This new Contra game combines elements from Contra 1, Contra 2 (Super C), and Contra 3 (Alien Wars), and I absolutely adore it. In the past, I found the Stage 1 Boss in Contra 1 to be too simple, but now they've crafted a fusion of the two mini-fortresses from Contra 1 and the third boss's mini-fortress from Contra 2. Now it looks more like a boss.
It's already out and the game is great. Unfortunately only 8 stages, like most of the Contra games. But there plenty of option to play with (perks, few difficulties, local co-op up to 4 players but without online multiplayer). Maybe you want to wait for sale, but definetely worth playing.
Hello game designers for Contra Operation Galuga, I think you did a great job at recreating the essence of the original game, which is something that is not easy to do with most remakes, because a lot of the times, developers make too many changes that make the game feel different. Then, there are times when developers need to add new ideas, but the ideas need to look and sound as if they are extensions of the originals. This isn't an easy task, but I think you did well here. One thing I noticed at around 9:09 of this video clip, the cave level - the tunnel looks like it could be further developed to be a part of an entire level and still look and feel as part of the original.
@@dvdbox360I don't know the game developers' UA-cam channel, but I'm sure they frequent many of the fans channel and read comments, like these here :).

I grew up as a child with Contra, and it was important to me to try to recreate the feeling that the game gave to me when I was a kid and since. But believe me, it is VERY hard to do that, and I didn't always succeed. But, I can tell you, I sincerely cared to try to bring Contra's feel and spirit and design back. for me nothing will beat the originals. Good try on the new contra but it still does not come close to the level of excitement this game brought back in the early 90's
I was looking for this comment and didn't have to look far. The SNES Contra has one of my favourite soundtracks ever. It's also my favourite Contra, though of course I recognise the merits in the other classics.
The first boss in Operation Galuga is a fusion of the original Contra mini-fortress and the third boss mini-fortress from Super C. Overall, Operation Galuga takes elements from Contra, Super C, The Alien Wars, and Contra Rebirth.

@arachosia I think this version was meant more as a remake of some of that original stuff. It should've been marketed like that, and with a lower price point. Personally I really like it, especially the newer spin on some of the bosses (e.g. Gordea at 4:25 onwards). Will be replaying it once in a while..
Love how they leaned into the Aliens references in Contra. Character names Lance Bean (Lance Henriksen x Michael Biehn) and Bill Rizer (Bill Paxton x Paul Reiser)
It was meant to be an Alien game from the start. But the 20th Century Fox wouldn't strike a reasonable deal, so Konami rebranded it a little and made their own franchise. The same way as StarCraft was meant to be a Warhammer 40.000 game.
The last boss is actually inaccurate. Contra Galugas last boss, when its attacking the ship you see it from its profile. He looks exactly like “ Java “ from the first NES game. This is Red Falcon. The “ mother alien “ as you know is called “ Gava “. She didnt appear untill the second coming. Super C. Her lineage is Black Viper. Contra Wars was both lineages attacking Earth in a united front. Both Gava & Java are equals to their own Kindred. They are two entirely different beings / DNA strands, but of the same world and cause. It is implied Both Red Falcon & Black Viper are bio weapons of the actual aliens attacking us as reviled in shattered soldier. I understand that this is a reboot, but it does take reference directly from the old games. I wouldn’t be surprised if you see the actual mother alien Gava in the next game.
in classic contra, you have to destroy both hands of Gromaides to make the fight easier. But in Operation Galuga, destroying Gromaides' hands made the fight even more difficult.

As much as I like Contra 1, Super C, Contra 3, 4, Rebirth and Operation Galuga as much I don't like Contra: Hard Corps. It's too fast, too chaotic and it's soundtrack is some kind of "cat's music" based on "meow meow" sounds :D (melodies are fine, but sounds aren't...). But true, Operation Galuga has some references to Contra: Hard Corps, for example Fang is in the game.
Played this on the SNES but mine was Super Probotector - Alien Rebels. It was so badass back then. Members come over to my house and we play in turns from morning to noon in the weekends. It was wicked.
Nice and ok as this was a reboot. I just hope the next Contra game will have more original stuff. It’s ok to mix in some more from contra 3/4/ Hard corps. But I want to be surprised and getting “wow” again. And only new things really do that to me

I personally enjoyed those surely unlicensed references to Aliens and The Terminator in the original game. The new game also feels decent, but it's a different game now.
Emperor Demon Gava here feels more like Black Viper, like going through his body to get to the head/brain. The spiked car boss in stage 2 is probably based on the similar-looking enemy/mid-boss from Contra 1's snow field stage. Crustacean Crawler coming out of the train reminds me of the train boss from Rogue Corp.

When I first saw this game, I wasn't sold on the presentation. Hell, I'm still not. However, it's very clear that the devs care deeply about the franchise and want to do it justice, which I can wholly appreciate. I'm going to wait for a sale then get involved. It's a similar situation to Metroid - we don't _need_ series definiting masterpieces for either franchise (though that would obviously be amazing), just modern titles that are damn _good enough_ and don't stray so far from their roots. At least that's how I see it in these two cases.
Oddly enough the vicious slave hawk was in super contra... arcade version lvl 4....had the long tongue, swoop attack....but I think alien wars wanted to use this guy...with additional teleportation

Sí, pero la versión de NES, al menos la que tengo, no tiene la segunda forma del jefe en la etapa 1, y la versión arcade en los EE. UU., al menos, se ve completamente diferente en comparación con la NES.
5:10 Boss in Operation Galuga has named as Devil Worm.
