When the disco era hit I was in the thick of it! When this song would play at the clubs people would pack the dance floor, you’d have to almost fight for a position on the floor! 😊👍
Oh yes, same here. Best years for tearing up the floor. Great memories. Great songs and music. Shame, shame, shame is on my Playlist, I still dance to it. Lol, of course not as good as back in the day. Keep dancing!!! I believe his name is James Alvarez..if memory serves me. 🫶👍
Shirley & Company was an American disco group, consisting of Shirley Goodman (1936-2005), Jason Alvarez [birth name Jesús Álvarez] born December 28, 1951 (now a pastor) "Shame, Shame, Shame" (released December 1974) was written and produced by Sylvia Robinson, who was a co-owner of the All Platinum record label. It was intended for All Platinum artist Donnie Elbert. It was Robinson who paired veteran blues vocalist Shirley Goodman with All Platinum artist Jesus Alvarez. The track, with its prominent use of the Bo Diddley beat, was one of the first international disco hits and reached number 12 on the Billboard charts. It also hit number one on the soul singles chart for one week. "Shame, Shame, Shame" also went number one on the disco/dance chart for four weeks. The full-length LP Shame, Shame, Shame was recorded subsequently and came out in 1975. The lead singer Shirley Goodman, was one half of the duo Shirley and Lee who had a mega hit 18 years earlier, in 1956, writing and recording the song "Let The Good Times Roll" for Aladdin Records. Jesus Alvarez changed his name to Jason Alvarez and became a pastor for the Love of Jesus Family Church. He recorded several gospel albums.
S&M you hit this one out of the park!!! I remember busting a move to this song back in the 70's, in fact I was busting a move listening to this during breakfast this morning. Back in the late 60's and 70's we didn't have this racial division that we do today and our common love for the music brought us together. All races would come to the dances or discotheque and enjoy each other's company. Keep the groove and you'll have the move!!! Thank you! Stevie B.
Thank you A.J. for your wonderful liner notes on this outstanding song from Shirley Goodman. If I understand correctly later on she promoted one of the earliest rappers, Grandmaster Flash. She was quite a lady, wasn't she?
This is one of the best songs from the disco era. They are amazing! Just a beautiful, talented black woman and a handsome, talented Cuban man Jesus (later changed his name to Jason) who came together to create beautiful, fun music. No boobs hanging out/flopping around, no naked butts, no demeaning women... just pure raw talent. Autotune not required. R.I.P. beautiful Shirley. Both performers are just perfect together. Thank you for choosing this song to review. Keep up the good work.
Yessss!!! This is freaking amazing! All of us kids would be piled in the backseat of the Car, it was summertime, my Uncle who was the COOLEST would have the windows all the way down and this would be blaring on the radio!!!! I love it!!!! 🔥🔥
I spent my entire teens in the 70's, and of course this song was part of it.I thought I had all this stuff figured out, but I had no idea he sang that part. Thanks for the video.
Sitting here on the couch with a broken ankle, this song just saved my life. I’m dancin’ to this song over and over. Yes......this is what we need.Let’s party. She can sing but she can really dance.
This was a completely enjoyable reaction. lmao I loved your faces when that guy started singing. lol Shirley and Company. The company just brought dessert. lol
I'm Brazilian. My uncle was a hippie in the 70s and in 1976 he had a portable record player. When he put on the LP with this song, I, at the age of 10, was dancing like crazy. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2017.
Omg . I haven’t heard this in decades!!! Thank y’all for posting this. My mom had this record. I would love to see y’all’s reaction to Melba Moore and her song “This Is It”. Her voice will knock you out.
Heard this song a million times. I have not seen this video. It’s awesome. I like this song so much more now. Thank you. You’re right, I think the 7os seem to have the most fun and the best talent and styles. Disco was great in its infancy.
..lol thanks for the memories of being on the dance floor (drunker than a skunk) dancin the nite away to this song. I"m 68 now and this is the first time to see them sing this song. Loved your reactions, they were great and funny.
It was so cool getting to see this video! I have danced to this song a million times. But I never knew who sang the song, We didn't have videos back then so when there was a new group the only place you could see them was on American Bandstand or Soul Train. Or maybe they would be on a variety show. That was so much fun. She was so full of personality it was shining like sunbeams out of her finger tips. Disco was definitely fun and happy music. If you loved to dance it got you moving. It did bring people together too. But...like everything there always has to be some people who get in there and spoil it, with commercialism, excess and drugs, this led to a lot of people getting hurt. Just like with the hippie movement in the 60's. The disco at the end of the decade was very different from how it started out., I think that is why it sadly kind of died out. But the music and the beat are still in my blood. :)
Such a hugely underrated duo!!! They were fire together!!! Another great memory for me... I remember dancing with my little girl to this when she was about 3 and her singing "Shame, shame, shame on you... if you cant have stew..." It was hilarious. Thanks for bringing up another wonderful time in my life... excellent music lately so thanks to whoever is requesting this stuff!
First time ever hearing this song. How could I have missed it as I was around during the era. Sounds fantastic and you guys have a perfect reaction to it.

I’m so glad your doing all the music from the 50s to the 70s. loved this song when it came out , loved disco. Back then all the metal heads had bumper stickers that said “ disco sucks”
One of my very favorites. This song takes me back to middle school. It really brings back memories and is still a wonderful hit for motivation. Thanks, Shawn & Mel for making my day.
Wow, I thought I'd heard all of them. I've never heard this one and it's amazing. The yeller at the first time hearing a lot of the things you're playing. It was a fantastic time to be a teenager and a young person.
Whoever put these 2 together knew what they were doing. The mix of soul, power, fun in their voices is dynamite! And we loved it!! Great reaction! Love the look on your faces!
Thank you Shawn and Mel, you are my absolute favourite reaction platform I just love you guys!! I'm in my seventies and one of the many things I'm thankful for is the great music I grew up with. "Thank you for the music" by ABBA is one I think you'll enjoy.
Meaning of diamond in the back. “a characteristic of early model cadillacs (1970s) used primarily by the urban community that was popularized in a classic song, "Be Thankful for What You Got" by one-hit wonder William Devaughn and has been covered and sampled many times over, most notebly in rap songs beginning in the early 90s. Wow thank you! Haven't heard this since my disco days and definitely didn't know what they looked like. Fabulous. We had the best music ever. So diverse!
Got to believe it man! We were not torn up like today. We sang and danced and entertained TOGETHER. Nobody cared about skin color. It was more prominent starting in ths 70's. Soul Train REALLY contributed to bringing us together. They should the great artists offthe day!
I came just to watch your folks’ face when the dude turn was to come up😆🤣😂 I loved growing up in the 70’s and 80’s. We were spoiled with great music. 🎼🤘🏾🔥
THANK YOU!!!!!!! This is a great song!!!!! Reached #12 on the billboard charts. When I was a teenager my parents had this song playing all time in the car. Incredible vocals!!!! What a GEM that most people have never heard.
I have to comment - again! Love your reaction babes ❤ This was my very first hit that I fell in love with. NOW I found the sound and passion that I loved, and still love. Got the single then, and still make me move. Soul, funk, rnb/hiphop, just bring it, and I'm in. Wish this was more remembered.
Man I tell you I was born in 1967 and I'm 57 now and I still love and listens to 70s music and I've always loved this song shame shame shame and I still don't know this white guys name until this day but this guy really made this song the hit song that it was and still is so hat's off to this guy if it had not been for your voice in this song it would not have been a hit song
This was played when My Aunt & Uncle renewed Their Vows. At Their Reception, it was played over and over again in 1975 and nobody really understood the words. They were too busy enjoying The Cocktails.

Everything was so much better before the 2000's. We all got along and had fun, worked together, lived together, and went to school together just fine. We were Americans in the best time to be alive. I miss this time.
back in the 70s/80s, in my experience, people all loved each other, not as divisive messages as today. I miss that. hippies, disco, everybody loved each other.
back then you heard it on the radio setting on the steps with your friends outside, never seeing their faces thinking yes a man of soul. Wow baby. loved them then and forever. thanks for playing them today. they are the best; dancing in my chair now with you all. t.
I agree with pettyguy64! This song brought back great memories! I was a little kid in the seventies, but I still remember that great vibe! People...all people...and togetherness, we would spend the weekends jamming!I really appreciate my Mom giving me a huge exposure to all genres of music because it helped me grow into an adult who appreciates all music from all people, because in the end, we are all human beings with a story, living, loving & growing together with a little bit of tunes to help us along! I love y'all and your great chemistry, keep up the good work! Such a sweet vibe y'all send out! God bless!
Massive hit in London at all the clubs. I remember dancing to this on the coloured glass dance floor of the Sombrero Club in Kensington High Street summer of ‘75

You are experiencing a Mondegreen which is a misunderstood song lyric. The actual wording is "Shame, shame, shame on you if you can't dance too."
Brilliant song!!.
Oh my goodness!!. The amount of soul in both their vocals.. is perfection.
This was one of my favorite songs back when. I’d be dancing my ass off at Studio One in West Hollywood!

Well young folks gotta start feeling the love, not for one but for all.
Meaning of diamond in the back.

Though you may not drive a great big Cadillac
Gangsta whitewalls
TV antennas in the back
You may not have a car at all
But remember brothers and sisters
You can still stand tall
Just be thankful for what you've got
Though you may not drive a great big Cadillac
Diamond in the back, sunroof top
Diggin' the scene
With a gangsta lean
Gangsta whitewalls
TV antennas in the back”
Great Song. thanks for bringing that memory back.

All these years I thought the man singing was black. This was one of the first disco songs I ever heard, in 1974 I think.
One year later and still a guilty pleasure.
Massive hit in London at all the clubs. I remember dancing to this on the coloured glass dance floor of the Sombrero Club in Kensington High Street summer of ‘75
I was amazed then and I'm amazed still!! Fantastic.
Right on! Just fun in the 70’s! We all just hung out together to dance and party. Hope those days resurrect, we need it!
I want the world to be this. Happiness, joyful, rhythm, being alive and loving life 💖💖
