As a straight guy, I honestly believe this scene taught me more on how to be a proper man than any other war/crime movie could teach me. Amazing scene. I got brought up to not hate Gay men but dislike these men, and sadly it was frowned upon in my environment through my teenage years. But I will tell you this ( I hope I don't sound patronising!) I have spent a lot of time with Gay guys, lesbians, transgender etc. and I will tell you this, amazing time! We are all human :) and if it feels right to you... then it is right! I have honestly learned how to be a proper man from Gay guys than straight guys.
Good stuff my man! It takes strength to admit that what you were taught by the people closest to you might not be true after all! We never stop learning.
your comment made my day! it shows that there are actually decent people out there, and that the internet can do more than hate! thanks for that, and cheers man! :D
in my opinion, this is one of the most life-affirming scenes in a film from recent years. i hope pride goes down in history as a brilliant and culturally significant film, because its message of solidarity is just as important now
Same, yet I hadn't even heard of it until it came on amazon prime video. I was surprised given the amount of well known actors in it! Outstanding film. I knew about the miner strikes but I'd never heard about the gay community supporting them and vice versa.
Dominic West’s character’s dancing in this scene reminds me so much of a friend of mine from Uni who is sadly no longer with us. He was always the first and last man on the dance floor. RIP John, thank you for the dances we shared.
This is the best part of the film. It makes me smile and gives me huge goosebumps!!! One of my favourite films, can't watch the ending without crying each time!! All the actors are bloody fantastic and have been cast so well. A truly uplifting story!
+Salice McCool Me too! The last time I actually had any fun was 1975....nothing much to dance to anymore. (Except Uptown Funk, which sounds like 1975 and I love it!)
Hi Charlie, it's kind of still around. They just call it EDM now, but the problem is that it's over-processed. Instead of singers singing normally, everything is over-corrected, using software to tune everything, which is not how real people sound, and to add insult to injury, every damned body wants to be a robot, so there's a side-chained robot sound in almost every lead vocal in pop music these days. Horrible! But necessary, since they want them to look a certain way, and these days, they want to be able to sell more than music, thus the Barbie doll, naked look of most of the so-called "artists" in pop music today. Singing no longer counts. If you just happen to have talent though, it's a good thing, otherwise, they kill your chances. They tried really hard with Adele with 21 because she was not "thin". However, I remember when Rollin' In The Deep hovered around 100 on the top pop charts of billboard, until the cast of Glee did it, then it went to number 1. They still tried to kill her next song, but then she did that fantastic performance of Someone Like You on the MTV Video awards and the next week, the song debuted at number 1. There's been no stopping her since. Also, Sia does not fit the mold either, but love her gimic of not showing herself. Not really pretty and in her 40s, not what video and pop music wants, but she outsmarted them, thus has had two huge CDs as well as huge hits by herself as well as writing for others.
I love that the older men took his dancing in stride more than the younger men did. They remembered the days during WWII, before the mines damaged them so badly, when they needed dance to keep joy alive.
Great film, wonderful acting by every single one of the cast. I lived in the valleys through the miners' strike and saw first hand the strong emotions which took place every single day for a year. It shaped my political views forever. Pride captures a very special story within that conflict and the expressions on the miners' faces in this scene are exactly what you would expect. Dominic West was spellbinding.
Superboiler,I'm a Tory but never agreed with Thatcher destroying community's and it's an inspiring film, being right wing doesn't mean I have to concur with everything the Torys do but I am proud to be British unlike Corbyn. The guy won't stand up for the national anthem and he's a communist and our only friends in the world are the U.S.
I was a student and we supported miners from the north east. Collecting food, clothes and cash but giving the kids camoing holidays in the Lake District. It changed my life forever too. So many bonds made. Every time I see photos of those miners buses fronting Pride it still makes me well up. Great film as well
One of the best films I’ve watched in 10 years! I stumbled upon this movie one night and watched it because I was bored. It quickly became an all time favourite. I’ve probably watched it 20 times.
Brilliant film, with a fantastic cast, great story and great music. Some of the real Pride who inspired this film were at the Miner's Gala in Durham last year. Amazing day. A film that made me laugh and also feel sad, Even my husband liked it!
Hi . It was actually Tredegar Brass Band who played in various scenes , and then at the end at the 'Pride ' march . Hope you don't think I'm being picky but they were tenor horns from a brass band , not french horns from an orchestra . I'm sure we agree it's a great film ! All the best , Mark .
Oh god 1:41 when Christopher Nightingale comes in with that original content. All his stuff on this film was incredibly uplifting and fit so well! One of the MANY reasons why this film is and will always be one of my favorites.
If you want another union movie that will make you cry (this one's not a comedy), check out Matewan. I don't remember if I've ever seen a movie that made me lose it so bad like that one.
Terrific scene, the best in the film. Dominic West is simply gorgeous. I lived through the miners' strike in the South Wales valleys and saw how it divided communities. This film captures the whole era incredibly well.
Bears repeating: "I would believe only in a God that knows how to dance," Friedrich Nietzsche. Only people that can be prejudiced in 2018 are the evil & the willfully ignorant. Great song, great scene, great movie, great actors all ~ Cheers, DAVEDJ ~
This clip gives me goosebumps everytime i watch it, absolutely fab stuff, just reminds me of my teen years with mates hitting the dance floor when so many would`nt, hahahah

I only watched this movie recently and I was expecting it to be this super bleak and depressing drama, but it was honestly one of the most fun movies I've seen in a while
This is one of my favourite films to put me in a good mood and this is the best scene of the whole movie. Just heard this song in a restaurant when I was out for lunch and have immediately come and looked for the scene on here to put a smile on my face. Altogether now, “Shame, shame, shame, shame, shame on you if you can’t dance too!”
The best and easiest criteria for who we are as people is "how do other people feel in our presence?" and then think about how every person in this room feels because of Dominic West's character. And how he makes them feel in return.
This is the most uplifting scene i've ever seen! And isnt he GAWJUS!!!! hehehe. Love it!!!!!
