Great review as always. This seems to come in at a great price imo, but the overshoot despite relatively mediocre response times is a bit disappointing. On another note entirely, do you have any plans to review the AOC Q27G3XMN? 1440p 180hz mini-led all for under $300. It almost seems too good to be true, and I've yet to see more than one english review of it.
I love the yearly ritual of forgetting about monitors for 11 months and then frantically diving into the latest and greatest in displays during a 2-week binge like a manic child who received way too many christmas presents
I just got the AOC Q24G2A shipped from the UK to the US. 24" 1440p 165hz gsync ips, a rare size it looks really sharp, 123ppi. I wish Tim would have looked at it on here, but looking at 3 reviews of it online they all pretty much said the same thing, it's a fantastic monitor for the size/price😊
Hey, i just bought this monitor a few days ago for productivity + gaming after having a very cheap 75hz VA since 2017. The colors are pretty ok and the lower contrast doesnt bother me too much but theres (to my eyes) horrible bleeding thats noticable even in brighter scenes from around 20 brightness during daylight and the edges of the screen are a lot darker than the middle of the screen. The 165hz feel really good and the resolution looks perfect but the screen being so uneven is ruining my experience. Is this to be expected at this price point with IPA or should i return it?
just picked this up for $350 on sale and couldn't be happier! beautiful monitor that honestly exceeded my expectations. i actually had the new w-oled from lg and HATED it. felt so misled by the oled hype and even tho it is g-sync certified it had horrible flickering with it enabled. turns out pretty much all oleds flicker with gsync 🤷🏻♂️ im totally happy with this ips panel until oled is more refined.
Really want to get next years 360hz OLED but compared to this monitor and the price it’s going to be a crazy difference. This monitor with gsync set up correctly is probably amazing. Even though the overdrive stats are not good enough for 240hz looks like.
I know I have probably been lucky with my particular unit but my Samsung Odyssey G7 performs so much better than these IPS monitors it's crazy. If Samsung could just get their quality control down or offer their exact pannel tuning to a different manufacturer with better quality control, they would absolutely steal the market.
Same here, splendid monitor. Owned mine for 4 years before I started to get performance issues with it, just wish for better quality given I have cheaper monitors that have lasted longer.
@@valentinvas6454 240 Hz 8b (24.6 Gb/s) almost maxes out DP 1.4 (25.9 Gb/s). 240 Hz 10b (30.8 Gb/s) requires DSC. On this monitor I would prefer HDMI 2.1 (42.0 Gb/s) because you can get away without DSC.
@@cl4ster17 and it works well. I've been using this monitor at 240Hz 1440P for many months now. You can clearly tell the difference. Over HDMI 2.1 my exclusive fullscreen games alt-tab immediately like the old days. Over DP1.4 it's a 5 second wait at least. Avoiding any DSC probably has other advantages too but that one alone keeps me on HDMI.
@@nightin5284 Its all around a really good monitor. Has really good quality and accurate vibrant colors. Cant complain about anything with this monitor besides it being a IPS Panel so the corners of the screen have some backlight bleed when viewing at angles. Overall its worth it for $300. I got 3500 hours on mine and love it. Just waiting for the OLED market to drop in price so for now im really happy with it especially for PC gaming and work.
Yeah that's the first thing I thought when I saw the response times in the middle refresh rates, it reads like a heavily overclocked 144-165hz panel. Probably also explains the lack of backlight strobing. The strangest thing is that it's not even made by LG.. they're sourcing BOE panels for this generation of 1440/4k monitors and focusing almost entirely on OLED.
Returning the LG 27GP83B-B.AUS in a few hours. It seems like this monitor's little brother lol It's a good monitor after correcting the color settings, but decided to just grab a 4k on blackfriday. The only weird quirk on this monitor is that running free sync seemed to cause me a flick issue randomly. Disappeared when I disabled it. I didn't notice any other difference after I disabled it so I'm unsure why it was on by default. Anyways, if someone wants something in the 144 or 165 range and doesn't care about freesync (unless that's just the monitor i got), I can recommend it.
Any chance you'll get a look at the ASUS VG27AQML1A? It's in a similar price range, boasts a 260hz refresh rate, and appears to be very similar feature wise. There's like nothing out about this monitor, and I'd love a fairly direct comparison between the VG27AQML1A, The MSIG274QPX, and the LG lg 27gr83q. Yes I've posted this in the MSI video as well. It's a good year for 1440P 27" 240hz monitors, so would be nice to get a possible 3rd review out there for what looks to be a solid monitor. You guys do amazing work, so it would help a ton of folks if you could check this monitor out.
@@bront_catherder Thanks for the response. it's worse in terms of color or response time? The LG does not have any Backlight strobing feature that's why I am a bit hesitant to get it. The price very similar in my region for both and the MSI model straight out isn't available.
@@Aleeto_ Worse in terms of color accuracy, viewing angles and viewing angle. AKA, it looked significantly worse to the human eye (IE no tools). They did not have any way to check motion, and didn't comment on it, as they returned it within a few hours because it was NOT good. Given from what I can tell, the LG and MSI are a new generation, while the ASUS is an older gen, so I'd go LG, which also has HDMI 2.1 which is a huge plus. I have the MSI G274QPX and love it, but I get it's also lacking compared to the LG in a few areas, but no regrets, as I got it for $320 before the LG dropped to $350, and it wasn't worth the hassle of returning.

I don't get advertising a monitor as 240Hz when its refresh compliance is so low. It literally can not produce 240 frames every second most of the time. This seems to me as much if not more of the same kind of fail as claiming ".1ms response time" (in my opinion, more, as it has more of an effect on what you actually see). Yet another example of making false claims in order to charge more - you would do better to buy a lower rated refresh rate panel with better response times for less money over paying an inflated price for something you aren't really getting anyway.
Nothing can beat a CRT when it comes to input latency. There is no processing. However, LCD goes to 500+ hz nowadays so the smoothness , motion clarity and input latency are getting better and better. The huge drawback is the processing power needed for that fps. At the moment you can not have the input latency and motion clarity of a CRT, on any other type of screen.
@@sogetsu60 sure it can, it has zero processing and response lag, but it still has high input lag thanks to it's low refresh rate. any good 240+ lcd will beat it thanks to that, not to mention 360 and 540 panels
I got this monitor for 345$ on black friday. I have the LG850 and wanted another LG monitor for my setup. Good to see it did better with the contrast because that's the only compliant with the LG850 for me.
I bought a very similar monitor to this one but OLED (27gr95qe) its quite dim and I find it tedious to use even in a dark room the blacks are stunning but its still not worth the $779 I paid for it. I think mini LED might be right for me
Though I don’t know if any new good options have been released, if there has been I would love to see some reviews of MiniLed monitors I do quite a bit of productive work such as coding with static UI so OLED is a no go for me, but for when I have a time for a nice gaming session, or watch a movie good visuals are more important to me than refresh rate and latency so MiniLed monitor would be the best option for me (i think) I also play more single-player games than competitive as of late so that might also be affecting my preference Thank you for these reviews, and good work!
Tim has reviewed the Cooler Master Tempest MiniLED monitors, but yeah, I agree. Availability in Australia might be a problem, although you'd think some of the Asian models would be on offer. Maybe the lack of availability in other markets makes it not worth it? I'd love to see a review of the AOC AG274QXM f.ex
Samsung Neo G7 seemed to be decent, and AOC also made some mini LED displays that idk much about. Otherwise, most of those displays are professional ones that generally are 60hz and very colour accurate.
Just picked one up from Best Buy this past week, using it mainly for office purposes with MacOS. I have noticed, though, that whites look a bit grainy/fuzzy or whatever. Hard to describe.. is this normal? I’m just wondering if it’s the matte cover over the display that’s causing it.
Okay, it's fair to dump on ACER, but my panels have lasted for years with decent performance and zero dead pixels. They could use better inputs and features but when they're available at the appropriate price I'll at least consider them.
Why is it fair to dump on Acer? I also have a monitor of theirs for years with 0 issues. I have also bought several of their 1080p gaming laptops and have 0 complains for the price. Of course I'd like better screens on these laptops but you do get what you pay for.
the reason for the glaring differences is the fact that the panel for this monitor is from BOE and not LG.Display. the 27gp850 uses a panel from LG.Display. LG.Display is all in on the OLED hype train🚄
Right now the lg 27gr83q is at $299USD, and I have snatched one. Also in terms of value, do you guys think I am better off getting the AOC AG276QZD2 for $100USD more, as it is OLED?
thats the dilema everyone is having rn with blackfriday deals 83Q is a very solid monitor and you know you are getting a deal the AOC Agon pro is fairly new so there arent many reviews out there, its OLED which is nice but its nothing to brag about when compared to other oleds. doing more research before I decide
6 months later, still not out in Europe. They made a shit ton of the 27GP850B and don’t want to release this one until the gp850B clears out the stock. Shitty move.
Yo is this better than the Msi Optix MAG274QRF-QD ? , both are at $359 rn ,also is worth getting one at that price rn or should i wait to black friday?
Bought a AW2723DF recently for £320. Dell had a sale on and you could stack a student discount (all hail part time courses) 280hz 1440p. "HDR" as always can be ignored. Not the greatest contrast and some slight light bleed. The usual IPS glow. Honestly at full price, £540, this would have been returned but for £320 and the fact I work from home and needed a monitor, I can put up with it.
I am undecided between this one and Odyssey G9 OLED. I know the two are completely different but still I am between this and that. If I get a G9 OLED it has positives like the smart TV features, not just the apps the auto brightness etc. too. Then again I'm afraid it will be too wide for my desk and for gaming in general. I'm not sure if I can use the horizontal space effectively. On the one hand I want an OLED soooo bad, on the other hand I want an ordinary 16:9 IPS monitor. I'd get a 16:9 OLED but the price difference isn't that much when comparing it to a 32:9 OLED. I game almost every evening for 3 - 4 hrs and an writing a thesis, usually while I'm at the office so I feel like I'll only use the one I'll buy for gaming. I do play a lot of ETS2 though, so the super ultrawide might be useful.
Seeing this on sale for ~$350 US at multiple outlets, including the LG store. Noticed its the 27GR83Q-B.AUS variant though. Wondering what the difference is. And the question is, at the equivalent price of MSI G274QPX and slightly cheaper than Gigabyte M27Qx (which I have been seeing around $450-435 on AMZN), is this the go to over either of those?
can you do a review of the new revision of the m27qx? It's a different panel but they claim all specs are the same besides improved colour accuracy. I've heard the build quality might be lower though

When using the control button, i find its very unresponsive and i have yo press ot several timess to bring up the menu or port selection option. Will buy the 240HZ LG as my main gaming monitor.
Should I go with something like this monitor or get the ViewSonic XG2431? I primarily play esports fps games, and I'm able to run both 1440 and 1080 at/above 240fps. I recently bought the LG 27GP83B-B, and motion clarity wasn't as good as my current 165hz TN. I also didn't exactly like the 27" size. Would it also be a good idea to wait for more monitors to come out, like 24" 1440p options? I know AOC had one that surfaced.
?! Lord let me not be late to the party. Don’t buy the view sonic, I’ve seen some people having quality control issues, their ViewSonic monitors have been shipped with dead pixel or not working. Hold off on that and look for something else. I think aoc is the better choice.
@nolyfe4814 I pulled the trigger already lol. Actually pretty happy with it. Motion clarity and 240hz is solid. Colors are good too. Only issue is some minor backlight bleed but it's not noticeable in most use.
I am not sure if MU will consider this comment at all, but I would like to see a review/comparison for a completely different segment of market that has nothing to do with gaming: office/developer monitors. As strange as it sounds, looking for 27" PWM-free, eye care/low blue light, 16:10 monitor with low contrast (ISP), 1440p, is not that easy.

also don't forget that oled is a no go for productive work, like coding, excel files, mailing. Low texture clearity and burn in is too high of a drawback
really? I never ever had a monitor die on me or have dead pixels. In our office, we jsut swapped a dozen of FullHd screens to upgrade for 4K and ultrawides, but none of them wherre defective. those were donated. I still use 10+ FullHd IPS monitors myself. Same with TVs@@SweatyFeetGirl
@@SweatyFeetGirl I also never had even one monitor with dead pixle, and I had 5,6 or them. Some of them are few years old.
Even my 20 year old monitor is still fine
Great review as always. This seems to come in at a great price imo, but the overshoot despite relatively mediocre response times is a bit disappointing. On another note entirely, do you have any plans to review the AOC Q27G3XMN? 1440p 180hz mini-led all for under $300. It almost seems too good to be true, and I've yet to see more than one english review of it.
not sure if this one correct or rtings
on rtings is 3.3 gtg
I love the yearly ritual of forgetting about monitors for 11 months and then frantically diving into the latest and greatest in displays during a 2-week binge like a manic child who received way too many christmas presents
This is exactly why I dont save money
Don't see it available in the Australian market, so might have to wait a bit longer before I upgrade my monitors.
just picked this up for $350 on sale and couldn't be happier! beautiful monitor that honestly exceeded my expectations. i actually had the new w-oled from lg and HATED it. felt so misled by the oled hype and even tho it is g-sync certified it had horrible flickering with it enabled. turns out pretty much all oleds flicker with gsync 🤷🏻♂️ im totally happy with this ips panel until oled is more refined.
100% agree with this post , OLED flickering is horrible and text clarity.
Really want to get next years 360hz OLED but compared to this monitor and the price it’s going to be a crazy difference. This monitor with gsync set up correctly is probably amazing. Even though the overdrive stats are not good enough for 240hz looks like.
Just bought this for $332usd thanks to your reviews. Most informative monitor reviews by far
This monitor has been going on fairly regular rotating sale in the US for $350, which seems like a no-brainer at that price point.
349 with 2 HDMI 2.1 ports seems like a good price but I think display port 1.4 would be just fine.
DP 1.4 can do 1440p 240 FPS at 10 bit without compression but HDMI 2.0 can't so 2.1 can be useful in certain situations.
Just ordered the LG UltraGear 27GR83Q-B for around 330€, can’t wait for it to arrive 👏🏽
And what’s your opinion about this monitor?
@@nightin5284 Its all around a really good monitor. Has really good quality and accurate vibrant colors. Cant complain about anything with this monitor besides it being a IPS Panel so the corners of the screen have some backlight bleed when viewing at angles. Overall its worth it for $300. I got 3500 hours on mine and love it. Just waiting for the OLED market to drop in price so for now im really happy with it especially for PC gaming and work.
Just bought this one on sale for $350. It’s not a fancy OLED monitor but that’s a hard price to beat for this.
almost 7ms pixel response time...
another roided up 144Hz Panel. :/
Anyways, if someone wants something in the 144 or 165 range and doesn't care about freesync (unless that's just the monitor i got), I can recommend it.
no issues on my lg27gp850 honestly, no flickers, no problems whatsoever
What's the difference with the -B.AUS variant?
@@Rustydude2030 The 27GP83B-B.AUS is last year's 1440p 165Hz LG monitor.
Did you find any good reviews? I'm torn between this and the Vg27aqml1a
@@Aleeto_ None, but what I've found on reddit, it's not as good as the LG or the MSI G274QPX.
I just picked up the new aoc q27g3xmn, it's a mini led HVA panel (seems like the same one as the g7) with good dimming zones and stuff. Would be interesting to see your take on it, I haven't got it delivered yet.
Have you already got it? What are your impressions?
@@legianw4954 dogwater lmao. Has typical va smearing, hdr doesn't look great, local dimming has some significant blooming, and the color is extremely red. It's probably a good upgrade if you don't have an IPS but that's about it
@@SeventhCircle77oh wow, I'm glad I read this! Was really considering that mini led AOC, but i ended up going with this monitor the 27GR83U-B for $350 on sale.
I'm glad to know I dodged a bullet with that AOC monitor!
@@KrazzeeKaneMay i ask if you have overshoot ghosting at "fast" mode when hertz drop down to 120?
I don't get advertising a monitor as 240Hz when its refresh compliance is so low. It literally can not produce 240 frames every second most of the time. This seems to me as much if not more of the same kind of fail as claiming ".1ms response time" (in my opinion, more, as it has more of an effect on what you actually see). Yet another example of making false claims in order to charge more - you would do better to buy a lower rated refresh rate panel with better response times for less money over paying an inflated price for something you aren't really getting anyway.
would love to see a high end CRT compared to some of these modern high refresh monitors to see what the difference in lag is.
The panel of LG 27GR83Q-B is better?? or LG 27GP850-B is better??
@@Cryson99the gr83q is 240hz and they're saying that it is better because it has higher contrast

can you please do a aoc q27g3xmn review, its a 336 zones 1440p 27 va for 280$
do you have a website where i can see does monitor charts?
I feel like this just isn't a 240hz display? Unless I'm mistaken about how important grey 2 grey response time is for delivering 240hz
I bought a very similar monitor to this one but OLED (27gr95qe) its quite dim and I find it tedious to use even in a dark room the blacks are stunning but its still not worth the $779 I paid for it. I think mini LED might be right for me
Not that well tuned overdrive
Just got it from B&H for 220 including tax and shipping. Is that a great steal?
that’s a steal
Though I don’t know if any new good options have been released, if there has been I would love to see some reviews of MiniLed monitors
I do quite a bit of productive work such as coding with static UI so OLED is a no go for me, but for when I have a time for a nice gaming session, or watch a movie good visuals are more important to me than refresh rate and latency so MiniLed monitor would be the best option for me (i think)
I also play more single-player games than competitive as of late so that might also be affecting my preference
Thank you for these reviews, and good work!
AOC has a new 27" 1440p mini led monitor, model is Q27G3XMN. Would really like to see a english review of it.
I actually got this recently for 350$ when it was on sale I’m pretty happy with it
Man, just last week I said outlout "I really hope Tim covers this monitor", because I wanted more info lol. Saved my ass.
Ordered this monitor yesterday on Amazon, on sale for $350!
Im about to buy it for 500 💀
Okay, it's fair to dump on ACER, but my panels have lasted for years with decent performance and zero dead pixels.
How does this compare with the m27q x and new 240hz monitor from msi?
Right now the lg 27gr83q is at $299USD, and I have snatched one.
Also in terms of value, do you guys think I am better off getting the AOC AG276QZD2 for $100USD more, as it is OLED?
thats the dilema everyone is having rn with blackfriday deals
83Q is a very solid monitor and you know you are getting a deal
the AOC Agon pro is fairly new so there arent many reviews out there, its OLED which is nice but its nothing to brag about when compared to other oleds.
doing more research before I decide
Hey TIm, is there a notable difference between this and the LG 27GR75Q besides the 240Hz instead of 165Hz?
Still not available in Europe...
Does anyone know its release date?
6 months later, still not out in Europe. They made a shit ton of the 27GP850B and don’t want to release this one until the gp850B clears out the stock. Shitty move.
Yo is this better than the Msi Optix MAG274QRF-QD ? , both are at $359 rn ,also is worth getting one at that price rn or should i wait to black friday?
Bought a AW2723DF recently for £320.
Dell had a sale on and you could stack a student discount (all hail part time courses)
280hz 1440p. "HDR" as always can be ignored.
Not the greatest contrast and some slight light bleed. The usual IPS glow.
Honestly at full price, £540, this would have been returned but for £320 and the fact I work from home and needed a monitor, I can put up with it.
Have a vg27aq and it’s still solid, may upgrade to oled eventually when there’s more competition and lower prices hopefully
Looks like I'll be picking it up since it's only $349 at B&H while the MSI is more expensive everywhere right now.
It's weird having Aussies making recommendations on monitors that are largely only available in the USA or Europe
I guess Tim answered the h2h vs the MSI G274QPX at 14:30, with this being the better option vs the MSI. Still wonder about it vs the Gigabyte...
I think the -B is for Best Buy exclusive?
can you do a review of the new revision of the m27qx? It's a different panel but they claim all specs are the same besides improved colour accuracy. I've heard the build quality might be lower though
Can you do review on BenQ Mobiuz EX270QM?
Would love to see such an in-depth review of some budget and mid-level monitors, both of VA, IPS and to be included curved screens. Just to get a clear understanding and in-depth insight in the performance of these screens with these budget levels in gaming primarily. Have the Philips Momentum 27M1C5500VL/00- monitor currently, a curved VA panel, so curious as to how it's performance relates to E.g. screens shown here. Anyone, any idea?
I’m hesitating between the 27GR93U and the 27GR83Q and the gigabyte m27U for console games (x|x),especially fast fps games like cod so what do u think should I chose between these three?
Why the fuck would you buy a 240hz monitor that’s $500 for console gaming brother
Thanks for the indepth review. Personally, the poor HDR support is a deal breaker, though I do realize this product targets a different audience.
Hi Tim (and a possible Steve), is there maybe a particular reason iiyama monitors are never reviewed?
It costs 499 now.. Not sure why the price went up. Definitely not buying it for this, the msi is on a sale price right now for 319 on amazon USA. The Gigabyte is at 409 as well
LG 27GR83Q-B or LG 27GP850-B ??
My LG 34"UW 144hz bought in 2019 for almost $900 started going out today. Horizontal lines across the screen is evidently a common issue with them (bad or melted cable inside). Makes it hard to recommend them when they go bad this fast.
Haha i feel ya. My LG 34" UW 144hz bought back in 2018 broke with horizontal lines a month ago. But this LG 27GR83Q has panel from BOE company which is even worse lol. Msi,asus, gigabyte 1440p 240hz share the same BOE panel. I think i will just go for 165hz nano ips panel by LG instead.

@Monitors Unboxed Could you make a review of AOC Q27G3XMN. Specs looks insane, especially for the price.
Only issue is some minor backlight bleed but it's not noticeable in most use.
did you test M27P20P or KTC M27T20?
Hey i bought this monitor do u have any recommended setting on the monitor itself ? I use it on ps5 mostly for warzone on 120hz
Would the recommendation be to just leave HDR off?
Wow this thing is on sale for $349 at B&H.. I almost bought the MSI for the same price.
