Shirley Bassey is a bona fide national treasure for the people of Great Britain.
for me, every Bond song should be song by Shirley Bassey.
To be more explicit she’s a credit to the country of Wales, indeed.
@@carolwaller9605 Ah, indeed. I did not know that. But it figures; the Welsh are noted for their beautiful singing!
The Queen thinks so .
And for all who love great music

I absolutely love the Lulu song The Man with the Golden Gun. Duran Duran was fire. A-ha was another great one. Adelle.
@@malkum61 You missed Matt Munroe on " From Russia with love", not overly well known but said to be one of Frank Sinatras favourite singers.
Why do t you guys do all of the James Bond movie songs, you will love them.😊
Tomorrow Never Dies.
Dame Shirley is one of the most famous Welsh singers of all time. See Goldfinger!
Dame Shirley Bassey and Sir Tom Jones are both from South Wales and often have recorded the same songs, they have both got some of the most powerful voices you will ever hear !
Dame (as awarded by the Queen) Shirley Bassey is one of the greatest live performers who has ever lived.
Her performances are legendary. She is adored by millions of fans like myself. It is a pity you did not see a video of her performing "Goldfinger" or "I, Who Have Nothing" or "Diamonds Are Forever" or the incredible "This Is My Life". If you did, you will sit there transfixed as you did for Pavarotti and for "Barcelona".
I Had Lunch With Our Late Much Missed Queen & Dame Shirley In 2006
Thanks for bringing this to light . Tiger Bay is very good
She was great in her performance on ‘Morecambe and Wise’ too, well worth a watch 🤣🤣🤣
@@vaughanwilliams761 so did I , it was great talking to u that 🌃 night . Remind me who are u again ? 🥃👍
She is in her 80s now and she is still giving incredible live performances.
Y’ll have to watch “Goldfinger” the movie! The song fits right in ! My favorite theme song ! She’s a powerhouse!
Look up her performance at Glastonbury festival. In her 80s and had the audience in the palm of her hands.
She did two other James Bond themes (Diamonds Are Forever & Moonraker). Beautiful voice!
No other artist has done more than 1 theme song for a Bond movie.
Movies with sean Connery a 007. Are great.i think even you kids woukd like them.they weren't made for the music. It's the espionage.😊
You also forgot Sheena Easton`s 007 Hit...For your Eyes Only...Beautifully Sung.... Oh,to Rob N Amber....Try the Movie Goldfinger...It`s AMAZING....Hell,try you only live twice..BOTH THE SONG AND THE MOVIE...Both`re amazing!!!
Bassey absolutely knocked this out of the park! There have been many great Bond theme songs but this is my favorite. There's something so sinister about it: the lyrics, the orchestration and, of course, Shirley Bassey's incomparable voice.
The original plan was to have her sing all the bond themes. I can't remember why they didn't .
She has a stage presence that is incredible, and it doubles your enjoyment to watch her.
That's It! On stage her presence gives another lights to the song... 👏🏻❤️
You reallly need to SEE a recording of her performing... She's so theatrical & simply wondeful, of national treasure status! 🇬🇧👍😊
She was so cool and glamorous.
Every live performance that she does is astounding because you see her with the full orchestra delivering sassy facial expressions and jestures like actress and opera singer! each performance is a magnificent jewel onto itself!
Dame Shirley Bassey is a national treasure in Wales and the UK. She is what used to be called a belter and push out a note like no other often likened to the female Tom Jones and has definitely done a few Vegas shows as well. Her version of "I who have nothing" is a total show stopper and my favourite version. She is now 86 and last performed live at the end of last year (she definitely still has it). Her life story is amazing and she has fought through so many adversities. She is still a very beautiful and elegant lady.
...................Grande , Grande , Grande or Never , Never , Never is my fave , she sings it with real emotion .
@@roystone9932 Her version of Spinning Wheel. It's almost worth watching The Gray Man just to hear it.
Shirley justifiably hates the term belter as it denies the skill, control and variety of her voice. she can apply the power when needed but is capable of massive subtelty as well. she's the only artist to have been chosen to do three Bond Themes but you could listen to "This is My Life", She made "Something"( one of George Harrison's songs for the beatles ) her own, and her great vocals on Propellerheads' " All just a Little Bit of History Repeating" which I think you might really appreciate.
She's from Cardiff, Sir Tom lived about 12 miles away in Pontypridd, both in Wales obviously ❤, national treasures.
@@richarddew7577 she's not from Cardiff lol she just lived there she's half African and half English.
Fun Fact! If you listen closely, you'll hear an acoustic guitar mixed in with the orchestra. And who was playing that guitar? None other than Jimmy Page, soon to be the rock god and guitarist with Led Zeppelin! He was a major session guitar player in his early career. Another little tidbit (I learned all of this in the documentary about Abbey Road Studios that Paul McCartney's daughter directed recently) is that Shirley Bassey held that final note for so long while she was waiting for the credits to end (she was watching while recording) that she fainted as soon as she finished, standing right near Jimmy.
I never heard this! BIG Jimmy Page fan, love these little tidbits! ❤
Thank you for that fun fact! I love learning new things!
did not know that. cool!
Interesting information! I did not now that tidbit of information. Thanks for sharing.
And produced by none other than George Martin!
Shirley Bassey is one of the finest singers ever to grace the stage..
Half of the joy of Shirley Bassey is watching her performance, she lives every note see sings, mesmerising ❤
Absolutely. Watching her perform adds so much more because of her particular mannerisms.
💯
Brilliant Shirley Bassey.....a huge rabbit hole to go down.....catch her singing live.....always a joy to watch and listen to....so dramatic ❤
Agreed
She's formidable. The Royal Mint are just featuring her on a special coin.
Not forgetting she's also a Dame 👏👏👏👏
She has an old "Broadway Voice". Imagine having to fill a theater without microphones, etc and you just have to belt it out. Have a Flash-Filled-Friday!!
They still have to sing to the back of the theater!
Decades ago they had to introduce microphones and amplifiers for the performers because many couldn't sing and be heard at the back of the theater! I know because my father was one of those with an old "Broadway Voice"! He was the best dramatic tenor on B'way from late 40's to late 70's and was in 30 shows(15 original casts) and could be heard easily and clearly in the last row of every show he was in.
The power of this beautiful woman's voice is unmatched, and she is the voice of the Bond movie franchise.
Gorgeous Shirley Bassey. What a voice. What a personality. She was a major singing star in the UK in the 1960s and 1970s and is still performing. From a humble background in South Wales she became a pop sensation with a very long career. Lovely lady.
Paul McCartney has a James Bond Theme , Live and Let Die , 1973
😂😂😂
I’m glad that you two found Dame Shirley Bassey. She is the only artist to have sung more than one James Bond, 007, theme song; Goldfinger, Moonraker, and Diamonds are Forever. It would be worthwhile finding a video where she sings live, her live performances add to the experience.
She was offered Goldeneye by Bono as well. When she turned it down, they approached Tina Turner as the next best option.
Another great Welsh singer like Tom Jones. What a powerful voice she has.
She's not even Welsh she's half African and half English. My people are not just a name but an ethnicity you have to half Welsh dna to be Welsh
She is Welsh. That's were she was born. It's her nationality. Her bi ethnic background has nothing to do where she was born and raised.
That's like saying someone that's half Caucasian and half Korean but was born in Canada isn't Canadian. They are if they're born there.
@@chalmapatterson544THANK YOU 👏!!
Diamonds are forever too she has a great voice and the movies were great grew up watching them you would love the bond movies and the songs are🔥🔥🔥😍
Fun Fact. Composer John Barry wanted Shirley to hold the high note at the end of the song as long as possible. After a few takes, she still wasn't holding the note as long as they wanted. So Shirley took off her bra and draped it over the top of the vocal booth, so she could "take a bigger breath" for the high note. On the last take she fainted at the end of the track.
Second fun fact. The guitar in this song was recorded by a young Jimmy Page (whom you all know as the guitarist of Led Zeppelin).
Shirley is without doubt one of the world's greatest and most powerful ever singers and performers. This song is THE quintessential 'Bond song'. If you guys haven't seen the films. I think it's time you do!
She did a great cover of “I Who Have Nothing”
Shirley , Tom Jones and Puddles Pity Party all did a great job covering this
Also, Ben E King.
When I did musicals back in the day we did not use mics. Finally we used them in Jesus Christ Superstar.
@@GreenEyedHazel
Thank You I have to check that out
I remember her on the Ed Sullivan show….also Cilla Black….I think they both did a cover of Goin Out of My Head…..a few years apart…Cilla sang the theme from Alfie….I vaguely remember Shirley singing Love Story(where do I begin)….also Big Spender
Also Haley Reinhart.
Shirley is the best female vocalist ever by a long long way
Wow, you have never heard this song before? So iconic, you need to do a movie reaction to "Goldfinger" 1964!
She last appeared in the Royal Albert Hall (London) in 2022. She's around 86 and still singing! 😀
The footage is on UA-cam and is well worth watching.
@@PaulWilliams-ko5fu I found it. Thank you. It was lovely to see her again. I do prefer her own songs to the James Bond themes but she's great whatever she sings.
She was born in 1932
Dame Shirley Bassey, has such an amazing voice. She's done 3 Bond Movie themes. But I love her performance for "I who have nothing." And even With the Propellerheads, "History Repeating". Long live Shirley!
You really need to see her perform her songs. Her stage presence and stage performance is as powerful as her singing.

DAME SHIRLEY BASSEYS VOICE IS SO POWERFUL AND SHE IS A GLOBAL SUPERSTAR AND SHE HAS BEEN A BRITISH ICON FOR 60 YEARS AND IS A LOVED NATIONAL TREASURE IN BRITAIN 🇬🇧!!!
SHIRLEY HAS BEEN CALLED THE FEMALE TOM JONES AND YOU HAVE TO WATCH A LIVE PERFORMANCE OF SHIRLEY TO SEE HOW GOOD SHE TRULY IS!!!
THE SONG 🎵 THIS IS MY LIFE !!! SUNG LIVE IN 1973 AT THE ALBERT HALL IS ABSOLUTELY AWESOME AND IS AVAILABLE ON YOU TUBE
You guys NEED to do some James Bond Flicks! Killer action, Killer gadgets, and some awesome double entendre one liners! The definition of cool!
Guys been waiting for you to find SHIRLEY BASSEY--she is the female TOM JONES...they are both Welsh about the same age who both sing great live and have super powerful voices AND they are both still going in their 80's!
What is it about Welsh people and their fabulous voices? The female Tom Jones. Miss Bassey used to headline all the top UK variety shows, think she was at Glastonbury in recent years. She wore backless dresses and was glamour personified in her heyday, she is still a glamorous woman. Hey Big Spender, Diamonds are Forever and I who have nothing are some of her popular hits
Dame Shirley Bassey has a large catalogue of songs. History Repeating with Propellerhead. Big Spender. Diamonds are Forever. Look But Don't Touch.
WoW I just got goosebumps . My mother went to tap dance school with Shirley Bassey . I lived in Tiger Bay from the of 11 til I was 15 where she and my mother were both from , all my family on my mom’s side is in Cardiff …
Oh wow so glad you've found Dame Shirley Bassey ❤ another singer from Wales 👏👏
In the seventies in Wales we always talked proudly of our shirl, and our tom. Shirl being Shirley Bassey, and Tom being Tom Jones.
As for Divas
Diana Ross
Madonna
Mariah Carey
Pah!
Shirley Bassey wrote the book on being a diva. Watch a live performance by her and you'll see what I mean.
She's Welsh and they can't stop singing. Even though it rains a lot there.
She is LEGENDARY!!!! She actually did a cover of “Get This Party Started” by Pink that is BRILLIANT. Also, check her out with the Propeller Heads singing “History Repeating Itself”- AMAZING!!!❤
History Repeating is a GREAT song!!!
Another vote for “History Repeating”. I love that song!
And not forgetting her collaboration with Yello, The Rhythm Divine so, so good
Dame Shirley Bassey the Girl from Tiger bay in Cardiff Wales. My father’s favourite singer of all time. I saw her live as a teenager and was wowed. Start the Bond films with Dr No
My dad's fave too. 🏴
Are you from Cardiff? My mother was born and raised in Cardiff . My grandfather opened the first Indian restaurant in Cardiff in the 50’s called The Bombay
@@craigarandolph No I'm from Swansea, that's cool that your mother was born and raised in Cardiff.
@@emmahowells8334 yeah I lived in The Docks and Tiger Bay from the age of 11 til I was 15 . My grandfather opened the first Indian restaurant in Cardiff called The Bombay in the 50’s

You really need to see her perform. She is a true performer and you just don’t get the full Shirley vibe without watching her. She was massive in the 1970s and munched loved in the UK.
How can Dame Shirley Bassey sing so well.
She’s Welsh! 🏴
Ever since I found you guys, I've been binging your videos. Love watching you guys listen to a lot of the oldies I grew up with. I love being a 60's baby🙏🏾💙😇👍🏾
Shirley is a national treasure here in the UK. Now i am going to recommend another, Cilla Black. I will keep things short with the details, she was born in Liverpool and worked as a cloakroom assistant at the cavern club (made famous by The Beatles) where she would get up and sing a song with whichever group were performing that night (inc The Beatles). She eventually got a record contract with her first song being written by The Beatles. She sadly passed away in 2015, the song i recommend to show the power of her voice is "You're my World".
Alfie is also a classic..
Shirley Bassey Rocks, Diamonds are forever , This is my Life, History Repeating, I am what I am, Born to Lose too many to list. Thank you for reacting to her she is a gem!
Shirley is an icon and a legend! She's definitely theatrical! Wonderful Welsh songstress! And - she sounds absolutely amazing even nowadays - you wouldn't believe it! Yes, Diamonds are Forever is out of this world too - as is Moonraker (both also James Bond tunes) Very old school glam performer - Teehee 'Hey Big Spender' is one to check out too! 'The minute he walked in the joint!' (DUMDOOM!!)- 'I could tell he was a man of distinction - a real big spend-ah!' Classic,. She's amazing.
Another Shirley Bassey song you should give a listen to is 'Hey Big Spender'.
Love you reactions folks. ❤
What a voice! What a song! Enjoy! There are many 007 movies. Goldfinger is one of the best. Saw it in the theater. Thanks!
Wow, you're old,lol.
Yes, great voice. It's interesting to think that the James Bond film series is becoming less and less known. There was a time when I and my school friends had seen and could discuss all the Bond movies up to that time in great detail.
Bond: "You expect me to talk?"
Goldfinger: "No Mr. Bond, I expect you to die!"
Watching Shirley Bassey live is an experience. Hopefully you can do another few more songs by her but should be a video of a live performance. Her voice is incredible and her expressions are just wonderful. Big Spender, This is my life, Never never never.
Now, I hope you also do some more Tina Turner, live performance of Nutbush from 2000 Twenty Four Seven Tour - don’t miss out on this iconic experience 🧡
Her voice was and is still so amazing. She was such a hot mama back in the day too. Always had these sultry dresses on. Whenever people say singers back in the day never dressed like that when talking about modern artists, link them to Shirley 😉
Any reason you never watched her doing a live performance, you really have to see her live to appreciate her whole performance of any of her songs.
Oh please react to live videos of this powerhouse of a lady. What a classy ultimate Diva that you will see clearly from a live video of her singing this song as well as Diamonds are Forever….Another powerful classic Oh what a Gem!
Forgot to comment on the song, Lol. Absolutely epic voice this Lady has! There's something in the water over in Wales that works magic on people's voices. Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, Dusty Springfield, Bonny Tyler. Shirley has a unique signature tone, and a vibrato that is unmistakably hers. Any song she sings, she grabs your attention from the first note, and holds it through the entire song. Truly one of a kind!
That vibrato is the key to stardom. When they say you either have it or you don't I assume that's exactly what they meant.
....Dusty Springfield was from London..😊
She's not Welsh she's half African and half English.
Powerhouse of a voice which is enhanced only by watching her perform live. She's hypnotic to watch and she has a huge back catalogue to explore. Although there are many great Bond themes, for me this is THE iconic Bond theme 👌
OMG Dame Shirley is one of my favourite singers/performers ever!!! The way I hurried to click on this! It won't be enough though. Y'all need to see her in motion. Her live performances are amaaaaazing, both as a young woman and as a older lady. Please react to Shirley Bassey - "Diamonds Are Forever."
Such an iconic song, from an iconic 007 spy movie from 1963. James Bond. "Martini...shaken, not stirred." The ultimate line in every Bond movie ever made. This is the best Bond movie theme song of them all in my opinion.
Thanks
Also first movie appearance of the 1964 1/2 Mustang
Lovely lady from Tiger bay, Wales. What a voice. Love your reactions, you genuinely feel the music. Respect from Melbourne Oz.
Oh, you have to see her perform. She is just absolutely fabulous! It’s unbelievable!
Bassey is brilliant recorded, but otherworldly live. She has one if the best ever pop voices but might be the greatest actor of a song we've ever seen. It adds so much to her already incredible sound.
Shirley Bassey one of THEE Most Iconic Divas in Music. One of the most Imitated by Drag Queens the World Over because her music lends itself to over expression, always a great show. Thanks for the Fun. Made Me Smile, Again. Now Go Find, ''History Repeating'' another Bassey Classic. !!! LOVE HER !!
Amber, you talk about her matching the note of the horn. I've been trying my best to get you guys to listen to _The Manhattan Transfer_ forever, because that's what they're known for. Their style is known as Vocalese and they can match the pitch and rhythm of instruments. They're an amazing jazz/R&B/Swing group that started out in their teens and twenties about fifty years ago, and though one member/the founder, Tim Hauser passed away, they added a new male singer and still perform.
They use a lot of jazz/beatnik lingo from the past, and I've even offered to translate for you in email. You can look at the lyrics while listening, but you likely wouldn't understand them.
Again, I suggest....
"Twilight Zone/Twilight Tone"
"The Offbeat of Avenues"
"Birdland"
"Killer Joe"
"Ray's Rockhouse"
"So You Say"
One of my favorite groups! Though I've never heard "The Offbeat of Avenues."
A Nightingale Sang on Berkeley Square is my favorite of theirs.
THIS!! Hardly anyone reacts to Manhattan Transfer! I just know that once one of these prominent yt'ers does a reaction probably the rest will follow. I am a huge MT fan. Have seen them AT LEAST 10 times. They ALWAYS BLOW EVERYONE AWAY!
Need more jazz in general. Stan Getz Girl from Ipanema. Saxophone!!!!
Plus one for Manhattan Transfer! My favorite one from them is Birdland.
I LOVE Dame Shirley, she used to go to school with my aunt, who complained that Shirley never stopped singing in school..😂😂🏴
Shirley Bassey’s cover of the Beatles “Something” is great 👍🏻 too
You’ll love lots of the Bond themes: Tina Turner (Goldeneye), Gladys Knight (License to Kill), Adele (Skyfall), Sheena Easton (For Your Eyes Only), just to name a few…
Carly Simon from the Spy Who Loved Me.
You can’t forget “Live and Let Die” by Wings!
Mostly black women
The films...
The Bond Girls...
The Theme songs...
All are classics...
OMG AT LAST YOU GUYS HAVE DISCOVERED THE ICONIC SUPERSTAR DAME SHIRLEY BASSEY AND SHIRLEY HAS BEEN SINGING FOR 60 YRS AND SHE IS LOVED AND ADORED IN BRITAIN 🇬🇧 AND SHE IS KNOWN AS OUR SHIRLEY!!!

Her song, THIS IS MY LIFE has made her an icon in ❤certain communities.
IMO- THIS Is The Best Movie Theme Song of All Time! Her voice is clear and powerful. Great Reaction, You Guys! You would love the Movie also!
Diamonds are Forever. Is just as good 👍
I heartily agree @rwschumm
She did a smashing jazz trip-hop record with a group called Propellerheads called "History Repeating" from 1997 with a cool video. She also did a great non-Bond theme called "The Liquidator" where she really shows off a lot of her vocal ability with mysterious slightly sinister jazz backing and those big horns.
Yes yes

I listen to Dame Shirley Bassey at least couple times yearly. She is so amazing and i fell for her Singing "Diamonds Are Foreverr" theme. great choice.
She deserves a video reaction, especially Diamonds Are Forever. She's a performer and captivating to watch.
Omg I wished you had done a live performance, to see her in action!! You really have to see her perform, she is so bloody amazing!! Hope next when you react to her please look at a live performance!
Just like you said: Theatrical that is what she bring into her performance!
Shirley bassey jazzey these kids don't realise who this artist is a legend
Proper Diva. She can hit those nots and still does in her 80s just like Tom.
She was very young when she sang this. The movie is very good too.
Class with a cherry on top. One of the original Divas.
Guys, you two have got to listen to more of Shirley's famous songs as she has more power than any other female singer on the planet. She did three Bond Movie songs but she's not limited to that!
You really need to watch Shirley as she performs the songs with so much passion. Try 'This is my life'.
AT LAST. YES. SO MANY SONGS TO CHOOSE FROM. WELSH LIKE OUR TOM.X
Yesss my mother was from Tiger Bay Cardiff and went to school with Shirley , are from Wales 🏴?
Shirley Bassey is a vocal powerhouse!
You need to see her live to get the full "Bassey" effect. She is so awesome
There have been 25 James Bond OO7 movies in total starting with "Dr No" in 1962 and the last (so far) being "No time to die) in 2021.
"Gold Finger" was released 1964.
My personal favorite Bond theme song has to be Paul McCartney's "Live and let die" from 1973!
Matt Monro:From Russia With Love...what a voice that Sintra said was the best:)
Shirley Bassey is a Dame in the UK, very respected as a singer!
Goldfinger-one of the best Bond films, with the best theme and the best Bond (Sean Connery)
Her And Tom Jones are the Two Best Welsh Singers Wonderful Vocals.
She had a hit in 1997 with the Propellerheads. The song was "History Repeating." While the song was clever, it wouldn't have been anything without Shirley Bassey's incredible voice. A really fun song and video if you want to give it a listen.
Shame you didn't see her doing it live, you'd see just how good she was. She did finally call it a day a few years ago.
You really should watch Shirley sing.... Amazing! Very glamorous.
You really need to watch her perform she's fabulous. Another Welsh legend.
I'm pretty sure Jay's ears will perk up if you check out "Diamonds are forever" next, due to it being sampled for a very well known hip hop track. Absolutely iconic voice.
Dame Shirley Bassey is from Tiger bay Cardiff in Wales UK, 🏴 yes this is from James bond.
I live in Tiger Bay as a kid , that’s where my mum’s from
@@craigarandolph That's cool, I'm from Wales too, just a different part. 🏴
Her name is Dame Shirley bassey and she's from Wales. Also the the only singer who has done more than one James Bond theme song it being the man with the golden gun.. And would love for her to do one more James Bond theme as it would be great to have her do it.
NOT HEARD OF DAME SHIRLEY BASSEY ...........you are in for a real treat .
She, to me, is one of the all time greats. Still going strong at 86 years old. Check out Diamonds are Forever (also a Bond tune), Hey, Big Spender, I Am What I Am, This is My Life, I Who Have Nothing, and her cover of Pink's Get the Party Started.
Shirley is an unbelievable talent, a real legend that has never ever been matched!! So so unique and her voice gives me goosebumps. Love her.
If you want to hear something much more recent from Ms. Bassey, you should check out the collab she did with the Propellerheads called "History Repeating". You won't regret it!
She's also fascinating to watch - hugely over the top melodramatic. Fantastic singer and stylist.
Saw her live in the 1980a. Always watched her 1970s TV show every weekend for a while. Amazing talent. My mother used to be mistaken for her when she was young lol
"Gravitas" is the adjective I would use to describe Shirley Bassey's voice. It has a strong, theatrical sense of drama to it. It's almost melodramatic. It's perfect for the song.
The definitive Bond song. Now you need to watch the film. Goldfinger is the third 007 film. You also need to continue the Shirley Bassey journey.
How could you NOT, know this song, and Singer. And it's Dame Shirley Bassey
Shirley is pure class!
She also sang another Bond theme "Diamonds are Forever"
Just for the record, Shirley comes from the same part of the world as one of your favourite singers....Tom Jones....Wales!
The Welsh are renowned for having amazing singing voices....you may want to check out more of Shirley, she's still belting them out today in her mid 80's!
Didn't she do Moonraker too? In my mind, Shirley Bassey was made for the Bond films.
