Now you have guys like Chychurn who eat raw beef hearts and livers on one end, and Kessel eats hot dogs and coca cola but somehow never gets injured

I had a buddy who played in the NFL. He said he used to get really lethargic sometimes, so the Cowboys dietitian told him to cut out dairy and switched his training day snack to a plant-based smoothie. He said he never had more energy in his life.

I mean everybody is different, i.e. DK Metcalf eating a bag of candy a day, but for most people dairy (especially raw) is going to be much healthier and more beneficial (and nutritents more bio-available) than most vegetables -- as a lot of vegetables are high in oxalates and even phytic acids (aka "nutrient thieves")
That's why a lot of cultures ferment their veggies. Makes them much more bio-available and also kills a lot of the defensive chemicals plants, seeds and stems often carry.

It makes sense that Chara has an almost vegan diet. He ran the Boston Marathon this year and finished in 3:38:23 - super fast!

I mean Ovi's a pretty big dude at 6'3 and over 220 lbs, plus he trains super hard. I wouldn't be surprised if he's figured out a way to burn off that chicken parm every other day.

A lot of guys "carb-load" before a game.
Pasta, rice, bread, hotdog buns (with or without the hotdogs).

My diet from about 6-7yrs old has consisted of eggs, bacon, whole grain avocado toast, cottage cheese and a tblsp of cod liver oil, lunch was tuna, chicken salad or egg salad with fruit and dinner was rotated from chicken, salmon, steak, brown rice, sweet potatoes, salad, broccoli, culliflower, spinach. And it never wavered
    Thank you mom and dad

You may feel sorry for anyone who hasn't had and thus doesn't crave fast food or any of the unhealthy junk and essentially low grade poison most of us North Americans do, but I actually admire tf out of that being their *Norm* and think we need to start shaking the dogma that healthier eating, even organs, is "weird" or the "abnormal" way and should start treating people who have fast food consistently in their diet with that shame.
And it's rarely about cost these days, as fast foods growing to be just as if not more expensive than healthy eating even when you consider the time and energy it takes to prep.

Eating factory produced crap with chemicals, conservatives, inflammatory and cancerous ingredients is normal. Eating like humans and animals have done for hundred of thousands of years is “weird” or even “beyond disgusting”. The normal person is so fooled on what nutrition even means, oats and kale are not nutrition. Energy and nut bars are not fuel

That Mama Luccia is pretty smart. Big carbo-load to power the gas tank along with some fat content to keep energy coming in after the carbs burn off.

I see no problem with carbing up before a high intensity activity. A "5 hr nap"...yikes.

People who are not used to emptying their glycogen reserves during high intensity training will get a food coma from eating carb loaded meals due to their insulin levels shooting to the moon

not being an athlete myself in any way -- i find all pro and high level amateur athletes incredible, like some sort of mythical beings who won the genetic pool. the only thing i don't get is why don't high level athletes' children not automatic to become athletes themselves. like why didn't gretzky's brothers also get 200 points etc......
