    I love that Shuri scoffed at Ramonda earlier in the movie when she described the breeze feeling like T'Challa's hand was on her shoulder and that "he was there". In the end when Shuri is smiling and reminiscing of her brother, you can see the palm trees blowing in the wind as well as her hair being moved by it. Just a beautiful shot, and a full circle moment to bring it all together.

      I feel like some of the emotion is a little undercut by the fact we know that there are canonically a near-infinite amount of afterlives in the MCU, we've physically visited three of them. The pathos in real life comes from the unknowable of what lies beyond. In the MCU, all of Shuri's family are chilling out on the Ancestral Plane waiting for her to join them for eternity & believing that is not a leap of faith that Shuri has to take, it's simply a knowledge she has to gain. That cheapens it a little somehow.

      @John Alexander She took an artificial herb and didn't adhere by the customs of becoming a Black Panther, so she has been denied being able to go there. They're retconning his death by having his son have the exact same name so they can justify a recast in-universe.

    • @markcruz359
      @markcruz359 Рік тому +3

      @@StopReadingMyNameOrElseIts neither retcon or a recast. The original script was meant to be a father and son story. Becoming a Black Panther is usually passed down from father to child. T'chaka passed down the mantle of Black Panther to T'challa around the time of the first Iron Man movie(as mentioned in a prelude comic). In Shuri's case its passed down from brother to sister via death.
      The waterfall fight challenge is only a custom to give the other tribes an opportunity to agree or disagree with who has been chosen as the new ruler. It is not needed to become a Black Panther

      @Mark Cruz I didn't mean the fight, I meant the burying. She used an unnatural herb and didn't do any of the proper rituals. The ancestors didn't respect her decision to essentially "cheat" to get the powers. The same reason Killmonger only saw his traitor father, and how he was stuck in his childhood home.

    In the comics, T'Chala found that he couldn't balance being King of Wakanda as well as the Black Panther. He ultimately decided to focus on the throne while passing the mantle of Black Panther to Shuri. Since that arc was no longer possible, it makes sense that M'Baku would take the throne in place of T'Chala

    Shuri decided not to be Queen & instead allow Mbaku to be the public face of Wakanda as King, while she protects Wakanda's interests as Black Panther. Oh & Namor's motivations at the end were totally meant to be ambiguous, your confusion is 100% intentional on the part of the writers.

    • @greyscalesx
      @greyscalesx 11 місяців тому +2

      Ambiguous? He was very clear in his intentions which he stated verbally since the beginning. 'I want wakanda to become an ally and wage war against the surface' & 'for talokan to remain a secret'
      And it went exactly his way.
      If they opposed him he would destroy them, but he knows very well being centuries old how war and loss works.
      And understood that shuri would not sacrifice her ppl and keep their secret in the end.
      The USA already thinks the wakandans are the ones who attacked and killed their military at sea.
      Shuri made a deal to protect the secret of their existence.
      What do you think will happen when wakandans say 'we didn't attack you' and they respond ' no one else has vibranium, so it can only be you'
      Wakandans can't possibly out talokan.
      This means the USA will believe either wakandans attacked them or they are lying about trading vibranium.
      They will band with other nations to attack wakanda, this as an excuse, the end game is to get Vibranium and lower the military power of a strong nation.
      Wakanda has already been weakened, it will need back up of the only other nation they know has vibranium and willing to wage war in the surface.
      Which is what Namor predicted.
      And what have you ? Like I said, he said from the beginning 'I want Wakanda and Talokan as allies to wage war against the surface' which is what will happen. Then it'll come full circle

    There was in fact a deleted scene where Queen Ramonda met little T'Challa. However, after Angela Bassett and the crew filmed the scene, they decided against it in the final cut for obvious reasons. It was a heartwarming scene between the Queen meeting her grandson but they saved the reveal for the end of the movie.
    If you go back actually to when Ramonda went to see Nakia, little T'Challa was one of the boys who briefly greeted her.

    Shuri was definitely trained. Queen romanda was the leader of the Dora milage at one point, and with her family being the black panthers, it’s safe to assume she’s had ample training. Also she was apart of both the fights against kill monger and thanos in end game.

  • @nintenmetro
    @nintenmetro Рік тому +29

    In the original script, T’Challa’s son would’ve had a more prominent role. Valentina also would have been a secondary antagonist.
    However, plans for Namor were pretty much the same. In fact, Namor is a member of the comics’ version of the Illuminati. They decided to not include him in the Illuminati that we met in the Multiverse of Madness as they had other plans for him - those plans including Wakanda Forever.
    This may be an unpopular opinion, but I feel like Nakia is as much to blame as Ramonda for sparking a war between Wakanda and Talokan. Granted she was following orders, but if she had listened to Shuri and stayed for Namor to return they might have avoided a misunderstanding.
    There were even two instances when Shuri didn’t want to talk to Nakia. Shuri was mad at Nakia for not attending T’Challa’s funeral, and Nakia was calling her to clarify why.
    Regarding W’Kabi’s absence, Daniel Kaluuya had a pretty packed schedule and with so much going on they weren’t sure where to put him. Director Ryan Coogler confirmed that he’s currently banned to the outskirts of Wakanda. In the Latin Spanish dub, Ramonda said he’s in prison.
    Despite not being in the film though, there is some artwork of what W’Kabi would’ve worn if he had made it to the film.
    On a brighter note, I’m gonna miss Trevor Noah on the Daily Show but I’m glad he had more lines as Griot this time around.
    I’m personally glad this film wasn’t too funny, but Riri and M’Baku helped to bring some lightheartedness during this hard time.
    M’Baku in particular had some major character development in my opinion. Before he took that massive blow from Namor, he wasn’t looking before leaping. Then after Ramonda died, he had a lot to consider. Those traits and experiences are what will help him become the proper king that Wakanda needs going forward.
    One particular thing that I like about this movie was that we got not one but TWO indigenous actresses from Guatemala. María Mercedes Coroy (Namor’s mom) and Doña María Telón (the elder Nakia spoke to) are both from Santa María de Jesús in the Sacatepéquez Deparment. My parents are from Quetzaltenango.
    The film’s score includes edited versions for some of the soundtracks’ songs, but they didn’t add the film’s version of Alone by Burna Boy which includes an excerpt of Stormzy’s Interlude at the start of the song. In the soundtrack, both songs are separate.
    Senegalese musician Baaba Maal who provided vocals for some of the background music in Black Panther 1 and 2 got to make a cameo singing at T’Challa’s funeral.
    Josué Maychi, the actor who portrayed the shaman in the Zamá flashback, was also brought into the fold as a dialect coach for the cast. He taught them Yucatec Mayan.
    Tenoch Huerta got to reprise his role as Namor for the Latin Spanish dub.
    Riri may not have been allowed to take her suit, but that doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of them. In fact, we’re just getting started. Riri’s superhero codename is Ironheart. She’s gonna have her own series later this year.
    Valentina will also return in The Thunderbolts coming July 2024. She’s putting together a team of antiheroes. The lineup so far consists of the following:
    Bucky
    Ava Starr/Ghost
    Yelena
    Red Guardian
    Taskmaster
    John Walker/U.S. Agent
    There’s several other projects on the way, but phase six will include Fantastic Four on Valentine’s Day 2025. It’ll be directed by Matt Shakman who also directed WandaVision.
    Then we’re getting not one but TWO Avengers movies: The Kang Dynasty in May 2025 and Secret Wars in May 2026.
    The Kang Dynasty will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton who also worked on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

And for centuries it’s been that way for his people, greedy colonizers wanting their resources is why they were forced to be displaced in the ocean. It’s the whole reason he didn’t understand why wakanda would reveal their resources to the world. The reason why Wakanda could do that and namor couldn’t is because they don’t have anything to lose, they can afford flashing off their resources. Great reaction! One of the things that gets me about this film is Namor got their version of the Herb when he was still in the womb, instead of a ceremony, so it's possible that in his fight with Black Panther at the end was the first time he'd had a "spirit vision" of his mother.

    This movie did the right thing and makes the audience and actors feel the loss of chad/tchalla. While the whole entire movie is meant to show how much his loss means. While then shuri taking up the mantle feels right because we are with her through the struggles of accepting that insane burden of black panther.

    I liked this movie and I admire the cast paying a good tribute to Chadwick. It just made me miss him more. The first Black Panther always holds a special place in my heart because the ancestral plane takes me back to this dream I had if my late grandfather visiting me in my dream. I told him how sorry I was I wasn't there to say goodbye but he smiled and said "You're still the little boy I love so much. I'll be watching you though." I watched him walk up the stairs to the afterlife and I woke up crying. Everytime i see T'Challa visiting his father, i get teary eyed. In a way, Chadwick Boseman gave me something special. Rest in peace to my grandfather and Chadwick. Wakanda forever!

    Tchallas Dad ,Tchaka, was King while Tchalla was Black Panther in the first movie we see them in, Civil War. Black Panther doesnt have to be the ruler of Wakanda and vise versa. It also looks like you can have one without the other too. The ritual fight also seems to be a way to challenge for either or cuz in the first movie Mbaku fights for both so does Killmonger but this time Mbaku only challenges for king and forgoes the challenge for BlackPanther.

  • @CaptainAmercia
    @CaptainAmercia Рік тому +18

    I really love the more mature tone of this film you know more away for the Marvel formula a little and change things up. Great seeing Namor the Sub-Mariner a character who debuted in April 1939 as Marvels first Superhero character followed by Human Torch, Angel, and Masked Raider in October 1939. This group fought in WW2 pre-dating the adventures of Captain America by two years who of course became the most famous WW2 Marvel hero. The original Human Torch, Jim Hammond was an android who was actually shown in Captain America: The First Avenger at the 1943 Stark Expo as a Synthezoid on display in an oxygen-deprived glass tube coined "The Synthetic Man". Angel is not to be confused with Angel from the X-Men and the Masked Raider seems to be a very forgotten character.
    Namor is also a Mutant in the comics with one of his titles being "Namor The First Mutant" in reference of him being Marvels first mutant character, in universe he's not the first mutant as there's Mutants like Apocalypse who is 6000-year-old. Namor thought his powers were a gift from his gods until he meet Professor X, Charles Xavier from Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. He’s bounced around from working with Doctor Doom to working with Avengers and of course being a member of The X-Men.
    So it's safe to say that Namor in the MCU is also a Mutant as he even refers to himself as one, Marvel building up their Mutant library now after Marvel Studios required the movie rights to X-Men. Characters like Wanda the Scarlet Witch will no doubt be revealed to be a Mutant as well so hinting at the whole "Mutants have been here the whole time" concept like how Spider-Man was just swinging around New York post Civil War we just never saw him until Tony recruited him. The idea that the X-Men have always existed but were just hiding low is something alot of people have thought about but I personally love the idea that the X-Men were active since the 1960s pre-dating the Avengers you know just set them in their own time period that would be cool.
    The overall plot of this film is heavily inspired by the Avengers vs X-Men comic that featured five mutant leaders soon became hosts to the Phoenix Force, including Namor. He used this incredible power to amplify his own natural abilities. Tracking the Avengers to Wakanda, Namor created a massive tidal wave. The wave flooded the entire country of Wakanda, effectively destroying the kingdom and killing countless innocent citizens. Alot of X-Men speak so don't worry too much. Pretty much big clash between Avengers and X-Men and Wakanda got caught in the crossfire.
    We also have Riri Williams who would later be known as Ironheart who grew up in the South Shore neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, high levels of intelligence she reverse-engineering technology from the outdated Iron Man Armor creating her own prototype version of the Iron Man Armor, using mainly stolen material from campus. She a pretty new character showing up in 2016 as Riri and a year later as Ironheart in 2017.
    Overall I loved this film and excited to see where Namor heads to next. The X-Men seem to be way off like 2026 maybe so I can't expect Professor X to roll up anytime soon recruiting Mutants to his X-Men so maybe we'll see Namor in the next Avenger movies or a TV show. Hopefully they nail the X-Men anyways and hey I would love to see you both react to the X-Men movies I think you'd like them alot with Logan being one of my personal fav Marvel films of all time.

      *To be clear, the X-Men were not Avengers-style heroes. They were grouped by Xavier (pronounced Zay-vee-yur) solely for the purpose of protecting the world from criminal and terrorist mutants. The X-Men operated in secrecy because of the danger to mutants if the wider population were to discover that some people manifested unusual abilities.*

    You and your sister may not know this but Chadwick's smile at the end of the film when it was quiet and you saw images of him on screen, when shuti was sitting by the fire, was old Black panther one footage that they reused. The reasoning behind it was that Chadwick "had a really good smile" according to the director of the film. Overall Black panther 2 was a solid film, and sad at the end with the silent memorandum, though I feel it along with Ant-Man Quantumania are unfortunately two of the lighter films of a more weightier universe.

    Glad to see how much you enjoyed this movie, as heartbreaking as some parts were. I saw it in theaters, and it was great.
    It's especially gratifying to witness your shock and surprise at seeing Namor and his people for the first time. I knew about their appearance from watching trailers, so experiencing it through your fresh eyes is a real treat.
    Namor is a looooong-standing character in Marvel Comics -- in fact, he and his undersea kingdom were around even before Marvel was called "Marvel". Their characterization in the MCU is quite a bit different from the original comics stories, but I really enjoyed how they were implemented here.
    The death of Ramonda was something I didn't see coming, however. I was just gutted for Shuri when it happened. Angela Bassett put her all into this performance, and I'm rooting for her to win that Oscar.
    Keep up the great work!

    Black Panther and King/Queen of Wakanda are two separate things. They don't have to be the same person. Many times they were but not all the time. Remember that T'Challa was already Black Panther when we met him in Civil War. His father T'Chaka was King of Wakanda. T'Challa's family and most of the tribes worship the Panther god Bast. This is why his family carried the title and mantle of the Black Panther. The challenge at the falls is for the throne....not the BP mantle and powers. This is why M'Baku, who does not worship Bast, can be and is now King of Wakanda, assuming that he was successful at the challenge falls and Shuri remains Black Panther..............for now. 😏
    They did this for a while in the comics but in reverse. When T'Challa was in a coma, Shuri took over as Queen and Black Panther. It was for a short time. When T'Challa recovered and witnessed some of the things that Shuri had done, and royally messed up, he became Black Panther again but Shuri remained Queen and ruler of Wakanda.....again....for a short time. In the comics, T'Challa is still currently Black Panther and King of Wakanda and King of the Dead........and sooooo much more.
    But let me leave that part alone.
