Black Sabbath is one of those bands that I've never grown weary of over the years, and they still give me goosebumps. Nothing quite like it. That said, I'm in a band with two other guys (for the last 20 years) and we've just recently gotten round to playing the nearly 8 minute long 'War Pigs' by Black Sabbath, and I didn't think we could do it, but we've got the song going now - it's a huge and unexpected bucket-list for me personally to play the Iommi parts for that classic song. Black Sabbath only gets better with age it seems, so pat yourself on the back for finding them and discovering the indelible vibe.
Ronnie James Dio one of, if not, the nicest frontman in rock n' roll history. He loved and respected us the fans. He would sign autographs for hours after shows and if you were lucky enough to meet and have a conversation with him like I did, you'd walk away knowing he was one of the most caring human beings there were. He wasn't just a great performer and voice we lost, but a great human. We miss you Ronnie. Keep singing and entertaining the universe.
This was the 2nd version of Black Sabbath w/ (late) vocalist Ronnie James Dio, who had a turbulent history w/ the band (But they made peace and worked together before he passed away in 2010) Black Sabbath was formed in Birmingham, England in the late 60's by the original line-up of Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass) and Bill Ward (drums)... They debuted in 1970 and pioneered what became the heavy metal/ hard rock genre (alongside Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple... 3 UK bands known as the 'Unholy Trinity') making heavy rock music w/ dark lyrics about the grim side of life... Black Sabbath dominated the 70's but drug and alcohol abuse hampered their creativity and popularity by 1979... That year, Ozzy Osbourne was fired; he would go on to launch a successful solo career in the 80's and beyond... Meanwhile, Black Sabbath hired former Rainbow singer Ronnie James Dio and found renewed popularity w/ their 1980 album 'Heaven and Hell'... Unfortunately, drummer Bill Ward didn't fancy the new Sabbath and quit the band; American drummer Vinny Appice did the tour and joined the band for another album 'Mob Rules' in 1981... However, clashes between band members resulted in Ronnie James Dio leaving Black Sabbath in 1982 and forming his own band Dio in 1983 w/ Vinny Appice on drums. Ronnie James Dio briefly reunited w/ Black Sabbath in 1992 for a 3rd album 'Dehumanizer'... but quit again in 1993 after refusing to open for Ozzy Osbourne... Thankfully, Ronnie made peace w/ Iommi and Butler by 2006 and began touring w/ drummer Vinny Appice under the name Heaven and Hell... They released 1 album in 2009 ('The Devil you know') before Ronnie James Dio was diagnosed w/ cancer and passed away in 2010. In 1983, Black Sabbath recorded 1 album 'Born Again' w/ Deep Purple vocalist Ian Gillan... After that, the band went their separate ways. In 1986, guitarist Tony Iommi reformed Black Sabbath w/ all-new members and recorded 'Seventh Star' w/ former Deep Purple bassist Glenn Hughes on vocals but that fell apart quickly... Hughes was fired and Ray Gillen (vocals) did the tour but was fired before the next album was recorded. In 1987, Tony 'Cat' Martin (vocals) joined Black Sabbath but his albums failed to sell commercially and by 1996, Black Sabbath was playing clubs just to promote their music. In 1997, the long-awaited reunion of Black Sabbath w/ Ozzy Osbourne finally happed as Tony Iommi (guitar) and Geezer Butler (bass) performed on Ozzy's Ozzfest '97 festival tour as Black Sabbath... Bill Ward (drums) rejoined that year for a full reunion of the original band and released a double live album 'Reunion' in 1998. Black Sabbath toured routinely on Ozzfest tours in the 2000's... and a new album '13' was finally completed in 2013 (Drummer Bill Ward declined to participate due to financial issues) and Black Sabbath w/ Ozzy, Iommi and Butler opted to end their career in 2017 w/ a final tour dubbed 'The End'.
Loved watching your reaction to Dio's voice. I know everyone reacts to it, but you should watch Stargazer by Rainbow (DIO on vocals)the live version will blow you away. Look forward to more SABBATH content
The reason he is refering to the 🤘 sign as meaning "Long live rockn roll" is that he was just establishing it at the time as the sign that he was gonna use and it is because of him using it that everyone is using it today, he popularrized it. Im a huge fan of Ronnie James Dio and his music has meant a lot to me and i think he is the GOAT when it comes to heavy metal singing and the ultimate frontman, he had it all.
Im definitely gonna be listening to more of Sabbath soon in reaction vids and just on my own. I looked up the sign after the vid and it came up with what you said. I already knew what it meant but it felt different with him doing the sign and also how the crowd reacted! So interesting how dio established it! Thank you for your comment x
Yesss I moved my desk right into the corner so it has its own place. Helps my mind with the order of things as well! Easier to have my chair facing so I can see into my room so the tripod etc can stand in front of the desk :)
This was when the late great Ronnie James Dio was on vocals he sang with elf he was also a singer in rainbow then Black Sabbath and they did a solo career back-to-back Sabbath and back to solo just look him up if I was to try to type in all the great songs from his career or take forever you had the Aussie era of Black Sabbath from 1970 to 79 then he went solo I fired because of substance abuse alcohol drugs
You've spoilt it for every other vocalist to feature from now on - how do you follow RJD? A: impossible! Saw RJD sing with Rainbow & Slack Haddock (that's what the crew called them), many times. You would treat your ears by hearing Roger Chapman's inimitable vocals whilst performing with the 60s/70s Rock band Family. Imagine writing 4 songs as the audience is queuing outside the venue, not only performing them unrehearsed that evening, but recording said performance for your next album release - I give you side 1 of the LP Anyway by Family. I recommend the opening track 'Good News, Bad News ' Enjoy!
He is regarded as the greatest heavy metal singer of all time even the other grapes like Rob halford of Judas Priest Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden said Ronnie James Dio was to them the most perfect heavy metal rock and roll singer you should check out this song from the rainbow era called stargazer or long live rock and roll from his solo career everything off the first album mainely rainbow in the dark and holy diver the last in line title track on that album Egypt the chains are on the name great songs by all his entire career with all his bands forever
I'm completely aware that I will get a ton of haters but here goes anyway. Dio (RIP) 😇was 10X better than Ozzie. I got to see them at a "Black and Blue" concert. (Black Sabbath and Blue Oyster Cult) and fortunately Dio was with them at the time. The only time I really liked Black Sabbath. "The world is full of Kings and Queens, who blind your eyes and steal your dreams. It's Heaven and Hell". If you haven't done it yet you MUST do "Children of the Sea" He really kills that one.
People need to stop advising reactors to do the live version of this, at least until they’ve done the studio version. It’s literally perfect and there’s no live version that touches it.
This song has been my therapy for over 40 years. It just makes you contemplate your place in the world
Such a banger. Dio is a treat lol.

More of Dio!!!!!!!
Children of the sea on the same album is great as well. 'Heaven and Hell' is a masterpiece.
