Our best trip was taking our daughter to all the museums and a broadway show in the early 2000’s. She is very artsy and now lives in San Francisco and is a designer for a company in the Bay Area. We attribute a lot of her success to our many trips to New York.

I am in the UK. My husband and I visited New York in 2005.
We wanted to see ‘Wicked’ on Broadway because it hadn’t opened in London yet. We planned to watch it on the Monday evening but didn’t realise the shows were closed on Mondays and we were flying back on Tuesday afternoon. 😢 However, the rest of our visit was amazing! We did all the things like going up the Empire State Building, taking a horse and carriage ride thru Central Park, doing the NBC tour, going to FAO Schwartz toy store, visiting Times Square and taking the Staten Island ferry to see the Statue of Liberty. We will definitely visit again in a heartbeat but will have to wait till I’ve had, and recovered from, my double hip replacement!! 🎉 Thanks to Knitty City and you, Knitty Natty, for this amazing giveaway. ❤

My fav visit to NY was the Easter after 9/11 when my family met me there for a week together. I was living in Europe at the time, and feeling nostalgic for my US home and the NYC love. We saw the sites, visited a very devastated ground zero, saw Aida, and ate & ate all the things. Love to you Natalie - thx for this great KnittyCity tour!

I’m very fortunate to live in Brooklyn, NY. I daily hop in the train and enjoy everything about NYC. I love the museums, book stores for crochet 🧶, incredible broadway shows and lately Lincoln Center. The operas are just wonderful along with the music concerts and ballets. Let’s not forget delicious food in every corner 😁 The list of wonderful experiences are endless. Thank you Kitty City for such great gifts 🧶 🗽

One of my best days in NYC was when the Met museum reopened after the Covid lockdown. I spent five hours cherishing what I had missed for all the time they were closed. Every November on marathon day is another fabulous time to be in NYC. It is when people from the whole world come together and the streets become one gigantic 26.2miles of cheering and positive energy! And the Bryant Park knit along in public day in June! ❤️ 🧶!

Natalie! This was so well timed for me, as my son returned from his holiday in NY in the second week of June. I may have mentioned to him that it’d be cool if he found time to pop into Knitty City to buy me a souvenir! Lucky me! He did just that…… and bought me a skein of Lyndseys Five Boroughs yarn! Which is stunning.
He is only 19 and this was his first trip on a plane -I was super anxious about him being in the Big Apple, but came home with wonderful tales to tell of NewYorkers and their friendly demeanour! Who knew? Not me!
I would love to come and see the city for myself some day and now I’ve seen inside the shop - Knitty City will be a definite destination.
Thanks for your cool content - good luck with the move - I’ll be living my travelling dreams vicariously through you guys for the next wee while!

My family went to NY on New Years Eve day in the early 2000’s. It was the craziest experience ever! We were in a mini-van. The parking areas did not allow mini-vans. So we double parked & took turns going to the restroom. That was a chore as stores wanted you to purchase before using their restroom. We finally found a hospital in the middle of a block & used theirs. We were amazed to see the taxis with push bars on front & on back. We watched a taxi driver spray paint a dent right there on the street. The traffic was crazy. I doubt I ever get back to NY as my husband hated the experience. Thank you Natalie for showing me so much good in NY!!

I took my daughter and 2 grandson's to New York in 2019 right before Covid hit. It was the best vacation so far. The boys loved it. The 911 memorial was the most moving place we have ever been to. The boys were not born yet but knew of it. They were brought to tears.
New York is such an amazing place. I will hate to see you leave it. I have enjoyed your trips around town. Best of luck on your new van adventure.

Our best time in NYC was when our son was 9 or 10 years old and he was completely obsessed with Home Alone and all of the New York landmarks. So for his dream vacation, we came to NY and first went to see ‘Live with Regis and Kathie Lee’ then walked him all over the city. FAO Schwartz, Park Plaza, 30 Rock, Empire State Building, etc. He LOVED it! One other time, the company I work for (in Rhode Island) was to ring the Nasdaq opening bell. I had only been with the company about three months at the time. The company chartered a huge bus and 50 of us (we have about 600 employees) left Westerly RI, at 4am and did the Nasdaq thing. The photo of us ringing the bell was on the cover of our Annual Report that year. BTW, I knit the whole trip down and back. Then a group of us went over to the World Trade Center and took it all in, had a lovely lunch ar a wonderful Italian restaurant nearby and ended the day with me knitting in Bryant Park. Absolutely fantastic day - long (we got back to RI around 7:30 pm), but absolutely unforgettable! ❤

Natalie - What an awesome yarn store tour and how wonderful that they were so generous with gifts for you to give away to us! I'll definitely have to visit Knitty City (and Levain, of course!) the next time I'm in New York! My favorite NYC memory/trip is a tossup between our trips in July 2017 and June 2018. In 2017 when we were visiting, my sister took us to a Yankees game (my first ever and my avid-Yankees fan husband's first time in the new stadium) and little did we know ahead of time that we were on the first base line like 10 rows up from the field. It was incredible to get to see my husband so excited! Then our trip in June 2018 we visited my sister and her then-fiance, now husband, again and we had a wonderful couple of days with them. We enjoyed restaurants, walked up the High Line, and got to see The Cursed Child. Great memories of NYC and I can't wait to make more with yarn stores involved.

I have been fortunate to visit New York City several times in my life. I have seen 42nd street on Broadway, eaten at Sardi’s, shopped at all the famous name stores for dresses as a young girl, watched the opening of animated Pocahontas in Central Park during college days, and just a few weeks ago spent a fabulous weekend seeing Hamilton and The Lion King. Every time I am in the city it is a new experience and it just adds to the fabulous memories that I have of NYC!

My sister and I visited NYC many years ago. We went to Ellis Island and looked up our grandmother as she came through Ellis Island in 1908 from Sweden. Getting her manifest provided us with the town where she was raised and we were able to visit her hometown and the house she where she grew up in Hjo, Sweden. The owners were very gracious and let us see the inside of the house. My sister and I also visited the 911 memorial, which was very sobering. We ate at Tavern on the Green before they closed, which was amazing. I love your podcasts and look forward to seeing what states you visit in your next chapter of van life.

I grew up on Long Island and work in music. I spent most of the 90s in dirty, gritty rock clubs in the village, watching all my friends' bands play their brains out. I always drove in because no train schedule can contain me!!! But I also ended up with more than a few parking tickets 😂😂😂 but we were in our 20s and invincible. Best time ever.

My only memory of going to NY City was when I was a very young child. My aunt owned a restaurant there. Above the restaurant was rooms she rented out and that's where we slept. I remember there was a big neon sign just outside our window that lit up the room at night with pretty colors and I loved that. We felt like we had the run of the place. We were allowed to go into the kitchen anytime we wanted to use the milk machine. It was ice cold and probably the best milk we ever drank. Being outside kids, as all kids were back in the day, we liked to play on the sidewalk outside. We were in awe of all the people, cars, and the noise... I remember going home with lots of red hot dogs. Mom loved them and we couldn't get them where we lived.

Between school trips and visiting family, I have had many great visits to New York City. One of my best visits was when we were in town for our cousin's high school graduation. It was a longer visit, and our children were not born yet, so we had the freedom to explore some nightlife without worrying about child care. I grew up outside of NYC (about an hour out) and was so blessed to be able to visit Broadway, the NY Philharmonic, the opera, the ballet and the museums as a kid. I have been living away from all of that culture for over 20 years and have kids of my own now. I want to come back to be able to give them the gift of a genuinely first rate cultural experience. And being able to visit all of the small businesses (yarn stores, cafe and restaurants and random, incredibly unique places that couldn't survive elsewhere) is a lovely part of that cultural draw, along with the bigger and bolder experiences.

I'm still thinking about the fish and chips from Gordon Ramsey's and the Meatballs from The Meatball Shop in Hell's Kitchen. OMG! Many years ago, too many😊, I used to come into NYC by train from PA and shop at NY Yarn store (I think that was the name) on 6th Ave?, also at Coulture (spelling?) yarns near Bloomingdale’s, and School Products. I’m going back about 40 years ago. YES, I’m STILL knitting at age 74. Will be 75 on July 12. Still knitting & enjoying every soothing minute of it. Recently, I’ve knitted 24 pairs of socks for my husband. He has small feet, and store bought socks hand off his toes. He won’t part with the ones I’ve knitted for him. 😊. Makes my heart sing! This video made my day.

My only time in NYC was last month when I took my son to check out Seton Hall. We had 1 afternoon in NYC. We took the train in from NJ, stopped at Penn Station and Grand Central. We checked out the Chrysler and Flat Iron buildings. Then headed to Knitty City though got on the wrong subway initially. After Kitty City we got cookies at Levain's then wandered Central Park. We spent an hour watching a guy put people into giant bubbles. Then we went to FAO Schwartz, out to dinner at an Irish Pub, and finally to Book of Mormon. It was a great mom/son day and he was already picking out bulky yarn to get me to make him a blanket for when he moves to NJ from FL.😊

What a great shop! My husband and I honeymooned in NYC. Saw a show, ate in great restaurants, and visited the museums.

My favorite visit to NYC ( there have been many) was when my son and daughter-in-law visited. We took the ferry into downtown and started out by googling a coffee shop and we kept googling random things that took us all over the city- parks, shops, views... We ended the day at a fabulous restaurant and then took the ferry home. One of the best days EVER!!

My favorite NY City memory is from this past January. My husband surprise gifted me a weekend there to go to a show for Christmas. We had the BEST time! I did not make it to any yarn stores but for my next trip I will be visiting Knitty City for sure!

Our favorite part of our trip to New York was our visit to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. We got to see the names of my husbands family that came through Ellis Island from Italy on the wall there. SO emotional. ❤

My best trip was for my 16th birthday with my dad; he took me to see Newsies on broadway! We also went out to eat, saw Central Park, and chatted. It was such a special time with my dad!

My best time in NYC was in October of 2019. I won an award for work and they flew me in from Arizona and a guest (my best friend who was in TX) in for a long weekend staying in Times Square! I was actually able to visit Knitty City! It was the only yarn store I got to visit and it happened to be on NYC yarn crawl day. I was able to meet Pearl and it was such a great experience! I wish I had known about your favorite cookie/coffee shop, but we did also go to Central Park and to Grand Bazaar nearby. We also went to The Stonewall Inn, The Vessel, The High Line and did sooooo much walking. It was a GREAT visit!

My favorite time in NYC was a weekend I just wandered. I did tourist stuff (Ellis Island, the Met, the Alice in Wonderland statue) and in between visited yarn shops. Knitty City was so welcoming and quickly became my favorite when I needed something (I worked as a consultant for 3yrs on a project). I had the joy of meeting Pearl - she just was so kind and a warm person.

My husband and I have been lucky enough to visit NYC on a number of occasions and love going to Knitty City. Pearl always remembered us from year to year and invited us to join the group in Bryant Park which was great fun. We have not been back since Covid but hopefully we will visit again soon 😊

On 9/11 my father was the first federal agent on scene at the plane that crashed in Shanksville, PA only about 20 minutes from our house. In 2002 on our way back from vacation he decided we should go to NYC to visit ground zero. It was still mainly just rubble, but still very touching to see. He was able to talk with the FDNY firefighters across the street and have a moment with others who understood the full heaviness of that awful day. We rode the ferry that goes around the Statue of Liberty, participating in a moment of silence going by ground zero. And we’re able to do lots of other fun NYC things…bagels, Empire State Building, subway, Grand Central Station, etc. ❤️ I need to go back as an adult with my children now.

My sister lived in Manhattan when she was first married so I made many trips to see her. Probably my favorite event was seeing the Broadway show of one of my favorite musicals, The Sound of Music!
