    The story behind this model is almost more fascinating than the model itself. I'm just glad to see it still exists.

      It really is. Now that we've found the "treasure", the only real work is to unravel the mystery of where it is been.

    This seems to be another circumstantial piece towards my theory that the 3 footer was dumped into this storage locker because the heat was getting to be too much for someone.
    Basically, someone did someone a favor at some point, and the trick now is to find out where the trail leads back to. If Darren's photo is real and was getting circulation in circles, that might've been enough to cause someone to panic and put the model in the storage unit.
    And that's another thing: Why is it suddenly so hard to say who were the previous renters of this unit and why did they stop paying?

    • @Starshipsforever
      @Starshipsforever 12 днів тому +2

      We may never know for sure. If the Dochterman photo is real, it could well have caused people to panic for fear of being outed as the thieves, and indeed arranged for it to be dumped in the unit until the heat was off.
      And that being the case, I suspect whoever rented the unit died. Or here's another angle... it was deliberately dumped there without a way to trace it back so it would be found there eventually when the rent stopped being paid.

  • @Starshipsforever
    @Starshipsforever 12 днів тому +1

    I left a comment with Mike, but it occurs to me that the model was not simply dumped just because the model was getting to be too hot a potato to hold onto, but rather someone died or was getting nervous, didn't want to trash the model. So they told someone to put it in the storage unit they knew was going to stop having rent paid on it in a year, and so the model would not only be untraceable to them, but that the intent was that it would be found by someone.

      Your scenario is almost certainly part of the solution. The lawyer for the Sellers reached out to me and we talked about an hour on this, the history of the storage unit, the law, and a bunch of interesting facts. I'm compiling the comments and will probably have another update in a week or so. I never cease to be amazed at how folks continue to track me down and reach out to me to discuss things like this. Jinkies! You're the man... not since Clarice Starling went through "Hester Mofet's" things has a humble storage unit been at the center of such a mystery ... ;)

    All of this is bizarre. I have trouble believing that the buyers of the storage unit looked at a model of the Enterprise (it's name is on it), and didn't know what it was. I'm sorry, but I just have a very hard time with that. It's literally the most famous fictional spaceship.

    I wonder if Dan Monroe knows anything? He's more of a Lost In Space guy but he's been plugged into the model making scene long enough that he might know something or knows the right person who might know something. 🤔

    • @TREK-WORLD
      @TREK-WORLD  14 днів тому +1

      To be honest, Dan is much more of a professional producer. Which means he has folks working with him to help produce the scripts, edit videos, design artwork, etc. He could very well have some solid contacts that could be helpful - but none of the professional Star Trek folks in Hollywood or Toronto seem to knwo about him when I mention him in passing. And believe it or not; it is harder for me to get the attention of another content creator on UA-cam then it was for me to get introduced to the Hollywood folks over the past three years. Content creators like myself seem to throw their time and effort into producing their content anf have very little time for collaboration with other creators. It's sad really.

      There is always the possibility that the photo was faked, or it tried to pass a reproduction off as the real thing. But the fact that Darren saw the photo, and then later saw the real thing lends more credence to the photo being of the actual model. What makes the photo so vitally important is that Kodak always put a date stamp on their photos from the 1960s onward. So unless it is a polaroid, it will be easy to date and yield the best new evidence we've seen on the model.

      I was just thinking about: if the photo was taken from a film camera instead of a digital camera, that would explain why it took so long for it to come out (someone finished the roll of film before taking the roll to be developed).

      @@TREK-WORLD I just made a comment on this. Let me expound a bit further and suggest that the photo was *intentionally* leaked to "the right people" after the model was dumped in the storage unit so that someone would be looking out for it when the rent stopped getting paid and the items in it went up for auction.

    I figured the model still existed, I think the reason it disappeared was Gene. He wanted to keep it out of the studio's hands, for whatever reason(most likely money). I think he knew where it was.
    This was the last big Trek mystery for me. The stories of props is truly fascinating, so many props said destroyed. Suddenly turn up, didn't Gene's son say something about destroying this model. How many other guys make something up, because they have no idea. Or just want to spin a few yarns for attention. I'm waiting for Uncle Martian's Y-Job to show up. I saw it in person in the 70's, Doug Drexler has a reproduction(last I heard). I asked him about the original, he said he didn't know.
    I'm surprised so many guys just trust the net for info, there is whole continents of info out there that isn't online. But everything ends at a mouse click.

      There's an interactive nature with social media that facilitates discussion and research if used properly. You're correct that we shouldn't believe everything we see on the net. But we *should* leverage the net to acquire new information through research. When looking at things like Memory Alpha, or Archive.org, or wikipedia, internet forums (Trek BBS, TrekPlace, etc) - you are limited in only seeing their point of view and you have very little chance of gaining viewers' feedback and stories. But just on my little channel alone, in the past 12 months, almost 2 million people watched a video, or a livestream, or participated in the Community page. Those same viewers identified themselves as Hollywood professionals, doctors, astronauts, Wall Street financiers, movie stars' family members, authors, & journalists from all walks of life. These are folks who would never in a million years come into contact with each other. Yet, here on this channel, the whole 6 degrees of separation model proves itself over and over again. And it's only by utilizing social media as a research tools and not a "squawk box" that these kind of connections and the information that they know can be shared with others.

      @@TREK-WORLD Funny I've been finding as late the net isn't as good a research tool as in years past. That's due to manipulation of search engines, etc. I miss the days when no matter what you searched for, you got a porn site back. Not for the porn mind you, but the chuckle factor. I had far better luck in the old days of the message boards, making contacts and finding info. But I have ne interest in creating a youtube channel. I had a lot of stuff happen that drove me out of my love for Star Trek. I can say it was the fans. But that is another story.

    • @TREK-WORLD
      @TREK-WORLD  12 днів тому

      Trust me.... I feel your pain when it comes to the current "sites" available to us today. It's extremely rare that they would surface something useful. I spend over 80% of my research time sifting through the left over remnants of sites that have long left us behind. In fact, I spent last weekend prying into an old site that used flash for every media item they posted. Ouch! I have to use custom tools in Linux just to get at the media files. Also - I am sorry about your fan experience. I wish I could say something to reassure you of the fans today. But I can't. The vast majority are really nice people. But the loud nasty ones that have appointment themselves as the "Keeper of The Roddenberry Legacy" are borderline psychotic.

    • @Starshipsforever

      I doubt it. There's no indication that Paramount wanted the model back, and no reason for Gene to have risked the model, if he believed it would be taken away from him after it had been gifted to him in 1973-74 while he was working on TAS and then Planet of the Titan as well as other attempts to revive the Trek franchise.
