I just wanted to say a few things that may be of interest to your readers. I do my peas exactly like you are doing except I use a deep bottom tray instead of shallow. Come time to bottom water, I put in 4 cups of nutrient water and continue to refresh twice a day. The peas love it and fill that deep bottom tray with roots! After I cut once, I just continue with them under the lights and they grow back again from the same seeds, no need to re-germinate. They will even do it a third time but they are not as crunchy so I only use the first 2 harvests. And thanks for your great videos.
@@longshottv1113 Since the root base is firmly established, the re-growth seems to be about 3 days shorter than the first time around and the yield is just as good. Speckled peas put out a massive root base and will really soak up the water. The biggest problem you will have at this point is mold. Since some of the original seeds didn’t germinate they will be dying off and mold will want to grow. Use your fungicidal solution of choice and spray twice a day for a couple of days and do not try to top water after you start bottom watering. If you have good circulation, right temperature and acceptable humidity, the re-growth will go well. You can re-grow quite a few times, but the third cutting is not as crisp so I don’t try to sell them and I usually stop after the second cutting.
@Derek Bartlett I use Fox Farms hydroponic liquid nutrients 3-2-6. Not necessary for the first cutting since the seeds provide the nutrients, but I always use nutrient solution after that.
@@abecarloto1185 Not at all. I just refresh the water so there is always about 4 cups of water there. That way you are actually growing with the Kratky method. Once they have established a root base they drink a lot of nutrient water.

Great video Mandy and CJ. I love the way you guys grow pea microgreens 😍 IWe usually crop our microgreens a little shorter than yours because we mix it in our micro-rainbow mix for our customers. Hi! Thanks a lot from europe for all the information you give! What I wonder is, how long after the last watering would be best for harvest, concerning shelf live and crunchyness?
hi, I just noticed that you didn't spray the 3% hydrogen peroxide solution on peas whereas in sunflower seeds you often do it. Is it ok to spray that also here? ty!
Great video. Do you OS solution only once or is that part of daily watering? What is your dilution ratio you use for OS? Do you use OS in all your grows?
We use it for everything, dilution ratio is 0.5oz OS per gallon of water, we daily water with it once the plants are in the light and starting their growth.
Nice video! Learnt a lot from you. I did try to grow some peas in a mesh tray. However, some of the peas rot after germination and they seemed to affect the peas nearby. Did you experience similar issues and do you check everyday and remove those are rotten?
Hi there! Thank you for making such detailed videos! I absolutely love them. Can you please tell me what other microgreens can be grown in the mesh bottom trays? And what sort of extra care would they need? I would love to experiment with growing on mesh bottom trays but I haven't really been able to find a lot of information with this method. I am on day 9 of my first tray of speckled peas. No medium. I did put weight on them for 3 days, and put a blackout dome on for 2 days to try to get them to stretch. They have been under the fancy full spectrum 300 w folding light ever since, watering twice per day with nutrients. They look beautiful and green, they smell lovely, and the roots are gorgeous, but the stems seem to be shorter than they should be and I don't have any tendrils on top. Do you think I just need to wait a few more days? Yours are definitely doing better than mine.
Yes I would weight a few more days! Peas tend to be very short for the first few days, then they randomly decide to get taller and start putting out tendrils! Just be sure to taste test them to make sure they aren't getting to woody or bitter and you should be fine 🥳
Hi there! Question for ya - Is there a reason why you use the mesh tray instead of the tray with holes that I have seen you use before? I'm curious if the peas will root okay with out that exact type of mesh tray you're using in the video. Appreciate you guys so much! Thanks again.
Hi guys! Thank you so much for this video, very helpful. I have one question, when you count the days when do you start day 1? Day after sowing or day of sowing?
Thank you for the support!! We refer to the day that we sow the seeds as “Day 0”. The following day will be Day 1 and so on... we use the days as time that has passed since sowing. Hope that makes sense! 🤗🌱🌱
A question for you. When I spray the pea seeds by the second day I have water accumulating in the bottom tray. I noticed in your pea video you have no water in your tray on the fourth day. Do you dump the water out or am I over watering? I am trying to mimic the amount of water you two spray on your seeds the first 3 days. Also on the fourth day your peas are ready for light my peas don't look like that till day 6 . What am I doing wrong ? Third time in two months at growing pea micro greens and not getting your results but there are results. Thank you keep shooting up :)
It sounds like you could be slightly over-watering, which is no problem at all! Just make sure you pour any excess water out every day during the spray germination phase. Once you move into bottom watering, a little extra water shouldn’t be a problem! Just make sure they are drinking up 95% of the water before adding more! As for the different growth, it really varies for reasoning... sometimes different seed batches grow very differently. It could be the temperature of the room, airflow, or even water source. Adding weight to trap humidity helps also! And in fact, sometimes over-watering can slow down germination! So, it could be one of many things and as you grow more, you’ll start to get the hang of it! You can also send us pictures and describe your full grow process and we can do our best to help you out!
"I can smell the nice pea smell too". Man ive been feeling pretty down with my financial situation. I thought of growing some of these. I hope the puns I can use with "pea" can make things a little better
You got this! We know of so many people who have been able to launch successfully businesses growing and selling microgreens or being involved in the process somehow. Create a goal and work towards it! All our videos are free and if you're savvy you can get started for very little money. Happy growing and keep up the Puns :) -CJ
since the roots get so strong it might be better to not use the standard bottom watering technique (by having holes in the middle tray) and instead use the conventional way of growing plants (just some soil) that u can easily discard once its finished growing ive also found that plants that do have such a heavy root structure (like for example wheatgrass that ive done) do have the oddity to them that u can "grab them by the hair" (of sorts xD) and lift them up WITH the soil "exactly" the day ud want to bottom water them (of course without ripping them out of the ground!) - and then simply "bottom water them" by filling THAT tray with water (instead of the usual one below) - since this even works with 2 inches thicc soil it prolly will work even better with ur 0.5-1 inch soil
Great video, lovely harvest, you mentioned fertilizing with your Ocean Solution, is it a diy mix or a brand fertilizer? wwould like to know what is best to use, that's more organic, Thanks😊
We’ve never noticed it hurting them and we’ve been doing it for a year now! As long as you don’t throw it on them... use something care when placing it, but they are really resilient plants! They are very strong as a group :) 🤗🌱🌱
Hey guys! What an awesome video. Thank you so much for being so thorough! I'm following your instructions to the T but on day 4, when I take the peas out of and I bottom-feed them water/kelp solution ailyl, the roots that are still visible on the top of the tray start to dry out. Some roots seem to thin out, turn brown and then thicken again when they go under the mesh tray. I'm worried this will kill the affected peas. Any advice would be much appreciated!!!!! =)
Thank you so much for the support! You can try misting the roots on the surface till they full make it down to the bottom-watering area... Try continuing to mist until 95% of the roots are getting to the water source. Hope that helps! You're also welcome to send us pictures through our instagram or facebook so we can better see what you're talking about!
Thank you! I'm just wondering, are the seeds meant to be essentially compressed by the tray on top as they germinate? Why is that done? Wouldn't that hurt them or keep them from growing? Or is it not meant to touch the actual seed/plant?
Hello Jeff!! We have a big bag of fava bean but still haven't found the best way to grow it. Tends to mold very easily haha so it's been a trouble crop for us. Hopefully soon will get it down so we can do a video on it!
Yes it will, especially with some of the more vigorously rooted varieties! They will find a way to the water...one of nature's little miracles! bri Have you signed up for our Master Class yet? Please get ready to take advantage of all the information we've assembled for you!!!
Currently I use 10x10 growing trays as I live in an apartment. I’ve been searching for a mesh tray in that size however I haven’t been able to. Is there something else that may work instead for the speckled peas?
hi, check bootstrap farmer website they might have some 10x10 mesh trays. but i think the normal trays with the slits in them will work fine, or if you have 2 in deep trays that will work too as long as you fill it with media
If you want something bombproof that will last forever, check these trays out: paperpot.co/product-category/nursery-flat/ I purchased them three years ago and found that these are truly some of the best trays out there, and are used by many commercial growers for microgreens. Good luck!

Great video. Just subbed.
Great leadership as always. I'll check your site for trays i can buy in europe. Thanks, stay safe
Thank you so much for the support David Decker!! We are going to be making new content soon! 😄 We also hope to have our own trays available soon!
Thank you guys for your videos! When you start bottom watering 2x a day- both times is it with the ocean solution? Thank you so much :)
Love your videos guys! Can you grow all pea varieties without a growing medium?
Yes you can! They are so easy to grow!!
Thank you so much for great video...you are very sweet🌷🌷🌷
since the roots get so strong it might be better to not use the standard bottom watering technique (by having holes in the middle tray) and instead use the conventional way of growing plants (just some soil) that u can easily discard once its finished growing
ive also found that plants that do have such a heavy root structure (like for example wheatgrass that ive done) do have the oddity to them that u can "grab them by the hair" (of sorts xD) and lift them up WITH the soil "exactly" the day ud want to bottom water them (of course without ripping them out of the ground!) - and then simply "bottom water them" by filling THAT tray with water (instead of the usual one below) - since this even works with 2 inches thicc soil it prolly will work even better with ur 0.5-1 inch soil
Hi do you have video on how to grow buckwheat and sunflower without medium?
Great video, lovely harvest, you mentioned fertilizing with your Ocean Solution, is it a diy mix or a brand fertilizer? wwould like to know what is best to use, that's more organic, Thanks😊
They look great! Can green peas seeds also be eaten with the shoots, i.e. harvested with the roots?
Great Video ! Question: putting the heavy weight on & off twice a day during the germination wouldn't hurt the sprouting seeds?
You're also welcome to send us pictures through our instagram or facebook so we can better see what you're talking about!
do you use the same fertilizers for all microgreens?
Would it be possible to start adding seed measurements in cups etc...? For those just getting into it and that don't have a scale
I don't understand how you do bottom watering and misting. Is there and instruction video for that?
Great video, thanks! I don't have ocean solution and I'm on day 4. Will it work ok with just water?
How do it do?
Did u spray the bottom tray at all during the first 4 days? Mine has roots coming through bottom but isnt quite ready to uncover.
Do you use mesh trays vs holed trays for all microgreens grown in coir mix medium?
Great video. I’m nee to micro greens.
About the light: if using Grow light, how many hours a day under the light? Thanks
Thank you! I'm just wondering, are the seeds meant to be essentially compressed by the tray on top as they germinate? Why is that done? Wouldn't that hurt them or keep them from growing? Or is it not meant to touch the actual seed/plant?
Have you all tested Fava bean? Couldnt find any videos on it from you two. I am trying peas and fava bean currently.
Hello Jeff!! We have a big bag of fava bean but still haven't found the best way to grow it. Tends to mold very easily haha so it's been a trouble crop for us. Hopefully soon will get it down so we can do a video on it!
@@OnTheGrow I have had similar experience. I am in a drier climate than you and they are drying out very easily
Will using trays with drainage holes work instead of the mesh tray?
Yes it will, especially with some of the more vigorously rooted varieties! They will find a way to the water...one of nature's little miracles! bri Have you signed up for our Master Class yet? Please get ready to take advantage of all the information we've assembled for you!!!
@@OnTheGrow Yay, this was my question as well. You're so darned helpful. Thank you so much.
On day 4, only 1/3 of them sprouted. Not very many roots coming through,. Should I wait one more dat
If you want something bombproof that will last forever, check these trays out:
paperpot.co/product-category/nursery-flat/
I purchased them three years ago and found that these are truly some of the best trays out there, and are used by many commercial growers for microgreens. Good luck!
