbs genuinely freaks me out haha. However I'm really quite clean, every day I cleanse the bathroom (and do the toilet in between people) I never leave dishes in the sink, I do about 2 to 3 loads of laundry a day (cause I only use towels once, mind you, I don't unfold the laundry properly or sort by colors etc, just throw in with soap on cold.) I vacuum daily and swifter daily, then every Sunday all the bedding gets done, baseboards and dusting, deep clean on bathroom and floors, around sinks etc. Everything has a place in my home but that place is chaotic...as in, I don't label or put items in cute organizational boxes, but everything is out in a place. Stuff outside of drawers are "designed" to look pretty, I love doing interior decorating. Diffusers and candles going, everything has a bit of a soft but clean bohemian vibe to it. I rarely sanitize my kids toys .....I lease a condo so I don't have to do yard work. I do 4 massive cleans a year that involves more of getting rid of unused items and organizing paper/bills (which by the way is another thing just thrown in a bin in a drawer...yikes) I feel like I'm clean but not organized. I have over 4000 emails in my account unopened unorganized. Yep. Any INFJs feel this way? Would you say this is a common trait for INFJS,? Lots of love 💕
INTJ here. No way am I doing all that stuff. Although I did recently discover baseboards and that they are dusty. So, I randomly clean one when I have a free minute and happen to notice a baseboard in my line of sight.
As an intuitive, I have always said to my guests who came over "I'm so grateful you came!! I wouldn't have cleaned the house if no one came by..." I thank them because I get to enjoy top-notch cleanliness and tidiness for about a week before it turns back into a pig sty.
lmao I have said exactly the same thing numerous times 😂 -another intuitive
I can't do Si without having a sensory distraction, like music, to actually complete the task and enjoy it. It then becomes therapeutic because I'm not mentally engaging with the sensory. Without it, I'll stop and find something more Ni to do with the rest of my time. But yeah..... this is a great example of how Si manifests itself differently than Ni within the sensory.
I'm with you on that! Listening to a class on audio helps a lot. Either that or I distract myself with the challenge of doing as much as I can in 30 mins so then I can say I'm done. 😆
@@InternetLiJo Lol I give myself 30 minutes too if it's something I absolutely don't wanna do
Yeaa thats a good summary :D
Same I agree completely !
Here's how I maintenance my home:
1.) Realize things aren't going to last forever.
XD
I feel that haha 😆
Honestly, owning a house is a massive responsibility. Have you ever cleaned gutters? That's a thing you have to do.
@@dacksonflux Don't have to clean gutters if your house doesn't have gutters.
900 IQ move. >:D
SLAY THE DRAGON... chase the tail. Don't let it get away.
Love it.
This is the funniest comment here😂
The self-help term is *eat the spider* first thing in the morning.
Takes the most willpower so best to do it before you run out for the day.
I had to pause several times bcs I was getting exhausted just thinking about doing that
- ENTP
Doing laundry is the bane of my existence. I took have had to pause multiple times to sort of "catch my breath" I do some of these things on a YEARLY basis MAYBE
INTJ here who just realized I need to hire an introverted sensing maid!! Problem solved.
As an INFP I totally agree. That was my first thought after watching this video! 😆
#1 cleaning hack right there!!! 😆
ENTJ here who has always said this. Don't know if I should choose ISFJ or ISTJ though 🤔
"as if she actually lives there" hahah that got me 😆
I kinda relate to this.
Yeah!! You got that Si not too far away!!
And paperwork is scary... I'm with you there.
Yes this is me too!
I wonder if the Ne makes it hard to stop once you got the momentum going... I can relate as an INTP. Super hard to get going, but once I do, I can just go go go.
Same Ne momentum issue... INFP here, how do u get rid of this 😫
My ISFJ mother does some of the deep cleaning chores on those lists, like washing doors and knobs, on a weekly basis, and she demands collaboration from everybody in the house.
The amount of detail overwhelms my Ni and Ti.
As an ENFP, I can see how powerful and useful Si can be. I have tasted how it feels to use it properly. I'm also willing to learn/know more. Thank you, Lindsay, for shedding some light on it.
Tasted how to use it properly- yesss! As someone with more access to the function than I do, that makes so much sense.
LOL.
INTJ goes to Home Depot: "Hi, I'm looking for the thing that is not quite the floor, but not quite the wall..."
And the proper term is floor moulding (at least I think that's what you're talking about). Baseboards exist, but they are heaters that run along where the wall meets the floor. Not all houses have baseboards, but all houses have floor moulding (at least they should).
Trigger moment for me:
"Apparently people do this and maybe it's something I need to do as well."
NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Yeah! It’s a good baseline to know what to reference, and then use your intuition to figure out what will be workable for you.
Dust.... is the confetti of hell.
😆
My Si expectations
Stereotype:Neat freak
Reality:Lazy slob
"Clean out the fridge." HA! I don't have any food in my refrigerator! Checkmate.
(Not the decorative one)
Soak it in the washer with whatever you prefer, for 1/2 hrs or so, then wash it.
Maintenance mechanics also comes to mind. I bet lots of Si users do some sort of maintenance as a job or career.
“Let’s get this house clean and started” 👍
Ya can’t escape it but u can put on a playlist and try to get everything done before it’s over
(Also I have to say that I prefer the si way over the se way here.
My wife is an ISTJ and she is a great and very tidy cleaner!
Out of context: I am loving the background.
I love cleaning everyday 🥰
Just paid to have the downstairs cleaned and it was worth every cent.
Heck yeah - thats the real vibe
I'm at 2:36 and I had to pause already 3 times bcs I'm overwhelmed with so many things to do, omg
Edit: I have to admit, a tear escaped my eye. I was just imagining myself doing all of those and I just...... Idk what to say, I was laughing all the time. U know that pain-laughter? That one!

Everyone I know with first or second Si is so good at cleaning, it's unreal.
As an intj I do all of this especially the washing doors part 🥴 of course this is when I have time
INTJ married to INTP and we have lots of kids so I had to learn the hard way that keeping up with things just realy helps making life run more smootly.
Infp 5 minutes in: oh. my. god.
NO 😂
At the end I just heard you talking but couldn't keep up with what you're saying until you mentioned the hose. I stayed with you till the end for the algo 🤓😄
Thanks for your effort, it is truly miraculous in how many ways I can waste my time in this short timespan of me being in a human form.
I really needed to hear this. Thank you for making the world make sense.
ISFJ here. I have checklists of weekly, every other week, monthly, and quarterly tasks related to home cleaning/organization. I feel so called out 😂
I once saw a car driving with a decal for their business on it. It said something like "merry maids. It's a broom life" lol I immediately thought "ESFJs must be in there" haha ISFJs too perhaps. They might have been on their way to pick you up haha God bless you all
Omg I've seen this company too!! The it's a broom life slogan was too funny. I guess their advertising is working ahaha
@@88TotalKeyz haha right? maybe they are nationwide.
We are so inspired by you!
This is awesome 😲. A new appreciation for the "s" 🙌🏽
Right?! Me too!
Ah, children... forcing Si upon even the most unwilling participants!
Same; am ENFP with ADHD and 2 kids and cat; I have adopted the philosophy from Rose Mulligan's poem "Dust if you Must" and never looked back.
Infp here ❤ i hate doing anything that is detail oriented or takes more than 15 min.
3:10 "oh the flow of this drain is slightly less than optimal" 😂
Hahahah 😎
for many years I had 4 things - cat box, toilet bowl (+ bathroom sink + tub), empty trash, and vac the critters around the under edge of the kitchen counter.
Window washer bots?!?!?!? **runs to google**
@@InternetLiJo XD
I take off work on the first day of the equinoxes and solstices to clean and mostly procrastinate in between...
As an intj I hire someone to come clean every two weeks
I'm all in on this too.
Btw.: Washing doors can make a huge difference, I think my wife has never done that. :D
I am INTP and I hate, hate cleaning. Just the thought of it drains the energy out of me but once I do it I go hard and once I get everything cleaned I feel soooo proud of my self. It's like an on and off switch and the cleaning part of me is always off but once I flip the switch on it's on.
Yeah I'm not sold on it being an Si thing since we have reasonably high Si in the INTP stack.
I’m guilty of doing majority of those things. 😆 I pay very close attention to detail. I don’t do some of it only because I can’t physically but I get someone else to do it for me. There are only a couple of the things mentioned that I only do on an as needed basis.
Let's just acknowledge the fact that high Si users are the reason buildings don't fall apart in terms of maintenance.
Cant wait to watch this one
I didn't know oven vents had filters...
this explains some things.
This is gonna be good
Late but YT recommended this to me, probably because I recently told someone that cleaning and doing paper work will be what kills me.
Oh that’s right aren’t you in some surgical field Kimberly?! Guess you have to be pretty keen on the Si procedures there, ah!
@@InternetLiJo in triplicate 😉
You mentioned your mom is ENTJ. What are you?
I'm also ENTJ and I wouldn't be able to do what your mom did. Maybe it's because I'm ADHD. But your mom has Ni and not Si, so how did she do it?
@@MsTammy55 INTJ
@@MsTammy55 Imagine an army General commanding troops ( children) at the crack of dawn, with a no negotiation agenda and you are there. I think this habit was placed in her by her father. He was very stern and meticulous.
I thought I was quite clean until I watched this. I'm a bad lead Si, I don't do most of these things nearly as often as I should and a few of them not at all.
Laura I'm sure you still have most of us beat!! I like to think of this as the martha stewart of Si lists lol
What is something in your environment that you know to take care of on a cadence so it is well maintained (could be anything)
You look so neat on camera, i would've thought you were a clean-freak🤣 Are you telling me those hexagones on your wall are dustfull?🤣🤣
Hexagons are clean because they’ve only been up for about 3 months. I’ll take the vacuum to them soon lol
@@InternetLiJo LOL😆
Those matte black glasses are 🔥 where did you get those?
Looking gooooood🙀
Any upcoming plans for a video on shadow functions? :D
My ex is a istj and i respect this about him, but its draining also.
Though I'm getting better at it..
Entp
What are your thoughts on si in INTPs and ENTPs, how does it manifest in these 2 types? i NEED to hear about your thoughts!
They HAVE access to Si (more than I do) but though they have access, they don't respect it. So unlike myself when an ENTP for instance decides to finally do sensory, their default path of dealing with sensory will look different than mine as I use Se.
I think that Si see house as some kind of system, and they maintain that system by regular cleaning.
@@lemmondrop239 That is very nice, I enjoyed your explanation of the process.
That uptight but they only clean the pet bed once per year?
Great point!! I clean mine way more often.
@@InternetLiJo pet beds stink and harbor a lot of dust. Maybe if the Si OCD chore queen cleaned the pet beds once per week she wouldn't have to do other chores as much.
I thought cleaning was supposed to reduce stress? This is some uptight OCD type stuff. Who's chore list is this?
I agree 😂
I feel this list was a bit extreme 🤣. Most of the weekly should really be reassigned to monthly, or left to the high si user to do.
Right?! I was thinking that there wouldn't be enough dust/grunge build up to justify doing everything in that list weekly.
@@claytonpayne2408 there wouldn't be enough time in the week for me to do all of that nonsense, and get anything of real productive value accomplished 🤣.
@@ThomasSteed Time? You must not be an Se user. jk 😉
But seriously though, you'd have to have mad cleaning skillz to get that done in a week.
Lol.
Haha I think it's nice to know where the high bar is so I can be aware of how low I'm crawling under it. You know? 😆

That sounds like a lot of work." hahaha
I'm with you though. You know the answer! haha

This is like.... Survival 101
I do 4 massive cleans a year that involves more of getting rid of unused items and organizing paper/bills (which by the way is another thing just thrown in a bin in a drawer...yikes)
I feel like I'm clean but not organized. I have over 4000 emails in my account unopened unorganized. Yep.
Any INFJs feel this way?
Would you say this is a common trait for INFJS,?
Lots of love 💕
I didn't even know....there was an oven vent haha 😂
