Frida Fuchs is actually the yarn brand that belongs to the owners of yarnover Berlin! So you actually got their own yarn which I think is so special!! Lots of love from Germany!
This was so lovely :) Fun fact: "kiez" (pronounced like the poet Keats) means neighbourhood in German and there are lots of nice ones in Berlin. So a great memory :) I live in Berlin and recently went to Wollen for the first time, didn't spot the knitting for olive though. Will have to go back for some sock yarn and some handdied yarn for a sweater :)
So much fun! I am so envy that you stay in Poland. I am Polish but I have lived in Ireland since 2006 and the last time I was in Poland was maybe 2019. I miss Polish food so much. Germany has a nice Kebabs by the way. Enjoy your stay!
it's always so fun to watch people from other countries visit the city you live in :) wollen berlin and yarnover berlin are also two of my favourite stores. by the way: the lady who owns yarnover berlin actually also owns frida fuchs, if I'm not mistaken. for other berlin babes or people visiting soon: two stores that I also very much love, my past and my present go-to-stores (because I moved across the city) are needles&pins in solmsstr, kreuzberg and loops in wörther str in prenzlauer berg. needles and pins has a lot of lana grossa and lang yarns, but also some special brands and loads of natural fibers. all in all I like that the store sells affordable yarns. the loops store has also lana grossa, but a lot more fancy yarns, like sandnes garn, ito, noro.
Amy, I missed this video! You went to my favourite yarn store, Wollen Berlin :D They take around half of my salary each time I go there hahaha. Hopefully, I only go once every 2 months to Berlin for work so I can minimize the damages! So happy to have seen you discovering Berlin!
so happy you enjoyed your weekend in berlin and found my yarn shop and bakery recommendations helpful too 🧡 zeit für brot & wollen berlin is an absolut must do for any trip ☺️ would’ve been so nice I’ve we could have met up but maybe one day at rhinebeck then! ;) also kiez berlin is pronounced „keetz“, it describes different neighborhoods like Friedrichshain or Neukölln in Berlin :)
Thanks Marlene! I'm sure our paths will cross again in the future - a Rhinebeck meetup would be so fun! And thank you for the pronunciation correction!
just came back from Oslo with lots of yarn, you can definitely stuff a lot of yarn into a small space in luggage. Went to Pickles and Fru Kvist in Grunerlokka area, great selection of Norweigian wool :)
I bought the Mondim when i visited Retrosaria in Lisbon, its been my favorite sock yarn to date! I love the color you chose. Loved getting to see all the beautiful yarn you picked up! Happy knitting
I loved Wollen Berlin! I didn't get a chance to go to Yarn Over Berlin but it's on my list for my next trip. my brother lives in Berlin so I have a great excuse to visit more!
Yay! Glad you went to Berlin, I'm going there next summer from the UK. I love German yarn, especially Austermann sock yarns because they're virtually bullet proof! If you ever get the chance to go to Germany again, you need to go to Garn Store in Cologne. I was able to get some WALK and Pascuali Balayage yarn from there this year - Jamie the owner is the most sweetest human I've ever met, he was so lovely ☺
Such a lovely video and it made me a little bit homesick for my hometown (: for other Berlin visitors, I also highly recommend Lalaine near Savignyplatz - another really really nice yarn shop (:
I like to order from Wollen-Berlin and I am just knitting with Filcolana "Saga" . When you come to Hamburg I highly recommend the yarn shop and cafe "Mylys" Do you like unspun yarn? The spanish "Manchelopi" is so soft I love it. Have a nice time in Germany, funny to know you around the corner :)
When you go to Oslo my no. 1 recommendation for yarn stores is Garntopia (although not in the city centre..), and no. 2 is Fru Kvist (which is a lot easier to get to). I advice you to stay clear of the small one in the Oslo City shopping center called Strikkedilla, it's super small and the people working there are not pleasant (plus the shopping center itself is not great either haha). For Sandnes Garn and Rauma you could also try to find one of the Nøstet Mitt stores, but if you're ok with travelling out of the city centre I totally recommend Garntopia. Take the metro to Helsfyr or a bus to Fyrstikktorget and you will be good :)
I agree with those recommendations! If you want locally hand dyed yarn you can also go to Strikkefeber by Bislett (easy to get to with the tram(trikk)), very cute small store with hand dyed yarn from Strikkefeber and some from Sysleriget.
I live in Berlin but was coincidentally visiting family for a month in CT while you were there. If you’d like to get you the mini skein in the right fiber, let me know. Those Mini Füchse 🦊 would not be difficult to ship. Cheers from Berlin,
Hey, I just found your channel and am from Germany, so I was excited to see you shopping for yarn here. Will you be doing more shopping on your trip and taking us with you? I really like your videos, you got a new subscriber today :)
Really enjoyed this yarny travel vlog! You went to some beautiful stores. I’m curious how the Filcolana compares to the Knit Picks Wool of the Andes or Palette…have you tried either of those? It seems like knit picks would be a similar affordable option in the US.
I have knit with the Wool of the Andes! It's at home right now but when I get back I definitely want to compare the two. Off of memory I think the Filcolana is softer but they are similar for sure.
Let me know if you figure out a way to reclaim your V.A.T. I bought yarn in Europe in January and went to the kiosks at the airport but needed help and no one was around :(
Oh I totally forgot about VAT :( I didn't ask about it when I bought the yarn so I think I missed my opportunity but I will remember for my other yarn shop visits! Were you able to process it at the airport despite no one being around?
Frida Fuchs is actually the yarn brand that belongs to the owners of yarnover Berlin! So you actually got their own yarn which I think is so special!! Lots of love from Germany!
i'm knitting a sweater to my son in the Pernilla/ Tilia mixture. In orange, green and black. Sooo soft, it's like knitting a cloud.

As a new knitter with a winter color season, your channel has been a wonderful find for me! I love every color selection you have here

Haha. Should have packed a bag of yarn for your husband to take home.
I was thinking the same 😂 make your husband the yarn mule!
That’s so smart! 😂
Ohh I did haha - I only showed the single skeins here because he went home with the rest of the yarn!
Love all the wool u got! Kiez is pronounced "Keets" btw! It means smth like "neighborhood" and I think it's Berlin slang.
Ah good to know! Knew at least one of my pronunciations would've been off...
@@neknits you did rly well on all the other names! 😂
It‘s not only Berlin slang - in Hamburg it‘s the quarter where you go out.
@@liisilu yeah I wasn't sure anyway so thanks for the clarification!

@@neknits that would be nice!
and don’t worry about it, you did so good otherwise ☺️
Those were some beautiful, well-stocked yarn shops! There were so many new to me brands there.
Glad you got some beautiful yarns! Its so nice your husband was able to join you ☺️.
As always, your episodes are a pleasure to watch! I love the rhythm of it. Thank you for sharing! ❤️
Oh what a pity, would have loved to show you around the city. Maybe next time. 😊
Fun! Thank you for sharing your Berlin visit. I love your enthusiasm! 😊

also, The Unruly Stitch in Weston MA carries Gilliat if you want to buy it in person closer to home!
Thank you for sharing this with us! ❤
Absolutely that hot pink is perfect for a beanie!! Awesome selections Amy!
thanks for sharing your shopping experience and haul. Looking forward to seeing what you end up making.
So exciting!! 🧶❤️🧶
Thanks for the great episode, it was fun to see the Berlin stores and the yarns you chose

Oo what a great opportunity you have to travel to Berlin! You'll enjoy Yarn Over Berlin!
Awesome haul! I actually just ordered the Mominoki Fir Tree kit for the Westknits Mkal.

I do not have much experience with unspun yarn! I am not particularly drawn to it but maybe will try it in the future for a small project.

Not yarn related, but where did you get your stripped shirt you are wearing starting this video?
I got it from Arket a few years ago!
You know you can load up Nick’s luggage…..
That was my immediate thought! He was only there for one week……
