This was incredibly well-done for how deep the lore is for Dragon Age. Perfect balance of succinct and detailed. Thank you guys, ready to jump into Veilguard now!
Thank you for this Lucy! Such a good breakdown, this is another series introduced to me by you and so far you are three for three: Mass Effect, Alan Wake, and Dragon Age
You should have started with the age before the ancient elves, on which they were spirits and manifested physical. On how they killed the titans and attained their power and the creation of the blight.
Just an update from the wiki: the elven gods(evanuris) were spirits who (to my knowledge) made the elves or at least gave them immortality the spirits took the form of said elves this why they were trapped in the veil. And the reason the mages went to the golden city was because the old gods(who are sort of alter egos of the elven gods) told them to go there.
The video is correct on basically all facts except maybe what started the Mage-Templar War, as it was not caused by Anders actions in DA2 (albeit it was one of the domino pieces that fell) but by the 2nd vote whether to leave the Chantry that was called by Grant Enchanter Fiona in the novel Asunder. It's a 2nd one as the 1st happens during/after DAO: Awakening and sadly Libertarians lose the vote thanks to Wynne's intervention.
Thanks for the great breakdown. As someone who put very little time into previous DA games, excited to jump into Veilguard with at least some understanding of previous game lore haha.
Here's an idea for an Experts React video. Since the DA history is basically Europe with the Chantry being the Orthodox and Catholic Churches (after the split), and the Qunari as the Islamic empires, it'd be interesting to hear a medieval historians take on things.
And thanks to the massive "success" and high "quality" of Dragqueen Age the Failguard we will never see another chapter added to this once glorious franchise.
I've not finished the video but are we just going to ignore everything about Inquisitor Ameridan and the role the Hakkonites played in being the cause behind the elves ignoring the Second Blight?
In retrospective, the one closest to being the Chantry's "Maker" IS ... SOLAS 😆!!! He created the Veil and thereby the current Dragon Age world. His palace was invaded by the Tevinter magisters who released the Blight.
If you have money to waste sure. I mean they made this game in such a way that what happened in those other games doesn't matter, and what it does matter, they give you the info so you don't get lost. Besides that, the game is incredibly mid in gameplay and story. Your money would better be invested in some other game.
I am playing and really, really enjoying Veilguard but having never played the previous games, this video got me up to speed on what certainly seemed (and appears to be!) a deep and interesting lore! It’s concise and very helpful!
Started The Veilguard yesterday and I almost cried at the wonderful beginning. Hope to see what surprises are we going to find there. Thanks for the excellent video, I loved the chronology and narrative here :)
This timeline skips on Veilguard lore. During the Ancient Age, Titans were actually the first civilisation. The Deep Roads are probably older than the Elves. The Elves came after the Titans, and raised to power by usurping Titans powers and ultimately beating them and practically annihilating their culture. So the oldest civilisation that we know of is not the Elves, it's Titans and Dwarves, coming from Titans. We are actually still vague on the Origins of humankind, we know Elves are spirits manifested, we know Titans are the oldest primordial ancient force known in Thedas so far, which gave birth to Dwarves, but there is no official lore on what human beings are. Children of Elves and Dwarves perhaps? Humans also only were able to raise in power, because of the creation of the Veil, which weakened the Elves. The video also doesn't mention that all the Blights were caused by the Evanuris, because the Tevinter mages disturbed their prison in the Fade.
Jesus, i cant even watch an actual lore video without seeing weirdos constantly commenting about Failguard and its controversy. As someone who has only played Inqusition, I'm just here to experience the story and learn without the constant reminder about the new game.
There is a zero percent chance that any of the executives of GameSpot's parent company Fandom who make the decisions of firing GameSpot staff will see this.
The game has amazing writing, something like.. "Hey guys we need to stop Solas and save the world! By the way I feel like they/them from now on so don't misgender me!" 🎉
I want to know somethin. Are you alone in you home waiting for Dragon Age videos get publisehd on youtube to enter to the comment section and cry? move on nobody cares about your opinion, we are here because we like DA.
@@j2dacee my bro you love DA but you don't understand what they've done to this game lol also thanks for "caring" my opinion and replying to it despite no one cares 😂 btw hope you enjoy this drag'n age ohioguard, its playerbase is declining hard 😉
@@joeschmoe5608 It is an absurd change/choice as "christ" and that religion is part of the history. Non-Christians live in the same world as crhistians and therefor share the same past and history. It would make sense to call it in a diferent way in places where it had not much prevalence but in Europe and America? Absurd. The portrait of the character with long blonde hair in the thumbnail, the hair looks like its a background so all I see is a bald head with a really long neck 😂

Imagine if this was narated by Lilliana
That's a nope! Don't wanna imagine...I hate her voice.
Didn't expect the shaun of the dead reference lol
As an OG DAO player who played the game in PS3 like 90 years ago, i NEEDED THIS
Lord I needed this as well, I am looking up lore videos to refresh 😂
Wow, this video was fantastic!! Well done!!
Love this breakdown. Find the history so interesting. Really want to buy the official lore book.
This was amazing for gamespot, she needs to do more.
Thank you this was very helpful.
Glad you covered the books as well!
Thank you for this Lucy! Such a good breakdown, this is another series introduced to me by you and so far you are three for three: Mass Effect, Alan Wake, and Dragon Age
Finally a good summary of the lore.
As a OG dragon age fan and player Thank You I needed this
Well done! Very digestible and enjoyable summary! I forgot how good the lore is. I am really enjoying veilguard. Plan to replay inquisition too.
Yeah, with 10 years between games, I definitely needed a refresher!
Such a good video! Thank you 😊
Thanks that was a really good explanation of it 😊
I have a feeling I’m going to like the new game simply because gamers hate it
Nobody asked lil bro
feel ya
It’s pretty good. Don’t listen to the incels
I love the game
Wow, that's pretty pathetic
This was perfect, thank you.
Loving the new game so far. Keeps getting better.

I recommend playing inquisition. While the combat might be a bit dated. The story and writing are way better than the veilguard.
Amazing breakdown
games back then had so much soul and great story telling, modern games nowadays is just graphic and money.
Fab video to help remember the lore from previous games
Thank you for reminding me i am subscribed to you.

For that you'd need staff to produce the video.
I wonder if lucy is a big dragon age fan! Waiting 10 years has been gruelling 🙏
And thanks to the massive "success" and high "quality" of Dragqueen Age the Failguard we will never see another chapter added to this once glorious franchise.
I like veilguard, but I was kind of hoping for a prequel that takes us back to the first blight
I really wish they brought back Merrill after DA 2
I've not finished the video but are we just going to ignore everything about Inquisitor Ameridan and the role the Hakkonites played in being the cause behind the elves ignoring the Second Blight?

Nah, Solas was just a spirit. The Maker could indeed still exist.
Wait, his palace? Was that specified? I only remember them saying that the golden city was an elven city
Purple Age
I’m really enjoying the new dragon age.
hi all! can i jump into veilguard before playing the prior 3 storywise? or will i be confused.

Dragon age collection for the current consoles please....
I wish I never knew the origins of the word Thedas
Wait...
Who are the old gods again? Who are the archdemons?
This was a great video. I needed this to understand the world a little bit before I jump into Veilguard. Thank you! 👍🏼
😂Qunaari has always been. Only when creatures from all factions started to see (what we see in WoW as Tauren and blueblood)
Ogren og Dwarf before varic wish they would bring him for his third appearance dragon age awakening
Also bc is before Christ and ad after Anno Domini

The first dragon fight was fun in Veilguard but why is every dragon the same 😂
This video negates the need for that bad 2 minute Dragon Age lore video from the other day, that guy should stop making bad videos.

Veilguard is an insult to its previous games.
I’m enjoying it - sorry you don’t like it
Its currently really succesful, and a lot of people are enjoying it.
I think it's great so far. Has the potential to be my favourite in the series and I'm very happy to be back in Thedas after a decade of waiting.
