I love this pond! One suggestion, perhaps you could build an overhead sump so that all your filtration happens in one place rather than a bunch of different filters. You could also then make the return into a little waterfall that trickles back into the pond!
This is one of the best pond I have seen bro. Too many filters and also aquaponic. No wonder why pond water is so clear. Great share and lovely Goldies 👍
A surface skimmer actually goes a long way towards keeping it looking clear. It stops stuff building up on the surface which lowers the oxygen level and encourages algae growth. Annoyingly no one makes skimmers for small ponds though so you have to DIY it, or use a large aquarium one.
I've seen you post this pond on reddit, I'm so glad I stumbled across this video. I'm trying to talk my husband into bringing our pond in during the winter so maybe this will help! We do bring in the fish, but they go into an aquarium. The plant you were unsure of in your betta tank is a Java fern, looks like a narrow leaf Java fern to me. Lovely tank!
@Sean-ll5cm yeah i noticed that too, for some reason water related animals are always male dominated while things like hamsters are very female dominated
Normally im not a fan of these indoor ponds, cause people dont do good lighting and stuff. But this one is really good. You can still see the fish and even the plants in it :) Maybe you wanna cover the outside with these bamboo mats, would look even better.
First time seeing this project, looks incredible! haven't seen many indoor ponds look good. you have done a great job making it look natural with all the anubias and pothos. the only thing i would suggest would be to add some surface agitation, bubbles from sponge filters do very little to aerate the water btw the white ebay filters often sell under the name Sun-Sun if anyone if interested.. they are quality filters for the money.
I breed goldfish specifically orandas and i got a couple of these 300gal. My filtration is just spongefilters(lots of them) i got very low nitrates and other toxins in the water very low by doing water chages(30% every 2 days). Also just placed lots of bio media ad plants within the stock tank. Also Changed the drainage into a pvc setup to be drained to the grass for easy water changes. I keep my stock tanks like this is because im constantly breeding and selling the fish. This pond setup absolutely blows me away its so amazing! Your fish are very happy living there.
I am so glad you address question 4: it was my first question (what is the aquarium in the middle). This is an innovative set-up, you are enormously creative and your fish are fortunate to be cared by you. Also, thank you for being so detailed about the products you use and where you acquired them - especially the grow light. 👍👍👍Well done! This video is quite a treasure. Urban dwellers are always seeking to benefit from viewing videos like yours which show how you can have a pond when you may not have the outside space or may not want it outside because of predators. Personally, I would do this in my sunroom as I live near a a wildlife reserve and there are too many predators to contend with for a pond in my yard.
I have my Butterfly Koi in my room. I actually had to tear apart my closet to fit a 110 gallon acrylic tank for her. I'm very protective of SHADOW 💋 she was the smallest (4.5 inch) from nose to tail, of the koi I received last Summer and the only one to survive out of 16. It's just an ongoing process getting bigger tanks. 💜
I have no idea how this popped up, but this is the absolute perfect solution to my indoor tank issues. Thank you for describing and showing everything you have setup. AWESOME !!
With all that filtration you shouldn't have any problems with nitrates or ammonia. Nice job. Yea, no heater necessary for goldfish or koi. The bettas on the other hand should be at about 72 F minimum. Or room temperature. That's a java fern in the betta tank on the rock. You could stock a lot more fish in the 300 once the filter has seasoned. The 3 canister filters will do the job along with the plants and aquaponics. Algae is good in a pond. Just not hair algae , can be unsightly. Regular algae makes pond sides look more natural and feeds off the fish waste. Keep it up and keep learning.
Dartist64 Rocks Yes bettas were kept at 80 in there. Nitrates do spike a bit with the huge goldfish I have, at least if I don’t do 50% water change every week.
OMG! I See you on Fish Tank Enablers! So glad you have a UA-cam, your goldfish pond is such an inspiration. At the moment I have a 150 gallon heated outdoor pond with some koi I'm growing out and some Ranchus. This season, I want to get some Ryukins and Orandas... Also I have to make a point about that Pothos, I love it! We have them growing out of several of our tanks too!
Nice little pond....thinking about doing something like this but can’t decide where....in Cleveland doesn’t make sense to do outside just for 3 months or so....we have a big ranch so no basement....we’ll figure something out....very nice young lady....thanks for the ideas and inspiration🌱👍
soooooo refreshing to see someone who understands a goldfishs needs!! they should never be in aquariums, absolutley stunning indoor pond, love it and so jealous lol
I just seen alot of homemade ponds on UA-cam but I was looking for one just like yours thank you so much for sharing. I just bought 4 little koi and didnt know they grow so much but I'm doing alot of search they're in a 50 gallons tank for now
Amazing setup, but wanted to say that those UV lights on the SunSun filters tend to literally destroy the filter from the inside, if the UV lights are left on for long periods of time, it will begin to eat away at the plastic trays since its such a low-grade plastic, other than that issue SunSuns are imo the best bang for your buck, I personally have a 704b on my 75 gallon and the water is always crystal clear.
Great goldfish pond, to help control your nitrates you might want to have one of your filters flow through the flower box with the lava rock. Lava rock can be a good nitrate (anaerobic) filter as well as aerobic filter.
Hey Bailey. Inspired by you, i purchased a black tank 4x2.5x2 feet and i just put 100 gallon in that tank. I purchased my first ever betta ( growing up, i hate loner fish lol) and he constantly patrolling the tank. Rarely hiding and swimming about like he's wandering inside a huge mansion.
Nice job.. I really enjoy looking at other peoples ponds and fish. I have 4 koi ponds and a fish room with multiple tanks. My ponds are surrounded by decking and trees. If you would like to view them that's great. If not that's ok too. Thanks again for sharing and take care.
Try some duckweed it does grow like crazy but goldfish love it . I was told that goldfish and koi need it for cover and food and filtering and cheap and easy. I'm about to put it in mine.
very interesting set up. I like the way you have the pathos around the edges. Looks really good. I do not see any gfi for safety. That is a worry. Recently I got a very pretty female betta. I am very happy with her and she is in my community tank, 37 gallons and no one bothers her. Pretty heavily planted for hiding. I have a hard time with being on a carpet. Looks nice but carpet?? All in all I am very impressed. I have a six hundred gallon stock tank sunk in the ground outside and my gold fish live there in the good weather. In winter we have a tremendous amount of rain and wind living on the Oregon coast so I move them to my one hundred gallon on the covered deck.
I have the same thing. I bought the rubbermaid from Tractor Supply for $250. My setup, however, is sitting outside on South florida Florida where temps dont get much below 40. I have 2 sump filters that get so much sunlight they have algea growing in it.
Love your pond, this was my plan then thought cheaper possible due to funds so I changed my mind to a ibc water tank then a 2.6 meter intex frame pool off amazon 70 then I decided to get pond liner for 45 pound 💷 and build a frame cheapest way I found lol, made my filtration too :)
You are edging closer towards low fish density aquaponics. For a flood/drain gravel based system without solids removal... you can feed about 13g per square meter of veggies growing per day. I just have a single 25W water pump for my whole system ($21 per year in power). A 150gal Rubbermaid tank like yours with two 50gal stock tanks (same thing too) filled with lava rock and clay pebbles. Growing lettuce, kale, tomatoes, swiss chard, etc., etc. All running off of just 8 1yr old gold fish getting fed 4 to 6 times a day when the water gets around 75deg F. I try to keep the nitrates above 40ppm but have seen in many times higher and the gold fish were like honey badgers.
The indoor pond looks amazing, but I have noticed there is not much surface agitation? It could do with a pond pump sprinkler or a waterfall to create more oxygen.
beware these ponds can fracture.. mine cracked on the bend above the plug .. every year I have to take the torch to it to close it up. putting one in a house with carpet is dangerous. also take this how you want to.. but air stones "bad'. moving the surface water around "good". you have so much stuff on the surface it makes the water still.
Definitely to many filters :D Cut back to just one pond filter tbh. Plants also do a really good job at purifying the water. When companies recommand X size filter it's in a bare container.
Amazing indoor pond, I'd just suggest removing some of the filtration as over filtering is most deffinetly a thing. Could also be causing your nitrate issues.
your pond is very nice. also the fishes. i really like to have a pond indoor but right now i live in the apartment, there are no space for me to put the tub that big. But you are using TOO MUCH MONEY FOR THE POND. Here is my thought to lower the cost as low as 400-500 dollars for the pond. 100 dollars for the tub 60 dollars for 2 led flood light 6000 kelvin (stick to the long flat wood hanging over the ceiling. There will be the enough amount of light for your plants). 100 dollars for the external canister ( running the outlet though all of the pothos plants pot you hang on the edge of the tub, the water will bring fish poop to feed the plant, plants and the aquaponic bedding + lava rock has large surface area for bacteria to grow, there for they are a perfect filtration system for your pond naturally) 40 dollars for pothos plants ( or you can use 40 dollars to buy plenty of any herb or plants, green onion, lettuce,...) 20 dollars for air bubble (optional). woods collected anywhere you can find and bake them in the oven for 3-4 hour. soak them in water for several days to sink them. Uv light(optional). This is my idea to lower the cost, and you can have fresh lettuce, or green onion to eat. :))))
Good idea! I agree, I spent more than necessary. The only thing I would try and squeeze in which is optional is a large UV light, the algae has gotten a little overwhelming before I had it. I also hated how clogged my canister would get with my aquarium. The flood lights I did look into also, almost ended up getting them! However when I was first wanting them I wanted to get into aquaponics and needed a light I was able to lower/raise easily. Flood lights probably would’ve looked better! Everything else I have is pretty optional I agree. Some day I hope my pond can be stable enough to hold maybe one or two more fancies. :)
You can have a small 20 or 40 gallon tote container and do something similar. It shouldn't be too heavy for your apartment flooring but if you think it is, then just get an aquarium stand or table to spread out the weight.
I know this would be difficult to do because of the size but if you ever want more goldfish one day just add substrate and some type of carpeting plant
Huge amount of filtration and lovely setup. Love the plants. Can someone tell me why people like those goldfish with the deformed tumours on their heads?
Well surprisingly, I do have to do 50% every week usually on Sundays. It’s so much easier than it sounds, I leave a siphon in to drain it and go about my normal business with timers set.
The white filters are SunSun HW304 filters. The UV light should be swapped out every 9-12 months. They are generally good filters I have a few of them and I haven’t had any issues from them in the three years I had used them The clay balls or Hydroton as it’s called is much more effective biological Than just the lava rock which offers very little biological filtration. However if you swapped the red lava rock with another lava rock called Pumice the Pumice will buffer the water and it to will provide full biological filtration and with do very well pared with the Hydroton. To maximize the filtration of your both the SunSun and the Fluval filters I suggest you watch the Pondguru pimp my filter series that spotlight your specific filters. You can use the clay balls in the baskets of your canister filters. This is a beautiful pond and your fish look super healthy. I hope this info helps and good luck with your pond.
Goldfish are known to be very "dirty" fish: you can't over-filter their water. Great job!
This is how goldfish are meant to be kept. Not in bowls or 2 gallon boxes.
I disagree I have mine in a bowl and he’s doing just fine
@@Loganm.0 Thats fish abuse tho.
@@Loganm.0 at least get him a 20 gallon.
@@Fakshat1212 I’m joking lol I have a betta in a 10 gallon
@@Loganm.0 Sorry, thought you were brain dead for a second.
Have you ever considered maybe getting lily pads I just know they will add that flar to the pond !
I love this pond! One suggestion, perhaps you could build an overhead sump so that all your filtration happens in one place rather than a bunch of different filters. You could also then make the return into a little waterfall that trickles back into the pond!

Very nice ! I love 300 gallon stock tanks for gold fish and even guppies . Thanks for sharing
Use water lettuce for nitrates
Or water sprite, which lets in more light. It can be grown on the surface, although most know it as a rooted substrate plant.
This is a great pond! Congratulations
the plant you don't know is Java Fern. As you probably know it's very tough and does ok with lower light levels.

I’m personally into monster fish but I love this 😭😂 nice work
this pond is so pretty! i want it you should add a few floating plants too
Awesome pond! Recognized it from reddit
You can keep amazon sword and cripts with goldfish as well. They eat anything else.
You did such a beautiful fish tank , your fish look happy & healthy, also your plants are thriving...truly gorgeous 💖
That's incredible especially for the price.
beware these ponds can fracture.. mine cracked on the bend above the plug .. every year I have to take the torch to it to close it up. putting one in a house with carpet is dangerous. also take this how you want to.. but air stones "bad'. moving the surface water around "good". you have so much stuff on the surface it makes the water still.
Definitely to many filters :D
Cut back to just one pond filter tbh. Plants also do a really good job at purifying the water. When companies recommand X size filter it's in a bare container.

100 dollars for the tub
60 dollars for 2 led flood light 6000 kelvin (stick to the long flat wood hanging over the ceiling. There will be the enough amount of light for your plants).
100 dollars for the external canister ( running the outlet though all of the pothos plants pot you hang on the edge of the tub, the water will bring fish poop to feed the plant, plants and the aquaponic bedding + lava rock has large surface area for bacteria to grow, there for they are a perfect filtration system for your pond naturally)
40 dollars for pothos plants ( or you can use 40 dollars to buy plenty of any herb or plants, green onion, lettuce,...)
20 dollars for air bubble (optional).
woods collected anywhere you can find and bake them in the oven for 3-4 hour. soak them in water for several days to sink them.
Uv light(optional).
This is my idea to lower the cost, and you can have fresh lettuce, or green onion to eat. :))))
