I have watched many hiking videos, but I can't get through 99% of them. Self-centered shots of the hosts stuffing their faces, posing near historic sites with cheesy tourist setup shots, and endless gabbing all about themselves, while they completely miss the beauty of their surroundings. Some of these videos blow by some of the most gorgeous landscapes in the world at break-neck speed, as if to check boxes to show they were there. Some of those shots are so busy, that it makes me dizzy. Sadly, they miss the whole point of actually BEING there at that wonderful moment in time. Your productions are a beautiful cup of Zen. You use shots of yourselves sparingly--perhaps to remind the viewer you're still hiking--while taking a back seat to the real headliners: the landscape and wildlife. No obnoxious blabbering on and on about where they came from and who they are. I love the tasteful, organic music, and cinematic pans that linger and massage the viewer's eyes as the wild breeze ruffles the fir branches, meadow grass, and heather. The bottom line here is that while most of these other folks are only looking for more subscribers while shooting their "Hey, look at us" videos, you two are clearly fascinated by the beauty of the landscape and the wildlife around you. Your skills as a videographer, editor, and music producer--and in full transparency, I am in the business--are the best I've seen. I love how you tell a simple story, with no chit-chat. I would never go back and review most of the hiking videos I've seen, much less bookmark them or even FINISH them. But your productions, well, I've watched them several times. Sometimes while I'm working in my office on my laptop, I'll run one of your hiking videos on my big screen monitor just to hear--and occasionally--imagine that lovely breeze blowing through the heather in my mind. Cheers, and great job!
Wow... The best comment ever! ❤️ You *get it*. This is exactly what I aim to do with these videos. For me nature is the headliner like you said, I'm just there to capture some tiny bits of it. It makes me so happy to know that there are people who prefer this kind of approach! I'm actually writing this on a bus somewhere in Glencoe (we've recently moved to Scotland) and tomorrow I am starting the Great Glen Way, which I'll of course aim to document in the same way. Your comment really made my day and makes me even more excited to get on the trail again! Thank you so much 🙏🏻
@@ElielHerleviPhotography Well, I am happy my post "made your day," because you've made my day many times over with your brilliant work. Good luck in your new digs, I love Glenco. Good luck on the trail--be safe. I love your music choices. It reminds me of Brian Eno and Phillip Glass. We live on a farm secluded in the Oregon Coast Range. My labrador boys and I have just about worn out almost every trail around these beautiful bits, so I'll be heading to Ireland to walk some of the Wicklow Way next fall--minus my boys. After giving a loving hand to aid my father's passing in the most comforting way possible last year--I am the last remaining member of my immediate family--I'll be taking some small samples of all their ashes back to our deep roots in Wicklow and Donegal where our family bloodline originated. I'll watch with a sad beauty as the ashes blow from the palms of my hands, waft away on the Irish breeze and into the sea. I'm sure you two are well aware of the Wicklow Way on the southeastern Irish coast. My wife and I rode horseback through the Rockies two years ago in Banff Nat'l Park in Alberta Canada. Amazing beauty and awesome wildlife! Last week we hiked the shoreline, colorful tidepools, and craggy hills of NW Vancouver Island. Alcoves of surly seascapes with crashing tides, puffs of morning mist, and a sweet glow of happiness that sits well in your belly all day long. If we could gather up all the miserable people who make war, and bring them about to hike the great land of this earth, my hope is many of them would finally "get it." Perhaps even embrace happiness, and lay down arms. Yeah? There's a little town called Tofino, on Vancouver Island. Very nice town, with lovely folks. The Canadians are well aware of their surroundings and have become such good stewards. It can be overwhelmed with tourists in the summer months, but you two are hearty and smart enough to hike the shoulder seasons. I look forward to your next video mate. Be well and stay safe on the trail.
What a lovely thought to return the ashes to where your family roots are. We did the Wicklow Way last year and they don't call the area the Garden of Ireland for nothing. Can't think of a more beautiful place to send them on their final journey. I've heard Vancouver Island is beautiful (in fact I met two Canadian ladies from Kelowna on the trail just this week in Fort Augustus / Loch Ness who said the same thing!) and while I'm yet to see it myself I agree with what you said 100%. I had a few of those moments of just being in awe of the land and the scenery of the Great Glen in the last few days. Plenty of footage to edit in the coming weeks!
I was already looking forward to walking this trail next April/May, but after watching this video, I'm even more excited! Love the idea of taking a drone, as you captured some absolutely beautiful footage! Think I'll have to do the same 😊
Stunning video, bravo. Captures the landscape & mood extremely well. Love the sounds of rain, wind, footsteps & well-chosen music. Brings back memories of doing the WHW in 1991 & the Rannoch Moor section in 2023. Favourite shot 16:16.
Thank you so much 🙏 Glad you enjoyed it and it makes me happy that you noticed some of those details! Rannoch Moor is probably my favourite section, just the vastness of the moors...
@@ElielHerleviPhotography If it's not midges then it's freezing rain/snow, but if it was easy, it would be crowded. As kids we would camp and have a fire every night, after two weeks, the smell of the woodsmoke on our clothes would keep midges away, and people too.
Wat a great video, really nice. I'm walking the way this year end of April. I'm struggeling a bit with the place to camp the second night,. I was looking into Sallochi Campsite of get a permit for Lochan Maol Dhuinne, Loch Lomond. Where did you guys sleep the second night? Thx :)
Great question - this is something every WHW walker needs to figure out (unless hiking in the winter months). What we did is we decided to walk about 33km on the 2nd day so that we could wildcamp at the shores of Loch Lomond. See the spot at 4:02, which was maybe half a mile after the no camping zone ended and very close to the trail. The other option is as you said to use the camping site halfway through the no camping zone, or to get a permit for that one spot a bit further north, if wildcamping is your thing. If you can, I would get the permit as that's what we did in 2018, you just have to book that well in advance as those are very limited. I'd book that now if I were you, it'll save you from a gruelling 33km day 😄 Thanks for watching and I hope the trail treats you well in April!
Hi, thx for your detailed answer :) ill try and get the permit then :) the booking opens 4 weeks in advance so Ill put it in my agenda. Otherwise I will go the extra mile :) thx again and keep making great films :)
Thank you! Not quite, in the southern half of Loch Lomond wild camping is not allowed during high season. But there is a campsite and a handful of permits for another spot. But everywhere else it is as long as you follow the usual Outdoors Code. Thanks for the sub!
Hieno video jälleen kerran! Miten on mielestäsi paras tapa toteuttaa meno-paluu Suomesta?

Thank you for sahring your WHW Experience. Very atmosphereic pictures. Great job!

Excellent video. Not too long; great scenery; and no talking(!)
Thank you! Glad to hear you like the "no commentary" approach! There's not much my commentary could add to the scenery of the WHW 😄

Great video!

Awesome, hope the trail is good for you in May! Thank you for watching 🙏🏻
