Thank you very much for taking the time to make these videos, they are fantastic. I just pulled my CZF transmission which I purchased from a gentleman two years ago for my hot rod. I installed it last week only to find the pressure never got above 90lbs with the TV cable in (60lbs) or pulling it out in any gear. I have read the theory of operation manual and the ASTG overhaul manual and your videos bring it all together. I believe the transmission was OK when I bought it, and I got the rebuild receipt that he had done before he installed it. He ran it for a summer then switched to a muncie 4 spd. Anyway, I'm hoping it's just due to sitting around for three years.?? Can you tell us who's rebuild kit you're using ? Looking forward to the next video !! I can't thank you enough for taking the time and doing great videos !!!
Thanks for watching and the NICE feedback!!!! I certainly appreciate it! That seems like some low pressure if you see it in manual d1 and d2. If you have some time why not take it apart and give it a 'refresh'... maybe just some stuck valves in the pump or valvebody. Yup, it's a ckperformance.com rebuild kit that I'm using. I had good luck in the past with his stuff so I'll stay with it. Editing part 7 now...
Yes !!!, I ordered the C kit from CKperformance yesterday. I built a holder for the Transmission and will finish up making a pump puller tonight. I'm excited to see the new hard ? parts your going to be using.
AWESOME Tim!! Chris has some great stuff. In part 7 I'll show some more of his pump stuff from his shift recalibration kit. Tons of hard parts though when we 'stuff the case'. I like the idea of creating the tool yourself for sure! If you run into some issues I heard a 2 or 3 leg gear puller makes a useable pump puller... something like one of these www.harborfreight.com/three-jaw-puller-set-3-pc-63953.html I never tried it though just heard about it 'from a guy'.
Phil I apologize if you may have commented on this question already but my GN came with a 10 or a 13 vane option. Do you have any opinions either way or is the stock 7 vane enough? This info is golden and I plan on rebuilding mine again soon using your guidance. My 2-3 is a little soft even after a recent rebuild. I told the rebuilder that my direct clutch pack clearance was a little out of speck after my attempt at installing the 8 (I think was the number increase) red eagles from Art Carr but I don't know if he addressed that. Thanks again
Thanks for asking! I'm ok with either a 7 or 10 vane system(not a fan of the 13). By FAR the most important part is getting the rotor/slide pocket clearance spec right... 7 or 10 vanes won't make a noticeable difference. In this build I'm using the stock 7 vane... if yours is ok use it without worry. 👍 Good luck with your build!!!
Thanks for asking! If I understand your question you mean instead of 1-3 thou the measurement is larger... like 5 thou(for example)? In that case, if we milled 'the hole' in the center where I was showing to sand with the 400 grit the measurement would be even bigger which would be a bad thing. I'm guessing that's not what you mean.... We should mill the entire plate cover surface 'except that hole' to make it thinner and tighten the gap. Ideally do both sides(for example 1thou each side if you were chopping 2 thou total) to ensure they are flat and mate together better. So, yes a machine shop should be able to do that... assuming they are actually flat faces. Good luck with your build! 🤙🏎
Yup, every little action helps for sure!! GM was nice enough to eventually fix it by putting a lip on the housing for us in the 3rd generation 690 pump 'front'... but I wasn't lucky enough to have one lol Actually in part 7(in editing stage now) I use the green loctite for the bushing but agree that red is probably ok too since most people have that and we'll use it for the stator support hex bolt replacement too. Some folks stake the bushing as well but I'm not going to.

Thanks, good idea. I ended up just using some scrap steel and made it pretty much like to tool you used.

Hi phill, if the measurement is a little to big, can the piece you condition with 400 grit be milled?
Thanks for asking!

@@wrenchingwithphil When the reassembly video coming out ?
part 7 is filmed just needs to be edited... hopefully releasing this weekend!
@@wrenchingwithphil ok cool looking forward to it 👍👍👍
A little Red Loctite would take care of that pump bushing issue ....
