    This is unbelievably simple, and your video explanations are great. You do a great job of demonstrating how to put together a nice little pond and fountain feature, without over complicating any of the process. Nicely done!

    I just love this set-up and sent the video to my husband and told him this is the one I want to build next Spring. I think we will put our baby turtles in the top part (so they don't eat the fish!), and the goldfish in the bottom. I have been able to over-winter my water plants by cutting them back and placing them on the bottom of the small pond we have now. The water lily has produced so many flowers this year! Would love to see if you have done any updates. Thanks for the great video.

    Lady Lisa, You are so spot on with all this that You are the best. I have 2 ponds and run a number of pumps with a w,fall and UV filters all is clear and with goldfish but I like to connect them to make it all as one. You have done all this so well so You need to come to Australia and give me Your approval. Fine hobby and makes You to stay home and be happy which I do well. I wish I was half as organised as You! Richard

    Lady oh Lady! This is up there with the very best and so clear an well done, a man could not come close! I did and had the pond lifting 2x! It had no outlet! Now I got it all fixed and found some small leaks years after. I am too old but like to work on it and know You are so much better than me! If I could make a video I would like You to have it but than I am not as good as yet. You are so much organised and all is loud and clear! Be proud, Australia is!

    I have the same two exact tanks that I got for my 14 inch red slider that we adopted. I was trying to figure out how to turn it into an adequate good home for her. I knew I could somehow do it but wasn't quite sure. Going to use your method but instead of a waterfall it's actually going to be a water traveling area for her to go back and forth between the two tanks. Give her plenty of room to have a good life. Your video is the best one I've seen yet on UA-cam. It was explained well, you have great common sense, and it was budgeted well. Great job. Your yard is beautiful.

      Maybe it's her weird pronunciation of the word algae, lol. Both the American and European pronunciations use a LONG E sound at the end with a silent A. Her pronunciation of algae is a language of its own, lol.

    Lady You are so good and better than me in Australia. You are hooked on this hobby and better than what I have build in the front and backyard. You explained it so well but did not mention a UV light. I have it in every pond and the water and fish are fine. I look up to You and did it all myself but of course it was addictiv work but the result is permanent I just wish I could make a video and send it to the world. You are first!

    Great pond build. I only have one comment: a U.V. sterilizer only controls free flowing algae. What the U.V. sterilizer is good for is killing harmful bacteria and protozoa. The U.V. sterilizer will not do anything for the hair or clump algae that grows on everything. To control that the plants you have will eat the nutrients the algae would need, limiting the algae growth. Also shading the pond with plants or whatever reduces the light the algae needs to grow.

    I am putting in a raised rigid preformed pond. Since my ground is so rocky, I figured this was the best way to go and since doing some digging, my handyman dug down to part of the septic tank! So that's where the pond is resting. I used the exact pavers you used, down to the red color, and my pond is also resting on one side of the deck, and a wooden walkway on the other side. I am not going to put in fish, so hopefully my 80 gallon size will suffice in drawing frogs & toads, as they will have those pavers as access steps and I am putting in water plants also with a pump & fountain & frog spitter. Your video gave hope that they will find their way to the raised pond, and I was glad to see the little toad sitting on the rim of your pond. Thanks for the great ideas!

    • @lisaj8599
      @lisaj8599  7 років тому

      Lovey Lynn The frogs will find your pond because the sound of water from the splitter will attract them. Watch for them (or just listen) the first hard rain in late spring as soon as it is warm. Also, if you will have no fish, don't forget mosquito dunk. It has never harmed our toads or tadpoles. Enjoy!

    • @lisaj8599
      @lisaj8599  7 років тому

      Ps... the toads will eventually take up residence between your pavers. They love living near the water. At the moment we have hundreds of baby frogs hopping around our yard. We have to walk slowly and watch where we step to avoid stepping on any!

    • @loveylynn4794
      @loveylynn4794 7 років тому

      Thanks for your reply Lisa... I live in the Rochester New York area.. I know it's a little late in the season, August 4th, but do you think I may still attract some frogs/toads? I do have some little toadletts running around - I always try to relocate them around to where they will be safe, but unfortunately, do have garter snakes in the area. Have you ever had predators bother your pond at all? My fear is the garters - as they like water AND frogs/toads :( I guess only time will tell. I love your upgrade to a 300 gallon - what a great idea. I do intend to have a pond filter & 2 water features, but adding mosquito dunk won't hurt.

    • @lisaj8599
      @lisaj8599  7 років тому

      Lovey Lynn I live in southeast TX near HOU. I was going to tell you it's too late for frogs to lay eggs, but then we had a week with a steady but short downpour each day. By the 3rd or 4th day the frogs were out and left another million eggs (or so it seems when they first hatch into tadpoles). Yes, we have had a snake visitor that took a toll on our frog population. We used something I believe was called Snake be Gone. It was granules that I sprinkled sparingly within the pavers and around the perimeter of the pond and yard. Haven't spotted it since. My only effort to help the toads is to provide as much hiding spots as possible by grooming shrubs only at the top and leaving the foliage dense at the ground.

    • @loveylynn4794
      @loveylynn4794 7 років тому

      Lisa J - Just spotted my first garter snake lurking around the pavers!! I chased it away with the hose. I did put in some minnows & small feeder goldfish in the pond - I guess the stinking snakes would get them if they could :( I just ordered some snake be gone, too!

    • @lisaj8599
      @lisaj8599  7 років тому

      Yes, I'm sure Canadian winters are much colder than Texas winters. However, with the smaller pond, one winter we had a 1" layer of ice for several days. We turned off the pumps before the freeze, and I went out several times a day and hammered a hole through the ice. Not sure if that was necessary, but living in south Texas doesn't give much opportunity to learn these things. Most important, all our goldfish survived.

    Why did you not just buy a liner as the fish will outgrow this also .I have an almost 5000 galoon pond and started with a preformed pond and went bigger each time I rebuilt .I used a 45 mill liner .I also have a 300 gallon stock tank and 2 100 gallon stock tank for plants and for baby fish I give away every year.use sump pump hose it ios much cheaper .I have been using it for years now .I use a bio filter but I know that those pressure filters need protected in the winter and from water hitting the outside .pl roofing goop would work

    • @lisaj8599
      @lisaj8599  9 років тому +2

      We live in the city. This is as big as our space will allow. The only time we have to be cautious with the pressure filter we used is in the spring when we get tadpoles by the thousands. We remove the filters so the tadpoles don't get trapped in them.

    • @sissymurphy9620
      @sissymurphy9620 8 років тому

      I have the same problems with tadpoles .In heat you need tall to keep the water cooler .Since you don't have room i guess you did what you can with your space .But at least you are enjoying your ponds and that is all that matters .:)
