How I trim and price Flax [ English Audio ]

Since those cut leaves are never going to grow back and will be dead soon wouldn't you want to prune the plant even further back so all you see is the new growth?

Yep with Flax you have to cut low diagonally out ways, so the water flows off the plant. Keep the 3 main stalks per bushel unless they are rotting, for regrowth.
That's what I learnt from my grandmother many years ago as a kid. Over many years of Weaving harakeke (flax)

Cut them at the base with a curved surrated saw. Bundle them tight with a string first.

That is so not how to prune harekeke. You keep the centre leaves and it's two parents and the rest can be cut back on a 45° if you want you leave the grandparent leaves on too.
