- In this video we go over a 3uz KUN26 2007 hilux which has has the Toyota 1kd-ftv removed and a Lexus V8 3uz 4.3 litre engine fitted.

The Cartune Company (2003) Ltd in New Zealand does 1uz and 3uz conversions / parts and wiring. We have been working on UZ Toyota V8 engines since 2004 when we did our own Hiace van to transport dirtbikes around NZ. Since then we have swapped to doing mainly just Lexus V8 work from a family owned farm hidden away in our paradise , surrounded by the NZ native bush. Excellent work, real driver enthusiast build, made to driven. Love it! I'm in Flagstaff, Arizona and recently my beloved 1996 TRD Superchared Toyota T100 SR5 4X4 gave up the ghost at about 250k mi. head gasket failure, hydro'ed and threw a rod out the side of the block. So been seriously considering this 3uz swap myself. I'll definitely be contacting CartuneNZ as I gear up for the build. Huge Respect to you Gentleman and Gooday!

Pretty much the same job on the N80. Few more electronics to sort on the newer model but lovely truck to convert. Cheers

im in South africa my 2007model 3.0d4d has 589600km on the clock never had a problem with engine,gearbox&diff its still going strong that is the strongest engine on land.
You must have serviced it well. There are a few like that here in nz too, but also plenty of blown ones

I have seen some of these cars well pasted 500k with the 3L
we get the 2kd in latin america and i know of alot from the beginning of this model year now running 500k km plus. ive got a 2kd ive been thinking of doing the 5.7 v8 swap on

That’s great will you fix a complete set up with engine mounts and transmission mount ECU for a conversion to put in to an FJ cruiser stick shift and how much it will be
no plans on doing a kit for the FJ cruiser at this point as not common in NZ. My universal mount kitset is likely going to work well for engine mounts though. Cheers Kelvin

I have a 97 sc400 and was wondering what do you recommend doing to it engine size to get good power while still being reliable im relatively new with modifying cars and would love advice. Also curious what parts I’d need to do a 3uzfe swap into my sc400 any help would be very appreciated thank you
Fuel definitely rail and pump, air intake, chip and tune if it’s in your budget

3uz is a minimum for a 6 series. I prefer a 2uz or a LS series engine. Cheers Kelvin

The 3L d4d motor is one of the best and most reliable toyota motors ever built.service her every 10 000km and she will give you 500-700 000km with ease.
Many that we see haven't been serviced correctly and often the have had silly power adding boxes fitted which kills kd engines really fast.
Great job. That said, I'd really appreciate a rough idea of cost excluding motor.

This complete job, including engine, body lift, and repairs required for wof and cert was around $32k nzd. Engine was about $3k of that before it was prepared.

My 150 prado 1kd auto just cracked its piston, $12k later I’ve got A new 1kd but still have dramas with the EGR, should have done a 3UZ

In NZ I know emission laws are much different down there, but is there any laws or guidelines you have to follow for it to be street legal? In the US putting a car engine into a truck is a huge red flag and would not be street legal in many of the States and cities. Very clean swap BTW looks very factory fantastic job .
Yes , Any modified vehicle requires an additional check but a suitably qualified person to confirm the mods are safe. We call this a Low volume Certification (LVV). This then gives the vehicle a special plate which at the yearly or half yearly Warrant of fitness checks its confirmed the vehicle has an LVV.

This job was around the $30k nzd mark, drive in (well it came on a trailer) and drive out.
How does the manual transmission work on the new engine?
Or is it swapped with an auto?
We used the R151f from this hilux, works great.

Im going to be going my own , in auto with a 4L60 transmission. If using the UZ we are sorting adaptors to the 5 speed VVti auto trans. Cheers Kelvin

I have a Lexus gs300 2007 with a blow engine I just found and buy a 3uz because the price for 3gr fse is much higher for the 3uz price, I will try to make the swap but the 3uz was without gearbox because is broke, the ls430 3uz have a761e and my gs300 have a960e, for what I see is almost the same housing gearbox, and I can buy from the junkyard the ls430 bell housing you have some info if I can make it work tnx 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻hope you understand my English 🤦🏻♂️😂😂
I understand fine. This is an advanced job and personally I'd be fitting complete LS430 transmission to simplify the wiring and making ecu more compatible

Pro tip-never step on it up a hill on its last gear the torque will strip the gewr even faster with towing
The owner of this ute has abused it beyond most normal drivers and so far his gearbox has survived, including many hard accelerations from low speed up big hills.
How does it go with the V8, the 0-100?
didnt do 0-100 but its much faster than with the old diesel

hi Mate, im looking at doing a ls swap in to my 1kd hilux just wanted to ask being a diesel tank how were able to keep the same standard tank with a petrol engine obviously, and what was involved in doing so cheers
The diesel fuel tank and the petrol fuel tank are the same. Just the sender unit is different , and I'm pretty sure we covered the swap from petrol to diesel is covered in the series , and I'm pretty sure its covered again with the LS2 swap into the 2014 hilux videos which are about to come out. Hi .lovely work with the conversion..I have a hilux 2.7 vvti with a similar set up..my radiator fan is too small..what's the best fan I can use ..also is it normal for the engine to cut power on hard acceleration
Does it get hot with normal driving when the fan shouldnt be working? Best fans are Spal or Derale dual speed. The engine should never cut power on hard acceleration. Cheers Kelvin

Just wondering, I have a2003 Hilux 4x4 3.4 . As is can't fault, but I want a v8 in it. Heard some horror stories. Was thinking 1uz overhauled to new ish . Or 2uz or 3uz if compatible. Waning it to be the same as is now, with of course, new diff etc and all else working perfectly like it is now, no problems at all. I know this sounds somewhat rhetorical. Just wanted you opinion ? I really don't want to spend 120,000 to bring a 76 to the way I want it.
I have examples of 2003 with 3uz. Done correctly they are much nicer than the 3.4 v6. Some principles apply as in this video too. Cheers

It is possible to swap provided everything is sorted correctly. Its more an engine conversion with wiring changes etc required with a lot of work

Gas milage is dependant on the drivers right foot. Cruising its pretty good

Have you put a V8 diesel in a 120 Prado?
I made a decision years ago to avoid diesels where possible. If you want to try into a prado I recommend getting your tape measure out.

This was around $30k all sorted with brakes and a few vehicle related repairs for cert.
@@CartuneNZ Thank you, much appreciated. It is something to highly consider if/when the dreaded piston cracking happens. I’ve no doubt this conversion would drastically change the ute into something where it “should” have been an option from the factory.
