I guess the score counter was just an afterthought in this game-it’s only shown when you’ve completed the game, or get a “game over” with no continues left. (The pause menu doesn’t even show it, either-just the money you have accumulated.) Weird...
God the issues I had with that plant boss lol I never realised I was hurting the damn thing until it changed colour, then joy oh joy you fight IT along with all the other bosses AGAIN in the pit lol

Boss 3, Evil Wraith totally reminds me of the female ghost in the first movie's montage sequence. We think she's the ghost who took Ray's virginity! Now he's busting her? One hell of a way to show his gratitude.
so the bosses are: gentleman with no body, i donno, Some Weird Banshee type ghost, diamond creature, Creepy frosty the snowman, the human torch's evil brother, red dragon, Satan's face (i gess?), centipede with lots of eyes, Ball in a cage, Demon that looks like the fluffyest thing ever, evil ghostbuster, skeleton with a robe and sythe, another evil ghostbuster, green harry worm, frog/plant hybrid, and... umm
Wow! I always passed that game up as a kid because I figured it was just like the NES version. That game has amazing graphics for the time frame! Was that a huge cartridge?
It's a normal 16 bit kind actually. I regret selling it when I was younger because I freaked out badly, and I was only able to get to the final boss but on the part where she detaches from the mound, that was it, I couldn't win... x_x'
The graphics remind me of what the Commodore Amiga 1000 was capable of, really wish this game was on the Amiga back in the day. I would have never stopped playing it!
I was 11 years old when this came out in 1990. When my mom bought this for me and my brother it was $64. I remember her saying you better play this game to the very end and beat it a dozen times for that price lol. When I was younger she bought Karnov for the NES that game was the absolutely the worst game. That game was $45 and I played it for like 30 minutes and I was highly pissed. We didn't have UA-cam in those days to preview game you either bought it or walked away. It was a shitty game. Ghostbusters for the Genesis was well worth the money! 10 out of 10
The bosses in this game are so tenacious and their movements are pretty much unpredictable. Beat this game as a kid and again 30 years later, but only once each time. It's hard work. Centipede and Slime Worm were the worst for me. And the Marshmallow Man - so tough! And of course Jenna. Oof.

Who's Jenna? Was she from the cartoon series? I know she wasn't from the original movies. I don't know when this game was made, but if Ghostbusters 2 was out at the same time, they should have considered Viggo as a boss villain.
Ah yes who can forget the scene where Dr Venkman battled the headless magician, leapt over his legs, crawled under his floating torso - and blasted the rat weilding utencils?
Haha, I remember thinking for the longest time as a kid that boss 08 flameface was two faces, one female and one male with a really big chin and very small forehead. and the second I saw it now I thought so as well, until I remembered.
Boy, I remember all this... "Audrey" is where I got stuck. And the system broke down before I could get any further. I always wanted to take this--all the way to the head. All the way through...
Pause at 12:15 I just noticed that Stay Puft Is A Floating Head XD My theory is that the game was to lazy to add in staypuft's body texture when fighting him.
Is not a problem of laziness but power and memory limitations. Back then there were no "textures", it was drawn using tiles, small squares of 8x8 pixels. Those where usually grouped in 16x16 pixels groups, 32x32, up to 256x256. The 68000 processor in the genesis could move a limited amount of those tiles dedicated to sprites (background tiles were a different story) and the more different tiles (IE: Tiles for the body) the more memory required to be stored in the cartdrige. And more memory in the cartdrige meant more cost for each cartdrige. So many games used tricks to reduce the amount of stuff to be drawn/stored. For example in Mario Bros, the bushes are just the clouds but colored green instead of white. Also the blocks in mario are 16x16 pixels and they break in 4 4x4 pixel pieces. Many times, even today, there are sacrifices made by the developer so the game could be made. But there's laziness in some cases too. But back in the 16 bit era there are many smart tricks in order to push the hardware if you look into it. FUN FACT: Even though the SNES is seen as superior to the Genesis/MegaDrive, the 68000 cpu of the genesis was actually more capable than SNES's processor, allowing for many neat effects that couldn't be done on SNES without external chips added to the cartdrige (such as SuperFX). Check some games from Treasure like Gunstar Heroes or Alien Soldier or check this video of the Bosses of Batman & Robin for the Genesis, with som truly impressive effects for the system like lighting, sprite deformation, 3D effects, rotation, parallax scrolling... ua-cam.com/video/VpmTTTohgRc/v-deo.html

These are really well designed bosses. Not only are they mechanically interesting but they all feel right at home in this universe!
Some of the designs are a bit hokey though, like the first sub-boss.
This was a good Sega Genesis game. It was a good Ghostbusters game.
I thought the only older Ghostbusters game was the crappy NES game. That's the only one I saw as a kid in the 80's and 90's.

I can't believe you made that fire dragon look like a piece of cake. He used to kick my butt so much!
His fire breath is easy to avoid.
Bubbles are one of the useful weapons as it takes away blue fire and beat bosses easily sadly it's underrated
You just quoted Peter Venkman's catchphrase there. If you've watched the 80's Real Ghostbusters cartoon, you'll know it.
Oh please, that boss was EASY.
I never knew you could stand UNDER its fire breath 😯 but if it comes lower you have to be quick.

Wow for such a Standard Ghostbusters game it has a Cool boss soundtrack!
That is because the is the only GOOD Ghostbusters game ever made, on account that the Japanese developed and developed this one.
